0:04
hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:06
how you can change the speed of
0:08
animations in Mission Control now as
0:10
nice as animations are and Macos tends
0:13
to fill with a lot of them you know from
0:15
everything from a new document to
0:17
minimizing window there's lots of nice
0:19
fun animations but the thing with them
0:22
is sometimes they can actually make
0:23
things seem slower than they really are
0:25
because the animation takes so long in
0:28
some cases so with something like
0:30
Mission Control you can see when I open
0:31
it it's nice and all but the animation
0:34
just takes a while and it can kind of
0:35
make things seem slower than they really
0:38
are so what you can actually do is go
0:40
into terminal and there's this way that
0:41
you can change the speed of Mission
0:44
Control a lot of people get scared Away
0:46
by a terminal cuz they think if you go
0:47
in there and mess things up you're going
0:48
to you know break the whole system and
0:49
wreck everything but you know it's
0:52
pretty easy and I'll show you how to do
0:54
it so if we open up a new finder window
0:56
and you go into your applications folder
0:58
in your hard drive and down into your
1:00
utilities folder inside you'll find
1:02
terminal and now within terminal we're
1:04
going to have to enter a couple
1:05
different strings of text in order to
1:07
change the animations to what we want
1:09
unfortunately there's no way to do this
1:11
with uh some settings and system
1:13
preferences or anything like that Apple
1:15
doesn't enable that so you have to use
1:17
something like terminal so we can
1:19
actually speed the animations up we can
1:20
make them really super fast we can slow
1:22
them down you can disable them all
1:25
together and then if you want you can
1:27
return them to normal so I'm going to
1:28
show you how you can do all these things
1:30
here and actually the string of text
1:32
that you have to put in is pretty much
1:33
the same for all of them by the way
1:35
everything that I type here will be
1:36
right down below the video so you can
1:37
just copy and paste it rather than just
1:40
typing it out like I am here so first to
1:42
speed it up what you're going to do is
1:43
you're going to type in defaults space
1:46
right space. apple. do space then
1:53
Expose and if I can spell it
1:56
right Das animation Das dir
2:01
ation minus
2:03
float and then the the time period so in
2:06
this case to speed up we're going to
2:08
type
2:09
0.15 and once we hit enter you're not
2:12
going to see anything happen in terminal
2:13
you know there's no flashing lights or
2:15
anything that you did it but you're
2:16
going to type in kill all as one word
2:18
and then doc and make sure you have the
2:20
D capital in Doc and then hit enter so
2:23
it's going to kill finder or DAC rather
2:25
and it's going to restart it and now
2:28
since Mission Control expose things like
2:30
that are all controlled through the dock
2:33
it kills it all and it resets it so now
2:35
you can see if I go into Mission Control
2:37
it's faster it's not a lot faster but
2:39
it's subtly faster enough that it makes
2:41
things seem faster and you know
2:43
switching back and forth between screens
2:46
is faster than it previously was now if
2:47
you want to do super fast I can actually
2:49
just copy and paste the same line here
2:51
the only thing that we have to change is
2:52
the duration so I'm going to do 0.1 and
2:56
it's slightly less time so it's going to
2:57
be even faster and then once again I'm
2:59
going to kill the dock and you'll
3:02
probably see your screen flash kind of
3:03
like that and now you're going to see
3:04
that the animations are a lot speedier
3:08
than they used to be and drastically so
3:10
it might not be as easy to tell on the
3:12
screen recording because I do drop a few
3:14
frames but you're going to have to trust
3:15
me that it is quite a bit faster and if
3:17
you try it out yourself you'll see that
3:19
it
3:20
is now if you want to slow these down
3:22
once again it's the same exact thing but
3:24
I'm going to change it to the one the
3:27
number at the end and then kill all
3:29
again
3:31
and now you'll see that the animations
3:33
are a lot slower than they used to be
3:35
actually pretty drastically so and this
3:38
isn't really practical it's more of a
3:39
fun thing if you don't use mission
3:40
control that much and you just like to
3:42
play around with stuff once in a while
3:43
now for people that are all about
3:44
productivity and you know they don't
3:46
want any goofy animation slowing them
3:47
down if you put in the same thing but
3:49
change the last number to zero that
3:51
speeds it up all the way thus just
3:53
stopping the animation Al together so if
3:55
we kill the doc again we'll see that
3:59
when we go back into it there will be no
4:01
animation it just cuts right in and cuts
4:03
back out and this is really useful for
4:06
people like me as I use mission control
4:07
all the time I have tons of desktops
4:09
always open so it's a lot easier for me
4:12
I don't have to wait around for
4:13
animations and it's really nice if
4:14
you're on a slower computer running line
4:16
like maybe one of the older ones from
4:18
maybe 2008 2007 and your graphics card
4:21
isn't you know the best for showing all
4:23
these animations if you just stop them
4:24
all together can make things quite a bit
4:26
faster now if you want to return your
4:28
animations back all the way to where
4:30
they were before you started playing
4:31
around with this what you can do is type
4:33
in a line similar to what we did in the
4:35
beginning but it's a little bit
4:36
different so we're going to do defaults
4:39
and then
4:40
delete and then com.
4:43
apple. doc once again expose Das
4:48
animation Das duration and you're going
4:51
to hit enter and then once again kill
4:54
all
4:56
Doc what this will do is reset
4:58
everything just how it was before you
5:00
started your animations are back and
5:02
exactly how they were no faster no
5:04
slower not disabled now if you're like
5:06
me and you just like to mess around with
5:08
your computer and you know try different
5:09
stuff there's actually this hidden
5:10
little Easter egg within OS 10 that lets
5:13
you just slow down or speed up
5:14
animations you know once without having
5:16
to go into terminal so if you hold down
5:18
shift and then perform any action that
5:19
has an animation it'll be slowed down
5:22
and pretty drastically so and it's just
5:24
kind of fun so for example if I hold
5:25
down shift and then go into Launchpad
5:27
you can see that the icons fade in
5:29
really really really slowly and it takes
5:32
quite a while and it's kind of fun the
5:33
same goes for minimizing an application
5:35
like calendar let's say you can see how
5:37
slowly the animation goes and it's just
5:39
kind of fun a little thing to play
5:41
around with so it's nothing much just
5:43
something cool so there you go that's
5:44
how you can change the speed of Mission
5:45
Control animations in Mac OS 10 Li if
5:48
you have anything that you'd like to see
5:49
me do a video on make sure to send me an
