2:39
on I told you I can't do two things at once man cannot copy and paste and talk he's
2:46
GNA start mumbling big time here really soon he'll think he's making sense but we're gonna be like uh I need to
2:53
reboot all right let's go ahead and
3:00
get this thing rolling because we have a lot of stuff to talk about here and I feel like my windows are all completely
3:05
screwy let me Mo go ahead and move those around and uh oh my goodness how are we even going to get through all this stuff
3:12
well we'll start off by que up Mrs D oh Mrs D Mrs D oh yes my dear oh Mrs D do you
3:21
have any plans for the weekend oh you know that I do I'll be listening to my
3:26
favorite album from John Mayer with El key really John Mayor what a throwback
3:32
oh yes s Listen to Your Body Is a Wonderland completely new
3:39
leis isn't that your favorite song leis I heard that it was no no it is not
3:46
does your band do an accordion version of that song you could get that to Mrs D they could no we do not
3:52
okay just something to think about this but hey you know with AI you know all you got to do is ask that's true the
3:58
musicians are dead man there's no point to even have them anymore all you need all you need are the notes now and AI
4:03
can do the rest so so Bas player the job title will be changed to equipment mover which is basically a big part of the job
4:10
anyway that's like 80% of the job right now isn't it if you could happen to play bass that's a that's a
4:17
plus all right well Mrs D now that you've nauseated all of us let's go ahead and get this thing rolling because
4:23
we have a whole lot of show here to do and not a lot of time to do it so I'll get this music queued up and we'll
4:29
get going going in three two hello and welcome to the coasty best
4:36
30 plus minute app conversation you're going to hear all week long I'm your host a

4:47
the Dance video and pretends he's one of the performers wow who knew he also happens to be managing editor of cter
4:53
back Lis walls is here now that would May me chuckle CU that is never going to
4:58
happen maybe not on video also with us he'll be spending most of his weekend
5:05
laying trip wires and other booby traps to capture any unexpected visits from
5:10
any San Francisco Tech editors who are upset about grammar errors he's a writer
5:15
for culat Griffin Jones is here I will be spending my weekend
5:21
having my dishwasher fixed which was the which is the Highlight really of oh no
5:26
dishwasher problems are the worst man you don't realiz how important that machine is until it goes down things
5:33
spiral out of control real fast in the kitchen and dishwasher goes down man yeah and then you got to do them all by
5:38
hand which makes my back hurt I hate it man I hate doing dis it's actually not
5:44
that bad because I have a Vision Pro so while I'm doing dishes I can watch a giant YouTube video my sink but you also
5:51
have a 13 pound computer sitting on your head pushing your neck down that's going to be a problem for me I mean doesn't
5:58
the dishwashing suffer is the quality of the cleaning that is true because it does
6:05
the display isn't like perfect Fidelity so sometimes I do miss a few things yeah see I was compromise I'm not willing to
6:12
accept the other night I was making like a nice late night snack of some uh oven roasted carrots while I also had the
6:18
Vision Pro on and as I was peeling the carrots I realized wait I can't I can't really peel these very well because I
6:24
can't see where I've already peeled or not because again like you know kind kind of dark
6:30
especially with like the the fuzziness I I couldn't I couldn't tell which which part was already peeled or not you have a trip to the emergency room in your
6:36
future yeah hey you need to move to California if your late night snack is roasted carrots okay that is not an Ohio
6:42
late night snack B you need to like I I'm a little scared somebody's gonna you
6:48
know find you in a puddle of blood you keep peeling things with a Vision Pro on your head yeah who eats oven roasted
6:56
oven roasted carrots for a late night snack I don't want those for
7:02
dinner it's it's a simple 45 minute preparation yeah it's only 45 minutes
7:08
after you've hand peeled them all and skinn them and everything
7:14
delicately you know I don't know what Apple watch you have but I can tell you that they do not monitor for blood loss
7:20
although they you know if you have a most recent one or whatever uh it will
7:25
uh trigger that fall warning when your your body falls over oh my God yeah it
7:31
can't even monitor for you hyperventilating when you realize you've lost all finger function because the O2
7:38
measuring is gone so oh my God you won't even know that it happened okay look H
7:45
yeah what x oh you want the Tweet action
7:50
thank you Louis I got it hand signal I got it lined up right here boom how
7:57
about that off M boom okay here we go what's the
8:02
deal with the Tweet there you go it's been tweeted Louis now they're going to
8:08
pour in I was wondering why we only had three people here it's the Tweet action that was it it could also be the content
8:15
but I think maybe probably to a lesser degree uh okay let's see here you all
8:21
want to know what we're talking about this week I'm sure you probably are curious so I will titilate you here for
8:28
a moment we're going to talk about oh the cheaper Apple vision air incoming I hear
8:37
they've canceled the Vision Pro too it's just done gone they're working on the cheaper version because no one wants to
8:42
spend $3,500 on the Vision Pro and we're also going to talk about what's coming next for Apple
8:49
watch I think we got some bad news about upcoming Apple products it seems like
8:56
apple might be back to go thin and that might include Max I really hope
9:01
this isn't true and if it is true I hope it's not as bad as it used to be because I think this is the complete wrong
9:08
direction for them to head and it seems like they're back on this thin kick and
9:13
if they are I'm really going to be so sad and disappointed um we also have a
9:18
idea of when we will be able to expect the next M4 MacBook Pros which is going to be a whole lot sooner than you
9:25
probably were expecting we're going to talk about iOS 18 Griffin's gone handson
9:31
he's got uh about 45 items in this list here so I'm going to put on some of those glasses that make me look like I'm
9:37
still awake and then just kick back and let Griffin do his thing uh Lewis is gonna tell us about some of the Hidden
9:44
iOS 18 features that you may not have heard about that until he reads the article he may not have heard
9:50
about we'll see and uh and then also we've got an update on one of the
9:57
greatest beats of all time one that we have followed better than any other media
10:03
Outlet yes it has to do with movie pass the Saga The NeverEnding saga continues and something that we have
10:11
been asking for for years covering this story has finally manifested and I give
10:16
myself not complete credit but 85% I'm actually surprised that they didn't
10:22
consult me for this project and I I don't mean that like sarcastically we covered this beat to such a degree that
10:28
I actually am surprised that they did not at least reach out to me and say would you like to be featured in this
10:36
project that we're working on just for your commentary because we covered this thing at nauseum we we were so far ahead
10:43
of the curve on this story it's just it's one of the proudest achievements in my life and I have four kids all right
10:52
before we dive in let me go ahead and pull up my notes
10:57
Here leis your face is in the way I got to move it let's see where where should I move you loose I'll move you over there that is a
11:03

11:30
but it is a little bit distracting um just it's just hair uh no I've got
11:37
I've got mostly forehead hair and part of his eyeball on the right side I mean
11:44
it's a good chunk yeah that's better that's better thank you Griffin it looks like Crescent Griffin that we have going

13:48
purchase of website or domain you might think that I'm confused about what's happening next I'm not
13:54
loose I'm sending it to Griffin to talk about the cheaper Apple Vision AR headset
13:59
that is coming down the pipe hopefully it's a lot less expensive which would make me more interested in it but
14:06
