Facebook might be looking to challenge Instagram’s crown as the reigning king of iOS photo sharing apps.
According to information leaked to Techcrunch, Facebook is readying a new app that they describe as a mixture of Instragram, Path’s new side project With and Color.
Internally, the app is known as either “Hovertown” or “WithPeople,” and while it could be baked into the official Facebook iPhone app soon, right now, it’s its own stand-alone product.
If this all pans out, it could be huge. Facebook has 6 billion photos uploaded to it every month, and a photo library of over 100 billion photos total. If they enter the mobile photo sharing space more aggressively, they could open up the Instagram market far wider tech-savvy hipsters.
