Get This: Vimeo Releases Totally Redesigned, Simpler iPhone App

By

Vimeo 3.0 iPhone

Vimeo has released version 3.0 of its iPhone app, and the update brings a simpler, more intuitive interface with new features. You may remember that Vimeo for iPhone 2.0 went live in the App Store back in February, and today’s update is a significant upgrade. Vimeo has gotten rid of the cluttered in-app video editor and introduced a completely new look.

This is the first time that Vimeo itself has completely designed its own app, and it should be a huge hit for Vimeo users.

Concept Designer Imagines A Cleaner, More Futuristic Instagram iPhone App [Video]

By

Like many of you, I love Instagram. It’s one of my top 5 most used iPhone apps. Lately I’ve started to get tried of Instagram’s user interface. While the app’s design has certainly evolved over the years, the overall aesthetic has stayed the same since 2010. I really like the minimalist, Metro-ish design taste, and apparently so does a concept designer named Stephen M. Levinson.

Stephen has uploaded a short video of how he has re-imagined Instagram, and it looks awesome. “I redesigned parts to be a bit more intuitive to gestures, removed the top menu bar that felt unnecessary, and I wanted to make the shots look like actual polaroids,” he told TechCrunch.

I’m not sure about all of Stephen’s design choices, but I love the idea of Instagram having a more gesture-driven interface. What do you think?

Delete Recent Recipients From Mail On Your iPhone, iPad [iOS Tips]

By

Recent Contacts

Ever wanted to remove all those recently contacted emails from the drop down list in your Mail app on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad? The lists gets kind of long, and maybe you just want to narrow it down to the folks in your list of contacts, rather than all the folks you’ve contacted recently.

You can do this fairly easily on your iOS device, provided you don’t mind removing one address at a time. The address also has to not be in your Contacts on the device, either.

Court Tells Samsung To Pay Apple $129,000 Per Day On Top Of Galaxy Devices Ban

By

apple-and-samsung- jury

Some of Apple’s lawsuits in Europe haven’t been going that well, but they’ve still been dominating Samsung in the Netherlands. A new ruling from the Dutch court has banned the sales of a few Samsung Galaxy devices after the court ruled that Samsung infringed on Apple’s patents.

Apple’s patent for scrolling through a photo gallery on a touchscreen was able to sink Samsung’s Galaxy devices, but then the court added more pain to the ruling by demanding Samsung pay Apple $129,000 per day.

The Funniest iOS App Review You’ll Read All Week [Image]

By

googleearthreview
A real review for the iOS Google Earth app

There are various techniques one can use when dropping a horrible review for an app. You could give it a single star and move on. Or say it’s worthless. Or list a specific problem with the app hoping it gets fixed in the future. Or you could go with the all caps/rant approach.

Each method is effective in its own way, and iOS user Bmwworld knows them all. Except he sadly thinks that Google Earth is a live satellite feed of the world and is getting really pissed that his car never moves on the app, or that he can’t run outside and wave at the camera. In a storm of frustration he left the magnificent rant/review you see above in the App Store. We applaud him for his beautiful incorrectness and award him with the Best Worst Review of the Week award.

This Is The First Music Video To Be Filmed By Only Using Instagram [Video]

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

Instagram is a totally cool and hip way to share your wannabe vintage photos of your fabulous life, but apparently it can also be used to create hip and cool music videos by snapping one retro picture at a time.

To create his music video for the song “Invasión,” Arturo Perez Jr. snapped 1905 photos around the San Francisco area and then combined them to create a video. Perez Jr. says it’s the first video to be made through Instagram and we believe him, because you’ve gotta be crazy to sit around and apple the Sierra filter to 1905 photos in a row.

Waigo App Translates Chinese Menus

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

Do you trust the translations you see on Chinese menus? I don’t. Why? Because my local Chinese restaurant — which lists dishes in Chinese, English and Spanish — manages to write a different description for each one.

Luckily, Waigo is here to help, with it’s augmented-reality translation. Or is that “here to confuse”?

Local Apple Retail Store Out Of Stock On iPad Mini LTE? Here’s How To Order One Anyway

By

Screen Shot 2012-11-27 at 6.09.54 PM

So, I sold my iPad mini WiFi today, in hopes I could head to my local Apple retail store and pick one up. My friend was headed down to the store to pick hers up, so I figured there were plenty in stock. Just to be safe, I gave them a call to check on the availability of the 16G model LTE that I wanted to purchase.

The local Apple rep that picked up the phone said that they were out of stock, and did not know when new ones would be available.

I hopped onto the Apple Store app, in hopes I could fool the system, and order one for store pickup, anyway. Sadly, I was unable to get the app to allow me to buy one for in-store pickup; I could only get it to send me one via mail, with a 2 week shipping date.

Then I got crafty.
