The Last Remnant Remastered, an updated version of Square Enix’s 2008 RPG for Xbox 360, has received a surprise release on iOS.

The game depicts a world divided into multiple city-states, inhabited by four different species. The player controls Rush Sykes, a human who is searching for his sister during a war between the different groups, who are battling over magical artifacts. It was developed by many of the team members who worked on the SaGa and Final Fantasy games.

It might be kind of hard to keep up with all of the Final Fantasy news that’s suddenly everywhere. We have a high-definition remake and an iOS port of PlayStation 1 classic role-playing game Final Fantasy VII in the works, the weird and cute-ish World of Final Fantasy, and trailers everywhere.

Oh, and if you’re looking for a hub that will make keeping track of all of this stuff way easier, developer Square Enix is ready to help you out with that too, thanks to the new Final Fantasy Portal app coming out for iOS

Kingdom Hearts: Unchained X puts a Disney-themed adventure in your iPhone

We didn't think it was possible to make this series more adorable, but Square managed.

If you love the Kingdom Hearts series of role-playing games, which is a sprawling adventure set in a series of worlds from classic Disney films — or if you’ve never heard of it but think that what I just said sounds like the best thing ever — we have some good news for you: It’s coming to mobile.

Developer Square Enix debuted the new entry in its incredibly nerdy series during its event at the Electronic Entertainment Expo tradeshow today, and while the series is already super cute, the iOS installment really kicks that up a few pegs.

Check it out in the trailer below.

Fans of the Tomb Raider game series will be able to bring the adventure along with them with an upcoming game from developer Square Enix Montréal.

Lara Croft Go is a turn-based puzzle game with a bright, stylized visual style. Square Enix announced it during its Electronic Entertainment Expo event earlier today, and you can get your first look in the trailer below.

Hitman GO Takes The Bloody Mess Out of Murder For Hire [Review]

The Hitman series has always alternated between vicious and silly, with a stern protagonist who will wear any kind of ridiculous costume, from ice-cream man to Mardi Gras costume, in order to murder his target. Hitman GO, a new turn-based puzzle game from Square Enix, doesn’t give you extensive dress-up options, but it is a refreshingly smart take on the series.

Hitman GO by Square Enix
Category: iOS Games
Works With: iPhone and iPad
Price: $4.99

Hitman GO sanitizes the series’ violence by turning it into a simulated board game, with a satisfying number of missions and challenge. Presented as a collection of boxed sets with very little background audio, it’s a dramatic departure from the console games’ over-the-shoulder view and stealthy gameplay. You don’t creep in Go, but instead slide your Hitman game piece along grooves in the board, toppling other pieces when their backs are turned.

Modern retro gaming, now on sale!
Modern retro gaming, now on sale!

Gaming publisher extraordinaire Square Enix just emailed us here at Cult of Mac to tell us that it has added quite a few more titles, most of them from arcade game publisher, Taito, to the big iOS Holiday Sale.

Most of the games below are 50 to 60 percent off the usual prices, so if you’re in the market (or just the mood) for some great retro iOS games, this is your chance. The sale lasts through January 6, so don’t take too long to head on over to the App Store.

Holy Crap! Square Enix Offers Massive Discounts On A Ton Of iOS Games

J-Pop at its finest.
J-Pop at its finest.

The famous Square Enix tax, defined as the premium price the Japanese video game company has always charged for its ports of classic and new RPG games on the iTunes App Store, seems to be up–for a while, at least.

We’re talking huge discounts, like recently released Deus Ex: The Fall, originally debuting at seven bucks, now only $0.99, and The World Ends With You (perhaps my favorite Square Enix game of all time) at half the regular $20 price.

How about Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II, classics in the role playing game genre, at half off, each going for $3.99 on the App Store? There are eight other Final Fantasy titles on sale, as well. Yeah, I thought you’d like that.

Waste A Dollar On This Piece Of Gaming History

Square Enix announced Tuesday the release of the very first Tomb Raider, the initial game in a long-running franchise that has spawned sequels across console platforms, PC, the Mac, and even a couple of movies.

The release today to the iPhone and iPad is a direct port of the original game, complete with charming old school graphics and gameplay. And buttons. Lots of crappy virtual onscreen buttons.

Even though there are a ton of games out there that have refined this type of gameplay that you can get for a similar price, you’ll surely get to see where this popular genre got its start.

Dragon Quest VIII Coming To iPhone & iPad

When we talk about Japanese games publisher Square-Enix bringing their games to iPhone, we’re usually talking about their popular Final Fantasy series: in the past few years alone, Square-Enix has brought a number of the games in its world famous CRPG series to the App Store.

The next game Square-Enix is bringing to iPhone isn’t a Final Fantasy game, though. Instead, it’s a title in their other popular RPG series (and a personal favorite game of mine): Dragon Quest VIII.
