How To Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 On Your iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or iPod Touch [Jailbreak Superguide]

The Redsn0w software by DevTeam has always allowed you to jailbreak your iOS device, giving you complete control over your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch (see why you should jailbreak here). This morning, though, redsn0w version 0.9.1ob1 was released with iOS 5 support, meaning you can now jailbreak devices and run Cydia apps on devices with iOS 5 installed. Here’s how to jailbreak iOS 5!

Ingredients:

  • A compatible iOS device
  • That same device updated to firmware iOS 5.0.1
  • iTunes 10.5.2
  • redsn0w 0.9.10b1 for Mac.

Please backup all your information using iTunes before following this tutorial.

1. Download redsn0w and extract the ZIP. Double-click to open redsn0w application.

How about an article that tells us how to set up Spire?

  • Ronald Stepp

So once you have it jailbroken, can you then still get updates from apple?  Can you un-jailbreak it?  Is there a danger of bricking it if you try and go back?

  • iDaBoss

seems like the repos are still inaccessible =(

  • iDaBoss

you can update but it will unjailbreak your phone. you can unjailbreak by restoring or updating your phone. jailbreaking doesn’t affect your chances of errors during restoring/updating (i’ve crashed my unjailbroken phone updating it due to unstable internet connections)

  • DylanYounkin

Agreed.  With the jailbreak tools now, download and follow the wizard.  The Spire guide needs some clarification…

  • joewaylo

You have to wait until iPod2G or someone else does iOS 5.0.2 and iOS 5.1 before you can update your iDevices that are jailbroken. Otherwise it will restore the device to not-jailbroken status.

ibooks doesn’t work after JB, Other than that works great. They might bring an update to fix ibooks later

  • ipodballer

I fixed my iBooks app issue by downloading iBooksFix2 from the insanelyi repo.

  • David Clark

Not a “Superguide” unless the 4S is included. ;)

  • Scott Schneider

Repositories don’t work. Had I known this, I would have stuck with the tethered JB.

What are the issues i should expect to encounter with my Unlocked 3GS for tmobile? Any extra steps before I follow this great tut?

  • Laurie645

@readers:disqus my buddy’s step-sister makes $85 every hour on the internet. last month her pay was $7783 just working on the internet for a few hours.Follow the instructions at Online Income Solutions http://goo.gl/he7mr

  • iDaBoss

Some of it is starting to work again in the last few hours (at least for me). I managed to get SBSettings and Activator.

  • Danny Doublebanker

Need to use redsn0w 0.9.10b2 according to iPadJailbreak.com

  • Ben Ragunton

I’ve been looking for that repo… Doesn’t seem to come up!

  • sheilanp

I successfully jailbroke my 3gs, and installed ultrasn0w. I then replaced my sim card with the tmobile one, but it keeps saying searching for a long time, and then finally it says no service….. What am I doing wrong???

  • Jaime Cruz

    jailbreak  ? unlock

  • Ashley

I have an iPhone 4 running 5.0.1. I jailbroke it Tuesday and last night it crashed and was stuck on the Apple logo. I tried just running the redsn0w 0.9.10b3 over it and at one point it was stuck on the pineapple logo. I got tired and just left my phone stuck on the Apple logo and when I woke up my phone seemed to be working fine. I came to find, though, that my Mail app won’t work, Safari won’t open, and my jailbreak apps were visible but would not open. It’s like my phone is stuck between Apple and jailbreak purgatory because my Glasklart icons are active but I can’t customize anything.

Is my only option to restore and re-jailbreak? If so, that’s okay, but if there’s a quicker fix I would really love to hear it. Thank you to anyone with advice!

  • Ambuk Kera Kuyat

Is there anyway to jb or just enter dfu mode when my power button is busted?

  • l e ç e

For DFU mode, do we really need iTunes, or we just use iTunes for backup iPhone ?
Because i am not admin on computer that i used so i can not install iTunes, will it be a problem ?

  • Sudhir Kumar

does anyone seem to have a WiFi detection issue after JB-ing?

  • Marcell J. E.

I got the No identifying data fetched message

  • Marcell J. E.

I’ve now tried Just boot tethered, specifying my IPSW, trying jailbreaks both with iTunes active and closed, and nothing. Exploit failed, exploit failed, exploit failed.  Using an iPhone 3gs, 5.0.1, that’s a newer “fixed” model according to redsn0w

  • Erik N. Romero

does anyone know how long the process takes?? im Jailbraking my 3GS
     on Windows 7

  • keplenk

Hi, just a quick question …. the instructions says to download itunes, I’m just wondering when would it be used? It never mentioned itunes in the instructions.

    thanks

  • Joshua McCormack

ok so just one question can i jailbreak my iphone 4 with ios 5.0.1 if done completely by the manual with no issues and have no problems with it? or is it still too unstable?

  • Jake Butterworth

iTunes is there just to back up your device

  • Kcroft

I’ve got the iPhone 3GS updated with stock 5.0.1, BB of 05.16.05 that I’ve tried to jailbreak and unlock now, a number of times using Redsn0w – the program shuts itself down every time after DFU mode. Anyone know a fix for this? Do I need to use another program or upgrade to ipad BB 06.15.00 first?

  • Jairo Aleman
