0:12
at some point in this slow moving Calamity we'll actually have a podcast uh that's actually a great name for a
0:18
future podcast slow moving Calamity slow s SMC welcome to
0:24
SMC I'm waiting for the bits to come in I still see nothing
0:31
dude what is it just taking a long time okay this is where we start
0:38
praying oh I think it worked I'm missing right
0:46
now that was the Jerry Seinfeld intro I nailed it that time I saw uh an episode
0:52
of him with Jiminy Glick did you guys ever watched Jiminy Glick no
0:58
dude oh man JY Glick is this character played by Martin Short who is one of my
1:03
favorite comedic people of all time and he dresses up like this big fat suit and he plays this character called jimy
1:09
Glick and he is completely irreverent to all these beloved celebrities in Hollywood and Comedians and stuff he had
1:16
Jerry sein fold on and he just spent like 20 minutes just roasting him in the
1:22
most clever fashion I've ever heard and I was dying laughing um all right hey
1:27
everyone can you hear us can you see us more importantly and for some reason my chat's not
1:33
working everything's broken it's all falling apart which means it's time to start the show before we do I want to
1:39
give a shout out to chriswood we got Armada we got G blanson here caveman uh
1:45
Armada again oh boy we got a big one from Hugo last I can't read this yet but
1:50
a big one we got level remix here the chat's going wild wow they were all
1:56
waiting for us it's probably because we're 35 minutes late um I have a fly Ling around my desk really that's going
2:02
to be really funny if it my God just keeps landing on your head say right in your face full make Pence like Pence I
2:09
was thinking like turn that to it's like there was just a fly crawling across your head all right what happened to Obama too did
2:17
it I don't remember uh okay let me let me tweet the tweeted uh the Tweet God
2:23
what did I say that so poorly the Tweet has been tweeted leis I'm reading your
2:29
mind oh man G forked it over already we had some Forks come in this week we might need to actually work on that fork idea
2:36
I don't know how many of them were new Forks but we had some people forking it over oh man G says Martin SCH is killing
2:43
it on Kimmel this week Bill hater was in tear tears Bill hater is actually another another one of my like alltime
2:50
funniest people that guy's impressions are so funny you like some people are just funny and everything they do is
2:57
just funny I will frell is one of those guys at least he used to be for me I know he really rubs some people the wrong way my my wife can't stand him um
3:04
but Bill hater is one of those people for me like he just is a funny person and every story he tells cracks me up
3:10
which is rare most people I think are not funny it's like most bands are not good like 98% of bands leis completely
3:16
suck and there's like 2% of bands that actually have talent and skill and the rest are
3:22
terrible uh okay there's no argument I mean it's
3:29
true [Music] you were you were scaring your mind's eye for all the bands you've seen and
3:35
you're like he's right he's right to read most of them leave you with tontis
3:40
and nothing more read your Tweet all right we got Carlos here we
3:48
need to jump into this and I'm actually I I appreciate that Hugo last asked me
3:54
this uh this question I don't know how much of this I can dive into we might need to do this on an off topic uh and I might
4:00
have to do off topic solo cuz I'm not sure that Griffin or Lewis would want to be involved in this conversation all
4:06
right should we go ahead and get this thing moving I got to be walking out the door in 62 minutes flat so let me go
4:14
ahead and uh queue up Mrs you know who and we'll get this thing rolling on
4:19
Mrs
4:25
D I don't know if I got the stomach for it this week so so so chipper say Mrs D
4:31
oh yes I had a wonderful dinner with elcy last night oh really oh yes my dear
4:37
oh Mrs D I don't really want to hear anymore about that oh no it was lovely we had pizza pie and
4:45
okay and a nice large salad oh wow doesn't sound too bad
4:53
Louis I'm pleasantly surprised at this point but I know thing's going to take a 2 hours well let me tell you we for
5:00
desserts oh boy my nude body with whipped cream
5:11
gross don't forget the cherries my dear for a minute there I thought I was
5:17
gonna have to go to the Urban Dictionary look something up I imagine that scene from um
5:23
uh oh man Varsity Blues no one remembers that movie with me I can't even believe remember that
5:30
movie or the name of it heard of it Varsity Blues where they wore like the the whipped cream
5:37
bikini now Lis is interested wow oh man I hope at least one other
5:44
person found that reference funny aside from me I apologize okay uh Louis if you don't
5:50
mind I know that you love to hear the escapades of alcy and Mrs D but we need to get this thing rolling we have almost
5:56
no time left so I'm going to go ahead and hit the music and and we'll get it started in wait a second loc do you have
6:02
your recording going did you ask that Ian it has been that kind of a day
6:09
but yes I do okay well let's check it get this thing going in three
6:14
two hello and welcome toass best 30 plus minute app conversation you're going to
6:20
hear all week long I'm your to join me today now that it's summer he's letting
6:26
the culac writing team have 15 minutes of recreational yard time where they could Frolic and play outside without
6:33
being shocked by their escape prevention collars he's the maning edor F Lis
6:39
wellis is here hey I just learned what hogwash means this week wow we could do a whole
6:45
episode just on that also with us something you may not know at night before bed after brushing his teeth and
6:51
saying his prayers the UN velcro that very expensive tuck of pair and places it on a stand for
6:58
safekeeping [Music] he right here called back criet Jones is
7:06
here this is the worst kind of misinformation this hair is all natural I have photographic evidence oh man look
7:12
at that hairline there's no way that's fake I thought it was Lego good guess there is no way clearly
7:20
that's injust that's that's Craig fedy level hair right there which I saw a picture of him again this week and I was
7:27
just looking at that hairline I'm like dude oh unbelievable for his age to have that hairline we're not going to get
7:33
into it again we've already probably done 20 or 30 minutes on this topic but
7:38
there's certain older gentlemen who just keep like this amazing hairline jeno's another one man it's an Italian thing
7:44
man you know what you might be right I am right I'm always
7:49
right okay well that also explains like the very white hair with the very black eyebrows I feel like that's also an
7:55
Italian thing oh yeah for sure or a Muppet thing
8:01
also that all right we got a whole lot of show to talk uh uh or to do this week
8:06
I don't even know if we're going to have time for all this stuff because we only have an hour I got to be leaving in an hour unfortunately um and we have so
8:13
many topics uh let me go through my notes Here did I did I close my notes let's hope so 10 pounds of podcast in a
8:20
five pound bag here we go here we go NOP it's right here we got some renders to talk about and show on the Apple Watch
8:27
series 10 screen getting way bigger we're going to talk about the newer cheaper Vision Pro and uh from the Intel
8:36
we got this week they're going to have to make a big old compromise to make that thing cheaper and you're not going to like what we have to say we're going
8:42
to talk about the new features coming to iOS 18 beta2 uh there are some iOS 18 features
8:48
coming to airpods Pro that you may like to hear about and if you're nice we'll tell you about them uh Griffin's going
8:53
to tell us about how new iPhones or I guess current iPhones Griffin are going to work better with third party display
8:59
plays and batteries he's promised to make this topic interesting and fascinating we'll see if that happens
9:05
and and then also I I I couldn't believe that this was a headline this week this is true if you are in Europe you can
9:13
kiss Apple intelligence goodbye it is not coming to you all those cool features they talked about on stage
9:19
nothing you're going to get none of them and some of the other features too are literally not coming to you I I was
9:25
shocked to hear this that's a whole lot of people who are not going to get some of the most uh interesting Marquee features uh before we dive in oh no I
9:33
didn't open this didn't even open it I can't believe it I blame Lis Wallace oh
9:40
let me see here here we go I want to thank all of you for supporting c cloth.
