Twelve South, maker of several fine iOS device and Mac accessories, has released an updated version of the SurfacePad for the modern MacBook. The SurfacePad is one of Twelve South’s earliest products, and it has now been optimized for Apple’s 2013 laptops.

The leather pad is designed to provide an inviting, soft surface for your wrists to rest on while also protecting your MacBook from everyday wear and tear. “SurfacePad is a great MacBook accessory because it makes your MacBook even more comfortable to use,” said Andrew Green, Creative Director of Twelve South. “Adding a warm pad of leather directly underneath your wrists feels wonderful. It’s the kind of thing that once you have it, you can’t live without. We have many customers who won’t upgrade MacBooks without one.”

The Retina MacBook Pro is not supported because Apple advises customers to not use palm rests with that model. Because the hardware on the Retina Pro is so densely packed together, closing the lid without it being completely flush with the base could result in a damaged display.

Twelve South is selling the new SurfacePad in “Jet Black” and “Pop Red” for $10 less than the original at $30. Supported MacBooks include the MacBook Air (11-inch, 13-inch) and MacBook Pro (13-inch, 15-inch).
