The disgruntled avians are headed your way yet again in a new game, cleverly titled Angry Birds 2, according to a fairly vague website and trailer from Finnish developer Rovio.
Details are scant, but here’s hoping we see more of the compelling gameplay of the first title in the series — and way less of the karting and endless running of recent releases.
Angry Birds became a household name after its iOS release in 2009, with more than 2 billion downloads of games featuring the wingless cartoon birds. The characters have inspired countless mobile and console games with the flinging mechanic that debuted in the first game, showing up in television shows, ads for other products, as sports team mascots, and even inspiring a yogic reflection on the meaning of life.
With this kind of market saturation, Angry Birds 2 will have a bit of a challenge to attain similar success, but it’s pretty clear that a lot of folks will want to download the new title when it arrives July 30.