9:46
c cloth. man I don't know what's going on all of a sudden the order started pouring in again they were kind of
9:52
starting to Trickle and and taper off and I was like what is going on have people gotten over Co cloth the best way
9:57
to clean your iPhone your camera your sunglasses your anything with glass
10:02
plastic or metal if you have highend options hundreds a week instead of thousands a week yeah the Amazon told me
10:09
that uh their servers weren't running red hot and puffing out black plumes of smoke that's the first time that's ever happened and I was starting to get
10:14
nervous but everyone's back and I can't thank you enough not only you getting
10:21
yourself I I think definitive definitively the best way to keep any of your stuff absolutely sparkling clean
10:27
but you're helping support the show you're helping support me and rather than go into the whole Spiel again
10:33
because you probably have all heard it a thousand times I'll just leave it at that and say if you would like to grab
10:38
yourself your own cult cloth head on over to C cloth. use code cultcast to
10:43
check out you'll score a free extra carry cloth with orders $20 plus and uh it really is greatly appreciated and it
10:50
does make a difference so I thank you all for your support and um for using coat cloth and telling your friends and
10:56
family about it and making loin Claws and all sorts of other items out of cult
11:01
cloth that really I hadn't anticipated but I'm I'm proud to see that you all are being so creative with them um also
11:09
I just want to get this out of the way up front huge giant fork from Hugo last
11:16
$50 right from the start Hugo the Hugo effect that means we're going to be getting huge donations the entire show
11:24
but this has been a question I've been getting all week cuz no one follows the
11:30
doc like I do you all know that Dr disrespect in the news this week and have you guys been following the story
11:36
at all Lewis or Griffin well I saw one story about it that's it I had no idea
11:42
who he was after like a year of listening to you talk about this person so now I'm glad that I apparently don't have to ever learn ah he's only the
11:48
greatest specimen of a man that exists in our Modern Age but big story out this
11:54
week and I'm not going to get into all of it so hug go ask Hugo last asked me
11:59
not to start in a negative and dark way but eron how disappointed are you with all the doctor disrespect news that came out this week I was a fan of him what
12:05
are your thoughts I know you were a big fan too I still am a big fan huge fan this may be more of an off-topic segment
12:12
I think hio I'm gonna make this an off topic segment because I'm going to think that most of our audience probably doesn't want to hear about Dr disrespect
12:18
but for those of you who follow him and have heard me talk about him before and make videos about him before it it might
12:24
War its own episode because today this was a big week and there's all this controversy and I can't get into it now but that's a great question and I'm glad
12:30
that you brought it up because I've been getting tweets about this and DMS Non-Stop and uh I wasn't sure if I
12:36
should say anything but it might be interesting to talk about it okay sorry enough
12:42
Preamble who's going first oh I think back you I think it might be me back to me back to me leis
12:50
let me go ahead and bring up B browser mode we'll start with this leaked Apple Watch series 10 renders reveal what
12:56
we've been talking about for months weeks possibly years a bigger display a much
13:03
bigger display but it doesn't look like much more than that at least from these CAD renderings so supposed CAD
13:10
renderings of the Apple Watch series 10 leaked online Wednesday re revealing a device with a bigger display than its
13:16
predecessors which we were expecting the renders show Apple's upcoming SmartWatch with up to a 2in display this is
13:23
obviously going to be the bigger model uh and despite the bigger screen the Apple watch
13:29
series 10 will seemingly be smaller than the Apple watch Ultra which I think is
13:35
not going to be a good look if I'm being honest like I hate how thin and dainty the Apple watch has become um which is
13:41
why I go Ultra because I feel like the size of the screen matches the the the
13:47
thickness and just like the the like the utility aesthetic of it it just looks like a giant piece of jewelry uh at this
13:55
point the cat render sourced from insiders uh from industry insiders were leaked by 91
14:01
mobiles I'm doing dubious eyebrow here but seem to cooporate such rumors they
14:07
indicate the Apple Watch series 10 could feature a larger 2-in screen with Slimmer bezels surrounding it I mean
14:13
that's kind of been Theo for all the increases in screen size for comparison
14:19
the current 44mm Apple Watch series 9 packs a 1.7 in screen so some quick math
14:27
on the Fly what is this like an 18% increase in size maybe uh no more like
14:33
yeah actually that might be exactly right like a Rainman with these calculations and if these cads prove
14:38
accurate the Apple Watch series 10 would be even bigger than the Apple watch
14:44
Ultras 1.92 inch OLED panel you know what this means is if they're going to make the
14:51
series 10 uh sorry Siri just started talking to me
14:58
out of blue for no reason of course well you had the tarity to say series is that that that's what it was
15:05
um that must mean that we're going to get a larger Apple watch Ultra display probably in the next iteration as well I
15:12
would think because they're shrinking the buzzel and that's a technology it seems like they'll be able to easily
15:18
bring to the Apple watch uh Ultra Series 3 which I'll probably be in on um let's
15:24
see here apparently the Apple watch's case will measure oh no one cares about this
15:29
uh it puts its physical dimensions between the series 9 and the Apple watch Ultra presumably there will be a smaller
15:35
variant to replace the current 41mm Apple Watch series 9 which would be the one I'd be more interested in because I
15:41
think that big one is just way too thin to look normal on a normal man's wrist
15:49
uh or any wrist aside from maybe Hulk Hogan's um all right no other major
15:55
design changes planned aside from the bigger display and larger dimensions it appears apple does not plan any other
16:01
big design changes on the 2024 Apple watch which isn't that the way it's been
16:06
for like the last five years it's like well the big news is that the band system is also apparently unchanged and
16:12
there were rumors that they would be switching to like maybe a magnetic system which I was kind of always a little skeptical over but uh these
16:19
renders still have the same like uh cutout slot on the top and bottom although they're also saying that um
16:26
they might break compatibility in sizes because like the larger watch is getting you know so much larger compared to the
16:32
original larger watch which is now about the size of like the current small watch like they might they might shift those
16:39
band sizes around so you might still need to buy a whole new set of bands anyways which is um it sounds like this
16:46
thing's going to be more like the size of the ultra like you know just like widthwise or whatever I don't
16:53
know what the dimension is just not height height possibly possibly like I
16:59
imagine a situation where like the uh the larger regular Apple watch is compatible with Apple watch Ultra bands
17:04
well no because then Ultra bands work with regular watches too so yeah that's yeah it doesn't make any sense we'll see
17:11
how it turns out I hope they never change it it would be such a drag to have you know 30 Apple watch bands that
17:17
no longer work with your Apple watch oh they probably will eventually but hopefully no time soon I mean they move
17:23
