New iOS Tweak Brings Twitter, YouTube, App Store Searching To Spotlight [Jailbreak]

Make Spotlight even better with a simple jailbreak tweak.
Make Spotlight even better with a simple jailbreak tweak.

Spotlight is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated features of iOS. I know so many people who don’t use it, yet I find it indispensable when it comes to searching for emails, notes, contacts, and apps I’ve hidden in a folder somewhere. And with SLightEnhancerSearch, a new tweak for jailbroken iOS devices, it’s even better.

SLightEnhancerSearch enhances Spotlight by introducing the ability to search YouTube, Twitter, Amazon, the App Store, and lots more — right from your home screen.

Instagram has started rolling out new web profiles for its 100+ million users today. Like a Facebook account page, you can view all of the photos and info from a specific Instagram user at a dedicated web URL, i.e., instagram.com/username.

Instead of only being able to view an account in its entirety in the native Instagram app, you can now browse and follow other users on the desktop by clicking shared photo links you see on Twitter and Facebook.

SAN FRANCISCO, GIGAOM ROADMAP CONFERENCE — Hurricane Sandy was the largest event ever documented by cell phones, said Kevin Systrom, co-founder and CEO of the photosharing app Instagram.

Speaking at the GigaOM Roadmap conference, Systrom said there were nearly one million photos on Instagram with the #Sandy hastag, making it the largest event documented by ordinary people using their cellphones.

“Sandy was a really interesting event for us,” said Systrom, who grew up on the east coast. “Sandy was the single largest event captured on Instagram — and the largest event captured on cell phones ever.”

Instagram Will Now Magically Translate Instagram Mentions Into Twitter Mentions

By

Instagramicon1

One of the biggest annoyances of using Instagram is when I have a friend who also uses Twitter and I want to mention them in a photo that I’m about to post to Twitter, except their Instagram and Twitter usernames are completely different.

It’s not a huge inconvenience, but it’d just be easier if everything was the same. Instagram says they just solved that problem and now Instagram names will magically be translated to their proper Twitter handle when posted on Twitter.

Create Beautiful Photosets Right On Your iPhone With This App

By

There are a few problems with sharing a batch of photos on the internet. You could make a Facebook album and toss around a link, but Facebook is messy, and ugly, and no one likes it. Or you can upload 12 different photos to Instagram in one hour and piss off all your friends. Or you can make a photoset of great pictures, but most people don’t know how to do that.

Tumblr is ready to change all those problems by introducing their new app called Photoset. It let’s you take a group of pictures, organize them, add captions and dates, and then upload them to the internet as a photoset so you can share them all together with just one link.

The Secret To Not Sucking On Instagram [Video]

It’s pretty much an open secret that I can’t stand Twitter, and about the only thing I really like about Facebook is photo sharing, so I really love Instagram. In many ways, it’s against my better instincts, since I’ve always hated the romanticizing of Polaroid and other low-grade cameras of the 1970s by millennial hipsters… a romanticizing Instagram is pretty much built around.

But Instagram’s a lot more than that, and I think this video by Casey Neistat nicely illustrates why: regardless of what filters you use, Instagram is about sharing your life openly, honestly and without being disingenuous. While Twitter is all bluster and sanctimony, and Facebook is all mindless affirmation, Instagram at its best is about sharing the essence of your life.

There are also some great tips in Casey’s video on how to not be an annoying jackass on Instagram, so that helps too. If you love Instagram, check it out.

These iFeet Slippers Are The Gift For Perfect Every Apple Fanboy [Image]

By

slippers

We know pretty much nothing about these fancy slippers, other than the fact that they’d be the perfect gift for all your Apple Fanboy friends this Christmas. They’re made by Footsie 101 in London, and it looks like they come in more color varieties than the iPod nano. No word on pricing, but we can’t imagine these will be on sale much longer once Apple finds out.

By

Instagram looks good on iPhone 5, but there's something missing.

