Grid Lens Adds A Bit Of Fun To iPhone Grid Photography [Review]

There are many grid cameras in the App Store, but Grid Lens by Bucket Labs caught my eye because it adds a little bit of fun, something you don’t see often in camera apps.

You can choose from a variety of grids to surround your photos with, or edit your own. Next to the shutter control, another button toggles between single lens or multi lens modes.

Single mode means you’re taking a single shot, which is divided up by the borders and frames of your grid. Multi lens mode turns each element of the grid into a separate photo. In each case, you can choose to take photos manually (tap inside each frame) or automatically.

Dive into your gallery of saved images and you’ll find a small selection of built-in color filters.

What makes Grid Lens stand out is its built-in sense of humor. The interface animations are cute without being overdone. A little monster appears in the bottom-left corner, chomping on your image as it gets processed. On the options screen, the colors in the color selector look like they’re dripping down towards your fingers.

Small things, but each one helps to give the app a bit of character that you don’t find elsewhere. When you’re selling in a market surrounded by a hundred or more direct competitors, having character is a good thing.

And if you’re wondering whether there’s a Flickr group, the answer is of course yes.

Right now Grid Lens is priced at one dollar, and you can get it from the App Store here.
