Samsung Builds Fake Apple Store To Shoot Anti-iPhone 5 Ad

You look familiar.

Samsung has begun shooting its next commercial, and like previous ads, this one will poke fun at Apple and its users — namely those who will be purchasing the new iPhone 5 this week. Unfazed by its recent court loss, the Korean company has erected a fake Apple store, complete with Macs and iOS devices, just so that it can mock every consumer using a rival device in a 30-second video.

Photos of the set, which is currently being constructed in Los Angeles, have begun making their way around the web, and they show the store in all its glory, with fake banners, and even fake Geniuses.

Meet your next iPhone.
Meet your next iPhone.

Who needs Tim Cook to announce the next-generation iPhone when you have dummy devices leaking out of Taiwan that show exactly what it’s going to look like. Apple might as well just add it to the store already, right?

These high quality images showcase the iPhone 5’s new form factor, including its super slim display, its new back plate, and of course, its new dock connector.

Created and animated by Sam Becket, this cheery video of all the features the next iPhone 5 will pack when Apple announces it tomorrow.

Unlike some of the videos that have gone around lately, it’s remarkably down-to-earth, emphasizing (as Apple will) the device’s extraordnary thinness, its new antenna, the new 9-pin Dock Connector, LTE, the new nanoSIM, the longer screen and more.

T-Mobile Preps For iPhone 5 By Telling AT&T Customers They Will Save Them $1200

By

tmobile

Buying an unlocked iPhone and using a prepaid plan can save you a lot of money over two years. Over $1000 in savings actually.  T-Mobile is the only major U.S. carrier that hasn’t landed a deal for the iPhone yet, but they’re not letting that stop them from getting new iPhone customers.

This week T-Mobile is pushing their new Unlimited & Unlocked campaign to get future iPhone 5 owners to buy an unlocked iPhone and bring it over to their network where they can save $1200 over two years versus AT&T.

Apple Subtly Hints At Taller iPhone 5 Display In Yerba Buena Event Banner

Remember the giant ‘Retina’ in Apple’s huge event banner for the third-gen iPad? If you thought that was a subtle hint, then get ready, cause it’s even better this time around. We showed you the colorful signage Apple put up at the Yerba Buena Center over the weekend, and it sadly looked like there were no immediate iPhone 5 hints in the banner’s design. Think again.

Believe it or not, the banner currently hanging from Yerba Buena in San Francisco points to the rumored 4-inch display for the iPhone 5.

iPhone 5 Will Work On International LTE Networks In Europe And Asia [Report]

By

iPhone-5-side-by-side

We already know that the iPhone 5 will support faster 4G LTE networking, but details surrounding international availability have remained scarce. While it’s assumed that the iPhone 5 will support LTE speeds on U.S. carriers like AT&T and Verizon, accessing LTE on carriers in other continents is a whole other issue.

According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, the next iPhone will indeed support LTE on certain networks in Europe and Asia:

On Friday Apple started preparing the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, California for the long-awaited iPhone 5 event that will be taking place this Wednesday. Journalists will pile into the venue to watch Tim Cook and company unveil the next iPhone and other surprises. Per tradition, Apple has begun putting up larger banners outside of Yerba Buena the weekend before the event.

We stopped by Yerba Buena to get a look at the signage Apple is putting up. Check out more on-location shots from Yerba Buena in our gallery below.

Apple Prepares Banners Outside Of Yerba Buena Center Ahead Of Next Week’s iPhone 5 Announcement

Following this morning’s enigmatic shots of the inside of the lobby, news shots of what is happening outside the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts ahead of September 12th’s iPhone 5 event have emerged, showing the first stages of what will become the public-facing banners of what will undoubtedly prove to be Apple’s biggest event yet.

The banners are going up right now, but we’ve got our own photographer heading down, hopefully to capture more. In the past, the banners that hang outside of the Yerba Buena Center Of The Arts have tended to make some reference to an unannounced new product or service, so hopefully, we’ll soon have an inkling of what Apple’s set to announce.

Apple almost made this iPhone. Really.

Over the past few years we’ve seen hundreds of fake iPhone mockups, some have been bizarre, while others looked so good we wished they were real. What’s been most surprising is that some of the weirdest looking concepts are actually fairly similar to prototypes Apple was working on in their labs.

Thanks to the evidence in the Apple vs Samsung trial, we got to see the different iPhone prototypes Apple was working on, so we’ve gone back and found 7 artists mockups that look a lot like prototypes Apple was working on.

iPhone 5 To Launch Later This Month As FedEx Prepares For ‘Surge Volume’ Event From Sep. 21

Looks like FedEx is expecting to be pretty busy around this time.
Looks like FedEx is expecting to be pretty busy around this time.

