Jony Ive might have his hands full with, you know, being the top designer for the world’s most-admired company, but he’s taking a bit of time out of his busy schedule to team up with BFF Marc Newson to design the Christmas tree at London’s famous Claridge’s hotel.

The luxurious London landmark previously commissioned festive trees from top designers at Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana — often with surprisingly avant-garde results.

Last year, for instance, Burberry designer Christopher Bailey used 100 umbrellas sheathed in metallic golds and silvers for his creation.

Ive and Newson previously worked together on a variety of projects for Apple and elsewhere. Some of their most notable collaborations have been for Bono’s charity Product (RED), where they’ve teamed up to create an ultra-slick desk, among other one-off products.

Newson has worked on everything from Mac Pro-style beer kegs to an ornate classic shotgun and an expensive (if not totally comfortable) aluminum-and-fiberglass lounger.

Their Christmas tree will make its public debut on November 18. There’s no word yet on what they’ve got planned. The only thing we can say for certain is we’re not expecting it to have too many Samsung gifts under it!