from lightning to USBC or from the 30 pin to lightning from lightning to USBC invalidating all
17:31
of your accessories so like it's not unprecedented but I don't think if they do it once every 10 years that's that's
17:37
kind of a reasonable time frame but yeah it is still frustrating nonetheless and you know like TC is just salivating at
17:42
the opportunity to make you re all your bands so regardless of whether or not there is a technical reason to do it
17:48
there's certainly a monetary one you okay well then is that a British
17:54
maid talking to you did you hear that I just heard something about your door
17:59
I don't even know what no now now we are participating in Louis's delusions it's just great isn't
18:06
it okay well look let's move on because this story wasn't nearly as interesting
18:12
as I thought it was going to be so let's move along and let's talk about maybe it was the presentation I mean we all know that
18:19
that's not true I dressed up that pig as much as possible I think it might be the writing we need to severely discipline
18:25
Rees Pandy but I know that you will do that Louis on my behalf give an extra Flack for me let's moov it on and talk
18:32
about the cheaper Vision Pro that Apple's working on if they go this way
18:38
Griffin I think it's going to be it's going to be the death nail for the cheaper Vision Pro I don't think
18:45
anyone's gonna go well the good news is it is also a rumor so uh what are we talking about here Apple reportedly wants to launch a cheaper arvr Vision
18:51
headset code named n107 thrilling name as soon as late 2025
18:58
the company's Engineers are struggling to reduce costs without affecting the headset's key features Mark Gman in his
19:04
power on newsletter claims apple is testing narrowing the field of view on the cheaper Vision headset you know
19:10
certainly the displays have got to be one of the most if not the most expensive component inside it supposedly
19:16
the company is also considering requiring a tethered iPhone or Mac for the headset to work the move will help
19:24
Apple remove a lot of chips and components helping reduce the overall component cost
19:29
costs uh I a few people have been suggesting that like you know I I saw some
19:35
person possibly on Twitter just saying like yeah why can't I just plug it into my Vision Pro into my iPhone and have it
19:41
do all the computing power and then I don't have to have a second battery in my pocket but like I I have a hard time
19:48
imagining that working very well first of all because it really limits the lifespan of that headset it requires you
19:56
to have a new phone and simply the fact that like the vision Pro's battery is gigantic like the vision Pro's battery
20:02
is like two or three times bigger than the iPhone itself which is only like you know 40% battery by volume so that thing
20:09
would get terrible battery life and you know after an hour of using it then you suddenly have a dead Vision Pro and a
20:16
dead phone so I can't imagine that being a very good experience whatsoever um so hopefully that's not the route they go
20:22
but on the other hand I have a hard time seeing like what else they could really cut to make it cheaper without making it
20:30
you know kind of a crummy headset that's no better than the meta Quest we already explained this to
20:36
you what what's up ditch the eyesight come
20:41
on that's right that's at least a thousand savings right there if if they uh if they make you tether the iPhone
20:48
and you got the battery you can have one in each back pocket two separate cables coming out of that thing and then then
20:54
you won't be you know thrown off balance by that really heavy battery pack yeah the external display is probably a big
21:00
cost because it's like the fancy lenticular thing but you know it's that still doesn't get you from 3500 to
21:07
$1,500 um anyways well a few years away from launch Apple is also working on the
21:13
Vision Pro successor code named n109 the existing prototype looks similar to the
21:18
current model and features a faster processor improved external cameras both of those would be uh excellent to have
21:23
especially the the cameras like the camera quality is not perfect um apple is exploring ways to make the second gen
21:30
Vision Pro lighter and more comfortable to wear that sounds like it's the product I'm interested in um whether I
21:36
can afford to buy another $3,500 headset just like three years after the first one uh is isn't looking very possibly
21:44
very likely but you know maybe I'll buy the vision Pro 3 a previous report claimed the Vision Pro 2 might not arrive until the end of 2026 so a lot
21:50
could change by then Apple has also quote renewed efforts to develop its AR glasses but they are still in the early
21:57
stages of development and are unlikely to be ready in the next few years remember when proster told us that
22:04
they were making Steve Jobs Heritage addition glasses oh yeah who could
22:10
forget dude I don't know if he just got trolled or what happened but like seeing what you okay Griffin uh it's this fly
22:19
that's flying around office it's just a very aggressive fly yeah that's an Ohio siiz fly too that's that's a buckeye fly
22:27
it's going straight for your corneus I mean seeing that seeing how large The
22:33
Vision Pro is just to make it work I mean the idea that you would ever be able to fit anything like that into the
22:41
size of like glasses that look like glasses that Steve Jobs used to we used to wear it's just totally Preposterous
22:48
like like it just never was going to happen maybe they had a prototype at some point that was in line more with
22:56
like their AR glass or something that we heard rumors about at some point but I don't even think that's probably true I
23:01
just think that that product was just never something that ever had a possibility of
23:07
existing Google imag like a prototyp Google Glass I can
23:12
imagine a feature where like the the the glasses are to the Apple watch what the
23:18
Vision Pro is to the iPhone like the glasses are like the lightweight thing that can do you know the the Casual
23:24
stuff but you know if you want to if you want like the full size app experience if you want to have like basically a
23:29
computer on your face instead of like a little you know notification showing thing then you put on the The Vision
23:35
Pro those are early days for him too like I kind of Wonder it must be hard getting started and you're you're
23:42
getting some rumors that actually turn out to be true but you're having to
23:47
figure out on the fly like who you can trust and who is just trying to troll you because I'm sure you probably get
23:53
like tons of troll comments of people telling you things and it would be very hard to V bet those people if you didn't
24:00
have any experience anyway I was just thinking about that cuz like seeing the Vision Pro I'm like it's a dang computer sitting on your head thing weighs like
24:06
three pounds like there's no way they're going to fit those in the glasses but yeah maybe it was some kind of prototype or something I was just thinking also
24:13
like if they did a long USBC cable that connected to your Mac that wouldn't
24:18
actually be that bad I don't like being Tethered to anything your max seems like it's it's better suited to power a pair
24:26
of you know AR goggles because it has a much bigger battery it has uh a
24:33
connection to your charger like the iPhone if you connected it to your
24:39
iPhone you would also need to connect it to a battery now you have two things in your pocket that you're using at the same time that is just a very uh clunky
24:46
user experience in in my opinion but I think the battery is kind of clunky too like the fact that you have like this
24:52
giant battery pack that you have to have sitting in your back pocket is also kind of like non optimal but in any case they
24:59
got to make it cheaper somehow and taking out the ghost eyes I don't think that's going to cut more than $1,800 off
