Apple reportedly will roll out a major refresh to its top-of-the-line iPhones in the fall that will see the addition of 5G and a re-design of two models with a slimmer, sleeker design. Sources said the company also plans to release a smaller, less expensive HomePod and an electronic finder technology to monitor the location of anything from keys to a purse.

Apple will “likely” launch a low-cost iPhone 9 as early as next week, according to an analyst report published Friday.

Travel difficulties caused by the coronavirus outbreak may push back the release of the largest iPhone ever until late fall, the analyst said. However, other new iOS devices are still on schedule for September.

Will Apple delay the iPhone 12? These folks say no.
Photo: PhoneArena

Printed circuit board suppliers in the Apple supply chain in Taiwan have dismissed rumors that they’ve been asked to delay volume production of the 5G iPhone, according to a new report from Digitimes.

This comes at a time when there are mixed reports about whether this fall’s iPhone 12 handsets are going to be delayed due to the impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Just can’t wait until Apple unleashes its new iPhones later this year? Our friends at ConceptsiPhone just published their most beautiful iPhone 12 Pro concept video yet and it looks like it almost came directly from Apple’s marketing department.

The detailed concept video shows off the most anticipated features on the 2020 iPhone lineup, including the new iPhone 4-inspired body in two new colors and LiDAR sensor that was just added to the new iPad Pros that came out last week.

Will this be the year Apple finally ditches the notch?

The grand unveiling of Apple’s 2020 iPhone lineup is still nearly half a year away, but you can already get a solid look at what to expect with the newest concept trailer from ConceptsiPhone.

Created in cooperation with reliable iPhone-leaker Ben Geskin, this iPhone concept video avoids fanciful features like a holographic display or embedded Touch ID scanner in favor of a no-frills design that looks more like a mix between the iPhone X and iPhone 4, only without a notch.

A major new feature in this fall’s iPhone 12 is rumored to be a LiDAR scanner. A concept artist created a series of images showing what this change might look like.

This scanner would enable the next high-end iPhone models to create an accurate 3D map of their location, greatly improving augmented reality applications.

Apple has apparently had a change of heart after indefinitely delaying the iPhone SE 2, also referred to as the iPhone 9. According to Front Page Tech analyst Jon Prosser, Apple has put the handset into mass production.

If correct, this reflects just how rapidly the supply chain situation is changing in China. From factories being shut down completely in February, companies like Foxconn are now reportedly back on track.

Apple’s habitual secrecy makes working from home challenging

Many Apple employees working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic reportedly run into problems because of this company’s efforts to keep details on future projects from leaking out. This is forcing some of them to keep coming into the office.

iOS 14 might include built-in augmented reality viewing app

An augmented reality application could reportedly become one of the default apps in iOS14. This would allow any iPhone user to view their location with AR at any time.

This is apparently part of Apple’s embrace of augmented reality this year, with the company reportedly building 3D scanners into the next-generation iPhone and iPad.

What if Apple stole more from Samsung? That’s basically the premise behind the latest iPhone 12 concept video from ConceptsiPhone and it actually doesn’t look that bad.

Armed with a wrap-around display and six camera lenses on the back, this gorgeous iPhone 12 concept borrows a lot of design elements from the iPhone 4 series with a dash of Samsung Galaxy S20 mixed in with some sci-fi features that are definitely not ready for smartphones.

iPhone 12’s big Wi-Fi upgrade could pave the way for Apple Glasses

Is that what 802.11ay Wi-Fi is really all about?
Photo: Martin Hajek

The next-generation Wi-Fi technology rumored to be coming to this year’s iPhone lineup could be used primarily to connect your Apple Glasses, a new report suggests.

The 802.11ay standard promises lightning-fast speeds and stellar connectivity, but it probably won’t replace the Wi-Fi standards you’re already familiar with in most cases.

iPhone 12 might sport super-fast new type of Wi-Fi

The iPhone 12 will include an ultra-quick version of Wi-Fi, if an unconfirmed report is correct. This could enormously increase the data transfer speeds of this handset, even outstripping some versions of Ethernet.

Apple is ‘likely to stick’ to plans for a September iPhone event

Yes, we will get our iPhone event in September. According to a supply chain rumor, that is!

Despite the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, Apple is going to “stick to its plans” for an iPhone event in September, according to a new report.

That is despite the fact that another report today claims that orders for the five-nanometer A14 chips for the iPhone 12 are likely to be 50-60% higher than for last year’s iPhone chips. In other words, the next-gen iPhones face both increased demand and, for now, reduced supply.

This is the most realistic 2020 iPhone concept we’ve seen yet

The grand unveiling of the iPhone 12 (or whatever Apple calls it) is still over half a year away, but you can already get a pretty good idea of what to expect thanks to a new concept video.

Most iPhone concept videos we see throw in a bunch of unrealistic features. Instead of focusing on what could be, the Hacker 34’s new concept video brings to life all the reliable rumors we’ve heard so far. The concept won’t wow you with promises of a holographic display and instead focuses on the iterative changes we’re likely to see in 2020.

This is about as close to the 2020 iPhone commercial you’re going to see right now:

The newest iPhone 12 rumor claims Apple will introduce four brand-new handsets this fall, including a compact “iPhone 12 mini.”

The smallest model could be different to the rumored iPhone SE 2, but not much bigger in size. It is expected to pack Apple’s latest technology — just like its larger siblings — inside the same design.

2021 may be the year iPhone finally loses its Lightning connector

Apple is expected to deliver at least one iPhone model without a Lightning connector next year, according to a new Barclays report.

The device won’t make the switch to USB-C, as previous rumors have predicted. It is instead expected to rely solely on wireless connectivity options for both charging and data transfer.

Barclays analysts also believe that this year’s iPhone refresh will bring an improved TrueDepth camera system that could mean even better Face ID.

Apple still on track to deliver complete 5G iPhone lineup in 2020

Apple’s 5G iPhone lineup is still on track for a fall 2020 release, according to one reliable analyst.

A recent report suggested faster wwWave handsets, which are expected to succeed iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, may not arrive until early 2021. But those claims appear to be inaccurate.
