Cygnett’s Lavish Case For iPhone 5 Does Almost Everything Right. Almost. [Review]

By

Cygnett-Lavish-iPhone-5

The Cygnett Lavish from MobileFun is a genuine leather flip case for iPhone 5 that contains a plastic snap-on shell that houses your device. It boasts a magnetic closure, and a card slot that will comfortable house one or two credit cards without adding too much bulk to your pocket.

The Lavish provides access to all of your ports and buttons, and can be folded back to expose your iPhone’s rear-facing camera. It comes in black or “regatta blue,” and it’s priced at $41 (£30).

It’s not the cheapest iPhone 5 case, then, but is it worth it?

Watch This Old Man Steal An iPhone From A Baby [Video]

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

We’ve seen all kinds of ridiculous and terrible Apple thefts, but this guy tops all of them by literally stealing an iPhone from a baby. It’s hard to make out the details in the video, but inside the carriage is a 20-month old baby, happily watching Barney on an iPhone while her mom is distracted with some shopping. The man walks up to the carriage, glances up, snatches the iPhone out of the baby’s hands and then walk away like nothing happened.

The worst part about it is police say the nasty old man followed the mom and her child into the store and deliberately targeted them knowing it’d be an easy crime to commit. The baby wasn’t harmed, but police are still looking for the suspect.

By

Re-Volt in your pocket?
Re-Volt in your pocket?

Back in early September, we reported that Acclaim’s classic radio-controller car racer, Re-Volt, was coming to iOS, and today it has landed in the App Store. The title is an exact port of the original game released on the PC and Sega Dreamcast back in 1999, only it’s been visually optimized to look great on Retina display devices, and adapted for the touchscreen.

Re-Volt boasts “fast paced, exciting driving, with explosive weapons and unique track designs [that] deliver a larger than life racing experience like no other.

Nokia’s New Lumia Ad Says The iPhone 5 Sucks Because It Isn’t Colorful [Video]

You know, I really like this Nokia ad mocking iPhone users over their lack of color choices.

Featuring a joyless, shifting line moving slowly forward to consume the monochrome iPhone 5, it shows a gray world thrown into anarchy when one customer dares to ask about their color choices. Then, when that customer steps out of line, he sees a number of bright, vibrant, colorful people wandering around, uniquely bopping and having fun. They are all carrying Lumias.

Lockitron Wants To Replace Your House Keys With Your iPhone 5

By

lockitron

There really aren’t that many home automation products that blow my mind, but Lockitron has got me drooling. I want to live in the future. A place where my cellphone is the only thing I need to carry with me. I hate carrying keys, and Lockitron just might help me ditch them completely with its simple keyless entry beauty that’s something out of Star Wars or Minority Report or any other sci-fi movie.

60% Of iPhones Have Installed iOS 6, But Only 39% Of iPod Touches Have Adopted It

By

ios6adoption

iOS 6 is spreading like wildfire across Apple’s iDevices. Within two days of its release a quarter of all iOS devices had adopted Apple’s newest mobile operating system, and its use continues to grow. Chitika Insights has released their new data on iOS 6 adoption rates and they’ve found that 60% of iPhone users have already installed iOS 6, but only 39% of iPod touch users are on the new iOS.

Coke Ad Turns Rolled-Up Magazine Into iPhone Speaker Dock

By

Sick, enraged or just plain glum about the fact that your new iPhone 5 won’t work with your multiple and expensive speaker docks? Then you should probably lose that sense of entitlement.

Or you could move to Brazil (where an iPhone costs the same as a small private plane, more or less) and start buying paper magazines. Because a recent Coca Cola ad turns a copy of Capricho magazine into a passive cylindrical speaker dock.

Conan O’Brien: The iPhone 5’s Best Feature? Capturing Your Penis In Panorama [Video]

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

Conan O’Brien loves to do bits on the latest Apple product, and the latest iPhone 5 feature to become the fodder for laughs is the new Panorama feature, which Chris Parnell & Deon Cole says is the perfect photographic equipment for the well-endowed male. While Deon Cole’s delivery is perfect, it’s Chris Parnell’s matter-of-fact dissection of the joke — “that Deon is implying that his penis is too large to be capture in a normal camera aspect ratio’s field of view” — that pushes this bit over the top for me. Tell me about it. Just don’t shoot it in bright light or it’ll get a purplish hue, although chances are, if you need to shoot your penis in panorama, it’s already got one.

Samsung Moves To Block iPhone 5 Sales

By

post-193870-image-ab03302774e89bdd840b75cc74828772-jpg
Who'd have thought it?

We had a sneaking suspicion Samsung would add the iPhone 5 to its patent infringement complaint against Apple shortly after the device made its debut. And the Korean electronics giant has now done exactly that, asking Judge Paul Grewal for permission to include the device in its latest countersuit against Apple.

The Absolute Worst iPhone 5 Delivery Experience Of All Time [Image]

By

delivery

Imagine powering through your work day, high off the anticipation of a new iPhone 5 waiting for you at home. You keep checking the UPS package tracking to make sure they drop it off and leave it on your back porch because you’re not there to bring it inside.

