iPhoto Coming To iPad 3 [Rumor]

The iPad 3's A6 processor and retina display would be perfect for iPhoto

Today’s pre-event rumors say that there may be a version of iPhoto announced for the iPad 3, and it certainly makes sense. Daring Fireball’s John Gruber and Panic’s Neven Mrgan both argue that iPhoto is an obvious candidate for an iPad with a beautiful Retina display, and Gabe Glick, writing at MacStories, makes the case for Aperture. I think at least some of them may be right.

Verizon-iPad

The rumor mill has been saying that Apple’s third-gen iPad will come equipped with LTE 4G networking. The feature is speculated to be U.S.-only on AT&T and Verizon, with international and other carrier details remaining scare.

We’ve gotten word that the nation’s largest wireless provider, Verizon, has been installing LTE equipment in U.S. Apple retail stores ahead of the iPad 3 launch.

Apple has silently added a new section to the App Store called “Catalogs.” On the eve of the iPad 3 announcement, the section seems to have launched prematurely, as it’s not yet visible with the rest of the App Store’s categories. You can only find it by visiting this direct link, and there are no apps available to download in the iTunes directory.

IT Leaders On iPad 3 – We Don’t Expect Apple To Deliver Enterprise Features

By

What do IT staffers and execs want to see in the iPad 3? Pretty much the same things as everyone else.

Apple is the pink elephant in the room at the CITE Conference in San Francisco. The company isn’t participating but the company’s products, particularly the iPad, are constantly being discussed. In talking to attendees about tomorrow’s iPad 3 launch event, there isn’t a specific IT-oriented feature that they want to see.

Apple officials have reportedly confirmed that the company will not be taking its pop-up retail store to this year’s South by Southwest Interactive Festival, which kicks off on Friday, March 9. The decision suggests Apple’s iPad 3 will not be ready for shipping next week.

Reuters: iPad 3 Comes With 4G LTE

Cult of Mac’s reviews editor Charlie Sorrel and I have a bet going on whether or not the iPad 3 will have LTE.

I figure Apple’s got to see the impact of LTE on their iOS devices sometime, and the iPad is the perfect launch platform for it: they can sell the functionality as optional and at a premium, as they do 3G, making sure a minimum number of people get burned by a lack of LTE deployment in their area (and falling back on HSPA+ when LTE isn’t around)…. all the while the iPad 3’s biggery battery mitigates 4G power management issues.

Charlie thinks that argument’s stupid, and LTE’s far too immature to deploy. At stake is a solid buck, or half Charlie’s monthly salary, so tensions are high as the iPad 3 announcement lurches closer and closer on the calendar.

The latest report suggest that buck could very well be mine.

Ahead Of iPad 3 Launch, Verizon Says Something Big Is Coming

By

Screen Shot 2012-03-06 at 10.32.50 AM

If you go to Verizon Wireless‘s front page right now, they are hyping the imminent launch of something, which we can only assume is iPad 3 related.

But what is it? An iPad 3 with LTE is obviously a big contender, but I wonder if it could be something less splashy but just as important overall, like shared data plans.

What’s your guess? Let us know in the comments!

98% Of Apple Retail Stores In U.S. Have No Apple TV Stock Left Ahead Of Rumored Refresh

The Apple TV expands its reach in Asia.

Stock of the Apple TV has been quickly dwindling across Apple retail stores in the U.S. in recent months, fueling speculation that the device will soon be replaced by a new model with the “J33” codename that recently popped up in the company’s iOS 5.1 beta software.

One report claims that 98% of Apple retail stores in the U.S. now have no Apple TV stock at all.

More Evidence That The iPad 3 Will Be Called “iPad HD”

By

Is that an eyeball inside the artwork?
Notice anything subtly familiar?

As I’ve argued before, there’s a good chance the third-gen iPad will be called the “iPad HD.” The rumored tablet is expected to feature a pixel-packed Retina display as its flagship feature, and the “HD” suffix could help differentiate it as a newer, higher-quality device.

Two separate reports have been published today stating that Apple will indeed call Wednesday’s tablet the iPad HD.

The iPad 3 Will Be Better Than Having a 42-Inch HDTV In Your Hand

By

retina

The iPad 3 is going to have an amazingly sharp screen. Like the iPhone 4S, users won’t be able to see the individual pixels of the iPad 3’s retina display because all 3,145,728 pixels will be densely packed together at 264 pixels-per-inch.

Ok, that’s cool, but what does that actually mean? Well, it if you wanted to get the same amount of pixels into the iPad 2 using its current technology you’d have to use a 19inch screen. The iPad 3 packs more pixels total than a 42inch LCD TV.

Here’s a couple other visual comparisons:

Massive Apple Air Freight Deal Could Mean iPad 3 Will Ship Even Sooner Than We Thought

By

Apple is putting a squeeze on the air freight industry with a massive order of iPad 3 shipments, according to multiple reports today. As Wednesday’s announcement draws near, Apple has singlehandedly bought the majority of air cargo space coming out of China at premium rates. Other companies are reportedly scrambling to buy what little space Apple hasn’t already claimed.

More Confirmation: iPad 3 Will “Definitely” Have LTE 4G

By

iMore, the same site that correctly predicted the date of Apple’s iPad event on March 7th, has now said that the iPad 3 will “definitely” have LTE 4G. The Wall Street Journal previously predicted this feature with no indication of whether the speed improvements will make their way to the iPhone 5.

There’s also been no indication of whether 4G speeds on the iPad will be available outside of the United States.

Apple Planning New Smart Cover For iPad 3, Sticking With Glass Back For iPhone 5 [Rumor]

Alleged iPad 3 part leaks have revealed that the magnetized Smart Cover will work on the upcoming tablet, but Apple is still set to introduce an enhanced cover for the iPad 3, according to a new report. Citing a “repeatedly reliable source,” iLounge says that a new Smart Cover with a fiberglass back is coming.

On top of that, the report contradicts previous rumors saying the sixth-gen iPhone will feature an aluminum casing. Instead, Apple is said to be implementing Gorilla Glass 2 material for the next iPhone’s exterior design.

This Is The iPad 3 Case Best Buy Is Secretly Stockpiling By The Thousands

By

5663731034_0bb92f6d2b_z
Best Buy is reportedly sitting on thousands of Targus Versavu 360 cases for iPad 3 ahead of Apple's Wednesday announcement.

Could iPad 3 cases already be shipping to Best Buy? Sure, and probably are. Does that mean third-party case manufacturers know what to expect? Don’t count on it, but if so, the iPad 3 case above — a variation on the existing Targus Versavu 360 case for iPad 2 — is the first one you’ll be able to buy.

The iPad Mini Is Coming This Summer, Says Samsung

Is that the iPad mini? Nope, but Samsung says it's coming.
Is that the iPad mini? Nope, but Samsung says it's coming.

The iPad 3 will be officially unveiled just days from now, but the rumor mill is always forward-looking, which means it’s already on its way to being yesterday’s news. What can we expect after the iPad 3? That’s what everyone wants to know now.

If a report from Apple’s best frenemy Samsung is anything to go by, it’ll be the long-rumored iPad mini.
