If you’re a fan of iPhone photo app Hipstamatic, there’s some treats in store for you in the latest update. One is free extras (lenses and films) to give your pics a fresh new Hipsta twist, and the second is a new shared albums service for collating and curating photos.

The albums service is called Family Album and you can get to it from the prints view inside Hipstamatic.

You’ll need either a Facebook account or a Hipstaccount to set it up. This is a sharing service, after all, so they need to know who you are so they can link your identity to your photos.

Once it’s set up, there are three types of album you can create:

Shared albums – you set up, and invite other people to join you there. Everyone at the same event, wedding, party or just in the same car can contribute their images.

Photo albums – for curating collections of photos on a theme. You can add any public photos from the Hipstaverse, not just your own.

Magic albums – these ones fill themselves. You just put in a location, a date, a name or a hashtag, and the album auto-populates with pics culled from the Hipstastream.

Alongside the albums goodness there are the new freebies, both of them sponsored by corporates. One is a tie-in with the Cowboys and Aliens movie, simply called Cowboys and Aliens. The second, released back in June, is the NSW Freepak which comes courtesy of Nike. Once again, you must have a Hipstaccount to claim the free stuff.
