Adobe Launches Photoshop Elements 9 on Mac App Store
Despite Apple’s renowned hatred for Adobe’s Flash, Adobe remains an ally and continues to throw the Cupertino company 30% of a number of its software sales by releasing new products through the App Store for iOS devices. Today Adobe also entered the Mac App Store with a slightly watered-down version of Photoshop Elements 9.
Photoshop Elements 9 Editor is an $80 application that is intended to compliment iPhoto for users wanting to take their photos “to the next level with advanced compositing and stunning effects,” said Adobe’s vice president of digital imaging products, Winston Hendrickson.
Unlike the full $100 version of Photoshop Elements 9, this Mac App Store release doesn’t come bundled with the Adobe Elements Organizer application. The reasons for this are unknown, but I’d imagine it’s to tempt customers to purchase the software elsewhere.
MacWorld notes, however, that the omission of Adobe Elements Organizer won’t be an issue for users who use Apple’s iPhoto to manage their photo libraries:
The omission of the Elements Organizer, a tool for managing images, will not affect users who depend on iPhoto to manage their image library, and is in fact designed to be used alongside iPhoto for more advanced editing features than iPhoto offers.
Just like the full Photoshop Elements release, the Mac App Store version features editing tools such as content-aware fill, Group Shot, Panorama, and Style Match Photomerge.
The download weighs in at 1.02GB and supports Intel Macs running iOS 10.6.6 or later.