25:05
the uh production price loose they got do something else and moving all the computing power to another device makes
25:11
sense yeah and the whole thing of like uh the iPhone screen mirroring and Mac
25:17
OS Sequoia right I mean maybe they can do something like that somehow I don't
25:22
know whole thing whole thing is it's very mysterious all these different ways they get things to work
25:28
together agreed but what's not mysterious is we've only got 41 minutes left so I'm I'm going to go ahead and
25:34
kick it kick this thing and keep it moving I'm g go ahead and kick it who's going next I think it's Griffin I'm
25:41
kicking it over to Griffin think it's leis is it Lewis no it's me we have a host sandwich with Aon
25:48
Le there's there's nothing that even M called for yeah that's gross speaking of
25:57
iPhone scen pring Mac OS squ please uh that's one of the things that came out
26:03
in the second beta iOS 18 release which uh came out I guess what Monday this
26:08
week I think bunch of features that weren't in the first beta are in there uh one is
26:13
that iPhone screen mirroring I think we talked about in the past before uh you click on this iPhone mirroring option on
26:19
your Mac's doc you have to be running the Mac OS seoa beta 2 Beta 2 to run
26:26
this feature so you on your Mac you click the iPhone mirroring option whatever I don't know
26:32
if it's an icon or what I've never seen it but uh uh then you can wirelessly mirror your iPhone's display on your Mac
26:39
see all the notifications and things even use apps that are on your iPhone um that whole thing sounds crazy
26:46
and people seem to be flipping out over that on Twitter or I'm sorry X probably
26:52
on Mastadon too although I hav't checked uh let's see nor is anyone else
27:00
Lois they also so here's another one uh they also added support for appside
27:05
loading and thirdparty app stores and iPad OS 18 in the European Union this is
27:12
you know just doing what they already did with the iPhone to comply with the wonderful digital markets act over there
27:18
that's just bringing Justice to iPhone and mac and iPad users everywhere
27:23
absolutely uh let's see uh iOS 18 beta 2 imp improves share play and allows one
27:30
user to control the iPhone or iPad of the person sharing their screen uh there's also a a feature that let you
27:36
like doodle on the screen of of another person so you can like like one the
27:42
example I heard this used for is like for you know you're doing tech support for your for your mom or something right
27:47
and you no you got to click that thing up in the upper right corner you can just like Circle it six times so she
27:52
finally sees it right I can't believe it's current year and we've never gotten a suite of
27:59
uh assist of tools like this like how long have we all have we all been doing
28:05
it for our parents and grandparents and cousins and uncles and it's like we've had no way of doing this you got to just
28:10
like try to describe it yeah yeah yeah yeah so you got to go through everything yeah see the thing up there yeah right
28:16
it's unbelievable yeah it's funny uh let's see uh it also brings for some people it
28:23
it it makes it look like you can use Rich communication services
28:28
finally uh this people in the United States on AT&T T-Mobile and Verizon
28:34
supposedly uh there's an RCS me messaging toggle in the messages app but
28:39
apparently it's not working I don't know I've heard varying reports I've heard people say it does work I it probably depends on you have to have somebody in
28:48
probably have to somebody using a b well no that have to be an Android person wouldn't I don't understand I don't
28:53
understand how why toggle in messages settings that you can able to turn on
28:58
RCS and I think it might be on by default or something like that but I started texting a few of my Android
29:03
friends you know just randomly catching up with a bunch of people to see if I could get RCS to work and like you know
29:09
some of which have I know have newer Android phones but I I couldn't see it working yet so it might be you know a
29:15
thing that like the carriers are rolling out or something I don't really know wait a second wait a second wait wait wait wait a second did you hear that L
29:23
he's got he's got Android friends did you know about this did you know about this leis no one told me this well I had
29:29
my suspicions yeah I I had some suspicions myself we need to take this offline I
29:36
think sorry we all have these friends who aren't as good decision makers as us who
29:42
or you know live live in these unfortunate circumstances it can happen to anybody that's where you're wrong Griffin that's where you're wrong I used
29:50
to have friends like that until I found out and guess what they're not they're not my friends anymore sorry let's go
29:55
ahead and continue with the story we can talk about this offline well one thing about that uh didn't you say something like they there's you know green bubbles
30:03
and blue bubbles are not going away right yeah the RCs messages are still green it just says like you know text
30:10
message and it has like a little Dot and then it says RCS or text message SMS depending it is this is going to allow
30:17
you the the RCs is going to allow you like things doesn't this allow like the you know the Android person will be able
30:22
to see you typing and they'll have like read indicators and it'll also
30:29
like higher quality pictures that AR horribly compressed okay yeah so it's it's basically all about just making
30:37
interplatform text messaging better uh and you said something about they they're shown up as gray or
30:43
something now what no that that's that's the same they like uh people always say green bubbles and blue bubbles but
30:49
people like kind of forget that um in the messages app no matter which one you're using only your bubbles show up
30:56
as blue or green the other person always show up as either light gray or dark gray and that hasn't changed either no
31:01
that's what you meant okay I got it let's see uh there's now you have to
31:07
tell me about this a new plus button in the bottom left corner of the passwords app that lets you quickly save new
31:13
credentials to the iCloud keychain uh I I got to say I'm excited about this apple passwords app I haven't tried it
31:20
yet uh I'm very curious to see if it's as full featured as you need it to be
31:25
but sounds like it's going to be have you have you checked it out yet oh yeah you know I've been I've never used um either of the third party servic
31:32
as like one password or I forget what the other one was like I've always been all in on iCloud keychain so the fact
31:39
and it's always been there but like it's always been buried in settings somewhere so it's always been a giant pain to
31:45
actually save your passwords and look them up if it doesn't suggest it automatically so hopefully the passwords app will get more people switching to
31:51
that system because it's really easy long overdue too long overdue yeah
31:57
uh let's see iOS 18 also the beta second beta also a new power button in the control
32:05
center but before like I guess previously It could only be activated with a a tap now in beta 2 you can long
32:14
you need to long press the button before you slide to power off which I guess makes sense you don't want to just
32:19
accidentally shut down your iPhone yeah it it's right under where your thumb is as soon as you activate control center
32:24
so it was really easy to tap before Oh my God that sounds it's like I mean I hope Tim chewed someone out of that you
32:31
need to fix this right now I hear they walk with a limp let's see uh and final thing we got
32:39
here in this story uh Apple apparently improved the look of color tinted icons
32:44
which some people have criticized which I think is a a slight understatement some people have just you know ragged
