hey everyone today i'm going to show you
0:11
how you can use multiple monitors to
0:12
your advantage
0:14
now there's a lot of different uses for
0:15
multiple monitors connected to your mac
0:17
there's a lot of different things you
0:18
can do with them
0:20
to make your life more productive
0:23
so first off if you like to video edit
0:26
and i do a lot of video editing what you
0:28
can do is you can open up this works for
0:31
either imovie or final cut and you can
0:35
distribute some different parts of the
0:36
window over to your secondary monitor so
0:39
i'm going to open up imovie now in this
0:41
project you can see that on the left
0:43
monitor on my secondary display i have
0:45
the viewer for imovie and on the right i
0:47
have my project library as well as what
0:50
i'm working on editing
0:52
now normally the viewer would also be on
0:54
the main display and it gives you less
0:57
room to edit so this right here is how
0:58
imovie would normally look but what i
1:01
can do is i can go up to the window menu
1:03
and on the window menu i can go down to
1:05
viewer on other display and as soon as i
1:08
click that you can now see that my
1:10
viewer is on the other display and i can
1:12
work on editing from right here now the
1:14
same is also true for final cut pro 10.
1:16
as you can see on the left monitor my
1:18
secondary display i have all my event
1:21
libraries and my clips and on the right
1:23
i have my viewer and my editing as well
1:26
as inspector windows so normally in
1:28
final cut pro 10 this is what you'll see
1:30
but what i can do is i can go up to the
1:31
window menu and if i scroll down you can
1:33
see i have a couple different options
1:34
here show events on second display show
1:36
viewer on second display or revert to
1:38
original layout and i'm just going to
1:40
show
1:41
events on my secondary display and now
1:43
you can see from here my events are on
1:45
my secondary display and it gives me
1:47
more room to work now you can also use
1:49
your secondary display to show handy
1:51
information
1:52
with something like geek tool and i did
1:54
a different how-to on that and i'll make
1:56
sure to put a link in this post
1:58
so that you can see
2:00
uh how to set up its geek tool on your
2:02
desktop
2:03
but from here you can see i can display
2:05
handy information
2:07
right on my secondary display
2:10
now of course the main function of a
2:11
secondary display is to run
2:13
other applications so you can see here i
2:15
always run a twitter client on my
2:17
secondary display and this really makes
2:19
effective use out of the space i have
2:21
but my final and probably favorite way
2:24
to use a secondary display is to use it
2:26
for file organization now if you look on
2:28
my main monitor here you can see that
2:29
it's very clean and very neat and there
2:31
are no files and folders scattered
2:33
around my desktop but if you look at my
2:35
secondary display here you can see that
2:36
i tend to keep a lot of files and
2:38
folders on it and kind of scattered
2:40
around where i need them and for what i
2:42
need them and this i think is the most
2:44
handy thing that you can do with a
2:45
secondary display well it's probably one
2:47
of the most overlooked as well for
2:49
example when i'm working in the finder
2:51
and i have a whole bunch of finder
2:52
windows open and let's say i want to
2:54
grab something from my desktop i don't
2:56
necessarily want to have to dig through
2:58
all the finder windows or maybe use
3:00
expose or something like that
3:02
to get to the files on my desktop
3:04
where with having all my files on my
3:06
desktop on my secondary display it's
3:08
very easy to quick access and drag
3:10
things over
3:11
you can also apply this to emails if you
3:14
want to drag over attachments all kinds
3:16
of things
3:17
if i save any graphics from the web i
3:19
can just drag them right to the
3:21
secondary display it's very handy and
3:23
it's very useful and this i think is
3:25
probably the best way that you can use a
3:28
secondary display so i hope this video
3:30
helped you maximize the possibilities of
3:32
your secondary display and as always if
3:34
there's any how-to's that you'd like to
3:36
see me do make sure you leave a comment
3:38
or send me an email so that i can get
3:40
right to work on any how to's you'd like
3:43
to see me do in the future so i hope you
3:44
found this video useful and thank you
3:46
