The iPhone’s augmented reality capabilities are about to ramp up to an all-new level, thanks to camera sensors that can tell how far away objects are.

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told investors in a new research note that Apple is readying cameras with time-of-flight sensors. Adding the new ToF sensors should give the iPhone better computer vision. They could help take better pics, too.

Evidence continues to grow that the iPhone 11 will lack 3D Touch, and will instead include a smarter version of Haptic Touch — a fancy name for long-pressing on the screen.

Previous unconfirmed reports indicated Apple would kill 3D Touch to lower the cost of the 2019 models.

It seems like it’s impossible to make it through the summer without leaks about upcoming iPhones. From iPhone 11 supply chain leaks to iPhone XI case-maker models, 2019 is no different.

With so many holes in the supply chain, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect this year. Thanks to sources online, we’ve got dummy iPhone XI, XI Max, and XIr models to give us a taste of this year’s iPhone lineup. (We still don’t know the exact model names, though.)

Why Apple doesn’t prosecute factory workers who leak iPhone secrets

The person who leaked this purported iPhone 11 schematic almost certainly wasn’t arrested for industrial espionage.

When the casing or another component for an unreleased iPhone leaks before the official unveiling, it’s often because someone at an assembly plant in China snuck it out. Apple always does its best to track down the culprit and the punishment is … generally not much.

And there’s a good reason why.

iPhone 11 might look painfully familiar

The iPhone 11 will apparently have a change or two, but not a redesign.

There’s almost no room for doubt that this fall’s iPhone 11 will sport a trio of camera lenses. The latest leak come from case-maker Olixar, who has a reputation for accuracy about future Apple models.

But that’s the most significant change to expect from the 2019 round of iOS handsets.

Information reportedly leaking from the largest US wireless carrier reveals when Apple’s next handset is going to launch. However, the timing is not a surprise so it’s not clear if Verizon has inside information or if the company is just guessing based on previous iPhone launch dates.

The next iPhone will launch in the latter part of September, according to a Tweet from frequent leaker Evan Blass. A graphic shows the date being approximately Sept. 20.

Update: Apple just took the wraps off the the iPhone 11, as well as the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max. All these models can be pre-ordered starting Friday, September 13 and will debut one week later, on September 20.

For months, reports have indicated that this fall’s iPhone models will have three camera lenses in a single large hump, a design that’s drawn criticism. An artist created a concept design of what the device would look like without the hump.

While Apple seems to be phasing out fingerprint scanners in favor of facial recognition, sources in the Asian iPhone supply chain reportedly claim that Touch ID will actually be back next year, and better than ever.

The 2020 iPhone will also supposedly be the first with 5G as well as a 3D rear-facing sensor.

Crazy beautiful iPhone 11 concept ditches buttons for more screen

The iPhone 11 (or whatever Apple calls it) is still about four months away and there is no shortage of creative concepts hitting the internet lately guessing what Apple will release.

This latest concept might be one of the craziest ones we’ve seen, but god damn is it beautiful. Instead of sandwiching a metal frame in between the front and back glass pieces of the iPhone, this iPhone 11 concept images what it would look like if Apple used a wraparound screen for the entire device. The end result is a luminous band around the entire phone that replaces the volume and power buttons and unlocks new possibilities for shortcuts on the side.

The 2021 models should get a boost as well. And it’s even possible these chips will appear in future Macs.

The iPhone coming this fall will of course be able to receive power wirelessly, but it won’t stop there: it’ll also reportedly transmit it. This would allow an Apple Watch to be charged just by placing its on iOS handset.

This upcoming device will also reportedly get one of the benefits of USB-C while still holding onto the Lightning connector.

Apple will scrub 3D Touch, the feature that powers Quick Actions and other handy shortcuts, from all 2019 iPhones, according to multiple sources.

The tech, which lets the iPhone tell how hard someone is pressing on its display, will apparently fall victim to Apple’s attempts to lower the price tag of future models.
