Looking for something to do this weekend? Been meaning to try Fortnite‘s Playground mode on your Mac or iPad? You should combine those because this training level is getting pulled down in a few days.

The good news is Epic Games already has big plans for the next version.

What it Playground LTM?

One of the challenges of Fortnite‘s Battle Royale is that there’s no time to practice. Playground LTM gives you the freedom to build and fight without worrying about getting killed. There’s plenty of resources and equipment to be found, and a whole hour to practice. You can kill others and be killed (friendly fire is enabled), but you respawn instantly.

People have used the time to create some elaborate layouts, including an amazing Mario Kart clone.

While the removal of Playground LTM isn’t good news, its very name signals that it was never meant to be a permanent part of the game. LTM stands for Limited Time Mode.

Playground version 2

Along with the announcement that Playground mode is going away July 12, Epic Games revealed plans for the replacement.

“For the next version of Playground we’re hoping to include functionality that would allow team selection options within the Playground itself.” it said in a statement.

According to Epic, this team mode will offer:

  • 1v1s and 2v2s
  • Aim assist for controllers
  • Editing other player’s structures
  • Traps affecting teammates/enemies correctly
  • Highlighting teammates on the map
  • Damaging enemies with your pickaxe

And the company added “The Playground LTM represents our first step into what a full creative mode looks like in Fortnite.”

There’s no word on when the next iteration of Playground LTM will be available.

Fortnite can be played on an iPad, iPhone, or Mac.  It’s free to play, though there are tons of in-game add-ons available to buy. So many that the iOS version alone has raked in over $100 million.

It can be downloaded from the Epic Games website, or from the iOS App Store.
