Now that the festive period is out of the way and we begin to settle in to the new year, Apple has returned to reviewing App Store submissions and games and apps are starting to trickle in again. Here’s our pick of the best iOS games to enter the App Store over the past week.

Grimm is the first I’ve discovered, and probably the first you’ll play, in which your aim is to navigate a lost baby’s carriage and successfully deliver the child home to its mother. This side-scrolling adventure is set in a dark and stylized world and delivers something a little different that iOS gamers are sure to love.

Block Rogue claims to be the biggest mobile puzzle adventure ever made, and the game in which each solution brings you one step closer to the truth. Problem-solvers will love the hundreds of mind-bending puzzles and dark mysteries that Block Rogue has to offer.

The latest highly addictive iPhone game features a big, colorful elephant named Clumsy Bob, who’s about to set off on an adventure around the world. Bounce Bob across the vibrant cartoon environments as far as you can for your highest score, then challenge your friends to beat it.

Find out more about the games above and check out the rest of this week’s must-haves, including Ascendancy and Flying Hamster, after the break!

Grimm($0.99) iPhone – Games

A mother has lost her baby and it’s up to you to safely navigate the baby’s carriage through over 10 worlds of twisted Victorian delights in order to deliver the lost child to its home. Avoid the phantom of Mr. Grimm, a shadowy figure intent on stopping you at every turn, and doggedly pursuing you to present new challenges along your way. Use the accelerometer in your device to guide the carriage through each level and reunite mother and baby.

Block Rogue – ($1.99) iPhone/($2.99) iPad – Games

Set in a giant labyrinth dungeon, Block Rogue is packed full of hundreds of mind-bending puzzles and a dark mystery waiting to be solved. Every problem you solve will bring you one step closer to discovering the truth, but it won’t be easy – each room is littered with obstacles you’ll need to overcome, from standard push-block puzzles to complex amalgamations of roller-balls, switches, death-rays, and more. Each puzzle room is randomly generated using “ingenious and sinister” algorithms offering an endless replay value. Perfect for lovers of puzzle games!

Clumsy Bob($0.99) iPhone – Games

Clumsy Bob could be one of the next bestselling games for iOS. This highly addictive cloud-hopping game features a loveable, colorful elephant called Bob, and your aim is to bounce him across the clouds and see as far as you can go. It sounds easy, but along the way there are plenty of things to get in your way. Rats and snakes will eat you whole, and you’ll also need to watch out for falling anvils, heavy iron weights, and spiky cacti. It’s not all bad, though – golden coins give you bonus points, rockets send you flying through the skyline, and a polka dot umbrella will let you hover gracefully out of harm’s way. See how far you can bounce Bob and challenge your friends to beat your score.

Ascendency($7.99) Universal – Games

The classic game of space exploration and galactic empire building is back, remade by the director and lead designer of the original release. Pick one of twenty-one alien species to lead to the stars, manage your planets, research new technologies, design ships, and explore the cosmos. Once your people venture to the stars, they will encounter exotic spacefaring life forms with wildly varying personalities. This release of Ascendancy is true to the classic – made with the original game rules, artwork, music, and sound effects.

Flying Hamster($5.99) iPhone – Games

Take control of Newton the flying hamster in this action-packed, frenzied side-scrolling shooter. Fly to save your girl across 6 levels full of a variety of foes, including animals, robots, and aliens. Take on the most ruthless bosses with the help of items you find along your way. Featuring 6 unique environments packed full of fun, 8 freaky weapons scattered throughout each level, more than 35 different enemies, 6 dreadful bosses, and more.
