We recently told you about the hidden panorama mode in the iOS 5 Camera app that could be enabled by editing a .plist file. Since then, a jailbreak tweak called “Firebreak” has been released that automatically enables the feature on any jailbroken iOS 5 device.

Panorama mode in the iOS Camera actually works, and you can get it on your own device right now without jailbreaking.

Hacker Finds Bug In iOS 5 That Could Lead To Untethered Jailbreak

iOS-5-untethered-jailbreak

When Apple seeded its first iOS 5 beta to registered developers back in June, it was discovered the company’s next-generation mobile platform eliminated untethered jailbreaking and meant that hackers must connect their device to their computer every time they wanted to boot it up if they hoped to maintain their jailbreak.

Since then, however, reports surrounding an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 have surfaced. The latest glimmer of hope comes from the Chronic Dev Team member Pod2g, who claims to have discovered a bug in the latest iOS 5 software that could lead to an untethered jailbreak.

The Passcode Lock On Your iPad 2 Is Useless If You Use a Smart Cover

A Colorado man believes Apple's Smart Cover infringes his patent for a portable computer case.
A Colorado man believes Apple's Smart Cover infringes his patent for a portable computer case.

I’ve got a passcode lock on my iPad 2 so that it cannot be accessed by individuals who weren’t given permission to play with it. However, I also use an Apple Smart Cover, and thanks to a security flaw in the iPad’s iOS software, my passcode lock is now useless, because anyone can use my Smart Cover to gain entry to my iPad.

One of the hallmark user features in OS X Lion is the iOS-like Launchpad. From the Launchpad, you can view, open, organize, and manage all of your Mac apps just like the iPhone and iPad.

While some may love Launchpad, many have voiced complaints over the confusing nature of how Launchpad handles Mac apps. In this post, we’ll show you how to completely clean out your Launchpad and start over.

iOS 4.3.3 is Still Vulnerable to Latest Untethered Jailbreak

C0mex-twitter-message-iOS-433-jailbreak

Apple released iOS 4.3.3 on Tuesday to address the infamous location tracking issues with the iPhone. To our surprise, however, the update to does prevent the latest untethered jailbreak solution, leaving 4.3.3 still vulnerable to the hack.

Dev-Team member C0mex posted a message on Twitter yesterday that confirmed the exploit was still successful. While we don’t recommend you try jailbreaking the latest iOS release with Redsn0w or PwnageTool, it’s only a matter of time before both tools are updated.

In its fight against the jailbreak community, Apple usually fixes the vulnerabilities that make the latest jailbreaks possible, forcing hackers to find another exploit. The fact that it hasn’t with the latest iOS release is evidence that Apple rushed to get the 4.3.3 software out and quickly quash the location tracking bugs, putting an end to the whole ‘Locationgate’ saga.

We’ll keep you updated on the iOS 4.3.3 jailbreak as it progresses.

‘Tweetbot’ Gets #NowPlaying Feature Thanks to Jailbreak Hack

By

Tweetbot-nowplaying.png

A new jailbreak tweak that’s just hit Cydia enhances your Tweetbot experience by introducing a ‘now playing’ feature – enabling you to tweet the music you’re currently listening to at the tap of a button.

The simple hack adds a new button to the window in which you compose your tweets – and one tap will insert the artist and the name of the song you’re listening to, in addition to the ‘#nowplaying’ hash tag.

While there are other third-party Twitter clients that support this feature straight from the App Store, there aren’t many to choose from. And if you’ve already fallen in love with Tweetbot, this tweak is a great add-on. It’s free to download – all you have to do is search for ‘Now Playing for Tweetbot‘ within Cydia.

We loved the Tweetbot app from Tapbots in our review, and this extra little bit of functionality makes it even greater for music lovers. It’s also another great example of the way in which applications can be improved with minor jailbreak tweaks.

New ‘Untrackerd’ Jailbreak Hack Stops iOS From Storing Location Data

By

untrackered1.jpg

Reports yesterday revealed that your iPhone and iPad 3G have been secretly logging the date, time, latitude and longitude of every place you have ever been, then storing this information in an unencrypted file on your computer when you sync your device with iTunes.

Untrackerd is a new jaibreak utility that promises to stamp out this invasion of your privacy:

This package installs a daemon (process that can run in the background) to clean consolidated.db file) No new icons are added to your homescreen. There are no options to configure.

Man Hijacks Time Square Billboards With iPhone [Hacks]

By

iphonevidhack

Just like CBS I don’t know if this is real or fake. However, it is interesting and intriguing. The video shows a man who uses his iPhone, a video transmitter, and a repeater to hijack video billboards in Times Square.  In a sense it looks like he’s hacked the video feeds going to these video billboards displayed in Times Square.

He starts off with small video billboards at ground level and eventually works his way up to a giant CNN billboard high above the middle of Times Square.

Real or fake? Tell us what you think by leaving a comment.

FaceTime is now available on most of Apple’s iOS devices, and through its OS X operating system for Mac, however, there is one device that’s still sat out in the cold. The incredibly popular iPad is still patiently awaiting FaceTime compatibility, but now, thanks to a hack, it’s possible to enjoy the feature on Apple’s first-generation tablet.

Courtesy of “Intell,” the hack uses a version of the FaceTime application created for the iPod touch, which has been optimized for the larger device and boasts a full-screen user interface.

Of course, you won’t currently get the full FaceTime experience on your iPad because of its lack of front-facing camera, but it’s certainly a start and a nice little taste of things to come. You will be able to see your FaceTime partner on your iPad, and they will be able to hear you.

You’ll need to be connected to Wi-Fi to enjoy FaceTime on your iPad, just like you currently do for other iOS devices.

If you’d like to try the hack yourself, check out the lengthy step-by-step guide copied, from Intell’s post on the iFans forum, after the break. Be warned, however, this process is noted to be risky.

If you try the hack out for yourself, let us know how it went.

New aTV Flash is a Black Tie Affair

By

FireCore, makers of aTV Flash, a popular commercially available hack for the original Apple TV have announced a Mac OS X only public beta for the next generation Apple TV hack.

The new hack, aTV Flash (black), only works with Apple’s second generation Apple TV running iOS 4.0. That’s unfortunate since most of us have already updated to iOS 4.1, but an update to support that version of iOS is coming soon. This renders the beta completely useless for most of us, myself included, making the release of this public beta a bit awkward and ill-timed.