Griffin I don't want to steal your thunder take it away a cheaper version of Apple's Vision
14:12
augmented reality headset has reportedly been fast-tracked the goal is supposedly to have the scaled back device on the
14:17
market by next year to accomplish this Apple has allegedly halted work on the
14:22
Next Generation high-end Vision Pro Model uh while the bleeding edge technology of the Vision Pro draws
14:28
praise the $3,500 price remains a drawback you don't say that's a nice way of putting
14:34
it a drawback in response apple is allegedly changing its focus away from the topend
14:40
models uh quote the company is still working on releasing a more affordable Vision product with fewer features
14:46
before the end of 2025 said the information in addition to lowering the price Apple is also reportedly planning
14:53
to cut the weight by at least a third that would be a very dramatic difference that that would be would make a huge
15:00
difference and that would be something that would make me a lot more interested in it cuz even though it's not like
15:07
wearing a helmet made of lead on your head it's like aluminum it's definitely
15:13
heavy yeah I I think it's like equivalent to like wearing a um wearing like a motorcycle
15:19
helmet yeah except it just hangs off the front of your face yeah yeah which is
15:24
part of the problem uh leaks indicate it is always Apple's intention to introduce high-end and lowend vision products the
15:32
lower the lower-end device is simply coming sooner than expected what the cost for the more affordable version will be as unknown at this time
15:38
hopefully significantly below $3,500 I think I heard from another source that they were targeting
15:45
$1,500 I mean if they can reduce the weight by a third and reduce the price
15:50
by $2,000 I mean that would be sure I I would take that that would be a pretty awesome product and I I'm sure it would
15:57
like open up the the sales to like an order of magnitude greater I don't know how I have my doubts that they would be
16:04
able to do that by the end of next year because that's a very dramatic difference in cost there's so many
16:11
features they can cut out of that thing though at the ghost eyes rid of the ghost eyes you could even get rid of I I
16:18
think maybe like the automatic moving of like the eye pieces and just have that be like a fixed thing I mean they could
16:24
they'll probably degrade the quality of the screen sadly I mean that's the one thing I don't think Apple wants to degrade the quality of the screen like
16:30
the reason the Vision Pro is so expensive is because Apple considers this to be like the minimum
16:35
viable Vision experience yeah and you know I don't really
16:40
see how they could how they could introduce like a lower cost product like that especially while the regular Vision
16:47
Pro is still for sale for you know $2,000 more like I have a hard time
16:54
imagining what this product lineup will look like with the then 2 and a half year-old Vision Pro
16:59
or what one and a halfy old Vision Pro on sale simultaneously with this product as well I I would I would not be
17:05
shocked I would not be shocked if when they released a cheaper version of the product they actually cut the price of
17:12
the Vision Pro a little bit so it's a little bit closer like maybe 500 bucks or something but I don't know when you
17:19
say MVP I I I I think that's an interesting observation they think that
17:25
this is the most the most minimally viable product that they can release at still high quality
17:32
but if it's an option between the product existing and not existing I think there are features that could be
17:37
cut right like there are things that they could do to degrade the experience but make it cheaper and more ubiquitous
17:43
because I mean the concept itself is great like once you wear this thing and you like have that floating window with
17:48
you wherever you go that that is such a uh a an
17:54
unbelievably convenient way to like watch videos and to view content as you're just out in the world um I could
18:02
see this being popular but yeah not for $3,500 plus tax have they done any uh like surveys
18:10
have you received any surveys from Apple saying like do you use this around other people I haven't I've received no
18:16
surveys of the sort I wonder if they know how I I I you would think they would I because the I can't remember
18:24
what the name of that feature is the ghost ice feature I I mean iight eyesight right so that's completely
18:31
useless if you're using in a room by yourself right I mean completely useless just well it it doesn't it doesn't the
18:37
display the out the external display is off if it doesn't detect anybody else in the room but but my my point is just
18:45
it's if if 95% of the time that people use this is in a room by themselves
18:50
because it's too creepy to wear around another human being uh that's the
18:56
features is not necessary right yeah yeah that's true like the feature was designed with the understanding that
19:03
if there are a lot of these and if you know people are wearing them then they'll want to have like a you know quasi normal human conversation
19:10
experience but the thing is like it's year one and their and their first product in this lineup is $3,500 that's
19:16
not really going to be the case like the the other uh supposedly like really
19:23
gamechanging breakthrough new experience is having the uh spatial person a
19:29
FaceTime call like from everything I've heard from people who've tried it out it's really great like having you know
19:35
two people wearing Vision Pros who do like the the the special Persona FaceTime call I mean they they feel like
19:41
they're hanging out as if they were in the same room and they could be across the planet but the problem is that that
19:46
feature depends on multiple people having Vision pros and I don't know anybody else who has one Leander or did
19:53
he turn his back in I can't I wonder how often he even uses it and the other thing too is like the ghost eyes
19:59
even for the feature even for the use case that they think that it solves for it doesn't solve that it doesn't solve
20:05
that problem because the ghost eyes are so creepy they're so faint that people
20:10
cannot take you seriously when your eyeballs suddenly fade into existence in these goggles there's just it's just not
20:17
there's just it's just not practical and it's it's so it's so ridiculous and
20:22
comedic that no one can take you seriously when you're wearing these things maybe maybe in some bright white
20:29
boardroom in Cupertino this seems normal but anyone in the real world is not
20:35
going to take you seriously when your ghost eyes are sitting there staring at them and plus you can hardly see them anyway so I think they just need to cut
20:41
it cut it all together and just make it so that when you're wearing the goggles make maybe make a color that shows like
20:47
you're engaging and like you're preoccupied and around the rim right
20:53
like like just around the it's either red or green kind of like the homepod display how it has like
20:59
that that little blurry you know it's technically a display but it's just like a few LEDs under like a little piece of diffused glass
21:06
yeah and and you know they ship it with a couple of you know Google ey stickers you know you get a couple of different
21:12
choices you can either put on you know squinty ones or happy ones you know I think they should allow you to have like
21:18
one giant Cyclops eye right in the middle so like be an option it's just one big
21:24
eyeball customize it there could be a there could be an eyeball store where you can you know buy different third
21:31
party eyeballs so that people can see it I just I just it's not g to be stickers it's going to be magnetic right and then
21:37
they can sell different stickers or different uh magnetic eyeballs you get a wide choice of eyeballs yeah oh man we
21:43
just solved we we just solved the whole problem man now it's we less cost less and they make more
21:49
money or you know like they just you just slide the goggles up when people are talking to you like you do with
21:56
glasses or you know anything else that you wear on your face you know ski goggles or something like I think they
22:04
over architected this solution and it as as cool as they thought it sounded it
22:09
