Twitter Gets A Much-Improved New Interface on iPad

Twitter’s mobile site for the iPhone was overhauled to sport a fancy new interface earlier this year, but the larger mobile site for iPad users was left behind. This week, however, Twitter is rolling out the much-improved new look to the iPad site as well.

Some of you may already have the new site, which you can find by simply visiting www.twitter.com using mobile Safari — or another third-party iPad web browser. But if you don’t already see it, you should do by the end of the week.

Built using HTML5, the new design aims to work a great deal better with the iPad’s touchscreen, boasting bigger icons for easier navigation, and a look that resembles that of the native Twitter app for iPad. Carolyn Penner, a Twitter representative, says:

The HTML5 app provides a great option for people who prefer to use the browser over native apps. Its two-column view is consistent with the Twitter experience you’re used to (on Twitter.com), and it takes advantage of touch gestures and other device capabilities.

Once you’ve tried it, I think you’ll agree that its a huge improvement over the previous design, which resembled the old Twitter website and didn’t work all that well with touchscreen devices. Having said that, I still don’t understand why you wouldn’t just choose to use the native Twitter app, or a third-party alternative.
