0:10
hey everyone so I'm going to show you
0:12
how you can make the most out of airdrop
0:13
in Mac OS 10 line now the first thing I
0:16
want to show you requires terminal and
0:19
unfortunately like a lot of neat things
0:21
in OS 10 it requires terminal to enable
0:24
so first of all if you have an older Mac
0:26
especially some of the iMacs and
0:28
MacBooks from 2008 you know some of the
0:30
older
0:31
ones they will not support airdrop by
0:34
default and you cannot see the airdrop
0:37
menu or anything and it's supposedly a
0:41
limitation of the hardware in those
0:43
computers but there's a way using
0:46
terminal that you can enable airdrop on
0:49
those old computers so you can see right
0:51
here in this window I have my old 2008
0:54
iMac connected with screen sharing and
0:58
if I open up a new finder window you can
1:00
see there is no option for airdrop if I
1:02
go into finder and preferences there is
1:04
no option under sidebar of course
1:06
there's no option for airdrop at all so
1:10
what you can do is if you go into your
1:11
applications folder and from there
1:14
utilities and terminal you can open this
1:18
up and here you're going to have to type
1:21
in a command and the command will be
1:24
below the video so you can copy and
1:26
paste it and that is
1:28
defaults space WR space com. apple.
1:35
Network browser browse all
1:38
interfaces space one and browse all
1:40
interfaces is one word capital letters
1:43
on B A and
1:45
I and then from there you can hit enter
1:48
so then you'll type in kill all as one
1:51
word space finder capital F hit enter
1:55
finder will quit and then relaunch now
1:57
when I initially tried this on my 2008
2:00
iMac my new iMac was not able to see the
2:03
old iMac so what you have to do in this
2:06
case is you have to run the same command
2:09
on the other computer that you'll want
2:10
to use airdrop with so by running the
2:14
command on both of my iMacs when I
2:16
opened up a new finder
2:19
window and click on airdrop you can see
2:23
that both computers can see each other
2:25
with airdrop now and this is something
2:27
previously not available with the old
2:29
iMac
2:30
enabled there's a couple things that you
2:31
can do with airdrop that you might not
2:34
know about if you've used it already
2:36
first one is that it's pretty common but
2:39
you can use multiple items if you didn't
2:41
know that so if I want to drag all four
2:43
of these screenshots to the old iMac I
2:47
can do that so it Stacks them up like
2:49
this and just kind of goes one by one
2:52
and this is easy instead of having to
2:53
put all the items into a zip folder or
2:55
something like that it's you know just
2:57
an easy little thing you can drag
3:00
multiple files now unfortunately I can't
3:02
demonstrate this one but you can
3:04
actually put items in a queue so if I
3:06
had let's say an iMac and a Macbook
3:09
connected what I could do is I could
3:11
drag files to the iMac and while those
3:13
were transferring I could drag files to
3:14
the MacBook too and those would wait in
3:16
the queue and when the iMac was finished
3:18
transferring its files then the MacBook
3:20
would start so you can kind of get
3:23
things ready to go and not have to sit
3:24
there and wait the whole time for files
3:26
to transfer so that's neat as well you
3:28
another neat thing that you might not
3:30
notice if you if you don't have a
3:31
download stack in your dock you can see
3:34
my download stack here when I drag these
3:36
screenshots to my new iMac and I accept
3:40
them over here if you look at my
3:42
download stack you can see a little
3:43
progress bar so if you're transferring
3:46
large files it's kind of neat because
3:47
you can just glance at it quick and see
3:49
what progress your transfer is at and if
3:52
you're sick of airdrop altogether you
3:54
can hold down the command key on your
3:56
Mac and just click and drag airdrop
4:00
out of your favorite SP on the side and
4:03
it's gone just like that you don't have
4:05
to worry about air drop anymore and last
4:07
but not least if you still can't get
4:09
airdrop to work on your old Maxs and you
4:12
still want an easy way to transfer files
4:15
there's an application you can check out
4:17
and it's called drop copy and it does
4:19
pretty much the exact same thing as
4:21
airdrop not quite as elegant but it does
4:24
work fairly well and you can see it
4:26
running in my menu bar here and I'll
4:27
have a link to that application if you
4:29
want to download it so there you go
4:31
there's how you can get the most out of
4:33
aird drop in Mac OS 10
4:35
line if you have any howtos that you'd
4:37
like to see me do please send me an
4:39
email I hope you found this video useful
