well, a rumor came out recently saying,

"No, it's been cancelled," which I'm

right? Uh and then almost immediately

that uh that rumor was quashed by a

different report saying, "No, it's not

been cancelled. It's just slightly

different. It's not going to be all

glass supposedly, but it's going to be

mostly glass. Uh glass front, glass

back, both of which curve around the

edges with a very tiny slim metal strip

in the middle. Uh this latest, you know,

confirmation or whatever you want to

call it that we're not going to be comp,

you know, severely disappointed by an

amazing new design is that, uh, you

know, this comes from, of course, Mark

Kerman from Bloomberg. Uh he says Apple

tried a glass only design which is what

we've been hearing about for years. Uh

and which is basically the original the

original dream of the iPhone. Steve Jobs

wanted a just and Johnny IV wanted just

a a solid piece of glass. Uh so they

tried a glass only design. It was too

tricky to build reliably at at the

massive scale required for such a

device. So uh that version got shelved

and they went back to this like almost

all glass design. Uh bottom line,

supposedly next year could be the

biggest design shakeup in years. iPhone

20 Pro, it's going to be almost all

It does. And we have a nice um uh mockup

Well, one thing I wanted to mention was

designing the original iPhone, they had

two competing designs that they were

and uh one was called the sandwich which

was two pieces of glass with a metal rim

a metal back uh or a plastic back and a

of both of these two different designs

and then for many generations I think

they alternated. So the first iPhone had

Uh and like I said, you know, it's like

this is not the first time they've done

the way over the curved edges like the

next story is about a a big revamp in

the Apple Watch lineup. I think this is

really interesting and I love the Apple

Watch. I got an Apple Watch Ultra. Um

but uh this is um uh I I don't know

where the story come from. Uh could it

possibly be our friend Mr. German at

Bloomberg? He did a report anyway. I

think it was him um saying that um that

that Apple, you know, Apple's rethinking

the Apple Watch and that that this is

because of the popularity of um

screenfree trackers like um the um
13:56
Fitbit Air and uh the UA Ring. um these

things are really gaining traction and

and you know that that that Apple's

rethinking the whole lineup and and

they're looking at um all different

kinds of uh fitness trackers. Maybe some

with no screens at all, some with
14:14
different bigger screens, some with

smaller screens and and you know they're

apparently they're even exploring a

round one um which is a bit of a shocker

and they could uh it sounds like they

could they're looking at widening the

lineup at both ends. So, they're looking

at cheaper models and more expensive

ones, more luxurious even than the Ultra

and the Hermes options. Um, uh, but

apparently, you know, don't expect

anything, uh, you know, this this this

year. This is, um, more exploratory.

They're, um, going to be they're looking

at this, you know, this is a longer term

redesign. Um, and they're exploring all

these different things once. Um,

apparently though, the one change that

might be coming up sooner is a ceramic

case. They're going to bring back

ceramic um cases for the watch. Uh that

might happen sooner. And that's good

news. Those ceramic ones were really

screens. And that to me sounds a bit

that sounds like a good idea in theory,

but when you get it in practice, like if

you try out one of those pixel watches

with a round screen, it looks great

because it looks like a watch, like a a

classic idea of a watch. But as soon as

you start using it, it it's kind of

annoying because it's, you know, if

you're looking at a message or

something, you can only really read the

full width of the line in the middle of

the screen and the rest starts getting

clipped away. It it's a a user a user

interface nightmare. You know, if you're

trying to design apps for this circular

screen, it's it's hard enough designing

Apple Watch apps as it is. If you don't

even have the corners for the buttons,

it becomes very very difficult. And so I

I think Apple made the right decision in

going with a a a square form factor. And

I I I buy the the screenless one much

more actually than the RAM one. like the

screenless one that is a trend and

things come around go around you know

that I actually wrote an article for

Cult 10 years ago saying that Apple

should do a screenless Apple Watch um

and they didn't um I guess the trend was

going in the other direction at the time

you know Jay Blanik who became Apple's

uh health and fitness VP had just come

from Nike and they used to do the Nike

Fuel Band and you know and that would

didn't have a screen. It was like a

health tracker, fitness tracker without

a screen. And so those devices were

really popular back then. And they're

definitely seeing a resurgence now. And

I don't see any reason why Apple

wouldn't do that. Uh, you know, I guess

the argument against it would be that it

might undercut sales of Apple Watch, but

Apple doesn't usually think that way

because, you know, they they make

everything compete on its own merits.

And if someone wants a screenless

fitness tracker, I guess they would

rather that it was an Apple one than a

third party one. And I think they're

very likely to compete in that

territory. And you you've got a

beautiful screen on your iPhone. You've

got a great That's actually not great,

but you have a a fitness app on your

iPhone and you can see your activity

rings there. So I I think there is a

strong case for it and I I can't see any

reason why Apple wouldn't do that. So I

I buy that rumor. Don't buy the round

Apple Watch rumor.

the iPod, isn't it? With the iPod

Shuffle where they um you know tried to

uh you know that was that was super

successful, wasn't it? That was a

screenless iPod. And that that

apparently had no um uh effect on on its

popularity. And and the idea, I think,

was like to to um they were more

interested in introducing getting people

to get to use iTunes. you know, the the

the hardware was um uh you know, sort of

a like like selling a printer, you know,

a loss leader to get them to use to to

start buying spending money on songs on

iTunes. Um and of course, and it hit all

the different that they were interested

in hitting all the different price

levels so that that you know that the

cheapest one was 100 bucks or whatever

it was. I can't remember the pricing,

but and then there was one at 150, 200,

250, 300, 350, 400. And um that was you

know that it was a pricing strategy. So

you could definitely see that happening

with the Apple Watch. I mean the the SE

how much is that? That's really kind of

cheap now, isn't it? Um I think if you

the battery would last a lot longer. So,
