The serious side of WaterField Designs takes meticulous care constructing bespoke cases and bags, mostly out of the finest leather, popular with users of Apple devices.
The small-batch San Francisco shop also has a wicked sense of humor in its spirit, especially for April Fools Day.
WaterField Designs produced a product page that sends up some of the most recent news to come from Apple, including an announcement that WaterField is starting a monthly original bags streaming service.
The company also has a WaterField Card – leather of course – that will get you 4 percent cash back (if you can actually get a retailer to accept it). The best part of all, it develops a lovely patina from regular use.
Company founder Gary Waterfield also wants you to believe the company rolled out an all-in-one service called WaterField News+ with videos, blogs, and something called “HeyGary News.”
WaterField Designs can afford to let its hair down. It creates some of the highest-quality tech carries in the space and its products are often featured in Cult of Mac gift guides and “best of” stories.
Some of WaterField’s past April 1 gags are also featured on the page, including a Bitcoin Purse from 2018, the unveiling of rose gold brass bits on one of its briefcases and a Zen iPhone case, which looks like one of those locking cases handed to us in places where no cell phones are allowed.
