The first big beta update for iOS 11 has already arrived just over a week after Apple’s new software went live for the public.

Developers received a fresh batch of updates this morning, including iOS 11.1 beta 1 which adds a host of changes and bug fixes to Apple’s most significant software release of 2017.

Apple also seeded the first betas for watchOS 4.1, tvOS 11.1 and macOS High Sierra 10.13.1. All of the new software updates can be downloaded directly from the Apple developer center portal online. You can also install them via over-the-air updates.

What’s inside iOS 11.1 beta 1

The release notes of for iOS 11.1 beta 1 don’t mention any major UI changes, but there are likely to be some big improvements inside, considering this is the first major update to the platform for iPhones and iPads.

Some features that Apple planned to include in the release of iOS 11 were held back for later updates. This beta could include some of those new features, such as peer-to-peer Apple Pay and iCloud support for iMessage.

iOS 11.1 beta 1 may also be the first update to add the new emoji from the Unicode 10 release. New characters will include mermaids, fairies, dinosaurs and more.

We’ll let you know what new goodies we find in iOS 11.1 and the other betas once we get them all installed on our devices. If you spot something new yourself, please let us know in the comments and we’ll update this page with the info.
