If Apple wants ownership of your domain, it's probably going to get it.
If Apple wants ownership of your domain, it's probably going to get it.

Just as we expected, Apple has successfully claimed ownership of the iPhone5.com domain name after filing a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) earlier this month to have the domain transferred from its existing owner.

According to WIPO’s website, the case has now been terminated.

Apple Says Siri Complainers Should Get Over It Or Return Their New iPhones

By

Back in March a man sued Apple for conveying a “misleading and deceptive message” about Siri, the flagship feature of the iPhone 4S. He said that Apple’s marketing made Siri seem more magical then it actually was, and he wanted Apple to pay unspecified damages. A string of similar lawsuits also occurred, with someone claiming they couldn’t replicate the ‘Rock God’ Siri commercial in real life and another complaining about Siri not properly giving directions.

Apple has responded to the plaintiffs with a simple message: Siri is still in beta, and if you don’t like your iPhone you can always return it.

Apple In Talks With China Mobile Chief To Bring iPhone To World’s Biggest Carrier

By

China Mobile, the largest carrier in the world, officially partnered with Apple last year.
The next-generation iPhone could be the first to support China Mobile's 3G network.

China Mobile, the world’s largest carrier with over 655 million subscribers, is in talks with Apple to bring the iPhone to its homegrown 3G (TD-SCDMA) network. The carrier’s chairman, Xi Guohua, confirmed the discussions during a shareholders meeting earlier this week.

It may not look exactly like this, but you can expect Apple's next iPhone to ship with a larger display.
It may not look exactly like this, but you can expect Apple's next iPhone to ship with a larger display.

With so many contrasting rumors in recent weeks, it has been hard to predict whether or not Apple will increase the size of the display for its sixth-generation iPhone. But according to sources for The Wall Street Journal, the Cupertino company is preparing to break away from its existing 3.5-inch panels in favor of a display measuring “at least 4 inches diagonally.”

Huge Shocker: Men Love The Zooey Deschanel iPhone Ad

By

Zooey loves her iPhone.
Zooey loves her iPhone, and men love Zooey.

Try to not fall out of your chair or trip face-first into the pavement, because we have some breaking news for you: men love Zooey Deschanel. We’re not quite sure why, but it probably has something to do with her drop-dead gorgeousness and delightful quirkiness. Her hair is also very nice.

Apple knows that Zooey Deschanel is wonderful too, and you can see Zooey on TV talking to Siri in the newest ad for the iPhone 4S. Her spot with Apple runs alongside a similar iPhone ad starring the one and only Samuel L. Jackson.

According to new research, Apple’s latest ads are being received very well. Specifically, men between the age of 18-34 seem to really be showing interest in the Zooey ad. We wonder why.

Nokia Says Siri Is A Dirty Little Liar

By

sirisosmart

For a very brief moment in time, the Nokia 900 reigned supreme in the eyes of Siri. When asked what the best smartphone ever is, Siri replied back that the Nokia 900 4G was the best. Apple fixed that problem pretty quickly and made sure that Siri now replies that the iPhone 4S is lord of all smartphones. Now Nokia is pissed and says that Apple is conspiring against the truth, and if Siri’s opinions on smartphones can’t be trusted, what can? It’ll be anarchy.

Apple’s Next iPhone Won’t Look Anything Like The iPhone 4S According To This Component

By

iphone_5_headphone_jack_earpiece_cable
This component looks nothing like anything we've ever seen in a previous iPhone.

An “iPhone 5” SIM tray that was leaked by one parts supplier earlier this month suggested Apple’s sixth-generation iPhone may not get that long-awaited redesign after all, launching instead with a look that resembles its last two predecessors, the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S.

However, a new headphone jack & earpiece component that has been leaked by the same supplier contradicts that belief, and indicates that the new iPhone will indeed sport a whole new look.