probably adds a tremendous expense and it's just not needed and it doesn't actually solve any real life problems I
22:15
don't think but I mean we had heard that they have basically a back burner Vision
22:21
Pro 2 in an effort to develop this cheaper version right like that was the story that that came out this week like
22:28
I heard they cancel Vision Pro 2 I don't think that's true but they are not actively working on it because they want
22:34
to get the cheaper version of Vision Pro 2 I think they got to do something man they're they're losing momentum big time I mean it was huge it was a cultural
22:41
moment and then it predictably did what we thought it was going to do it just
22:47
disappeared and even people that still have the Vision Pro never talk about them they they they seem like they're
22:53
still they're trying to figure out reasons to use their Vision Pro and
22:59
there haven't really been a ton of use cases to actually put the thing on and wear it hoping to God something useful comes
23:06
along some great app please I want to use my $3,500 headset plus stack yeah I
23:13
mean how often do you use yours Griffin oh I use it I would say five days out of
23:18
the week okay so you still use it a lot oh yeah yeah I I think part of the problem is that like uh you know it's a
23:25
chick I mean it's a chicken and egg problem where like they they need to sell enough headsets to people buying so developers make apps for them like it's
23:31
kind of app's responsibility to get the ball rolling themselves and we just haven't seen that kind of commitment
23:36
from Apple like they released Vision OS 2 and it doesn't come with any new native Vision OS apps like calendar
23:42
reminders podcasts are still iPad apps in compatibility mode there have been like what three episodes of their
23:50
spatial TV series and like yeah oh yeah it's been three months later and we
23:55
finally get episode two like okay great they're not moving very fast fast on it apple apple cares more about division
24:02
Pro than any other company on the planet and they're not showing that they really care about it at all yeah it's moving
24:07
surprisingly slow all right let's talk about some other Apple Hardware here and
24:13
I think this might be more relevant to our audience who don't want to spend $3,500 on the Vision Pro actually that's
24:20
probably not true I bet you most of our audience bought it I just wonder how many of them uh uh kept it I would be
24:26
curious to get that survey okay let's talk about products coming down the pipe
24:32
and let's talk about Apple oh please please let's not be moving back in this
24:37
direction to the Church of thin and light I thought that we had moved on but
24:42
it seems like perhaps not um we'll talk about Apple Watch series 10 first could
24:48
get larger but thinner the Apple Watch series 10 might adopt a thinner design with a bigger display the last few
24:55
models focused on internal improvements the last few the last all models uh a brighter screen and little else but Ming
25:03
quo thinks this will change with the Apple Watch series 10 reportedly Apple will bump the chassis size from 41 and
25:11
45 millim to 45 and 49 mm the watch will also get thinner overall which
25:17
cooperates uh recent claims from uh Mark German from Bloomberg a larger chassis
25:24
would give Apple more space to fit a larger display and a bigger battery disappointedly the company apparently
25:30
does not plan significant upgrades to Apple watch Ultra this year uh although it might get a new black option space
25:37
black maybe and that's about it a final decision on even that will allow Apple I
25:44
can't even read this s what uh a final decision on even that will follow
25:49
Apple's analysis of production he's talking about the the black color option like if they can't
25:55
crank out enough of these yeah that's not a good sense okay uh do you have
26:01
your horse crop handy make sure that you go and address this writer after the show this um let's see here right okay
26:09
so this this was the other part so so German came out with his P his poweron newsletter and he he expounded upon this
26:18
and he he was like this is not just an Apple Watch thing this is Apple's new
26:23
Focus for all their products uh upcoming and I'm quoting from the article now I'm
26:29
told that apple is now focused on developing a significantly skinnier phone in time for the iPhone 17 in 2025
26:37
it's also working to make the MacBook Pro and Apple watch thinner the plan is for the latest iPad Pro to be the
26:42
beginning of a new class of Apple devices that should be the thinnest and lightest products in their categories
26:48
across the whole tech industry oh no please let's hope this is not a
26:55
return to Apple removing all the ports on the MacBook Pro in order to make it
27:02
thin and light please that is not what anybody wants I'm hoping what this means
27:08
at least on the Mac is changing the display to OLED so that they can make it
27:14
thinner but but keep the same amount of battery keep all the ports keep the same
27:21
speakers I mean I I would absolutely be distraught if I saw Apple rur to the
27:28
whole oh we're going to put you know three uh USB C ports on here and nothing
27:34
more I don't think that's where we're headed because they added back mag safe they added back the SD card slot I think
27:40
it would be completely bizarre for them to backtrack on that now lesson not to backtrack on that dude I hope so but
27:46
when you read this story about them wanting to make everything thinnest in class that seems to be a
27:54
possibility I mean I think Apple already learned that lesson and that's also not the only reason why those uh 2016 to
28:00
2020 MacBook Pros sucked they also sucked because they had the touch bar and they had that terrible keyboard that
28:05
like explicitly didn't work as a keyboard and it also significantly raised the price but you know we're not going
28:11
to that that that's a oneway road uh however I mean I think making a thinner
28:17
Apple watch is only good news like of all the Apple the products in Apple's lineup the Apple watch is the one that I
28:22
expected most to get thinner over time and it hasn't whatsoever like it's it it sticks out pretty significant ific from
28:28
your Mist even if you don't have the Apple watch Ultra so I'm I'm all for the Apple watch Getting Thinner u i mean I
28:35
don't necessarily I I hope that rumor is wrong and that he's not saying that like the small apple watch will inexplicably
28:41
get like four millimeters larger because like I mean people's wrists haven't changed you know the small and the large
28:47
Apple watch are sized that way to match people's wrist sizes I intentionally bought a small apple watch because I don't want a giant Apple watch on my
28:54
wrist so I hope that's wrong at least I mean it's possible that like he's misattributing the display sizes to like
28:59
maybe the Apple watch Ultra and the larger size but I don't know I also bought the smaller Apple watch when I
29:05
had the regular Apple watch because I thought the big one just looked goofy so dainty the small one was well okay well
29:12
my wrists are dainty so it it matches I like the bigger ones but you know I I
29:18
think the thing with this is like those sizes I mean they they've CH they've
29:23
they've made the things you know the size bigger while keeping the old overall size the same right they just
29:29
keep making the screen bigger so I don't know that that means that that's going to be like a noticeably bigger watch you
29:37
know what I mean like I think it might actually be smaller but with a bigger screen I don't know how they keep doing that but uh it almost seems impossible
29:45
but um I if you go back and look at like an original Apple watch like series Z through Series 3 like the the display
29:51
looks like a it looks like something's wrong with it because it's so tiny it has this gigantic like black border
29:57
around it a postage stamp in the middle of a a black mat mhm right yeah I so I
30:04
don't know I thinner like some people are saying that like 41 millimeters refers to the size of the case itself
30:10
and not the size of the display I know I don't know how entirely true that is it
30:15
feels like apple is measuring this with some internal metric that applies to nothing else in reality so I I might be
30:22
worrying over nothing but I'm all for the Apple watch Getting Thinner and you know I feel like apple