32:51
the crap out of uh I got to say they do look pretty weird I mean some of the things that people post online it's like
32:57
you know just it doesn't look good you did a fine how-to on how to do
33:05
it the right way right you should probably drop that in the show notes yeah I'll put a link there as a YouTube
33:10
video as well G gives you some tips on how to make a custom home screen that doesn't look ugly that should have been the headline
33:18
real quick we can change it real quick Griffin I know you're using the beta the only one amongst us who is has it gotten
33:24
any better like is it more stable now it seems but ad I haven't spent a lot of time on
33:30
my phone this week to try it out okay let me know when it's time for me to install it I I still think that you
33:36
should most people should just wait until the public beta yeah that's kind of what I'm thinking too but I was just curious okay
33:42
let's move on to some interesting iOS 18 features coming to your airpods pro Louis oh God more more more more yeah
33:49
actually this is exciting this is a story from uh Mac Rumors they did a little Roundup of all the ways that airpods Pro are going to get better once
33:56
iOS 18 comes out later this year uh let's see first one we heard about before obviously head gestures I I'm
34:03
very excited about this like somebody calls you and you can uh answer the call or decline the call just by shaking your
34:10
head you know shake your head left or right to say no or yes to to answer that sounds kind of cool sure uh Siri
34:17
interactions will also allow users to answer or dismiss calls I don't I don't quite understand what that means
34:24
interact with messages manage notifications and more all without spee speaking it's not going to work anyway
34:29
Louis so to dwell here too long I I I actually don't remember hearing about
34:36
that uh and I don't know exactly what that means I I guess like what you it if it says oh one of those things where
34:42
says oh you've got a notification you want me to read it you could just go like this yeah I imagine that it allows
34:47
you that's part of the head gestures feature so like yeah if Siri asks you a yes or no question you can shake your head yes or no just like answering a
34:54
call yeah I mean that could be kind of Handy especially if your phone's like not in front of you sir doesn't ask that
35:00
many questions of me and almost everyone I Ask of it you're not answer that I
35:06
don't want yeah this will be great because we have more people wandering on airports going like this like crazy
35:13
you'll think that they're talking to you which they're not I just can't wait yeah let's see um voice isolation coming to
35:20
airpods Pro it's just like the iPhone feature that already exists uh you know makes it voice clear when you're talking
35:25
to someone outside or whatever if they're in a loud and busy environment or whatever uh this is going to allow
35:32
airpads Pro to cut down on loud background sounds like wind crowd noises stuff like that uh machine learning will
35:39
machine learning there it is Will distinguish these sounds block out any ambient noise and prioritize your voice
35:45
so that it comes through clearly that sounds good yeah that one might actually be
35:51
useful this one I wasn't that excited about personalized spatial audio for gaming mostly because a i I'm not really
35:58
that much of a gamer and B I haven't really been that bowled over by the
36:03
personalized spatial audio stuff really but oh man I love it it's unbelievable I
36:08
mean sometimes it's so real that I actually take my airpods off to make
36:14
sure that I'm not just listening to to the audio like from my iPad or from my TV it's so convincing sometimes that it
36:22
makes you it makes you feel like oh I must not have routed the audio correctly uh I I have that happen to me more often
36:29
with the home pods that still happens to me like at least once a month where something in a horror movie skinns
36:35
around the edge of my like way off in the corner of my room and I'm like a oh it's not real yeah H let's see uh
36:43
so what's this personalized spal audio with dynamic head tracking which that's the part of it
36:49
that like okay well so I turn my head and the audio stays where it was or whatever I don't know that's the part
36:54
that I don't find all that super compelling like with the TV but uh dynamic head tracking is going to be
37:00
available for gaming ac across airpods third generation airpods Pro and airpods Max delivering immersive audio customers
37:08
have come to love customers not me when listening to music or watching movies and shows I mean it's just fine whatever
37:14
not it's coming to games I'm sure gamers are G to love it right because like that's maybe even more immersive audio
37:21
than a movie I don't know maybe not I mean it will be nice I mean for hardcore
37:27
Gamers who hardcore Gamers game on Mac we all know that I and they were airpods
37:33
yeah absolutely so this will bring that Dynamic Sound experience to them and
37:38
we'll give them the edge in like Call of Duty you know so when you're playing sudoku on your uh on your iPhone it'll
37:44
be super immersive audio right h i was I am excited about this one granular
37:51
adaptive audio control I don't know if you use this but uh second generation airpods Pro have
37:56
this adaptive audio feature that's called adaptive noise control adjust sound and active noise cancellation in
38:03
response to changes your environment so for instance like I have that turned on
38:08
I I walk out of my office I get my airpods on and uh I by either my wife
38:13
starts talking to me or I start talking to her airpod whatever the podcast or whatever I'm listening to goes down and
38:20
so I can hear her have you experienced this yeah and I often times don't want
38:28
use the uh I forget what feature they call it uh the noise control actually I don't
38:35
know if that's it but when you're trying to noise cancellation is this the same
38:41
thing does this have anything to do with noise cancellation well it's it's all about letting audio through when but letting
38:49
you hear okay right so it does have to do with your yeah it has to do with turning the
38:55
audio level up and down in the airpods so uh right now it's All or Nothing uh
39:01
but in iOS 18 Apple added a customized adaptive audio menu so you can slide uh
39:07
left or right to adjust the thing to you know H like basically the Threshold at which it I I think it's a threshold at
39:13
which it kicks in or maybe it's how much it tamps down the the audio that you're listening yes so you can get like a
39:19
little bit more ambient noise in the mix sometimes it's way too thick it's like
39:25
you feel like you're walking through space there's like not a single sound and I like to have a little bit of
39:30
ambient noise coming through see uh and uh this final thing this is I guess
39:37
you'd have to call this a rumor this is supposedly a hearing aid mode is coming I don't think this has been confirmed
39:42
right I believe this is still a rumor there in fact so yeah the the Mac Rumors
39:48
uh sorry yeah Mac Rumors story uh cites once again mark kman from Bloomberg Ace
39:54
reporter uh supposedly airpods Pro will gain a new hearing aid mode with iOS 18
40:00
later this year uh you know it's going to make it better than the conversation boost feature which already exists but
40:08
uh yeah we'll see I I know leander's excited about that he he wrote a big
40:15
article about how how you can use them as uh uh hearing aids basically already
40:20
um this it sounds like this is just going to be apple like basically I don't know maybe boost in this feature and
40:28
sort of saying okay now this now you can use these as hearing aids like just almost like rebranding it like like
40:34
these things already kind of exist but like the passwords app that they had to bust out of iCloud keychain now they're
