At least one carrier in South Korea has already started accepted preorders for the rumored “iPhone 9.”
Korea Telecom (KT) has plastered posters and banners all over one store that suggest a new Apple handset will arrive immenently. But the picture it is using to depict the device looks awfully familiar.
Apple is planning a huge lineup of products for early 2020, including a brand-new AirPower alternative, according to reliable TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Fans can also look forward to a low-cost iPhone, upgrades to iPad Pro and the MacBook lineup, high-end headphones, and more before the summer, he reported.
It’s no surprise Apple is working on a new iPhone SE for 2020. Recent rumors have indicated it will make its debut in the spring. But that particular model might be just one of two planned for this year.
A new report claims Apple is also working on a larger, “upgraded” version that will be available later in the year.
There are sometimes concerns that new iOS versions will cut the battery life of older iPhone models, or slow down performance. Tests on a variety of Apple handsets with the just-released iOS 13.3 show just the opposite — this update not only speeds up these devices, it increases the time between charges.
Apple’s second-generation iPhone SE will be available next March, priced at $399, according to one reliable analyst.
The entry-level device is expected to enter mass-production in January. It could add an additional 2 million to 4 million units to total iPhone sales in 2020.
Apple is rumored to be in talks with LG over a potential deal for iPhone SE 2 displays.
Sources say LG’s LCD panels are already undergoing “last-minute quality checks.” Apple is expected to start manufacturing the device late this year ahead of a release in early 2020.

Apple’s second-generation iPhone SE 2 will be its most affordable smartphone yet, according to one reliable analyst.
The upcoming device, which is expected to look like iPhone 8 and be powered by Apple’s new A13 Bionic chip, is expected to cost less than $400 when it goes on sale in early 2020.
You could be waiting longer than anticipated to get your hands on Apple’s next-generation iPad Pro. One trusted analyst says the refresh will arrive in early 2020 with the iPhone SE 2, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro will come even later.
This could mean that October Apple event we’ve all been waiting for won’t happen after all.
Strong demand for the iPhone 11 lineup could help Apple overtake Huawei in smartphone shipments during the fourth quarter of 2019.
Huawei has been clinging onto second place in global smartphone shipments since it leapfrogged Apple in early 2018. But iPhone 11 is selling so well that Apple just had to increase orders by 10%.
Apple is reportedly ramping up iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro production to meet stronger-than-expected demand.
The 10% increase will result in around 8 million additional units entering the market this year. It will also push early iPhone 11 production numbers past those for iPhone XR and iPhone XS.
Apple’s second-generation iPhone SE 2 will arrive during the first quarter of 2020, according to one reliable analyst.
Ming-Chi Kuo of TF Securities reaffirms the device will be larger this time around — adopting the iPhone 8’s design. He also claims it will be powered by Apple’s blazing-fast A13 Bionic chip.
A whole lot of innovation is in the offing for Apple’s biggest hardware event of the year. CEO Tim Cook recently promised that Apple will unleash its strongest product lineup ever, and next week’s “By Innovation Only” event could be just the tip of the iceberg.
Thanks to a glut of leaked info, we have a pretty solid idea about what new hardware to expect during the event. iPhones obviously will steal the spotlight, but Apple might unleash a few surprises as well.
This is what we think we’ll see during the 2019 iPhone keynote, which starts at 10 a.m. Pacific on September 10. Apple will live-stream it from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park in Cupertino, California.
A reliable source today echos claims that Apple is developing an iPhone SE upgrade for early next year.
The new low-cost handset will feature Touch ID, just as expected — but it won’t be the new in-display Touch ID technology that Apple could bring to other handsets in 2020.
That means there’s no hope of an edge-to-edge display.
It seems Apple hasn’t given up on the iPhone SE just yet. A new report claims an upgraded model is in the works — but you’ll have to wait until next spring to get your hands on it.
And it won’t be the iPhone SE upgrade you were hoping for.
You’ll find that and more Apple news, reviews and how-tos in this week’s free issue of Cult of Mac Magazine. Download it now for iOS, or get the links below to read the stories in your browser.
Years ago, somebody dropped my old iPhone 5, and the screen exploded into a crazed sheet of splinters. Yesterday I finally “fixed” it by sticking a glass screen protector over the whole mess. It still looks terrible, but at least now I can use it without glass shards lodging in my fingertips.
And, now that I can handle the phone again, I realize that I love it. And it got me thinking. Why doesn’t Apple make a phone sized like the old iPhone 5, or iPhone SE, only with an edge-to-edge screen like the iPhones X?
There’s a glimmer of hope that Apple will once again make a truly budget handset. Information leaking out of this company’s supply chain indicates that there could be an iPhone SE 2 introduced in 2020.
The iPhone 6s is still alive and well in some markets — one of which is India, where the 2015 flagship is now being manufactured.
Apple is using this to sell the handset to locals. India has become an increasingly important market for the company as smartphone growth in other areas slows to a crawl.
Apple is preparing an entry-level “iPhone XE” that will be introduced this fall, according to a sketchy new report.
The device is claimed to be an iPhone SE successor with huge improvements, including an edge-to-edge display and Face ID. It could also pack Apple’s latest A12 Bionic processor.
Apple has seemingly given up on the iPhone SE form factor. However, it’s not given up selling them — as evidenced by the fact that Apple’s diminutive, 4-inch handset just turned up on Apple’s Online Store.
Apple is selling the handsets in silver, gold, silver, and space gray — with prices starting at a mere $249. That’s great news for anyone who doesn’t want to drop the money necessary to pick up an iPhone XR, iPhone XS, or XS Max.
After Cult of Mac published an editorial recommending an iPhone SE 2, many readers chimed in with support.
The editorial argued that Apple’s success in emerging markets requires a small, inexpensive iOS handset, but quite a few of the comments gave reasons why this model should be released in the U.S. and Europe.
Need a new iPhone? Are you currently… an Android user? (What are you doing here? Oh, right! Reevaluating your smartphone choices!) It just so happens right now is a great time to be in the market for a smartphone because Cult of Mac has you covered with these deals on refurbished iPhones. All of these iPhones are CDMA/GSM unlocked so perfect for all major U.S. carriers. Lastly, these refurbished iPhones are in “Grade A” condition with up to three minor scratches.
The iPhone SE is making a rare appearance on Apple’s clearance page. This discontinued model was already inexpensive, and it’s available now for $100 or $150 less than the usual price, depending on the model.
But don’t dither; it’s likely to sell out again quickly.
A sketchy rumor or two indicates that a replacement for the iPhone SE is in development, and an artist ran with this idea to create a video of an updated version of this low-cost handset.