30:28
learned their lesson with the MacBooks they're not going to you know retread the same mistake only eight years after
30:33
they made the you're probably right I hope you're right I don't mind thinner either I mean obviously thin is fine but
30:39
thin at the expense of practical features in battery life is a huge mistake and that's what I would hate to
30:45
see them do I mean battery life to me is the one thing that is lacking with the Apple watch because now that I every
30:52
time I wear a regular Apple watch I just I'm like oh my God is dead again what
30:57
yeah it just it's so weird after you have an ultra and you don't have to worry about it for
31:03
a few days it's it's crazy when you you get this thing you look down it's like at 12% I just put it on you know this
31:10
morning and uh I mean I don't know other other smart watches have better battery life than that so I don't understand why
31:17
they can't I mean I guess it's doing a lot more than doing a lot more yeah it's
31:22
connected to your iPhone it's getting notifications figure out some some way to boost that battery life I
31:30
mean and like there's a there's a big hump they need across either you charge it every night or it lasts long enough
31:38
that you charge it like every three or four days in the middle which is where like the regular series Apple watches
31:43
are it's kind of like well I I don't really gain anything by you know but
31:49
with like a day and a half battery life I might as well just charge it every night like I mean I don't know these people who like wear Apple watches to
31:55
sleep like I feel like I would give myself a black eye if I just like move my arm I wear mind sleep all the time it's it's my favorite alarm ever had
32:03
mysterious bruises May mean my wife my wife does but that doesn't affect me you know but you
32:09
know the the alarm clock on this thing is just the best that you can get for an
32:15
alarm clock like if you don't have to hear some loud thing screaming in your ear to wake you up and instead it starts
32:22
gently buzzing on your wrist it is such a more pleasant wakeup experience than
32:28
the Sony dream machine that I think half the United States grew up with in like the 80s and 90s the the dream machine
32:35
the ironically named dream machine the you know the nightmare Banshee that
32:40
wakes you up in the morning going you know you're in a deep sleep
32:45
that thing just starts screaming at you and you scramble to try to find it this is such a more pleasant experience it's
32:52
like a bubbling brook it's like and it gently increases it's int
32:57
intensity and I'm like ah I feel so refreshed I feel I still feel terrible
33:03
in the morning but at least I don't have the added uh irritation of that thing screaming at me okay look we got to talk
33:08
about this other MacBook Story look my friends I think that we
33:14
might be in for another new Macbook Pro very soon in fact according to this story the M4 MacBook Pro could launch
33:22
before 2024 as The Story Goes uh we have the
33:27
new um M4 iPad so we're already on that M4 kick based on supply chain checks uh
33:35
panel shipments for the 16inch and 14inch models will start in Q3
33:41
2024 according to was this Ross young I
33:46
think I know keep me honest yes in a post on X for his
33:53
subscribers dude who subscribes to people on X I really don't know like do you need to see their tweets that bad
34:00
that you're going to pay to see their tweets like I mean no hate for people that do it I just truly don't understand
34:05
like there's no tweet that I need to see bad enough to actually subscribe uh analyst Ross young claims LCD panel
34:12
shipments uh will start for the 14 and 16inch MacBook Pros in Q3
34:18
2024 we are in Q2 now I think so this
34:23
would be in the in the late summer fall quarter uh October November December would be
34:29
the Q4 yeah so um Apple oh let's see here uh Bloomberg's
34:36
Mark gurman previously reported that M4 Max would launch later this year between
34:42
the uh the end of 2024 and early 20 between the end of 2024 and typo and
34:49
early 2025 Lewis I hope you got that horse crop ready Apple will reportedly launch new quote new IMAX a low-end
34:56
14-inch MacBook a high-end 14 and 16in MacBook Pro and Mac minis all with M4
35:02
chips like before Apple has multiple M4 variants in the pipeline with more CPU and GPU course for higher performance
35:10
more powerful Macs like the Mac Studio and the Mac Pro uh should also launch later in 2025
35:17
so there you go if you've been waiting for a new Macbook Pro I mean dude when did the M3 MacBook Pro launch do we know
35:23
that off the top of our head G that was a
35:29
October 2023 I think I'm looking it up right
35:35
now I'm just curious how long will this have been okay let me pull up the Mac rors buying guide here just while while
35:41
we November 2023 okay November 2023 so it would have
35:47
been just a little longer than a year if they
35:52
well no it would have been about a year about a year for an update I'm going to
35:58
be so giddy if this happens if they launch an M4 MacBook Pro if they Lo if they launch
36:04
an M4 MacBook Pro um I think I might be able to get a
36:09
little discount going on that one that might put me over the top that might put me up the top I mean
36:16
gety go out and get one leis normally these little quips
36:23
that you have are so on point I'm not sure that one's at at the caliber I know that you're capable of that's like more
36:30
at my level I feel like and the macm is getting one at the same time imagine
36:36
that there you go I mean apple is going to do whatever they can to milk that
36:41
holiday season um especially now that I mean look it's not like I'm I'm some you
36:47
know stock Nostradamus but we talked about this on a prior show and I was like dude Nvidia is going to become the
36:54
number one company in the world from a value perspective they are now I mean I I I I'm like when does this end I I do
37:01
not know when this stops the day after I buy well okay so I finally bought in I
37:07
finally bought in today I didn't buy I didn't buy a ton um I thought about liquidating some of my Apple stock to
37:14
buy in but I'm like that's a probably a bad idea but Apple just had a big move with their stock last week I think and
37:21
so Nvidia oh of course I did buy today now it's down it's already down like 5%
37:27
yeah once nvidia's on the top they only have one way to go airon that's not true there's two ways they could go up or
37:34
down oh dear so Nvidia is now worth 3.21 7
37:40
trillion Microsoft is now 3.3 so they're back at the top I think and apple is at
37:46
3.2 so Nvidia and apple neck and neck Nvidia was the most valuable company in
37:51
the world um last week and I'm like dude where does this end you know I Nvidia is
37:58
the GPU of choice powering the AI generation it's everyone's favorite GPU
38:05
for gaming and do you see the AI stuff ending anytime soon I don't we're at the
38:11
very beginning and it's already worth three trillion and that sounds like a lot but like in five years people will
38:19
be like remember when companies were only worth three trillion like once everyone's Minds adjust then the start
38:25
the stock starts going back up again I mean before you know it we're going to be at 9 trillion 10 trillion remember
38:31
when a coffee used to cost $5 yeah my grocery bill is almost the
38:36
same valuation of this Nvidia stock now why don't my grandkids call me
38:42
anymore every time I go to Costco I got about a 1.2 trillion evaluation at the
38:48
checkout line so everything just keeps going up man but I I don't see how a
38:55
company like that can be worth more than Apple I mean Apple has you know a million product lines all these
39:02
different things and Nidia makes what they make gpus one thing right do they
39:08
make that one thing is I mean they they make a lot of different variations of one thing but that one thing is
39:16
perfectly positioned to power literally everything in the world and every time
39:21
they come out with a new model everybody upgrades because they want the next best
39:27
you know card that's available and so and corporates or corporates you have
39:33
your corporates out there Louis see this is what you need to understand your corporates they're out there building these GPU farms and they're filling up
