Steve Jobs’s life was full of lessons on how to be successful, as well as the pitfalls to avoid when pursuing your dream. Walter Isaacson’s biography on Steve Jobs has had a huge impact on people across the globe, so THNKR sat down with some of the journalists, authors, and tech entrepreneurs to get their thoughts on Steve Jobs one year after his passing.

Steve Jobs: Life & Legacy Reexamined features interviews with Walter Isaacson, Steven Johnson, Guy Winch, Steve Kroft, and many more, including our very own Leander Kahney. You can watch the episode above, or go to BOOKD’s YouTube page to find out more about Steve Jobs’s legacy.

It Takes A Lot Of Water To Kill An iPhone 5 [Video]

What a waste of good coffee.
What a waste of good coffee.

If you’ve ever managed to spill liquid on an electronic device, then you’ll know that it doesn’t take too much to kill them completely; liquid and electronics simply do not mix. But you might be surprised by how well your iPhone 5 fares when it comes into contact with its biggest enemy.

Is AOL’s ‘Clucks’ The Next Big Social Media Craze? [Daily Freebie]

I’ve never actually played Taboo (which is apparently massively popular; shows you just how much I get out); so when Clucks‘ PR guy referred to this new game as “video Taboo for iPhone,” my reaction was: Huh? So I looked up the game on Wikipedia (and finally realized that I had, indeed, heard of Taboo before), and it turns out that’s a perfect description for Clucks. But he might have called it “the next big social media craze on the iPhone,” because that might turn out to be an even better description.

Apple Attempts To Trademark Its Music Icon, But Myspace Got There First

By

Let's hope it's not really called iRadio.
The Music app on iPad.

Almost everything Apple creates is patented and trademarked in an effort to ensure that other companies can’t steal its ideas (though they do). However, sometimes the folks in Cupertino hit a stumbling block. That’s what happened when Apple attempted to trademark its Music app icon recently, only to find that Myspace got there first.

It Was Only A Matter Of Time Before Der Führer Found Out About iOS 6 Maps [Humor]

We all knew this was coming. It was only a matter of time before Hitler found out about Apple’s new iOS 6 Maps. As you may have already guessed, der Führer isn’t all that happy with the new service and is quite irate over the fact that his house is listed as a fountain in Austria.

Watch the hilarity unfold as Hitler is informed that a Google Maps app has yet to be approved and his army is officially all out of 30-pin connectors.

The Ultimate iPhone 5 Destruction Video Gallery

By

willitdunk

Humans have progressed a long way since the days of “Will It Blend?” Rather than just tossing an iPhone into a blender, we now have dozens of ways we like to watch the iPhone get destroyed on YouTube. After the iPhone 5 was released on Friday the internet went to work on different ways to destroy it – like having an NBA player dunk it, blowing it up in a microwave, or shooting it with a .50 caliber rifle.

Here are  the best iPhone 5 destruction videos:

The iPhone 5 Destroys Samsung Galaxy S3 In Real Life Drop Test

By

post-192186-image-00ea6235ca9171be5fa54293d5998183-jpg

The iPhone 5 looks pretty, but how does it fare when it’s actually used in the real world? If you accidentally drop it from 5 feet, will it shatter? Android Authority is already on the case and did a drop test comparison with the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3, which you can watch in the video above.

The iPhone 5 dominated the competition. It picked up a few scratches and dings, but the screen never shattered after being dropped 4 times, whereas the S3 screen cracked multiple times and its back casing flew off.

The Funniest Video You’ll See About The iPhone 5’s Height Increase [Humor]

I usually hate these fake Apple parody ads for being both smug and witless, but I laughed pretty hard at this one by Satire. Featuring a number of earnestly hipstered faux-Apple employees with names like “Joe Bloggs” and “Alan Smithee,” the video takes the Obi-Wan iPhone 20 joke that’s been going around and actually runs with it, showing exactly how Cupertino would pitch a phone the length of a yardstick.

The touted features Satire comes up with are great. Panorama photos without moving the iPhone! Scrolling without using mulitouch! Amazing reception due to having your iPhone in physical closer proximity to orbiting satellites! And so much more. The app ideas are great too. And I love the tag line: “The longest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone.”

Does This Video Prove Apple Could Sell You Anything?