40:40
going to take these things and say okay well you know these would be a reasonable hearing aid substitute if you
40:46
don't want to pay you know $3,000 for hearing aids or you just want to hear better in a a noisy bar I mean I've I've
40:53
used earbuds that could do that kind of stuff airpods can that kind of thing already but it sounds like they're going
40:59
to highlight it as a hearing aid substitute yeah better than buying an actual hearing aid those things are
41:04
expensive I here like maybe you're not quite to hearing a level you just want to hear better you know or maybe you're
41:11
just a Avid EES dropper like Lander K is which I think might be more of his interest in this feature I I I've never
41:18
actually uh tried this in a bar with airpods Pro but uh I remember trying these things called IQ buds a while back
41:25
and it was crazy you put in and somebody would be you you
41:30
know you switch it on and suddenly like this you're in this really loud they
41:36
demoed it in a really loud bar really loud and it's like cone of silence I
41:41
could hear the person talking wow you know clearly it was it was really astonishing quite an impressive demo and
41:47
this was I don't know eight or 10 years ago I think so it's more than just
41:52
making things louder so that you can hear things it's like focused audio
41:57
exactly okay so it's like a focused a audio targeting system so allows you to hear certain things better but not
42:03
everything yeah it was it was amazing and and you know I mean maybe that kind of thing you can already do with airpods
42:09
Pro I just haven't ever bothered to try it I mean I I I just yell I don't even have airpods bro I I say hey what what I
42:18
do that a lot I don't even have airpods I only have one airpod what I don't know what happened
42:24
to the other one he has airpod something yeah do you have a case for it it's just the one I do yeah but just the left one
42:31
oh boy is it a pro or a yeah it's just a it's an original airpod amateur well
42:38
yeah Pros aren't worth it in my opinion I mean I at least for me I and again I love them not to go back into the whole
42:44
Spiel but I hate having the tips man don't want the tips I like the regular airpods just fit my ear holes so
42:51
exquisitly I I can't imagine having anything else in my ears I I need the ones with the tips because my my right
42:58
ear is apparently slightly larger than my left ear so when I have regular airpods in like I keep I keep bumping up
43:04
like the the right one again to like keep it in there my ear canals have perfect uniformity maybe I don't know if
43:11
that's normal or not but I mean hey look each of us have our gifts right okay uh anything
43:19
else oh I think that's it okay that is absolutely it like Lou do you mind if me and Griffin talk in this episode or you
43:25
want to just I know I wish you would unbelievable uh all right uh before
43:31
we carry on let me just plug our last episode of C cast off topic I mean look
43:38
it's in your if you're it's in your feed you got it for free I mean it's not going to cost you anything I mean it
43:44
could cost you something if you wanted it to you could send us five bucks Fork
43:49
it over at support. thecast doccom we had a really fun episode we did a uh an episode on The Wilhelm scream which is
43:56
like this ubiquity Hollywood sound effect that I didn't even know exist and kudos to Lewis for bringing this one up
44:04
and it's this this sound effect that is used across the soundscape of like every movie like you've ever seen and once you
44:11
hear it actually this might be a reason you shouldn't listen to the episode CU once you hear it you can't unhear it
44:16
like you are going to hear this G darn sound effect everywhere you go and it's everywhere I went and watched um Return
44:24
of the King in theaters I think last week or the week before cuz they're re-releasing all of them in theaters for
44:29
the 20th anniversary of the movie and it was it was awesome we saw the extended edition 4 hours in the theater God we
44:36
ate like two large buckets of popcorn during this time um which I'm still
44:41
recovering the bucket after you right yeah to purpose and uh and I we were
44:48
sitting there watching Return of the King and legless is like jumping all around like he does shooting arrows up
44:55
and down all these elephants and like that battle scene at gundor and uh and I
45:01
heard somebody fall off the elephant and I'm not going to make the sound here but I was like I was like a no way we were
45:06
just talking about this and and all of a sudden there it was in the movie it's like it's almost like a
45:11
Hollywood uh Movie Maker meme they use it as like a joke and people don't even
45:17
know that it's there and it's there everywhere so if you haven't checked it out it's uh it should be in your feed go listen to it and then when you're
45:23
done Fork it just Fork it over equip being a cheap skin for is this too is this too aggressive
45:29
of a pitch do I need to work on this I tried guilting I tried being nice little intimidating now I'm just yeah I'm I'm
45:37
insulting people I'm trying to see which approach is going to be the most effective I hav haven't figured it out
45:42
yet if you want to show your favorite tech podcasters a little bit of love every month it's only $5 a month dude
45:48
that's not going to work what if their favorite tech podcasters aren't us you just sold another
45:53
show see we we got to be careful all right right uh I guess I just can't
45:59
imagine a world in which that's the case no you're right you're right at least you're not brandishing a weapon
46:04
or I mean you kind of unveiled my next strategy if I see anyone dude you meet
46:12
cultcast fans in the strangest places I I not to go into too much of a tangent I
46:18
won't because we got to be done in 20 minutes but I've had I've had instances of people who have recognized me by my
46:25
voice and oh we're like airon and I turn around and it's like somebody who listens to the cultcast and and one of
46:32
the wildest ones was uh cultcast listener Michael well I presume he's
46:37
still listening it's been probably a couple years I was getting off of the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland and I
46:45
was talking to a friend of mine and I don't know if he recognized me from my voice or or seeing me on video
46:52
or something it was probably my voice though because most of our audience listens they don't actually ever watch which is probably the smarter choice and
46:59
I was getting off and I hear someone go airon and I turn around and he's like are you airon from the C Cast I'm I'm
47:04
trying to trying to remember exactly what they said I was like yeah I was like did you know I was going to be here because we had talked about going to
47:11
digital land in a previous show and I mean he was you're looking around for Authority yeah I was like wav the security guard like this you know I was
47:17
like point to this guy uh and and he didn't he had no idea
47:23
in fact he in fact to be honest he's like I haven't listened to the show in months which I don't know I mean clearly that's
47:29
probably not true but and I was like this is unbelievable that you in this
47:35
crowd of people I'm getting off of a ride walking and talking with a friend of mine and you just happen to have
47:41
either heard me or saw me anyway it's very strange I even imagine saying that to someone hey are you this guy heard on
47:47
a podcast I would imagine if you're wrong that would be the most embarrassing thing in your life super I
47:54
don't think he said are you the guy from the podcast he he he was like he was like airon I think that that was kind of
47:59
like how he started it and that wouldn't be too bad right cuz people I mean first of all if you said that name they wouldn't even know what what you were
48:04