39:42
warehouses warehouses full with just gpus all from Nvidia you can barely buy
39:50
a Nvidia GPU good luck trying to find one you want like a 4090 I mean maybe Best Buy might have
39:56
one in stock the one that Nvidia itself makes impossible you won't find it like if you want like a third party card then
40:03
maybe you can find that and once the 590s come out it's going to be the same story The 580s the 570s I mean you can
40:10
you can find the lower-end cards now but between Gamers crypto Miners and GPU
40:15
Farms everybody in their grandma wants Nvidia my mom bought Nvidia she's literally a grandma she bought Nvidia
40:23
probably two years ago she had stock she bought well sorry I'm Switching gears here yeah
40:30
invid stock so my mom came to me and she's like I want to buy a bunch of
40:35
stock and I'm like okay what do you want she like this huge list you probably got it from Jim Kramer and so I went out and
40:42
bought a bunch of stuff like it was Nvidia I think Comcast and some other stuff it was painful for me to buy
40:48
Comcast stock you know uh admittedly but now that stock that she bought all
40:54
thanks to Nvidia is worth like two or three times what she paid for it because Nvidia is so Bonkers now it's out of
41:01
this world man and I'm like how far can apple go I'm sorry we're totally off the beaten path
41:06
here all right before we move on get on this it's not even on the it's not even one of the top I know shocking shocking
41:13
the world uh let me see here before we move on oh I don't want to do
41:19
that yes before we move on I want to again thank built for supporting this
41:28
episode let me go ahead and queue it up if you rent rent is probably your
41:34
biggest expense and the Lord of your land he doesn't want anything but cash
41:40
or check so it's impossible to earn rewards I mean I remember when I used to pay rent I was always like it would be
41:47
so great if I could get some kind of rewards for paying my rent because you
41:53
would just be raking in rewards I mean you got to spend the money it's most people's biggest expense and yet you
41:59
can't because your your lord of your lands just wants cash or check but think
42:05
of all the rewards you could be earning paying your rent now you can with built built is the
42:13
first built is breaking ground as the first Rewards program that hooks you up
42:18

42:49
flight or we just said that part sorry you can even use your points toward a future rent payment that's that's pretty
42:56
meta if you think about it or towards a future down payments on a home pay rent
43:01
hasslefree through the built Rewards app built points have been consistently
43:06
ranked as the highest value Point currency by the point sky and bank rate
43:11

43:23
join built.com cultcast to start earning points with your rent payments today I feel
43:30
like I'm slowly losing my ability to talk today all right let's move on we got a
43:37
bunch of stuff to talk about still and I think this might be our longest story so I'm going to send it over to Griffin to
43:43
see if he can make it through this in five minutes or less I don't know if it's possible there's a whole lot of
43:50
notes in here where is that arbitrary limitation coming from I I I disagree with that what what would you like six
43:56
minutes uh you know let's just let's just see how it goes that's what I was hoping you wouldn't weren't going to say okay where
44:02
my where are my open eye goggles no I'm just joking take it away Griffin there's a lot of stuff in here so I installed
44:08
iOS 18 last week unfortunately and um I'm doing it so our our our dear
44:14
listeners don't have to because I'm going to tell you I'm going to tell you all about the the new stuff so that I
44:19
can save you from the pain yeah it's it's pretty buggy um it it's one of the more buggy betas that that we've had in
44:25
a few years um and I've you know Apple has Apple has quite a bit of bug testing to do in the
44:32
next few months but uh I'm going to walk through some of the highlights of the the new
44:38
Big features that I've that I've discovered uh the first big change is obviously the free placement of app
44:43
icons on the home screen this is a little weird first of all when you first
44:49
update iOS 18 you know obviously your all of your apps are still going to be like in the giant order that they were
44:56
like left to right top to bottom so if you have a bunch of apps in a group
45:01
breaking one of the icons away you know maybe to move them to the bottom of the screen will still make the rest of the icons do that shuffle left to right
45:09
bottom up as as they used to but as soon as you just have an icon on its own like you put it on the bottom or you put it
45:15
on a different page you can put it wherever you want on the invisible grid but then again if you put too many icons
45:22
together then they'll start flowing into each other again it's very bizarre another element of the the customize the
45:28
home screen is the recoloring of the app icons you can keep them in light mode you can switch to dark mode or you can
45:34
pick a an accent color of you're choosing have the all monochrome U according to Apple's
45:41
guidelines the dark mode icons are all supposed to adopt this black gradient that's apparently like a standard
45:47
element provided by the system so like if if an app developer is making a dark mode icon they start with Apple's dark
45:53
gray at a darker gray gradient and then they're just supposed to put their you know colorful symbol on top of it which
45:59
is kind of weird uh the color tinted icons always start on top of that black
46:06
gradient as well so although you can pick whatever color you want if you want like sort of a light pastel color scheme
46:14
it's going to look really ugly no matter what you do yeah some of these look truly terrible so like you you really want to
46:21
the the you don't think of it as like it's dark or whatever color I want it's
46:26
still you know a a dark mode theme even though you can even though you can pick
46:31
whatever color like you a light blue or like lavender or light pink that would
46:37
that would uh the other main feature is the
46:43
customizable control center so you can add new icons you can resize them which is pretty cool so if you want to make
46:48
like the flashlight button bigger and more obvious and easier to hit with your thumb you can make it bigger and um you
46:54
can also remove the ones you don't want and the great thing is you can do this all from control center itself like
47:00
before I don't think people even knew that you could go in settings and change the control center buttons but now it's
47:05
much more obvious because you just do it from the same place and there are a bunch more controls to choose from
47:10
like there's like literally pages and Pages like you're you go to customized Control Center and add a widget and
47:16
there are literally like Pages upon pages of buttons you can add it's really cool like all of the accessibility
47:22
features can basically be toggled as buttons in control center that you can add if you want
47:27
um and third party apps will be able to add their own as well which will be pretty neat um it's it's like
47:34
hilariously buggy right now I tried moving around some of the buttons and like you try to move one icon here and
47:41
then like literally like the rest of the entire page shuffles around in a completely nonsensical order sometimes
47:47
you're moving around buttons and they just like disappear under your finger so you're just moving around like an invisible square and then it's like well
47:53
how do I get it back this is why I didn't install the beta I you know this is the buggiest part of the the
47:59
system and it's kind of I'm I'm going to give it a few versions before I install it on my phone yeah uh now the other big
48:06
change that I want to call out is the new photos app this is the other like
48:12
major change they call it like the biggest redesign of the photos app ever and I you can certainly see that and I
48:18
can see what they're going for because I've observed other people using their
48:23
phones and admittedly most people pick in most people go to one tab either
48:30
the either the library tab or the camera roll like the the recent album and they
48:36
just stay in that 100% of the time and the new design kind of accommodates that
