Order a Mac Pro in Europe today and it won‘t be delivered for almost a month. This is almost certainly a result of factory shutdowns in China in the midst of a coronavirus outbreak. But Americans can get this new desktop Mac far quicker.
This is how easy it is to add RAM to the 2019 Mac Pro
The whole point of the new Mac Pro is to make it easy to add more stuff inside it. Well, that, and to keep everything cool without sounding like a washing machine on spin cycle. The modular, standard nature of the Mac Pro’s design also means that you don’t have to pay Apple’s prices for RAM and storage upgrades. You can just buy them from somewhere like OWC or Crucial, and pop them in yourself. And I mean “pop.” It’s hard to imagine how adding RAM to the new Mac Pro could be any easier.
In fact, the hardest part might be unplugging all the cables on the back, so you can lift off the lid.
Mac shipments fall in 2019 despite impressive growth for PCs
A big MacBook Pro refresh and a long-awaited Mac Pro overhaul couldn’t prevent Apple computer shipments from suffering another decline in 2019, according to new data.
Both IDC and Gartner say Mac shipments fell during the final quarter of 2019, and for 2019 as a whole. That’s despite decent growth for PCs, which enjoyed the highest single-quarter shipment volume in four years during Q4.
Mystery MacBook spilled in new filing ahead of release
Apple has filed for approval of a new MacBook ahead of the laptop’s official debut. A listing in the Eurasian Economic Commission database reveals a model number of “A2289.” Its description confirms the device is a portable Mac.
Is this the new 13-inch MacBook Pro we’ve been waiting for?
Gaming on a $6,000 Mac Pro is unsurprisingly awful
The new Mac Pro looks like it should be ideal for Mac users who enjoy gaming. But despite its $6,000 price tag, game performance is surprisingly (but unsurprisingly?) awful.
If you don’t plan to upgrade the AMD GPU that ships with the machine, you would be better off playing your games on a Nintendo Switch.
Mac Pro’s new 8TB storage option costs more than a 5K iMac
You can order Apple’s all-new Mac Pro with a whopping 8TB of storage.
Just like every other Mac Pro upgrade, however, it isn’t cheap. Maxing out your SSD space will cost you more than a high-end iMac with Retina 5K display — or even a brand-new 16-inch MacBook Pro.
Early Mac Pro benchmarks won’t blow you away
Early benchmarks for the 2019 Mac Pro have now started surfacing online — and they might be a disappointment for some.
The scores achieved by entry-level and mid-tier machines are similar to those you will get from a 2017 iMac Pro. In fact, iMac Pro and even the budget Mac mini achieve significantly higher scores in some tests.
Mac Pro proves Apple can make repairable products when it wants to
Although Apple often draws criticism for making products that are difficult to repair, that’s not true of the 2019 Mac Pro.
After its tear-down, repair company iFixit gave this workstation high marks for repairability.
Mac Pros bought in Europe are assembled in China, new users find
The 2019 Mac Pro is famously assembled in the United States. Apple CEO Tim Cook took President Trump on a tour of the plant in Texas where these powerful computers are put together.
But the situation is reportedly quite different if you place an order in Europe.

5 best alternatives to Apple’s $400 Mac Pro wheels
If you want to add four wheels to your already-expensive Mac Pro, then they’ll cost you almost $100 apiece. Not that you can even buy them separately. You have to specify the $400 option when you buy. The wheels are a part of the Mac Pro’s steel frame, so there’s no way to add them after purchase.
Or is there? We found five good options to let you wheel your Mac Pro around the office, or to perhaps grab the power cable and take the new computer out for a walk like a dog. Or even to sit on the thing and take it for a spin, go-kart-style, down the nearest hill.

Apple doesn’t want you defiling Pro Display XDR’s special glass with a regular cloth
Whether it’s designing its own pizza box or custom, err, sheets of paper, Apple sure likes having its own proprietary version of things it doesn’t deem quite good enough.
The same is true of the new Pro Display XDR with nano-texture glass for the Mac Pro. No, we’re not talking about the screen itself; but rather Apple’s insistence that you clean it using a special Apple-approved cleaning cloth. But there’s a good reason for it.
Magic Keyboard and Mouse in silver and black require buying $6,000 Mac Pro
A black-and-silver Magic Keyboard, Mouse 2 and Trackpad 2 debuted in Apple’s product lineup today, but only a fortunate few can order them. As it stands now, these accessories are only available for people who also buy a 2019 Mac Pro.
But that’s likely to change soon.
A maxed-out Mac Pro costs an eye-watering $53,000
The 2019 Mac Pro is finally available to order, with prices starting at $5,999. That’s not cheap … until you compare it to the cost of a maxed-out model with all the bells and whistles.
Add every available upgrade and Apple’s newest machine suddenly skyrockets to an eye-watering $52,748.
That’s $12,848 more than a Tesla Cybertruck!
It costs $400 to add wheels to your new Mac Pro
Want an all-new Mac Pro you can ride home from the Apple Store? That will be an extra $400, please. That’s how much it will cost you to add four wheels to your new machine.
Apple’s powerful Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR arrive at last
The wait for the most powerful — and the most expensive — macOS computer ever just ended. Apple began taking orders for the 2019 Mac Pro this morning, after announcing the workstation that boasts a 28-core processor way back in June.
The companion 32-inch Pro Display XDR went up for sale today, too, also at a price that only professionals can afford.

Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR orders start Tuesday
Six months after unveiling its new Mac Pro, Apple has finally revealed exactly when customers can order the new pro-grade Mac and Pro Display XDR: Tomorrow.
Over the weekend, Apple sent out emails to customers who had requested details on the new computer. Noting that “the wait is almost over,” the message revealed an order date of Tuesday, December 10.

Cook gave the interview while visiting Apple’s Mac Pro factory in Austin, Texas, with President Donald Trump.