talking about they wouldn't even know you're were talking about a person yeah they're assume it's like they might think you're looking for a restaurant or
48:09
something you know but uh but yeah it I mean and I've done that before haven't
48:15
you like seen somebody that you've seen in a movie or heard on a podcast and
48:21
then approach them have you guys never done that I've I live in Ohio no one else lives
48:27
run into somebody I think I've only done it one time okay George teai he saw George teai what was he
48:34
doing uh coming coming down the hall from a restroom at a restaurant in San
48:41
Francisco and I ran into him he was like happy hour I ran into him I'm like what
48:46
the are are you George the guy and let me guess he turned to you and he said oh
48:54
my oh he was he he was a little more like where's the
49:00
security he was he was not super excited that I uh really called him by name
49:07
yeah he's George Decay I mean it's got to happen all the time maybe I pronounced it wrong I don't know I might
49:13
have just said hey are you that guy from Star Trek I don't think I'd said that but check off is that you that's
49:20
probably what you said he's like insult
49:28
all right look we got to move on see this is what you're this is what you get in cultcast off topic we should just literally edit these parts out and just
49:34
move them move all the fun Parts we'll just keep cultcast completely dry and
49:39
speaking app fun and if there's ever like a part where we laugh we just literally cut it out and just shift it into into off topic uh let's see I think
49:48
we only have two stories left all right Griffin send it to
49:54
you for this story I'm not even going to read the online Apple will improve
49:59
support for thirdparty iPhone displays and batteries later this year for uh repairs third party and independent
50:06
repair shops can repair iPhones using non-apple displays and batteries however due to Apple's Parts pairing and lack of
50:12
relevant data features like true tone and battery health monitoring uh don't work with third party components Apple
50:19
says this will change later in 20124 and that'll make the process of calibrating a used part work exactly the same as a
50:26
new part uh quote Apple will allow consumers to activate true tone with thirdparty parts
50:32
to the best performance that can be provided similarly for thirdparty Batteries Apple says it will show
50:37
battery health metrics if you replace it with like a cheaper cheaper one you buy off Amazon apple is also making it easier to
50:45
buy official Parts placing component orders on Apple's self-service repair store will no longer require you to
50:52
enter a device serial number that's how it currently works so you can only really buy a replacement part for like a
50:58
customer's iPhone if you have their serial number but uh if you don't require that at all then you know all these repair shops can buy the most
51:05
common parts they need in advance and that could you know lead to faster repairs as well in a bid to thwart the
51:11
use of stolen components Apple will extend activation lock to individual iPhone Parts if a stolen component is
51:19
used during repair your iPhone will not calibrate it so that could uh
51:24
disincentivize the the market of third party or sorry disincentivize the market
51:29
of people who steal phones because right now if they steal your phone you know they can't resell it as working but they can strip it for parts and sell those
51:35
online uh this will hopefully put an end to that as well so just a quick series
51:41
of um announcements Apple's making to uh improve repairability which is something they get a lot of flack for I was
51:48
thinking I think the right to repair people will finally be satisfied but we all know they'll find something else to
51:54
whine about this is just one check box they're going to move on to something no I'm just joking but I was just thinking
52:02
you know people dump on Apple all the time for being unrepairable how about Tesla I never hear anyone talk about
52:09
Tesla like you can't get your Tesla repaired anywhere besides an official Tesla repair shop and how often do you
52:16
need to repair your car I imagine it's probably more often than you need to repair your phone and Tesla has a
52:22
complete Monopoly but I never hear anyone talk about that I maybe I just not involved in the right circles that
52:28
could certainly be part of it but I just find that to be interesting it's like I always hear about this in regards to Apple it's always Apple they don't care
52:35
about Samsung they don't care about LG they don't care about any of the company Tesla it's just Apple needs to make
52:41
these things more available I really do wonder when I'm looking at like this this shippable repair kit that Apple
52:47
will send you I'm like how many of these things are they actually sending out every year like how many 70 pounds or
52:54
something right I think it actually does weigh pound I think it does actually weigh that and how many people are actually going to go through with this
53:00
to repair that themselves and save themselves the $5 or whatever you know the savings is but you know I am I am a
53:07
fan of repairing things so I think it is good to um make things repairable I don't know if you guys saw that white
53:13
paper talk about a tangent um I won't go too deep on this one that white paper from Apple about making their products
53:19
have longevity and how they build things to last and how like their products have like the highest resale value of uh in
53:25
the in the phone space for used products and last forever and still have a resale
53:30
price did you guys see that white paper that they that they put out this week saw they published it but I didn't have time to read it but tell all the most
53:36
interesting parts from it yeah well I just skimmed it but one of the things I did think was interesting is
53:43
that with their efforts to make things last longer I mean they're gluing
53:48
everything together but they reduced the instances of like water damage to phones
53:54
by like 75% or some astronomical number they reduced the amount of um instances
54:00
of warranty uh repair for phones in an out of warranty by like 45% there's all
54:06
these huge numbers and this is like part of the tradeoff right like they do
54:11
things to make through your phone last longer but those things also make your phones harder to repair because they're making them more robust and stiffer and
54:18
filling them with glue and whatever they have to do to like make sure that water can't egress inside which is obviously a
54:24
big one remember I mean phone water used to be the death of phones I remember one time uh I was at a bar with my wife and
54:33
she accidentally or somebody accidentally spilled a beer into her purse right I don't even remember how it happened phone was in there phone is
54:39
toast you could send a phone into the bottom of a brewery barrel and leave it
54:46
there for a year now and when it comes out it will probably still work I mean that you virtually never hear about
54:51
phones needing any kind of repair anymore because of water egress and you
54:56
hear and more often you hear stories of people who had ditched their phones in a lake and some it gets found a month
55:02
later and it like still works it's unbelievable still charged batter is even still charged so uh it's a good
55:07
time to be alive okay wrapping up with the story I shouldn't have wrapped up with the story because it's like a major
55:13
bummer for anyone living in the EU but I I at least wanted to like bring this up
55:19
uh according to uh Bloomberg Apple will not be including any of the AI features
55:29
that they promoted on stage in the EU what are there like 27 countries in the EU EU does anyone actually know it's
55:36
impossible to know for sure but because of the I almost wanted to call the Digital
55:42
