What's up guys, Steve here and today I want to talk about that new default wallpaper used
0:04
for the iPhone XS models and all of their marketing. It's undoubtedly beautiful but that's clearly not why Apple chose it
0:11
It can't be a coincidence that the black region of the image is perfectly placed to
0:15
hide the screen cutout. While Apple isn't denying the existence of the notch in the two most expensive of
0:27
the 2018 iPhones, it's certainly trying to de-emphasise it. Last year's iPhone X was the first mainstream handset to have a screen cutout, and was considered
0:38
controversial when the model was first announced. However, the 10th anniversary iPhone turned out to be the most popular smartphone in the world
0:46
In the months after the X's debut, virtually all of Apple's rivals announced models with
0:51
their own screen cutouts. This went on to the point where Google felt compelled to limit how many each Android device
0:58
could have. Despite the general acceptance, Apple clearly feels the need to subtly hide the notch in
1:05
the iPhone XS and XS Max. Hence an image that camouflages the black screen cutout against a black background
1:13
It's still there in the images, Apple isn't doing anything deceptive, it's just hard to see
1:18
And the iPhone XS notch can be seen in a smattering of official images, just not the most prominent
1:24
The same is not true of the cheaper iPhone XR though, it's wallpaper makes no attempt
1:29
to hide the notch. A conspiracy theorist might suggest that this is intended to subtly steer people towards
1:35
the more expensive devices, as they don't appear to have a notch
1:39
Incidentally, the images chosen for the iPhone XR wallpapers look like planets, but are really
1:44
close up pictures of soap bubbles. But let me know in the comments section down below what you think Apple is trying to do here
1:52
Is it a coincidence? Is it a plan to hide the notch? Or is it just a coincidence? I mean the wallpapers do look really nice
1:57
Personally for me, the notch doesn't bother me, I've made a whole video on it. But let me know as well what you think of the notch in general

Does it bother you? Does it not? If you've enjoyed this video though, please hit that like button, subscribe if you haven't
