Clive Owen, star of movies such as Sin City and Children of Men, is the latest big-name actor to sign up for an Apple TV+ series. Owen will act opposite Academy Award winner Julianne Moore in Lisey’s Story, based on a 2006 Stephen King novel.

Excitingly, King is scripting the eight-part series, adapting his own novel. King has previously said that this is his personal favorite novel he has written. Stephen King novel previously told trade publication Variety that:

Lisey’s Story is my favorite of the books and I would love to see that done, especially now that there’s a kind of openness on the streaming services on TV and even the cable networks. There’s more freedom to do stuff now and when you do a movie from a book, there’s this thing that I call the sitting on a suitcase syndrome. That is where you try to pack in all the clothes at once and the suitcase won’t close. So it’s tough to take a book that is fully textured, and do it in two hours and 10 minutes. But as a TV show you have 10 hours.”

Lisey’s Story: Stephen King’s favorite novel?

The story concerns the widow of a famous and successful novelist, who will be played by Owen. Two years after her husband’s death, Lisey (Moore) is cleaning out her husband’s writing room. In the process, she faces realities about her husband that she had repressed and forgotten. She’s then stalked by a psychotic man calling himself Zack McCool, who wants to spook her into donating her husband’s papers to a university.

There’s a lot more to it than that, but it’s one of Stephen King novel’s more autobiographical stories. It’s also one of relatively few times he’s directly adapted his books for screen. The series is being produced by J.J. Abrams and Ben Stephenson of Bad Robot Productions.

Apple TV+ will debut on November 1, priced $4.99. It’s not clear when Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story will be ready to debut. I’d guess it’ll be the second half of next year, however. Check out this run-down of every show Apple is currently working on.
