Mailbox, the popular email app for iPhone, has been updated with a big feature: the ability to search for Gmail messages stored in the cloud. Searching was previously limited to locally stored messages only.
We’re still waiting on Apple to send out the invites for its all-but-confirmed iPhone event on September 10th. While Apple is expected to announce the new iPhone(s) that day, nothing substantial has been rumored about in-store availability, until now.
According to an internal T-Mobile employee schedule, it looks like this year’s iPhone launch weekend will be September 20th-22nd. T-Mobile has blacked out these dates so employees can’t take vacations, which is the typical all-hands-on-deck approach that carriers reserve for new iPhone launches. Another report has said that the new iPhones will go on sale in Japan on the 20th as well.
“Like all good rumors, we should take this with the standard “subject to change” warning but my sources suggest this could be iPhone related,” reports TmoNews. Apple is expected to debut the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C next month, but it’s unknown if both devices will go on sale during the same weekend.

Parallels is known for allowing Windows apps to run alongside OS X without the need for a restart. It’s the only emulator of its kind that’s sold in the Apple Store, and now Parallels is venturing into another store of Apple’s, the iOS App Store.

Apple is now free to sell its products to customers who plan to bring them to Iran, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal. The U.S. Treasury Department has loosened its trade sanctions on Iran, but Apple is still not permitted to sell directly within the country or to its government officials.

Apple may release iOS 7 to the public the same day as its accompanying iPhone event on Tuesday, September 10th. A new report from TechCrunch claims that Apple executives are visiting the country this week to meet with retailers. One can only assume that the main topic of discussion will be how to market and sell the iPhone more effectively. Apple is expected to ship a cheaper iPhone 5C this fall, which would be hugely attractive in markets like Russia that don’t operate under carrier subsidies.

Next-gen iPhone parts have been leaking like crazy this summer. There’s a new component or shell leak nearly every day now. Two new iPhone models, the 5C and 5S, are expected to come out this fall, and a new hands-on video compares the devices side by side.
AppAdvice is claiming its video shows “what may be Apple’s iPhone 5S and 5C,” but at this point it’s a pretty safe bet that what is shown is legit. The iPhone 5 is also included for comparison’s sake. We’ve seen the blue iPhone 5C shell before, and the gold champagne 5C has been the most annoying relentless Apple rumor for the past few weeks.
As the public release of iOS 7 looms, momentum behind the world of jailbreaking has stalled. There hasn’t been a big jailbreak release in months and there likely won’t be one for many months to come.
But a mid-year funk hasn’t stopped talented hackers and developers from gathering yet again at JailbreakCon, the world’s only convention dedicated solely to the jailbreaking community.

When last we left the Department of Justice’s e-book antitrust case with Apple, things weren’t looking good. After Apple was found guilty of price fixing, the DoJ dismissed Apple’s rebuttal. Apple is on track to lose the ability to sell e-books in the iBookstore for several years. Third-parties like Amazon are also to be given back the ability to sell their e-books directly to iOS users within their apps. The outcome of this case will likely be a blow to Apple’s business and an even bigger blow to its pride.
Today the DoJ filed a revised remedy proposal for Apple. Besides reducing the amount of time Apple has to stay out of the e-book market from ten years to five, there are no other major changes. The most interesting tidbit is an email between Steve Jobs and Phil Schiller from 2010.
Today Pandora announced that it will be removing its 40-hour-per-month listening cap come September 1st. Now free users will be able to listen for as long as they like and ads will play every 30 minutes.
The decision to remove the cap is an obvious reaction to the impending launch of Apple’s iTunes Radio, a radio streaming service that will be shipped to the public in iOS 7 after September 10th. When Apple’s Developer Center was hacked and went down last month, a Turkish security researcher by the name of Ibrahim Balic took credit for the scare. Balic claimed that he was able to get ahold of Apple ID logins, and Apple spent over a week rebuilding the Dev Center to fix whatever was specifically causing the security compromise. Since Apple never confirmed or denied that Balic was the culprit, his actual involvement in the incident hasn’t been clarified — until now.
Apple has listed some of the security flaws that have been reported to the company recently, and it looks like Balic was likely not responsible for the Dev Center outage after all.

At this point in the rumor cycle, it would be easier to list things we don’t know about the iPhone 5C. Apple’s lower-cost model will likely be announced alongside the 5S on September 10, and it will probably look a lot like the iPhone 5. The main difference is the plastic shell, which will reportedly come in several colors.
We’ve seen leaked parts for just about every 5C color already, and now some closeup images have surfaced of a blue shell.

Apple doesn’t buy other companies very often, so when it does, there’s usually a very strategic reason. When it was reported that Apple had acquired Matcha a couple days ago, the reason seemed obvious.
Matcha was a small startup that specialized in aggregating programming guides from sources like Netflix and Hulu into a nice interface. Apple has been getting more serious about maturing the Apple TV, so the two seemed to fit like a glove.
But according to a recent report, Apple wanted Matcha for something else.
Automatic is a really cool product that has been in private testing for quite some time. A little dongle attaches to your car’s onboard computer and communicates with a beautifully designed iPhone app. The app tells you things like when you’re braking or accelerating too hard, a report of your gas mileage and more.
Today Automatic announced that it is delaying shipment of its Link hardware again. Instead of shipping to non-beta testers by late August or early September, the release has been pushed back a few weeks.