By

post-191162-image-e61df319e5e64fd7d83cad4e3b630b92-jpg

Jony Ive is always so damn beautiful in every Apple product video. His gorgeous british accent just washes over my eardrums and magically hypnotizes me into buying whatever product Apple is pushing. Like, dude could sell me a mason jar of horse fat mixed with dead butterflies and pig’s blood and as long as Apple made a pretty video explaining why they made it, then I would be all about it.

To prove that point, Buzzfeed FWD mashed up Jony’s latest video with a video on how nasty, filthy, disgusting hot dogs are made. It’s sick and lovely, and pretty much proves that Apple could sell you anything they want and it would sound awesome. Do you agree? Let us hear your thoughts about Apple’s video sorcery in the comments below.

Every Adjective Apple Has Ever Used To Describe The iPhone [Video]

By

jobs

Every time Apple launches a new iPhone they use a lot of fabulous adjectives to describe how incredibly mind blowing it is. They usually use the same adjectives over and over to beat it into your small feeble brain that this new iPhone is revolutionaryfast, and cool.

The guys at Buzzfeed made a ridiculously amazing video full of a video editing precision that contains all the adjective Apple has used to describe the iPhone over the last five years. It’s glorious, so watch it below.

Watch This Idiot Thief Crash His BMW Through The Apple Store Glass [Video]

By

thief

Why is it that all Apple Store burglars have to have the intellectual capacity of a six year-old hyped up on Mountain Dew? Our latest Apple thief, Equonne R. Howard, decided it’d be a great idea to ram his BMW X-5 through the front glass of the Temecula Apple Store and steal a bunch of Apple products.

What Howard didn’t count on happening, was getting two flat tires in the process, and the drop gate for the store closing. He reversed full speed into the drop gate a couple times and eventually got out, but the dummy’s license plate fell off and he got caught when he went back later to retrieve it. Brilliant! Watch the video below to see his car crashing through the glass:

These Sad People Think They Have The iPhone 5 When It’s Really An iPhone 4S [Video]

By

post-190505-image-612b4b300f779ab1359921dc464d9a0e-jpg

If hand people an iPhone 4S but tell them that it’s the amazing new iPhone 5, will the believe you? Apparently the answer is yes, and they’ll even wax poetic about how its screen is bigger,  has faster performance, and is lighter, even though it’s really not.

It’s the emperor’s iPhone 5 and people absolutely can’t wait to get their hands on it even though there’s nothing different or new about it.

Steve Jobs Raps About The iPhone 5, Bashes Tim Cook In Humorous Parody Video [Humor]

Bored of all iPhone 5 and iPad mini rumors? How about a little light-hearted rap to brighten up your day? Check out this hilarious parody video  from Mondo, in which a Steve Jobs hologram appears at an Apple event to rap about the iPhone 5 and puts Tim Cook in his place.

The clip contains some obscenities, but I think you’ll agree it’s pretty funny without being too irreverent.

Introducing The iPhone 5 With Widescreen Retina Display [Video]

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

Created and animated by Sam Becket, this cheery video of all the features the next iPhone 5 will pack when Apple announces it tomorrow.

Unlike some of the videos that have gone around lately, it’s remarkably down-to-earth, emphasizing (as Apple will) the device’s extraordnary thinness, its new antenna, the new 9-pin Dock Connector, LTE, the new nanoSIM, the longer screen and more.

First Video Of A Working iPhone 5 Leaked, Boots Up In iOS 6

By

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=kaVzt-_zajE

This is a heck of a video, in that it shows an iPhone 5 booting up next to an iPhone 4S. Even better, it seems real.

According to MIC Gadget, the iPhone 5 was “accidentally” discovered in Foxconn’s Jincheng factory, which basically means it was smuggled out and is stolen property. Whatever the provenance, though, it seems to be legit: the official first sighting of a working iPhone 5 in the wild.

What else do we know? Not much: the iPhone 5 boots up much more quickly than the iPhone 4S, but otherwise, it’s not capable of being activated at this point, so the iPhone 5 stalls at the activation screen.

What It Will Be Like To Use The Next iPhone’s 4-Inch Display [Video]

By

post-188314-image-98325043ca05a4e058365cb36a78fca6-jpg

This is fantastic. The guys over at Macrumors have put together a fantastic and very Apple-like video, expounding upon the virtues of the next iPhone’s larger 4-inch display. More apps, bigger homescreen, no more letterboxing in movies and widescreen gaming are the primary qualities promoted here. It’s fine work, and it really has me excited to see how Apple’s going to demonstrate this same capability come September 12th.