FedEx has issued a memo to employees noting that all training classes will be canceled between September 21 and September 24 due to a “surge volume” event. Although the company does not specify a reason for this, it falls just 9 days after the iPhone 5 unveiling, and suggests this is when Apple’s sixth-generation device will launch in the United States — and possibly around the world.

Apple Drops Audience’s EarSmart Sound Processing Technology For iPhone 5

By

Siri
Has Apple developed its own sound processing technology for the iPhone 5?

Audience, the company behind the EarSmart technology used to power Siri in the iPhone 4S, has issued a statement insisting it is “unlikely” Apple will use its technology in the iPhone 5. It helped Apple develop part of the A5 chip that enables the iPhone to filter out background noise while you’re using Siri, but it seems Apple no longer needs its help.

Apple To Drop iPhone 3GS Next Week, iPhone 4 To Become Entry-Level Model [Rumor]

Do you remember the iPhone 3GS?

Apple will be holding its highly anticipated iPhone 5 event this coming Wednesday, and the new iPhone is expected to go one sale Friday, September 21st. According to a new rumor, Apple will finally drop the iPhone 3GS and make the iPhone 4 its cheaper, entry-level model.

The 3GS was introduced back in 2009, and the phone is still offered 3 years later for free with a two-year carrier contract. With the introduction of iOS 6, the 3GS will be so outdated that it only makes sense for Apple to give it the boot.

Apple’s stock price has continued to rise the last couple of weeks making it the most valuable company in the world, and debatably the most valuable company ever. Some might think that Apple can’t sustain those numbers over the long-term, but right now their prospects are looking great.

The scary thing – if you’re an Apple competitor – is that even though Apple is huge right now, it’s still growing. Fortune released their list of the 100 fastest-growing companies in the world today, and Apple came in at #8 while competitors like Google and Samsung didn’t even make the list.

Sprint Training Documentation Hints iPhone 5 Launch Could Be As Far Away As October 15

By

Isn't that a bit late to start iPhone training?
Isn't that a bit late to start iPhone training?

Apple has all but confirmed it will be announcing the iPhone 5 on September 12, and if recent rumors are correct, it’ll start shipping around a week and a half later. But according to a leaked training manual produced by Sprint, Apple’s next-generation iPhone may not be making its debut until at least October 15, or it’ll be launching with different carriers at different times in the U.S.

That’s if this training document actually means anything. And we don’t think it does.

What’s This Mysterious Chip Inside The iPhone 5 Hiding?

By

iPhone_5_2

Sonny Dickson got his hands on some pictures in which the “mysterious” chip shielding in the front assembly of the iPhone 5 was peeled back.

So what was underneath? The rumored, then discredited, NFC chip? A fingerprint sensor to go along with Apple’s recent, hasty acquisition of Authentec?

Nope, it’s definitely not either of those, but no one still knows for sure. The chances are, though, it’s nothing very exotic, but a required silion to make the new iPhone’s In-Cell touchscreen work.

We’ve already seen dozens of part leaks of the new hardware, and the latest series of hi-res photos to surface reveal an assembled iPhone 5 next to the current iPhone 4S.

Today’s pics show just how much thinner the iPhone 5 will be.

First Video Of A Working iPhone 5 Leaked, Boots Up In iOS 6

This is a heck of a video, in that it shows an iPhone 5 booting up next to an iPhone 4S. Even better, it seems real.

According to MIC Gadget, the iPhone 5 was “accidentally” discovered in Foxconn’s Jincheng factory, which basically means it was smuggled out and is stolen property. Whatever the provenance, though, it seems to be legit: the official first sighting of a working iPhone 5 in the wild.

What else do we know? Not much: the iPhone 5 boots up much more quickly than the iPhone 4S, but otherwise, it’s not capable of being activated at this point, so the iPhone 5 stalls at the activation screen.

First iPhone 5 Cases Show Up In AT&T’s System

By

iPhone-5-case-1

The iPhone 5 is coming, which means iPhone 5 cases are coming, and unlike third-party accessory makers that need access to the specs of Apple’s still-secret rejiggered Dock Connector, case makers have had accurate access to the next iPhone’s dimensions and port layout for months.

No surprise, then, that the first third-party iPhone 5 cases and screen protectors are starting to show up in AT&T’s system. Unless you love Snoopy, though, the iLuv wallet case previewed above is probably the best of them.