48:42
because there's not really a tab bar on the bottom at all like you open the photos app and it's just one giant
48:49
scrollable view so you scroll up to see your library you scroll down to see the list of albums and
48:55
memories like the core idea there is sound but then they didn't stop
49:01
designing it and that's the problem because it's far more complicated when
49:07
you actually use it than it needs to be like after you scroll down for example you can't just scroll back up to see
49:13
your photo library again because when you scroll down your photo library disappears and becomes a rotating
49:18
Carousel of like people oh no favorite shots intelligently chosen
49:23
images it which is incredibly confusing like figure trying to figure out just
49:29
how to get back to your library is like you have to happen to notice that there's like this tiny little three dot
49:34
like page ination on the bottom and then you have to scroll back and find your library somewhere in that horizontally
49:39
scrolling list when you're trying to scroll up to find it again like it's really confusing and then you you keep
49:45
scrolling down and they just have like way too many sections below the fold you
49:50
scroll down and there are sections for recent days people and pets pinned collections memories trips albums
49:58
featured photos media types utilities and wallpaper suggestions that's just too many
50:05
categories utilities is like the categories of like um uh I think it's like recently deleted
50:12
and hidden and stuff like that what a weird name it's it's just too many sections and apple is like oh well you
50:18
can customize it ordinary people aren't going to customize this they're going to be confused the first time they look at it and just wish that it was the old way
50:25
again caveman from the chat says I can't wait till I have to explain this all to my wife
50:31
exactly like I don't think Apple needs to Chuck the design out and revert to the old one but as it is it is far more
50:39
confusing I mean I'm looking at the picture that you posted in this story and I I I can the first thing in my mind
50:45
was how do I get back to my photo library that that was my very first thought you can't you can't look at that
50:51
picture and identify how to get back to your photo library and that's a picture from the Keynote
50:57
yeah but they thought this was a good idea yeah they just need to they just need to pair it back a little bit redu
51:03
number of categories get rid of that stupid carousell thing like how how would you do that from that screenshot we're looking at now the feature the oh
51:11
I'm not looking at the same screenshot as you because I let me bring it up and um uh let me find it right
51:17
here so oh yeah from that screenshot you see the the tiny little dots underneath
51:24
where it says featured photos yeah yeah little gray dot you you need to scroll left or right an arbitrary number of
51:30
times until you get back to the screen that says library and then you can scroll back up and see your library yeah
51:36
not good ux a little too subtle yeah so if you really want to try
51:42
out iOS 18 it's available in a beta right now I I don't recommend it wait until the public beta in
51:48
July um I also highly recommend you click through the the show notes to see the full article because you know I
51:53
highlighted the the three main features here but there's still much more like in messages the new passwords app calendar
51:59
settings Safari uh math notes has apparently come to the iPhone and and much more that I discovered yeah there's
52:05
a bunch of stuff in here obviously the link to the story will be in the show notes if you want to go through all this
52:11
but we would have to do a whole episode to cover all this stuff holy moly look at all this stuff okay and we probably will over the course of like the next
52:17
few months just sure once it becomes more stable we can both talk about it
52:22
once you're done being the guinea pig and I'm like oh yeah now it's stable I'll install it let me know it's stable Griffin oh uh I do want to say I'm not
52:30
running the Mac OS beta right now but there is one thing that's really tempting me to install the Mac OS beta
52:36
and that is of all things there's a new chess app they changed the chess app for
52:42
the first time since Mac OS 10.3 you don't say man think I didn't
52:48
even know there was a chess app me either imagine being the dev who got put on the chess app in Mac you're like oh
52:55
no my career is over I'll never recover from this like where do where do I go from here you know you
53:01
want me to do what it's one of the oldest apps on the Mac like it's been unchanged for like 12 years and even
53:08
before that it's one of the apps that came over from Next Step wow I think I remember playing chess on the Mac ages
53:14
eons ago but I didn't even know it was still there okay my god there it
53:20
[Laughter] isz all right Louis speaking of uh
53:25
speaking of features no one knew about how's that for a segue wow man did you did that on the Fly I know that that
53:32
could that was wow that's impressive that's what happens when you podcast for 13 or 14 or 12 years whichever one is
53:38
actually true I'm not sure oh yeah so uh we did a little post
53:44
uh this is by our own reesh Pandy yeah he wrote 11 hidden iOS 18 features Apple
53:51
did not tell you about because they're sneaky they like to hide stuff
53:56
so uh and one of these you know as as mentioned 11 items this is probably going to grow as time goes on because
54:03
there's B to be more things show but one of the cool things it's a super minor but this is the kind of thing I love
54:08
pressing the volume or side button on your iPhone triggers animation that makes the screen bezel look like it's
54:15
expanding oh did you see that in the video you say did you say bezel bezel
54:21
bezel I don't know how to pronounce it okay bezel bezel bezel it's like you
54:26
click the volume like either a side button or the power button on your phone and it's like you're you're squishing the black in a little bit on the screen
54:32
it's really cool yeah it's that is one of those super cool little uh UI things
54:38
that Apple does that you go wow that is thoughtful well implemented doesn't you know make your phone do something screwy
54:45
that you don't like it's just it's just a nice touch uh you can see why they didn't mention it but anyway it looks
54:51
cool uh you're were just talking about all the home screen customization opts
54:56
one of the things you can do is you can hide the app labels the name or the names you know the Nam oh that actually
55:02
is Handy very clean looking right yeah I mean who needs to see the actual name of
55:07
the app beneath the icon now what I don't know is if if you can hide those one by one no you switch larger icons
55:16
and then all of the icons get slightly larger and they sh and they hide the labels ah wonderful I love that I've got
55:24
so many apps on my iPhone that I never use and don't like I I'm stunned that they're even there when they show up in
55:29
a search I'm like what is this I don't even can't remember what they were anyway let's see uh you can already
55:34
adjust the flashlight intensity on the iPhone to the control center but in iOS 18 you can change the flashlight width
55:41
like the beam that it shoots out have you seen that in action no there a tweet on the page shows it it's pretty
55:47
interesting you can change the the the angle of the beam is that what you said
55:53
the the like the width of the beam you know like no way the focus of the beam
55:59
let's see that's crazy I knew you'd like that let's see
56:05
uh virtual power button added to the control center so you don't have to remember exactly how you turn the thing
56:10
on and off let's see uh yeah search function in
56:17
the settings menu and iOS 18 will automatically show relevant suggestions based on your past usage might be handy
56:24
might be another thing where it tricks you and keeps switching it out even as you're typing press the wrong thing you
56:29
got to go dive back in dude that screen bezel thing when you press the volume button I'm watch it's cool it that that
56:36
is uh that slick that is a Bonkers UI effect the fact that they even thought
56:43
about that so it it it emulates pressure on the on the outside band of the phone