New From Sony: NEX-5R Compact System Camera With Apps, Pygmy-Sized Action Cam

By

sony-nex5r-1

Sony says they’re getting ready to ship two drool-inducing new toys. The first is a new addition to its compact NEX series, the NEX-5R, equipped with wifi, an ultra-quick (according to Sony), hybrid phase-detection/contrast detection autofocus system and — here’s where it gets really interesting — the ability to download specialized apps.

The second is Sony’s entry into the exploding action-cam market; the aptly named Action Cam is a really tiny, 3-ounce (with battery) video camera that comes with a variety of outdoor-enthusiast mounting options and the ability to use a smartphone’s screen as a viewfinder.

Looxcie Challenges Ustream With Their Own, Free, Direct-to-Facebook Streaming App — A First on Android

By

post-187907-image-97cec0c7075078c1e8cda76779190d0b-jpg

Looxcie today launched their own Facebook channel, along with an update to their free live-streaming app — called LooxcieLive that turns any Android or iOS device into a video broadcast camera that streams video straight to your Facebook feed.

Of course, Looxcie’s isn’t the first app to do this; Utsream did the same thing just a week or so ago with their own app, Broadcast for Friends (with the gag-me-cute acronym of BFF). The difference here is that Looxcie’s Facebook channel can also serve up live broadcasts from Looxcie’s own hardware — which may make first-person-perspective shooting easier than, say, duct-taping your smartphone to your forehead (snicker all you want, we’re sure it’s been done). And, of course, Looxcie is first out the gate — and the only  Ustream to the punch with an Android app.

This Is What Happens When You Accidentally Drop An iMac Down A Mall Escalator? [Video]

By

iMacPrank

What would happen if you took a beautiful, brand new iMac and “accidentally” dropped it in front of a bunch of strangers? Would they weep with you, or would they just laugh on by while calling you a bumbling idiot?

One guy thought it’d be a great prank to walk around the mall with an iMac box, and drop it in front of crowds, just to see what the reaction would be. He didn’t just drop it, though. He flung it down escalators. Tossed it into the trunk of his car. And knocked it off the top of a roof, and then tried to take the iMac box back to the Apple Store.

Check out the video below to see people’s reactions when the most beautiful computer in the universe gets clumsily destroyed.

What’s a budding videographer supposed to do with these huge files when sending them to our friends and family?

Turns out, you can trim the videos down right on your iOS device using the Trim feature. Here’s how.

Apple Sued For Allegedly Infringing Media Playback Patent That It Half-Heartedly Tried To License

Apple finds itself involved in yet another patent lawsuit.

Apple has been named in a California lawsuit filed by EPL Holdings for allegedly infringing a patent that covers audio and video playback at varying speeds. The filing reports that EPL met with Apple back 2002 to discuss  licensing over the patents it had developed. But the Cupertino company is alleged to have used the technology anyway without reaching a licensing deal.

How To Stream DRM-Protected Video From iOS Apps Via AirPlay And HDMI [Jailbreak]

By

Streaming Mission Impossible from Amazon Instant Video on the iPad to the Apple TV? Yes please!
Streaming Mission Impossible from Amazon Instant Video on the iPad to the Apple TV? Yes please!

There are many premium content services that use DRM to limit where and how you can watch videos. iOS apps like HBOGO, DirecTV, and Amazon Instant Video will all let you watch content on your device, but you’re blocked from streaming via AirPlay or through an HDMI cable. We know, it’s silly. It’s all because of the contacts and licensing deals Hollywood makes with digital distributors.

What if there was a world in which no DRM could keep your content shackled to an iOS device? A new jailbreak tweak makes it possible to stream what you’re watching—no matter what the source—to your TV through the magic of AirPlay.

First Macintosh Praised By Its Creators In Rare Promo Video From 1983

I bet you haven't seen this clip before.
I bet you haven't seen this clip before.

A rare Apple promotional video for the original Macintosh has surfaced online today, courtesy of one of the machine’s creators, Andy Hertzfeld. The one-minute clip, which was produced in 1983 by Chiat-Day, features members of the Macintosh team — including Hertzfeld, Bill Atkinson, Burrell Smith, and Mike Murray — who praise their product for its affordability, reliability, and more.