Millennium Copyright Act that's obviously not it uh digital markets act the digital markets act thank you
55:49
because of requirements in the digital markets act or reportedly because of the
55:54
requirements in the markets is Apple is blaming the dma but I I have my
55:59
skepticism on that I was just thinking the same thing like who knows what their actual intentions are
56:07
but apparently because of what Apple says are heighten regulations that they
56:13
are just not going to roll out any of the Apple intelligence features to anyone in the U you just will not get
56:18
them which of course is a major bummer I mean like these are like the big features of iOS 18 the ones they spent
56:24
the most time touting on stage ones that shot their stock price up after having gone sideways for two years finally
56:32
broke them through the ceiling and and made their stock price go uh even higher and put College back on the menu for my
56:39
kids and it's not just the AI features uh let's see here iPhone mirroring and
56:46
shareplay screen sharing uh let's see here is also going to be part of the mix
56:51
that will not will not make it I don't know if those surfaces are going to be uh diminished in some way or if they're
56:58
going to be completely completely removed but I think they're going to be blocked uh from Apple quote uh we are
57:06
concerned that the interop interoperability requirements of the dma could force us to compromise the
57:11
Integrity of our products in RA in ways that risk user privacy and data security
57:17
Apple said in a statement uh the EU dma forces uh big technology company
57:23
platforms to abide by a long list of dues and don'ts tech services are prohibited from favoring their own
57:28
offering offerings over this is from the Bloomberg article by the way uh own offerings over those of Rivals they're
57:34
barred from combining personal data across their different Services blocked from using
57:39
information um that they collect from third party Merchants to to compete
57:44
against them I feel like I butchered that sentence I'm not going back I'm G to keep barreling forward a long long
57:49
sentence and now have to allow users to download apps from rival platforms okay so we know all that um
57:56
as part of the new rules the EU has designated six of the biggest tech companies as quote unquote Gatekeepers
58:04
powerful platforms that require stricter scrutiny uh in additional in addition to Apple that requires or that list
58:10
includes Microsoft Google Facebook and probably some others since that's only some of them so just want to give you a
58:16
heads up like that would be a major bummer man if I lived in the EU I mean
58:23
I'd be curious to hear from you all if you care or not maybe you don't care maybe the AI features weren't impressive
58:30
to you but I thought that they looked pretty cool um but Teddy
58:35
Zaki in the chat I freaking hate how EU handles Tech stuff I get privacy but we
58:41
tend to be overly paranoid well I think also I think some of their intentions are good but the results are not what
58:48
they expected because when you have laws that are this complex you don't
58:53
necessarily know how people are going to react to them or companies are going to react to them but I I also think that
58:59
Apple might be trying to use this these features to as a point of Leverage to
59:05
remove something that maybe they actually don't need to remove this is all pure speculation so please don't come after me TC and legal team um in
59:13
order to build up some kind of outrage among people who live in the EU to to
59:18
will start contacting lawmakers to maybe ease the restrictions that Apple has
59:23
placed have has had placed upon them because of regulators who let's be honest are
59:29
probably Android users anyway so I have to imagine that's the case because like the the dma says nothing
59:35
about oh Apple has to enable iPhone mirroring on Mac and PC not just the Mac
59:40
like that's that's not in the dma at all there's no reason why they're I I I struggle to imagine how a read of the
59:48
dma would prohibit them from implementing Apple intelligence or especially iPhone mirroring and screen
59:54
sharing like that that's n sensical to me it feels like that's a that's a spiteful move on Apple's part
1:00:00
Christopher Gavin from the chat real fast is saying they're not complex they're vague and I think that's problem that's I was gon to say they are vague
1:00:07
they they're all these weird rules that can be interpreted any way that these people want and they have this
1:00:13
ridiculous like what's the fine they can Levy a fine of like 10% of Apple's
1:00:18
worldwide revenues that is insane is it really that high wow yeah but it it's
1:00:24
it's weird to me like that uh if if apple is scared of of breaking if
1:00:30
apple is scared of that fine being levied against them why would they drag their feet on all every possible
1:00:35
technicality and loophole they can regarding to the App Store but then be all tiptoe and careful about pulling
1:00:41
iPhone screen mirroring like if if if that's the logic that Apple's like scared about getting that fine and that
1:00:46
they're you know just trying to follow the letter of the law then like they're not even acting consistently between those two major areas maybe a little bit
1:00:54
of both going on yeah yeah yeah and uh but I mean you you said there's no way you can interpret it that way right but
1:00:59
well if they launched that feature iPhone screen mirroring what's to stop those uh bureaucrats from saying oh well
1:01:06
that must work with uh Windows PC too they talk just like that by the way
1:01:13
that was a pretty good impression I thought maybe you were secretly from
1:01:18
Germany yeah it's just I I can totally see why they can
1:01:23
say you know what they're going to they're going to screw with us on this too so forget it and and that was my first thought was like this is Apple
1:01:29
saying hey you know what we're just going to put some heat put some heat on the EU uh the EU Gatekeepers we're going
1:01:38
to try to whip up consumer outrage and
1:01:43
get people writing letters and sending emails to the the EU leaders uh and then
1:01:49
I started thinking about gee if none of the Apple intelligence stuff comes to
1:01:55
the you I mean that's a speaking of vague I mean Apple intelligence is kind
1:02:01
of a vague term right I mean how many of the features that that are like the main
1:02:07
features of these phones are built on that I mean how where's the dividing line is
1:02:13
what I'm saying between apple intelligence and the Machine learning like that's already on the iPhone
1:02:18
everything in the first hour of the WWDC keynote is still coming like that's not part of Apple intelligence Apple intelligence is all like the second half
1:02:24
of the keynote that's like summarization image playground smarter Siri you know that the stuff that only runs on the
1:02:30
iPhone 15 Pro yeah so but still a lot of cool stuff I got really
1:02:38
uh like a little bit confused about where the dividing line is I mean are
1:02:43
are you sure that some of the the things coming to the the messages app won't be
1:02:50
described as I well there are Apple intelligence features in the messages app right uh the there are machine
1:02:56
learning features in them well wait um if you're what Apple what the features that
1:03:02
Apple describes as machine learning like what we you know joked about just earlier this episode those are coming to every every phone but like the Apple
1:03:08
intelligence features is like image playground specifically and I guess that's in messages and the writing tools which is the writing tools well look
1:03:15
okay it doesn't matter because we're out of time we got to be
1:03:20
wrapping this show up right now I got to be walking out the door so we're going to go ahead and leave that conversation there you know what the cult Castle we