56:49
to make it look like you're pressing in on the frame of the phone when it's just a UI effect it's like uh it's like the
56:56
rubber band effect from way back in the day right yeah and uh it's just one of those little cool things that you just
57:03
say wow that is that's quality that's quality right there it doesn't doesn't
57:08
do a thing it doesn't make the phone work faster run it probably makes it the battery you know 0 one% probably drains
57:14
the battery yeah but uh it's quality workmanship right there L quality workmanship I agree let's see I don't I
57:21
don't know how much more this this is actually look pretty major too the iCloud page gets a major up up grade it
57:26
looks if you show a screenshot of that it looks way way way different and actually in useful ways because it's
57:32
it's kind of weird I mean I every time I dive into the iCloud part of the phone it's like just seems really anemic this
57:38
look this looks great I don't know if you've checked that any thing that I've noticed in the settings app is that like uh if you go to different pages like the
57:45
general page or the accessibility page or uh like the Wi-Fi page it has these
57:50
nice little like friendly explanatory like cards on the top of the screen there like explains the kind of settings
57:56
that you can expect to find there so it'll you know teach people over time where to find certain settings cool all
58:03
right let's see uh and this was the first one in the uh in the post and and
58:09
we were talking about before the show it's a little confusing uh but it's actually a great thing they they tweaked
58:14
the recents tab in the in the phone app so that now when you go in there you see the list of people who've called you
58:19
recently you don't if there's like a a call button or something or a icon that
58:25
that that let let you you you can easily press a thing that pulls up the contact as opposed to like right now you have to
58:32
you know click on that remember to click on that little I icon over the right if you happen to click on the person's name
58:38
or tap on the person's name instead you automatically call them and you know I it happens to be all the time I mean to
58:44
because to be honest I don't use the phone that often and when I do use it I almost never use it for in that way it's
58:50
always always like you know hey you know what's her name please call such a such
58:56
which by the way at least 50% of the time it gets it right that's AI That's a
59:02
power of AI That's why in video stock is going to the moon like to clarify if you're in the
59:08
recents tab and you tap on any row item right now it'll default to immediately
59:14
calling that person and you have to tip on the tiny little ey to see the details of the call which is probably what you mean to do and an iOS 18 that's reversed
59:21
where now if you tap the road it'll show that the detail View and you have to tap a little phone button if you want to try and call it makes it much much harder to
59:28
accidentally call somebody when you all you really want to know is who is this person that called me you know right now
59:35
it's like walking through a like a Minefield or something trying not to call anybody with your finger
59:40
accidentally exactly let's see what else got anything else L I think you hit all the Beats yeah I
59:49
don't know I didn't even understand the files app has a keep downloaded option I for file saved and I I mean I understand
59:56
what that is but I've never uh that's not I've never run into that being a
1:00:02
problem this this is cool though offline Apple Maps sying with Apple watch first time ever apparently I didn't I that's
1:00:09
one of those things like I'm surpris really it doesn't work with Apple watch but I've I guess I've never tried it I never I I don't have a well I don't
1:00:17
often go anywhere without my phone so why would I do that but anyway I think that's I think that's maybe 11 I don't
1:00:24
know can't remember anyway it's all you got on there okay we'll keep adding to it as time goes on we discover more or
1:00:31
you know the internet discovers more hidden features in iOS I always love the hidden features stuff because there's
1:00:38
always so many features that are packed in there that they don't have time to discuss at the keynote and their life
1:00:45
improvements that you just get to stumble on and so like the hidden iOS features it's one of my favorite
1:00:50
segments that we do every single time they make uh or create new versions of iOS because there's always a ton of
1:00:55
stuff in there that you discover right and they're little nuggets that you wouldn't have heard about from Apple
1:01:01
what one thing that I don't I don't know if they mentioned this in the um the
1:01:06
wwec 24 keynote but uh the way that the Siri UI Works where it like lights up
1:01:13
around the edges or something that looks really uh pretty is that is that working now in the in the beta or no that new UI
1:01:20
only comes to the new Siri so if you don't have like right now Siri looks
1:01:26
exactly as it always has and it will for everybody who doesn't have an iPhone 15 Pro
1:01:32
oh right right I got it because the the the around the screen Edge UI for Siri
1:01:38
is supposed to indicate Siri is looking at your entire screen and can take action on what you're doing like it's
1:01:44
symbolic okay I didn't even realize that that is interesting I didn't realize that either that's pretty
1:01:50
cool of course of course it's got additional meaning I of course have
1:01:55
haven't tried it because I'm not going to download an iOS beta no and it's also
1:02:01
not in there all the Apple none of the Apple intelligence features are in the first beta at all but people have been
1:02:06
posting shots that right because there is some kind of way you can like tweak there's some kind of tweet
1:02:11
you can do to to supposedly get the new Siri but I don't I've never uh yet come to figure out if that's actually the new
1:02:18
Siri UI or the actual new superpowered extra almost kind of smart Siri or what
1:02:26
I don't know exactly what the distinction is but I I have seen that process and I'm in the I'm I'm in the middle of trying to do myself it's it's
1:02:32
it's a very complicated uh set of steps you have to go through just to have that
1:02:37
new user interface hey you know what it looks pretty cool every time you use it you say wow I'm glad I went through all
1:02:43
that time and effort this is the kind of hard-hitting investigative journalism you can find at cul
1:02:48
of.com that is true investigative journalism okay well we got through all
1:02:55
the Apple news let me wrap up with this story the cherry on top just when you
1:03:00
thought the SAG I had concluded oh no my friends the movie pass
1:03:07
documentary that we talked about I don't even know how long ago it was but I was
1:03:12
like this needs to be turned into a movie I remember actually saying that and my friends here we are the movie
1:03:20
Crash or the movie pass comma movie Crash documentary available now on HBO
1:03:27
I've been meaning to bring this up but uh we haven't been able to work it in and when I saw this pop up I was tickled
1:03:34
I was like no way they actually made one um from the description on the website
1:03:41
page movie pass was a movie lovers dream that is true offering access to movie
1:03:47
theater tickets at a discounted rate but but in just8 years it went from being the fastest growing Subscription Service
1:03:53
since Spotify to Total Bank ruptcy which I think I called I was like this there's no way this service can can survive I
1:04:01
mean the reason it was growing so fast because everyone knew that they were basically just giving away free
1:04:08
movies uh Movie Pass movie Crash Chronicles the Visionary mission of its co-founders its impressive early success
1:04:15
as an Innovative movie ticketing model I mean
1:04:21
success it depends on how you frame it yes the model
1:04:26
was popular but the reason the model was popular is because you were literally giving away movies and people are like I
1:04:33
can pay you $10 a month to see as many $14 movies as I want that seems like a
1:04:39
good deal deal you know uh let's see here uh documenting its impressive early
1:04:46
success as an Innovative movie ticketing model and its precipitous downfall caused by mismanagement and corporate
