AirPods wireless charging hack beats Apple to the punch
Apple will make you cough up $69 for a new case if you want to charge your AirPods wirelessly, according to some reports. But if you can get your hands on the right components, you can add wireless charging capabilities to an existing case for next to nothing.
Here’s how.
iPhones get faster 7.5-watt wireless charging with iOS 11.2
Apple adds support for faster 7.5-watt wireless charging in its latest iOS 11.2 beta. iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X all support the increased charging speed. You’ll need a compatible wireless charging mat to take advantage of it, however.
How to wirelessly charge your shiny new iPhone
“Wireless” charging is possible with the iPhones 8, 8 Plus, and X. Doing so might seem as simple as just tossing the handset onto a charging mat, and largely it is. But there are some tips to make sure charging works as expected, and several things to avoid to make sure your phone ends up full in the morning.

How Google’s new Pixel 2 stacks up against latest iPhones
Google’s new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL might be a little disappointing to some Android fans, but they’re still stellar smartphones. Both sport attractive designs that pack the best hardware available, including excellent cameras, and the speedy Snapdragon 835 chipset.
But can they convince iPhone fans to jump ship? Here’s how the new Pixel lineup compares to iPhone 8 and the upcoming iPhone X.
Apple’s new ad gives 8 reasons to love iPhone 8
The iPhone 8 isn’t getting as hyped a reception from fans as previous models, but Apple’s making a hard push to lure in customers with its latest video.
Apple’s newest commercial gives people 8 things to love about the new iPhone 8, from durable glass front and back to its insanely fast A11 processor. Most fans are holding out for the iPhone X, however, you might be convinced to upgrade earlier after watching the new 47-second spot.
Best iPhone 8 battery cases and backup batteries
Even the giant plus-sized iPhones run out of juice eventually, and that goes for the new iPhone 8 as much as any iPhone before it. You could carry a charger with you and spend the day hunting for available wall-sockets, but these days that’s as lame as using dodgy free Wi-Fi instead of reliable and fast LTE. Instead, you should take some backup power with you. There are two options: battery cases, great for really heavy phone users who always run out of power before lunch, and a spare battery with a USB cable that can charge your iPhone, or any device, but stays in the bottom of your bag until it’s needed.
Let’s take a look at the options. There’s also one very cool surprise feature in one of our picks that “wireless” charging fans are going to love.
Apple will make iPhone wireless charging faster soon
The wireless charging capabilities of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will reportedly receive a boost later this year, courtesy of a future over-the-air firmware update from Apple.
Right now, the iPhone 8 charges at a rate equal to that of the 5-watt USB Power Adapter that Apple provides with the iPhone. However, according to an early review of the device (no doubt with a tip-off from Apple), this will increase slightly later this year.
This magical car mount wirelessly charges iPhone X
The wireless future Apple is embracing is starting to look absolutely magical. And very convenient.
iPhone X and iPhone 8 owners that want to mount their device on the dashboard of their car won’t have to deal with a mess of wires and dongles to charge and listen to music at the same time, thanks to a brilliant new mount from Scosche.
The pros and cons of wireless charging
The new iPhone 8 and iPhone X support “wireless” charging. That is, you can toss them onto a charging mat instead of plugging in a Lightning cable. Obviously this is more convenient when you’re at home — you can put a pad on your nightstand, desk or hallway table.
But there are other advantages to iPhone wireless charging that aren’t so obvious. And there is also one big disadvantage — one that has the potential to cause major damage to the Earth.
Adding wireless charging to your AirPods will cost $69
Apple’s new Wireless Charging Case for AirPods will go on sale this December, according to a report out of Europe, which sites Apple Switzerland. The device is expected to cost $69, which is the same amount you’ll pay to replace a standard case if you lose it.

Apple’s wireless charging pad won’t land for quite some time
Apple’s been working on its own wireless charging accessory, but don’t necessarily expect to see it to ship alongside the company’s new iPhones.
That’s according to respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. While the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X will reportedly all support wireless inductive charging standards, users must settle for third-party Qi chargers (at least at first).
Most Apple fans have no idea what to expect from iPhone 8
If you’ve been keeping up with the iPhone 8 rumors, you’ll know exactly what to expect from Apple’s big refresh this fall. But for the vast majority of fans, the upgrade will come as a huge surprise.
One survey has found that for ordinary iPhone users, the urge to upgrade is no more significant than it has been for previous, more incremental releases.
iPhone 8 inductive charging may be a wee bit slow
One of the biggest new features on Apple’s next-generation iPhone might be a bit of disappointment to buyers.

This time, it’s another circular circuit board — but it doesn’t quite line up with previous iPhone 8 leaks.
This could be the circuit that brings wireless charging to iPhone 8
New photos of apparent iPhone 8 components once again corroborate rumors that the device will finally deliver wireless charging. We’ve already seen an image of its wireless charging coil, and now we have a charging circuit to go along with it.

Thanks to secrets discovered in Apple’s own firmware, we already know a lot about the iPhone 8. Now an apparent X-ray of the device has all but confirmed even more of its hottest features ahead of its official debut this fall.
iPhone 8 leak all but confirms big new feature
A new iPhone 8 leak all but confirms one of the handset’s biggest new features.
A component we haven’t seen in an iPhone before — almost certainly a wireless charging module — surfaced recently on a Chinese social network. It appears to be equipped with a Lightning connector and is clearly labeled “iPhone.”
iPhone 8’s biggest features could be disabled at launch
Some of the iPhone 8’s biggest new features could be disabled when the handset makes its debut this September.
A new report claims Apple is struggling to iron out software issues that are rendering wireless charging and another major feature unusable for now.
