Spotify Finally Gets Updated For The iPhone 5

By

Spotify iPhone 5

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve seen me complain about Spotify’s lack of iPhone 5 support for the past several weeks. Every single app on my Home screen has been updated for the iPhone 5’s taller display except Spotify, and it has been getting on my nerves. First world problems, I know.

Whether you share my pain or not, Spotify has finally pushed out an update for its iOS app that brings support for the iPhone 5’s full resolution. You’ll of course need a premium account to play music. The Pandora radio-like part of Spotify is free for everyone.

Version 0.5.8 says, “Spotify now looks great on iPhone 5!” You can grab it now in the App Store.

Finally.

Lightning Insert Makes Elevation Dock iPhone 5 Friendly

By

Fix-up.
Fix-up.

I’m so desperate for a dock for my new iPhone 5 that I have closely studied the little perspex stands in the local Apple Store and scoured the local hardware emporiums for something — anything — that comes close to its acrylic simplicity.

I have so far failed, and am currently using the box the iPhone came in as a pretty handy stand. But I’m not really that serious about docks, unlike the people who dropped cash and patience on the Elevation Dock from Kickstarter, only to have it obsoleted by the new Lightning connector weeks after it shipped.

Anyway, all of this lede-burying is preamble to one thing: you can now buy a Lightning insert for your Elevation Dock.

Sparrow’s iPhone 5 Update Gets Rejected By Apple

Sparrow is still letterboxed on iPhone 5. Sigh.
Sparrow is still letterboxed on iPhone 5. Sigh.

Shortly after the iPhone 5 made its debut back in September, the team behind Sparrow announced that it would be updating its email client for the handset’s new 4-inch display — despite its decision to cease development of the app after joining forces with Google.

It seems we could be waiting some time for that update, however: Sparrow has revealed that Apple rejected its latest release for violating its App Store terms.

A Touchscreen iMac Might Be Impractical, But It Would Look Awesome In The New iPad Mini Ad [Video]

The iMac touch might be impractical, but it looks good in the new iPad mini commercial.
The iMac touch might be impractical, but it looks good in the new iPad mini commercial.

Steve Jobs said that touchscreen desktops just don’t work, pretty much ruling out the possibility of a touchscreen iMac in the future. But he also said that tablets under ten inches don’t work, and his company is now selling the awesome iPad mini. There’s every chance, then, that we’ll see an ‘iMac touch’ someday, and it’ll fit in perfectly alongside Apple’s iOS devices — as this awesome concept commercial demonstrates.

If Apple Doesn’t Sell 3 Million iPad Minis This Weekend, It’s A Failure [Analyst]

By

The iPad mini lines have been nowhere near as big as expected.
The iPad mini lines have been nowhere near as big as expected.

Apple is the only consumer electronics company in the world that consistently releases new gadgets that sell in their millions during the first few days of availability. During their respective launch weekends alone, Apple sold 3 million third-generation iPad units, 4 million iPhone 4S units, and 5 million iPhone 5 units.

In fact, the company’s iOS devices have become so popular that they’re now considered a failure if they don’t sell several million within their first 72 hours on the market. According to one analyst, the iPad mini has to shift at least 3 million units this weekend for it to be considered a successful device.

The 4th gen iPad looks almost exactly the same as the 3rd gen iPad — inside and out.
The 4th gen iPad looks almost exactly the same as the 3rd gen iPad — inside and out.

iFixit has now performed its customary teardown on Apple’s fourth-generation iPad, and it seems like a lengthy case of déjà vu. While there are some differences between this model and its predecessor, such as the introduction of Apple’s new A6X processor and Lightning connector, it seems the device remains largely the same — inside and out.

Bug Means iPhone 5 Needs Separate App To Update To iOS 6.0.1

By

iOSupdater

Apple just released iOS 6.0.1 to squash some bugs that have been running around on all iOS devices. But if you have an iPhone 5 the OTA update process is a lot different than usual because one of the bugs iOS 6.0.1 fixes is the inability for iPhone 5s to install over the air updates.

To get the update, you’ll have to download an app called iOS Updater, which isn’t difficult to get but we’ve got a quick guide to help you update your iPhone 5 just in case things get a little confusing.

That's one happy iPhone 5 customer.
That's one happy iPhone 5 customer.

If you didn’t see it during the keynote, you can now watch it online; Apple’s posted the video to the iPhone 5 page of its website, but you can see it below.

By

googlesearchapp

Google is still the champion when it comes to search, but their iOS app has lacked a lot of the neat features that you can use on Android. A big update to the Google Search app has fixed all that though and brought improved voice search capabilities to iOS.

The update is pretty significant for iPhone 5 users and can be downloaded free via the App Store. The biggest update to the app is that users can now can use natural language to control Google Search as well as listen to Google Search dictate the results of your query back to you.

By

I’m not going to write up every single photo gadget that gets updated for the iPhone 5 (I’ll stop when Olloclip ships an updated version of its clip-on accessory lens, I promise). But as iPhone 5 gear is as thin on the ground as the iPhone 5 is thin in your hand, then the new Holga Filter Case is worth a mention — not least because is also gets a new color.

View More Of A Webpage On Your iPhone With Full Screen Safari [iOS Tips]

By

fullscreen safari

Using the real web on an iPhone is a wonderful thing. Apple has made their iOS browser, Safari, into a solid powerhouse of web-browsing goodness, ready to use out of the box, accessible in many ways to many kinds of people. It’s a great app.

And yet, the size of the iPhone screen, iPhone 5 included, can be a bit cramped. Add in the top address bar and the bottom button bar, and you have even less screen real estate to use for actual browsing. That’s why Apple included a new feature in iOS: full screen browsing.

Blux Camera Is The App Rick Deckard Would Use

By

1351509213.jpg

If Rick Deckard had carried an iPhone in the movie Blade Runner, and he’d used a camera app, that app would have been BLUX. Not only is it a pretty great iPhone camera replacement app, but it has all the bleeps, bloops, on-screen graphics a futuristic sci-fi replicant could ask for. Hell, it even has a neat computer voice that offers photographic advice.
