It must drive the designers and engineers at Apple crazy. For all the time and resources they put into the design of the iPhone, tons of people end up hulking it out with an ugly piece of plastic.
It’s a catch-22. The iPhone’s flawless design makes you want to keep it safe, but the cases out there ruin what you love about it in the first place.
We’ve got everything from hardware and accessories to freebie downloads in this week’s best Apple deals. Read on for the best iPhone 6 Plus deal we’ve seen, an all-time low on a popular game, and more.
Remember the fat wallets our dad’s carried? Unfortunately, cash was rarely responsible for the back pocket bulge with things like receipts, business cards, a spare key, contacts list and of course an accordion fold-out of family pictures taking up wallet real estate and stretching them into a back-breaking burden.
Today, our iPhones can carry virtually everything, our memories, our money, our contacts and even a virtual key with the right Smarthome app. And what remains could easily fit in a case that serves as both a wallet and iPhone protection.
E-commerce accessories company Edward Field exists to merge wallet and smartphone and its latest line called Cordura strays from the usual Italian leather of their product lines to cater to people active in outdoor leisure.
You know that feeling when you get a new iPhone case and find yourself wondering why it couldn’t be just a little — maybe even a lot — thinner? Sickening, right?
After all, the iPhone was designed to sit in your hand like a slender sliver of shiny wonder. The more it gets sheathed in armor, the less it feels like the sleek, tactile technological marvel that it is.
We enjoy our iPhones for different reasons — the many uses, the stylish design. One thing we all want though is to make sure our prized device is protected, which is why we’ve gathered this diverse collection of cases. From a tough case that doubles battery life, to a case that will adhere to nearly any surface, and a pair of stylish wallet/case combos, there’s something for any iPhone user. Take a look:
It’s not often an iPhone case catches my eye. There has to be a standout feature to get me excited about seeing what it has to offer. Whether that’s amazing craftsmanship or a sneaky charging feature, it can’t be ordinary.
At first glance, the Pitaka Aramid case for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus seems just that; ordinary. But the more I read up about what Aramid was, the more I was interested. Check out my full video review below.
When you think of Edward Snowden the first phrase your mind goes to probably isn’t “quality iPhone case manufacturer.” Nonetheless, the famed NSA whistleblower today announced that he has presented just such a smartphone accessory at an event at MIT’s Media Lab.
Anyone want to venture a guess as to the case’s unique selling point?
SAN FRANCISCO — Teddy Winthrop is into leather. Like, way into it. In the year since he launched Edward Field, his high-end iPhone wallet case company, he’s been obsessing over ways to make his leather cases sleeker, more functional and more straight-up appealing to the humans who use them.
“It’s weird,” he told Cult of Mac while discussing the mission of his company, which launches a new line of products today. “I never thought I’d be passionate about wallets.”
We get a lot of great deals on gadgets and gear here, which is why every week we wrangle the best of the bunch. This week, we’ve got a way to turn your iOS device into a universal remote, an iPhone case that’ll stick to almost any surface, a VR headset powered by your phone, and more. Take a look:
With a great iPhone comes great responsibility — after all, dropping it can cost lots of money and cause a serious headache. That’s why we buy cases to protect our prized devices, but you can add another level of security and flexibility with the Anti-Gravity iPhone 6/6s Case, which turns any surface into a gripping surface. And right now you can get this wall-clinging case for $29.99 at Cult of Mac Deals.

In my line of work, conducting interviews and attending press conferences, a fully charged iPhone is a necessity. I don’t want the constant worry of watching my phone’s battery slowly die down as I search for the nearest power outlet.
To alleviate the fear of an undercharged iPhone, battery packs and cases are must-haves. And, while I appreciate the convenience of an external battery pack, they are often too bulky. A battery case is another option as it will house my phone and battery pack in one handy spot — again resulting in added bulk, especially when my phone is fully charged and I don’t need the battery attached 24/7.
Why hasn’t anyone thought of combining the two? Accessory-maker Moshi has heeded the call with its iGlaze Ion battery case for the iPhone 6 and 6s.
We’ve got items big and small in this week’s roundup of best Apple deals. Whether you want to take advantage of all the latest updates from WWDC 2016, or just want an affordable refurb Mac that will get the job done, read on for savings.

You love your iPhone, you love your iPad, but what if you could make them even more worthy of your (let’s be honest, slightly creepy) affection?
We’ve found four peripherals that’ll enhance, protect and expand the capabilities of your favorite iDevice. From glow-in-the-dark charging cables to slim charging cases and flexible mounts, there’s something here anybody can enjoy. Take a look!
I’m generally of the function-over-form sake when I choose an iPhone case, but this delightfully thin Rosewood iPhone case has me rethinking that.
It’s not just that it’s thin — it’s classy. The deep brown hues and real woodgrain transform my iPhone 6 Plus from an object of tech-envy into more of a naturally lust-worthy product.
If you use your mobile a lot, anything you do to get more out of your device can go a long way. We’ve found four of the best deals on upgrades to the mobile in your life, from portable keyboards to solar powered chargers and multitalented phone cases. Touted as “the ultimate iPhone leather case” by its creators, the Guardian Leather case for iPhone 6 and 6s is a new wallet-style accessory with a campaign that just launched on Indiegogo. It’s designed with various functions in mind, but the focus on music takes the cake: You can control the volume from the outside of the case and even store your earbuds along the side of it.
I spent some time with the Guardian Leather to test the various functions it promises to deliver and the overall quality of the case. If you’re a fan, you have plenty of time to back the Indiegogo project — just under one month left.
Renderings of a supposed Spigen case for the iPhone SE indicate that the upcoming model will take most, if not all, of its design cues from Apple’s older iPhone 5s.
The iPhone SE reportedly has the same general shape as the iPhone 5s, with round volume buttons, a power button at the top and an ovoid or pill-shaped cutout for the flash, all of which sound nothing like an iPhone 6.
As a victim of a poorly-made iPhone wallet case that lost my ID and credit card, I’m always wary when I try a new one. I like carrying my valuables with my iPhone so I don’t need a secondary wallet, but I really like hanging onto my stuff even more.
The Urban Armor Gear Trooper case takes great pains to secure three to four plastic cards (and a bit of cash) in its roomy interior and provides a locking door that acts like a mini safe — nothing’s gonna fall out of this wallet case.
Longtime Cult of Mac readers know I can be a sucker for wood. It’s a material with integrity, and I like the way it juxtaposes with Apple’s preferred design materials of metal and glass. I loved using Monolith’s beautiful wood veneers with my old iPhone 5. And I can’t wait to try Pad & Quill’s new gorgeous wood cases for the latest iPhones.
There’s no great way to record phone conversations. Apps and recording services come with fees and limitations. There’s my clunky way – putting the phone on speaker with my digital recorder nearby – but I will often lose a good quote from some sudden outside noise.
A company in Israel wants to mass produce a simple solution with an iPhone case that has a built-in recorder to pick up both sides of the conversation with the press of a button.
Best List: Leather Wallet Case 80° for iPhone 6s Plus by Mujjo
If there’s one thing about leather iPhone cases, it’s that while they wear nicely and look great when distressed, they tend to get a little floppy. The last leather iPhone case I put on my iPhone 6 Plus went all soft and let my ATM card and driver’s license fall out, forcing me to take a trip to the DMV and the bank to get replacements.
That won’t be the, well, case with this upgraded leather wallet case from Mujjo. Its molded-plastic base snuggles my iPhone 6 Plus, while its stiff, stitched pocket keeps my cards safely ensconced without too much give.
