50 Essential iOS Apps: Tweetbot for Twitter app Over the years, the Twitter app has changed significantly. What started as a container for Twitter’s mobile website has grown into the jumbled mess that it is today.

During that time, many third-party Twitter clients blossomed, providing a more streamlined, logical experience. While many faded away, a select few managed to stick around. For several years now, Tweetbot has been one of the best Twitter clients on iOS. It offers a clear design, simple gestures, and provides a better Twitter experience.

What is Tweetbot?

Tweetbot is a third-party Twitter client developed by Tapbots. By using Twitter’s current APIs, Tweetbot offers a consistent, chronological and clear view of your timeline and mentions. What makes it great? Some wonderful extra features and the ultimate control Tweetbot gives you over the typical Twitter experience.

Why it’s great

Tweetbot strikes the perfect balance between advanced features and an easy-to-understand interface. Viewing your timeline in Tweetbot shows each tweet, in chronological order, without obtrusive ads or unnecessary sections (like “In case you missed it” or “Your friend liked this tweet”). By staying true to your Twitter timeline, you can see the things you care about, from the people you choose.

Another great feature of this excellent third-party Twitter client is time-based muting of people, keywords, hashtags or clients. This allows you to keep your timeline manageable for reading, without unfollowing people you typically want to see tweets from. By using time-based controls, you can mute an #awardshow or politican for a day (or a week), until the current hype dies down. Muting Twitter “clients” is also great for muting bot-posted tweets from a user without muting their hand-crafted content.

Who Tweetbot is for

If you are a heavy Twitter user, constantly checking your timeline or DMs, Tweetbot is definitely for you. Great for tweet writers and tweet readers, Tweetbot is perfect for anyone wanting more out of their Twitter client, without the bloat of the first-party app.

Bottom line: Tweetbot is the best Twitter app

Tweetbot is a worthy upgrade to the Twitter experience, and is well worth the cost if you love the platform. It looks great, works great and offers an unrivaled Twitter experience.
