Remember that super cool iOS theme we showed you a couple of weeks ago, which made an iPhone’s user interface look like it was right out of the 80s? It was just a dream ten days ago, but it’s now real and it’s available to download from Cydia.
The theme gives your iOS icons and your dock an 80s makeover, with a pixelated look that makes your device feel more like a Newton than an iPhone. It’s incredibly cool and really simple to install. Here’s how to do it.
Of course, you will need a jailbroken device; you can’t access Cydia or apply themes without one. If your iPhone has Cydia, open it up and tap on the ‘Manage’ tab at the bottom of the screen. Now tap the ‘Edit’ button and then ‘Add’. Enter the URL “http://repo.ithemes.it” (obviously without the speech marks) and then tap ‘Add Source.’
Cydia will warn you that this repository has been reported for distributing pirated materials, so we advise you to download the iOS 86 theme and nothing else from it. Once the source has been added to Cydia, simply search “iOS 86” and install the package.
When it is finished installing, you can apply the theme using Winterboard.
iOS 86 doesn’t support every app out there, so not all of your icons will be given a retro makeover. Most of the iPhone’s stock icons are covered, however, with the exception of Game Center. And we’re sure to see support for more apps over time.