As we reported on Tuesday, Instagram has updated its iOS app to introduce support for iPhone 5 and iOS 6. It’s a welcome update to those enjoying a new 4-inch display, but it’s not all good news: Instagram also pulled live filters from the iPhone 5. It has since confirmed that live filters will soon be phased out of the iOS app completely, but for now, there is a workaround for those who miss them.

You may have thought it had already happened, but today Facebook has finally purchased Instagram. The proposed $1 billion buyout was announced back in April, but the FTC just recently closed its investigation and gave Facebook the go-ahead to make the purchase.

Due to Facebook’s stock decline, the deal’s value is now estimated to be around $750 million instead of the original $1 billion. Facebook today reaffirms its promise to keep Instagram’s 80 million+ users happy by allowing the app to run independently.

Cult of Mac's Buster Heine is clearly the Instagrammer of his generation.

Let’s be honest: you think you’re an Instagram aficionado. You know the rule of thirds. You know how to use tilt-shift to perfectly accentuate that leaf. Your shots of coffee shops balance lights and darks perfectly. You can capture the magic of a beautiful sunset unlike any other (X-pro II, am I right?).

To get to the next level of your Instagramming career, you need to start getting your photos out there for the world to see. If the popular page won’t give you love, consider slapping a Creative Commons license on your pics.

Instacube Lets You Show Off All Your Hipster Instagram Photos In Real Life [Kickstarter]

By

instacube

Seems like everyone nowadays is trying to build something off of Instagram. We’ve seen cameras and printers that look like the Instagram icon, but nothing we’d ever really want, except maybe this new idea, called the Instacube.

Instacube is basically just a digital photoframe – you know, the kind that were almost popular back in 2006? Except it connects to Instagram and lets you view pictures from any feed on Instagram, or follow certain hashtags. You could even set it up in your living room and connect it to your own Instagram feed to show all your house guests how you’re a totally badass iPhoneographer, or something.

What’s This Half-Naked David Beckham Statue Doing Infront Of The 5th Ave Apple Store?

By

becksapplestore

David Beckham is one of the greatest soccer players of all-time. I think. To be honest I’m not really sure, because I’m American and we don’t really watch “futbol” all that often, but I hear he’s great and I know he’s famous, so he’s gotta be good, right?

Not only is the dude super famous, he’s also super duper hot. Like, David Beckham is so stinking sexually attractive that silver statues of him in his glorious underwear are erected in his honor. And one just so happens to be outside the Apple Store on 5th Ave in NYC for some reason.

Here’s what the statue looks like from the front:

Bug In New Instagram Photo Map Exposes Your Private Photos To Android Users [Updated]

By

Yesterday, Instagram launched version 3.0 of their iOS and Android app. Along with some new UI improvements, the coolest thing about the update is the new Photo Maps feature which allows users to organize photos via geo-location data to provide more interesting narratives for their followers.

The new Photo Maps feature is great, but it comes with some privacy concerns. Private user photos that are added to a Photo Map are viewable to any Android Instagram user thanks to a bug in the 3.0 update.

Which iOS App Do You Use To Snap Photos Before Uploading To Instagram? [Let’s Talk]

By

Photo Aug 16, 10 14 27 AM

Instagram just released a big new update for their popular photo sharing service. It’s simple. It’s got filters. It’s got a big map with geo-tagged pictures. It’s great. But does anyone use the Instagram app to snap pictures the pictures they actually upload, or do they use something else first?

There are a lot of great camera apps on the iPhone, other than the default app, that take pictures – Camera+, Instagram, Picfx, Snapseed, Hipstamatic, Pixlr-o-matic, and way too many more to list.  I use Instagram a lot, but thing is, I don’t think I’ve ever taken a photo from inside the Instagram app and then uploaded it. I always use another app first and then import it into Instagram. Am I the only one? What’s your process for taking picture with your iPhone and getting them onto Instagram? Come tell us what you do with your photos before uploading to Instagram.