Pulling up to your house, you can feel your heartbeat pulsing with excitement in your fingertips, so you run to the backyard to retrieve the new love of your life. And there it is. Shredded to pieces by your cute doggy who really, really needed a chew toy. Does AppleCare+ cover dog attacks?

Apple Schedules Financial Results Call For Q4 2012

By

Apple Financials Webcast

Apple announced their fourth quarter financial call for Q4 2012, scheduling it on October 25th, from 2 pm Pacific time (5 pm Eastern). The results should include the successful launch of the iPhone 5, which sold over 5 million units in the first three days it was on sale in the US. In addition, the iPhone 5 was launched in 22 other countries, with 100 more to come in the months ahead.

Purple Lens Flare Problem Occurs Because You’re Holding Your iPhone 5 Wrong, Apple Says

By

purplehalo

Last week a number of people noticed that the lens flare on their iPhone 5 is really purple. When you have an off-screen light source the iPhone 5’s lens turns the light into a purplish hue, rather than the bright white color the light would be when it’s on-screen. All lenses have lens flare, and sometimes it’s purple, but the iPhone 5’s seemed to be more pronounced that others.

Apple support has officially responded to the purple lens flare issue and said that it’s totally normal, you’re just holding your iPhone wrong.

The Spigen GLAS.t Is The Screen Protector Your iPhone 5 Deserves [Review]

By

IMG_0087
The Spigen GLAS.t for the iPhone 5: it's almost like wearing nothing at all!

Screen protectors aren’t sexy or glamorous. They’re like condoms: prophylactics for your smartphone screen that are difficult to put on correctly, feel worse than going bareback, and are just disgusting totems to the shame and filth of your lifestyle when greasily wadded up and hurled into the nearest waste basket.

The only thing I hate more than screen protectors is watching the inevitable patina of nicks and scratches milkily cloud up my iPhone screen. Over the years, I’ve tried a bunch of iPhone screen protectors, from the inevitable Invisible Shield to the PureTek Roll-On. Last year, though, I finally found my favorite screen protector for the iPhone 4S: the Spigen Glas.t, a sheet of 0.4mm tempered glass that not only is easy to apply, but feels just the same as riding your iPhone bareback.

Now the iPhone 5 is here, and Spigen has released a new, longer GLAS.t to match the new iPhone’s longer dimensions. For my money, just like its predecessor, this is the only screen protector you should even bother with.

Apparently Some People Still Want A Hardware Keyboard On Their iPhone 5

By

1349096576.jpg

Remember when people used to say that the iPhone was useless for e-mail as it doesn't have a hardware keyboard? Think back: it was a while ago, around the same time that the iPhone was doomed for not supporting Flash.

Got it? Well, apparently some people somewhere still think that way, and this post is for them (if you know one of them, perhaps you could print out this article and fax it to them or something). Yes, you can now turn your state-of-the-art iPhone 5 into an also-ran BlackBerry.

Satechi Bikemate Slim: A Gimmick-Free iPhone Bike Mount

By

1349095410.jpg

Having spent far too much time and money trying to mount an iPad onto the handlebars of my bike, I know all about fastenings both simple and complex. And I also know when to quit with the DIY and just drop some cash.

The Satechi Bikemate Slim 3 isn't big enough for the iPad, but it will fit iPhones both tall and fat, and its mounting is both simple and easy to use.

iPhone 5 ‘Low Light Boost Mode’ Optional For Third-Party Apps

By

1349098528.jpg

The iPhone 5 takes great pictures in low light. This is thanks to a “boost mode” which amps up the signal from the chip to grab back detail from the shadows. This comes at the expense of extra noise (it’s effectively upping the ISO of certain sections of the image), and presumably getting some extra noise-reduction to even things up.

However, right now you’ll only find it in the native camera app. But not for long.

Verizon iPhone 5 Gets New Update To Fix Frustrating Wi-Fi Bug [Updated]

By

The iPhone continues to do well on Verizon.
Update your Verizon iPhone 5 now to save your data.

Apple has issued its first software update to the iPhone 5 just over a week after the handset was released — but you’ll only see it if you’re on Verizon. No, the update doesn’t make Maps work. Instead, it “resolves an issue in which, under certain circumstances, iPhone 5 may use Verizon cellular data while the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.”

An iPhone Lover’s Three Months Exile With Android

By

brokeniphone

You never meant for this to happen. In your rush to dive into the ocean, you forgot to take your iPhone out of your pocket, and didn’t realize it till you came out of the water. It’s a disaster. You leave your drowned iPhone 4S in a bag of rice for three days, praying to God, Allah, Jehovah, Moses, Shiva, and Oprah Winfrey that some magical power will make it work again. It doesn’t. You blow-dry it. Nada. Every conceivable way to resurrect your iPhone is met with failure and a blank screen.

Because you know the iPhone 5 is coming out in three months you decide not to waste your money and upgrade eligibility. Once you get home you rummage through your desk and find the Galaxy Nexus Samsung sent you three months ago. You sit in your chair staring at it almost hesitant to turn it on. You run your hands along the contours of its plastic grey body, pop in your new SIM card, take a deep breath, and then you dive in. This is it – your new digital home and the beginning of a three month exile into Android.