Analyst: Regional Carriers Help Secure iPhone Growth

Morgan Stanley: New regional carried deals help ensure iPhone growth
Morgan Stanley: New regional carried deals help ensure iPhone growth

Next week, the iPhone will launch on three additional U.S. regional carriers. This move follows last month’s roll out to five regional carriers plus last year’s addition of C Spire and Puerto Rico-based Claro Puerto (Apple’s first deasl with regional carriers).

Apple’s regional expansion prompted Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty to issue a note to investors saying that the new partnerships will help ensure sustained iPhone growth. She also noted that she doesn’t expect to see carriers dropping subsidized pricing for the iPhone – a concern that has also made investors hesitant when it comes to Apple.

Hacker Jailbreaks All iOS Devices On iOS 5.1, Including iPhone 4S And iPad 3 [Jailbreak]

By

Don't expect to see this running on iOS 6 anytime soon.
Pod2g is making progress with his upcoming jailbreak.

With each new day we’re getting closer and closer to a new jailbreak release, but things are still not quite ready. Good news is that infamous Chronic Dev hacker pod2g has successfully jailbroken his third-gen iPad on iOS 5.1. The news follows the previous announcement that he had gotten an untethered jailbreak fully functional on his iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.

Pod2g still has to work on stabilizing his jailbreak and packaging it for public distribution, but his exploits will work on all iOS devices, including the iPhone 4S.

Latest Wacky Rumor Says iPhone 5 In August, Two New iPads By Year’s End

By

The iPad mini is on its way.
You'd better start saving, because Apple has another three iOS devices planned for 2012... apparently.

Before we read any further into these claims, let me just reveal where they came from: DigiTimes. While the site has published a few accurate reports on upcoming Apple products in the past, most of its rumors are worryingly farfetched.

The latest claims sources in Apple’s supply chain have detailed the Cupertino company’s launch plans for 2012, promising three new iOS devices between now and the end of the year. One of those will, as you’d expect, be the sixth-generation iPhone, but before that, we will see a new, 7-inch iPad.

What’s more, that new iPad you just bought will apparently be replaced by an even newer one during the fourth quarter.

New Redsn0w Release Will Allow You To Downgrade Latest iOS Devices For Jailbreaking [Jailbreak]

By

Say hello to untethered jailbreaking again.
This is what downgrading an iPad 2 looks like.

If you’ve updated your iOS devices past iOS 5.0.1, then you would have lost your untethered jailbreak. Hackers are working on a solution for Apple’s latest firmware, but it’s expected to be at least several months before it makes its public debut.

Fortunately, there is hope. The upcoming Redsnow release will allow you to downgrade your A5-powered devices — the iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and the new iPad — so that you can reinstate your untethered jailbreak.

Radio Shack Offering $50 Off All iPhone 4 iPhone 4Ses On Any Carrier [Deals]

By

radio-shack-iphone-42

Seemingly in response to word that three new small regional carriers were going to be offering the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S with a $50 discount, RadioShack has just announced that they’ll be matching the offer.

Starting immediately, if you buy an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S at RadioShack, you’ll get $50 off the normal price on all carriers. That means that the iPhone 4S will be priced at $149/$249/$349 and the iPhone 4 will be available for $49.

If you’re in the market for an iPhone, this is a pretty killer deal. Better act soon, though: the offer ends at the end of June.

Apple Wants To Own iPhone5.com

What will Apple call the next iPhone?
What will Apple call the next iPhone?

Many have been wondering what Apple will call the next-generation iPhone. iPhone 5? iPhone 6? iPhone 4G Epic Touch? Or what about “the new iPhone?” After the third-gen iPad, it looks like Apple may be starting to abandon its traditional naming conventions for iOS devices altogether.

Interestingly, Apple has filed a claim with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to gain control of the iPhone5.com domain name.

