Expect huge queues and a lengthy wait for the iPhone 5.

We know the iPhone 5 is going to be huge for Apple. With its rumored 4-inch display, a new dock connector, LTE connectivity, and more, it will be the most significant iPhone upgrade since the device made its debut back in 2007. It’s going to be so big that one analyst believes Apple will sell a staggering 10 million new iPhones in the week after its launch.

T-Mobile Setting Up In-Store “Bring Your Own iPhone” Demo Stations [Rumor]

By

t-mobile-iphone

At this point, we know that, yet again, T-Mobile hasn’t managed to work itself out a deal when it comes to the iPhone 5 when it launches later this month. That means yet again, T-Mobile will be the odd carrier out: the only one of the major four without an iPhone.

T-Mobile’s at a competitive disadvantage, and they are doing everything they can to address that They’ve started telling their sales staff to start selling against the iPhone. And now they’re going to start marketing to individuals with unlocked iPhones jumping carriers, even going so far as to set up “bring your own iPhone” demonstration stations in store.

A Look Back At Apple’s iPhone And iPod Media Event Invites [Gallery]

By

wwdc2012

Apple is pretty much the most cryptic company on earth, so everything related to Apple is heavily scrutinized, including the media invites it sends out to select members of the press. An Apple invite is like a confirmation from above — months of speculation and wishful thinking is confirmed or shot down in a single moment.

Apple event invites are often read like magical tea leaves; hints are usually contained in the invite itself that foreshadow what to expect.

Today Apple sent out invites for its iPhone event next Wednesday, September 12th, 2012. We thought it would be as good a time as any to take a look back at Apple’s past iPhone and iPod invites from the last several years, starting with the original iPhone.

Apple has sent out a mysterious invite for its media event next Wednesday. Notice the giant "5" reflection.

Apple has officially sent out invites for its rumored September 12th iPhone event. The media event will take place at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco on Wednesday, September 12th. The invite itself features the number “5,” indicating the unveiling of the iPhone 5.

Apple is also expected to release iOS 6 alongside the iPhone 5. The rumored ‘iPad mini’ will likely not be announced until October.

Carriers Start Getting The Next iPhone’s Nano-SIMs Ahead Of Rumored September 21st Launch

By

nano-sim-telekom

There’s no mention of the next iPhone in the note, but German carrier T-Mobile has been sending out these tiny nanoSIMs for “the latest generation of smartphones” launching shortly. And since the next iPhone, which many believe will launch on September 21st, is widely thought to be the first smartphone to boast the new nanoSIM standard, it’s pretty obvious T-Mobile’s trying to put this SIM in place for the iPhone 5.

Bet we’ll start seeing these same SIM cards popping up at AT&T soon enough.

GooPhone Claims To Have Already Patented The Next iPhone’s Design, Will Ban Sales In China

By

goophone-i5-is-the-worlds-first-android-iphone-5-clone

Do you remember the GooPhone i5? It sounded like something you’d buy at a joke shop that would spurt some odious fluid down the inner cochlea of an unsuspecting victim who held it up to his ear, but it was actually a wonderfully brazen knock-off of the upcoming sixth-generation iPhone.

And hilariously, this pre-emptive copycat is already threatening to sue Apple over the iPhone 5, claiming to have patented the design.

If You’re Too Broke To Buy The iPhone 5 You Can Get This Fake One For $5

By

fakeiPhone5

Upgrading to a new iPhone every year is expensive, and it’s silly to do it just so you have the latest and greatest iPhone when your iPhone 4S still works really well.

If you can’t wait, but don’t have the money and want to walk around pretending that Tim Cook personally sent you an iPhone 5 before it came out, then you can spend $5 and buy one of these great looking mockups.

What It Will Be Like To Use The Next iPhone’s 4-Inch Display [Video]

This is fantastic. The guys over at Macrumors have put together a fantastic and very Apple-like video, expounding upon the virtues of the next iPhone’s larger 4-inch display. More apps, bigger homescreen, no more letterboxing in movies and widescreen gaming are the primary qualities promoted here. It’s fine work, and it really has me excited to see how Apple’s going to demonstrate this same capability come September 12th.