1:04:52
greed dude I don't know if that's it I think they're business model was a complete joke I mean you can't sell a
1:05:00
membership for an unlimited uh item when you're paying when that item has an expense that you
1:05:08
have to pay for that costs more than the membership itself that just doesn't work uh let's see here anything else in here
1:05:15
that uh I want to talk about no it's on HBO max if you want to conclude the
1:05:21
great movie Past Saga with a documentary that expl explains all the inner workings and everything we loved about
1:05:29
movie pass I was one of the first to sign up for the service and at the time I was like this is one of the best
1:05:35
Services I've ever paid for I was seeing one two movies a week paying $10 a month
1:05:43
and the movies in Seattle you know are $14 a pop and I mean I had to have cost
1:05:48
them like hundreds of dollars over the course of my membership um and then they went out of business and then rebranded
1:05:56
and the Rebrand was actually pretty good well I guess this was like the second or third Rebrand because like the second
1:06:02
one I think they were selling like t-shirts and teddy bears and stuff which is kind of odd but when they finally
1:06:08
came out with a real business model um it wasn't a bad deal you could pay them I think $15 a month to see up to two
1:06:15
movies a week or something I forget what the actual model was and I was like this is actually really good and now it's a
1:06:21
total joke it's like you pay them I think like $15 a month and they give you
1:06:26
credits and depending on what time of day you go or if you go on the movie or
1:06:32
on the weekend you know the credits end up giving you essentially like what you've paid for at a slight discount so
1:06:38
it's just really not worth it at all but I salute Movie Pass even though it cost
1:06:43
them hundreds of millions of dollars it changed the movie industry forever and it couldn't have been more
1:06:49
preent I mean with covid looming which of course none of us knew about
1:06:56
except for maybe Al Gore it allowed movie theaters to create a business
1:07:02
model that allowed them to you know have a subscription based revenue and
1:07:09
possibly even stay in business and now Regal copied them um uh I want to say MD
1:07:17
that's obviously not it what's the other MC thank you one letter off I was so
1:07:22
close AMC copied them and so Movie Pass though they are defunct and completely
1:07:30
out of money probably well that's not true because they're back in business their their their soul lives on in these
1:07:36
other movie theater models so in a way they did change the course of history
1:07:41
they just didn't do it for themselves they planted a tree that they themselves didn't get to live under and I think
1:07:47
that's quite change oh sorry sorry that's all that's all I have how much those other movie change charge for that
1:07:53
I mean I know Alamo Draft House has one but it was something like 20 or 30 bucks a month it's like I think
1:07:58
AMC is 20 something depending on the market that you're in Regal might be a
1:08:04
little bit less but they have fewer features than AMC does so it's in line
1:08:10
and like the models from AMC and Regal I think are unlimited I think they actually are
1:08:15
unlimited I think whereas movie pass I don't even know let's go to movie Past
1:08:21
yeah credits now but you know the most amazing thing aart aside from the fact that the movie exists the most amazing
1:08:26
thing about what you read was that movie pass was in business for eight years well yes they were but they they
1:08:34
made the changes I think in like the last two years of their ownership so before they were charging like $30 or
1:08:41
$60 a month for a a limited selection of movies or a limited amount of movies and then they went ham in like their last
1:08:48
two or three years and dropped it down to $10 which of course was never going to work went what ham
1:08:57
what heart as a mother oh got it yeah
1:09:04
and uh so you're saying like the the the ludicrous business model that they were famous for was
1:09:09
only was only true of their last two years of business I think it was their last two years it might have been three
1:09:15
let's see here billions worth of box office for as low as $10 per month okay so here okay yeah
1:09:22
so you get they have a basic plan $10 up to
1:09:27
three movies per month and yeah if you see it at 600 a.m. on a Monday your credits might be worth three movies but
1:09:33
otherwise they're going to be worth one movie or you can spend $20 and get up to
1:09:38
four movies per month so it now it's like there are all these games that they
1:09:44
that you've got to like figure out right it's like oh I get credits and the credits the movies cost different amount
1:09:49
of credits at the different hours and the different days like how do I maximize so if you're like a senior citizen who's unemployed
1:09:55
then maybe this is worth it for you but if you have a job you are not going to be getting up to three movies per month
1:10:01
for $10 a month that's not happening like you might see one movie for 10 bucks
1:10:06
but not worth it in my opinion I think it said something about uh because I was looking at this a while back when it
1:10:12
when it resurfaced it doesn't it's like oh your credits don't expire for three months or something like that wasn't it
1:10:18
oh really oh so your credits expire window learn about credits let's see
1:10:23
here more investigative journalism keep investigating yeah
1:10:30
okay so I forgot the prices already look at this yeah if you go on a
1:10:38
weekday afternoon it's 15 credits if you go on a or a week day afternoon it's 15
1:10:43
a weekend 25 credits weekend night 30 credits you just used all your
1:10:49
credits I don't know use them all at once
1:10:55
or save them up your credits R all over you can have up to two months of credits
1:11:01
in your account at any one time so if you don't use them they just expire leis
1:11:06
yeah that's what I thought that's when I said you know this ain't for me yeah dude
1:11:12
it's not for me either it sounds to me though like we we should watch the documentary and do an off topic about it
1:11:18
we have a lot to say which by the way I'll wrap up with we have a all new off topic that I should have released last
1:11:24
week but alas it's went out this week about the willhelm scream the scream
1:11:29
you've all heard in the movies that you've all watched and funny enough you son of a guns I went and watched uh I
1:11:37
went and watched Lord of the Rings uh Return of the King this weekend and
1:11:42
guess what I heard uh legalis was um climbing up on one of those elephants
1:11:48
and he shot this guy and he goes ah as he fell off and I I slapped my
1:11:54
knee I was like no way there it is the will H hel scream I never noticed it before and after you guys hear this
1:12:01
episode you will never be able to unhear it either I mean it's a sound effect used across all of M movie history and I
1:12:09
I never even knew but that's a topic that's off and for another time
1:12:15
slightly off we're going to go ahead and wrap it up there that's all the cultcast we have for you guys this week but as I
1:12:23
mentioned the party continues in cast off topic which if you would like
1:12:28

1:12:46

1:12:52

1:13:07
issue credits and the credits are good for Forks the forks can be used at certain
1:13:12
times uh let's see here uh new episodes of the cold cast come out every Thursday
1:13:17
I want to thank everyone for listening for hanging out live and we will see you [Music] guys next time that reminds me of the
1:13:26
Bluetooth Fork that we saw at CES one year and I thought to myself they truly
1:13:31
are out of ideas leis they've got nothing left the Bluetooth Fork is this
1:13:36
like a diet related thing like I don't even think it did that I think it was like going to buzz if you ate too fast
1:13:41
and you're not digesting your food properly or something I mean it probably cost $100 Hey fatty keep that Tork away
1:13:47
from your mouth dude CES is a is is a stadium full of broken dreams
1:13:55
and terrible ideas it's like how did you get this far I mortgaged my house to
1:14:01
design the Bluetooth Fork you shouldn't have done that you definitely should not have done
1:14:07
that all right all I'm going stop the broadcast now
