Cinesquid: It Sucks To Be Supportive

Remember the Cineskates? They were a Kickstarter sensation, a bendy Gorillapod married to three roller skate wheels and useful for anything from smooth dolly shots to crazy bullet-time-like movies. Now Cinetics, the folks behind the Kickstarter project behind the Cineskates have come up with the Cinesquid, a tripod with suction cups for feet.

With the tough-looking Cinesquid, you can clamp your iPhone or even your heavy DSLR to any smooth surface and angle it perfectly. The rather perilous looking examples put the camera under a plane as it takes off, on or under a boat as it speeds across the water (obviously you’ll also need a waterproof housing for this) and — perhaps most dangerous of all — stuck to the side of a New York cab as it cruises Gotham’s nighttime streets.

This time there is no Kickstarter. You just go straight to the Cinetics store to pre order. If you already have the Cineskates, you only need the three sucky feet, which cost $120. Should you want the whole Cinesquid system, it’ll cost you $235. Not cheap, but you do get a tough Gorillapod Focus tripod, and as photo gear prices go, this isn’t too bad.

The Cinesquid is currently on back order until April.