These Leaked Shots Put In Perspective Just How Crazy Thin The Next iPhone Will Be

By

Nouvel-iPhone-5-006

At this point, despite Tim Cook’s claim that Apple is “doubling down on secrecy”, we’ve seen pretty much everything there is to see when it comes to the new iPhone. If we Apple fans were peeping toms, the iPhone 5 would be like spying on a girl we have a date with Friday night and, instead of seeing her merely undress, witnessing her actually take off her skin and dance around her bedroom as a skeleton.

There’s not much more to see, but the boys over at Nowhereelse.fr — who have just been on fire this year when it comes to iPhone 5 parts — have posted some more shots of the next iPhone, including some very good comparison shots putting into perspective just how frickin’ thin this phone is compared to what came before. It’s a wafer!

It's looking increasingly likely the iPad mini will get its own launch event in October.

Sources for Bloomberg have corroborated recent iPad mini rumors by confirming that the device will launch this October with a 7.85-inch display supplied by AU Optronics and LG Display. This will be the first time AUO, which supplies displays for Apple’s MacBooks, will supply a display for one of the Cupertino company’s iOS devices.

New Images Show The iPhone 5 Front Panel Won’t Be Much Taller Than The iPhone 4S

By

iphone5

When rumors hit that Apple was going to make the display of the iPhone 5 taller, but not wider, people were kind of upset that their iPhone was going to be a lot longer. However, some new images of the iPhone 5 front panel show that even though the display will be larger, the device itself won’t be that much taller than the iPhone 4S because Apple is reducing the size of the bezel around the display.

Chinese parts distributor SINOCET published these images of the new display, as well as the video at the bottom of this post, that compare the size of the iPhone 5 display with that of an iPhone 4S.

iPhone 5’s Logic Board With Possible A6 Processor Revealed?

Is that an A6 chip I see?
Is that an A6 chip I see?

I’ve lost count of the number of iPhone 5 parts that have leaked out of Apple’s Chinese factories. But one thing that’s been notably absent from those leaks is the device’s new processor. We’ve questioned whether it will use the same A5X chip that features in the new iPad, or whether it will get an all-new A6 processor.

Thanks to the latest leak, that has become a little clearer.

Here’s What The iPhone 5 Looks Like With Some Of Its Parts Assembled

By

casing

As iPhone 5 repair parts have slowly leaked in over the past few weeks, a few people have quietly gathered and assembled them to see what the finished product might look like when Apple announces it on September 12.

iResQ just posted a gallery of all the parts they have so far, and how they look when assembled, so that we can get a good idea of what the iPhone 5 is going to look like. Take a look.

T-Mobile Wants Unlocked iPhones And Offers Big Savings, But Is Its Network Ready?

By

T-mobile-store

For a company that’s wanting to “sell against the iPhone,” T-Mobile still wants whatever business it can get from unlocked iPhone owners. Earlier today we told you about T-Mobile’s new microSIM kits that will easily unlock an iPhone 4/4S to run on its GSM network.

It appears that T-Mobile is also readying flyers that say “Bring Your iPhone to T-Mobile for BIG SAVINGS!” But can T-Mobile’s network really support iPhone users on 3G and eventually 4G speeds?

China Is Already Selling Cheap Android Knock-Offs Of The iPhone 5

By

goophone-y5-clone-nouvel-iphone-5

What is a Goophone? It sounds absolutely filthy, but the Goophone i5 is the first of what will undoubtedly be many flagrant Chinese rip-offs of the upcoming design of the new sixth-generation iPhone, set to be unveiled next month. Expect to see a lot more of these going forward, but credit where credit’s due: these Chinese counterfeiters certainly have their acts together if they can steal the design of a phone that isn’t even out yet.
