The only iPhone case that doesn’t give Apple the middle finger

Your iPhone deserves a case like this.

It must drive the designers and engineers at Apple crazy. For all the time and resources they put into the design of the iPhone, tons of people end up hulking it out with an ugly piece of plastic.

It’s a catch-22. The iPhone’s flawless design makes you want to keep it safe, but the cases out there ruin what you love about it in the first place.

For the past week I’ve been living with the best of both worlds, thanks to SkinCase’s barely there iPhone 7 case. Coming in at an impressive 0.01-inch thickness, this plastic wrapper is the closest you can come to enjoying the iPhone’s original design while also protecting it from scratches and dings.

The case wraps all the way around the side buttons, Lightning port and speakers. It doesn’t stick up past the bezel to protect the screen, but a raised circle does protect the camera lens when the phone gets laid flat on the table.

The SkinCase won’t give you Otterbox-level protection, but why punish yourself every day by carrying around a brick on the off chance your phone meets some catastrophic end?

SkinCase: Great protection in a very thin iPhone case

My main concern is that I get the highest resale value for my phone when I decide to upgrade, and this case ensures that value against minor drops and daily wear and tear. And let’s not forget that the iPhone 7 is now water-resistant, so that should ease the ruggedness you require of your case.

The thinness is mostly what attracted me to SkinCase, but its creators packed in a few other perks. It eschews its own branding, providing a single smooth surface. I’ve been stuck with cases that bear giant logos on their backs, and I appreciate the restraint shown here.

Even better, the SkinCase is slightly transparent, so the Apple logo remains visible for certain phone/case color combos. There’s a color to match each of the four iPhone colors but I suppose you could mix and match if you wanted to get crazy.

Perhaps my only gripe about the iPhone’s design is that the body’s texture is so frictionless. Sometimes it seems to leap out of my hand of its own volition. So I appreciate that the texture of the SkinCase offers a pleasant grip that helps the phone stay put. No longer do I tense up when I remove my phone from my pocket, or worry that it may go sliding off the table if bumped.

So come join me in phone case nirvana. If you’re reasonably careful with your iPhone and are disappointed you never get to fully enjoy its expertly crafted lack of bulk, the SkinCase is the case for you. For something you hold in your hand as often as your phone, it makes sense to preserve its sleek design.

If you wanted an ugly phone, you could’ve spent way less money.
