Muku Shuttr is a tiny, keychain-sized (and keychain-mountable) remote shutter release for your iPhone. OR your iPad. Or your giant Android “phablet.” For just $29, you’l never have to see another “selfie arm” disappearing from the side of your self portraits ever again.
The Muku Shutter — to give it its full name — is little more than a Bluetooth keyboard pared down to one switch: volume up. This means it works with any app that uses the iPhone’s volume switches as a shutter release, which includes most popular apps (except Instagram, because apparently the company doesn’t have enough money to pay a developer to add it).
This means that you don’t need a dongle or a special companion app to use it. Just pair it and snap away from inside the usual Bluetooth range or around 30 feet.
I think this is pretty great. I sometimes want to take a group shot with me in it, but then I realize that the iPhone’s camera app doesn’t have a self timer, and that I’ll have to download an app to do it. So of course I don’t bother. Sure, I could do my research and keep a self-timer app on hand, but of course I won’t get around to it.
Then again, maybe I won’t get around to buying the Muku Shuttr, especially as it’s a Kickstarter which won’t ship until October. Until then, maybe I’ll just use the volume button on my earbuds.
