Recording phone and FaceTime calls with iPhones running iOS 14 could be as easy as flipping a switch, if an unconfirmed report is correct. It’ll supposedly be up to users to do so legally.
That said, the source for this info is a bit questionable.
iOS 14 could make recording iPhone calls a snap
A screenshot supposedly found in a leaked copy of iOS 14 by IT Home says “Turning ON this switch will enable recording of all incoming and outgoing calls on this device.”
This note is followed by a warning that it’s the responsibility of the iPhone owner to use this feature in a legal manner. Laws on this practice vary widely. Many U.S. states and countries require notifying every participant in a call that they are being recorded. Some countries, including Australia and India, ban such recordings completely.
The feature supposedly will cover both “Phone and Facetime calls.” The most obvious reason to question the veracity of this report is that FaceTime is misspelled. That said, the image supposedly comes from a copy of iOS 14 from December 2019 obtained by Chinese hackers. It’s not impossible that there’d be a misspelling in such an early version.
It’s not necessary to wait. There are already third-party application that allow users to record iPhone calls. But if the feature is going to be part of iOS 14, we’ll hear about it in a few weeks. Apple will unveil its new iPhone operating system, and other upcoming software updates, at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 22.