Walmart Drops AT&T iPhone 4 And iPhone 4S Prices By $54 And $74 [Updated]

By

Screen Shot 2012-05-03 at 6.29.35 PM

Update: In an official statement today to Cult of Mac, Walmart U.S. confirmed that these new price listings were a mistake that have been corrected at certain stores throughout the country. “Yesterday, we experienced a pricing error in limited stores,” said Walmart. “This has been addressed and the normal prices are in effect (iPhone 4S – $188, iPhone 4 – $88, iPhone 3GS – $0.97).”

We’ve gotten word that Walmart has dropped its prices on the AT&T iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S in its retail stores. Without any notice, the price of the 8GB iPhone 4 on AT&T has dropped from $88 to $34. Also, the white and black 16GB flavor of the iPhone 4S on AT&T is now being offered for $114, down from the original $188 listing.

iOS Hacker Pod2g Gets iOS 5.1 Untethered Jailbreak Running On His iPhone 4 [Jailbreak]

By

Hackers are working diligently to release new jailbreaks for iOS 5.1.
Hackers are working diligently to release new jailbreaks for iOS 5.1.

Good news for hopeful iOS 5.1 jailbreakers, infamous iOS hacker and Chronic Dev Team member ‘pod2g’ just tweeted that he has his iPhone 4 running an untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1. For those who don’t know, the difference between a tethered and untethered jailbreak is huge; the former means you have to re-jailbreak every time the device reboots while the latter means you’re jailbroken until you update to a new version of iOS.

There’s still a lot of work to be done on the untethered iOS 5.1 jailbreak for iPhone 4S owners, but an untether for iPhone 4 and iPad 2 users looks to be on the distant horizon. The iPhone 4S runs on a faster A5 processor, making it a totally different nut to crack for jailbreak hackers.

iPhone 4S Helps Apple Rake In 73% Of Mobile Phone Profits

By

Apple continues to account for most of the mobile phone industry's profits
Apple continues to account for most of the mobile phone industry's profits.

When analysts and companies compare mobile devices, the big number everyone focuses on is how much market share each platform or product has in relation to its competitors. While this makes for a good overall view of the playing field, it doesn’t always give a clear or accurate picture of which companies are doing well on a single metric as a model for success and ignores others, like whether a platform or manufacturer managed to turn a significant profit.

This is, of course, a very big point when discussing Apple’s iOS succes compared to Android as a whole or to individual manufacturers – and something that Asymco’s latest review of the mobile phone market in which Apple accounts for a small 8.8% of handsets but reaps a whopping 73% of the industry’s profits.

Purported iPhone 5 SIM Tray Crushes Our Dreams Of A Liquidmetal iPhone

Is this really an iPhone 5 SIM tray, or did someone hit the wrong key?
Is this really an iPhone 5 SIM tray, or did someone hit the wrong key?

Many of us are dreaming of a liquidmetal casing for the next iPhone which will sport a tapered, teardrop design that will help make the sixth-generation device thinner than its predecessor. However, a SIM tray that is believed to be destined for the new device suggests it could feature a box-like design similar to the iPhone 4S.

Good's data shows a clear iOS preference in business and enterprise environments

Mobile management and security vendor Good released its quarterly device activations report. The report covers January through March and showed that the iPhone 4S was the commonly activated mobile device among Good’s business and enterprise customers followed by the iPad 2. The iPad overall (original, iPad 2, and new iPad) accounted for virtually all tablet activations.

Good’s quarterly report focused on iOS and Android device activations. The data is based on a mix of both business-owned devices and employee personal devices used in the workplace as part of a BYOD strategy.

HTC: The iPhone Has Won, We Can’t Beat Apple In America

HTC admits the iPhone 4S killed its profits in the last quarter.
HTC admits the iPhone 4S killed its profits in the last quarter.

While the vast majority of the world’s tech press was focused on Apple’s record-breaking quarter yesterday, HTC quietly announced its own figures. Unlike Apple, the Taiwanese company reported a huge 70% drop in profits after raking in just $151.5 million during the three-month period. And it says the iPhone 4S is the main reason for its dismal quarter.
