hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:10
just a couple simple ways that you can
0:12
make Mac OS 10 more like iOS so Mac OS
0:16
10 lion brought a lot of iOS style
0:18
features over to the desktop interface
0:22
and while not everybody liked these
0:24
features there are some people that
0:25
really do like them and enjoy them as do
0:27
I myself so the first thing we're going
0:29
to talk about is actually a lock screen
0:33
for your Mac and this can be found by
0:35
going to the Mac App Store actually so
0:37
if you select the Apple logo menu and go
0:40
to App Store you can actually search for
0:43
this program in the App Store and it's
0:45
called lock
0:47
screen and from here you should see it
0:49
here it's
0:50
199 and what it does is it brings the
0:53
lock screen to your Mac so you can see
0:55
the shortcut for lock is command l so if
0:58
I select command L on the keyboard you
1:00
can see that brings me to this lock
1:01
screen and right now I just have this
1:03
plain wallpaper up you can set this to
1:04
whatever you want and you can slide the
1:06
keys on your keyboard to unlock so I
1:09
have it set up so that if I slide from
1:10
shift all the way across to shift it
1:13
unlocks my
1:14
keyboard and you can configure this by
1:16
going off to the lock screen menu and
1:19
selecting preferences and this will let
1:22
you set a pass pattern between three and
1:24
12 characters that you can slide across
1:26
your keyboard when you want to unlock so
1:29
that's kind of neat and the next thing
1:30
we're going to talk about is
1:32
notifications so with iOS 5 there's that
1:34
new notification animation that whole
1:36
new style of the notification where it
1:38
just kind of spins down from the top and
1:42
just kind of rolls back up once the
1:43
notification is finished and you can
1:46
actually achieve this with an
1:47
application called grow and this is
1:50
available in the Mac App Store again for
1:52
$1.99 but if you go to the download
1:55
section on the page you can see some
1:58
older versions of it which will also
2:00
work on the Mac as well which are free
2:03
and you can get grow grow.in and of
2:06
course the link to this will be below
2:07
the video so a lot of different
2:09
applications support grow and with it
2:11
you can display a lot of different types
2:13
of notifications so once you install
2:16
grow the next thing you're going to want
2:17
to
2:18
do is go to this page on Deviant Art
2:21
which of course I will again have the
2:23
link below the video that you can access
2:24
that and you can download this iOS 5
2:27
notification setup for grow so this not
2:30
only replicates the look of iOS 5
2:33
notifications but also replicates the
2:35
animation of them too so if you go over
2:37
here and select download file it'll
2:40
download and then you can go up to your
2:41
downloads button right here and open up
2:44
this folder and in here all you have to
2:47
do is open up in this case the white
2:50
grow style and I can just install this
2:54
so once grow is running I can go up to
2:56
the little paw in the menu bar and
2:57
select open grow preferences and from
3:00
here I can set up how grow displays and
3:02
I can go under dis the displays Tab and
3:05
select the default style to be ios5
3:08
notification white and as you can see it
3:10
out on the corner here you can get a
3:12
little preview of exactly how the
3:15
notification will look and my last tip
3:17
is a pretty simple one but it's still
3:19
handy if you go up to the app logo menu
3:21
and select system preferences and you go
3:24
under the doc
3:26
tab you might want to uncheck show
3:28
indicator lights for open applications
3:31
so getting rid of your indicator lights
3:32
actually makes your dock just look a
3:34
little bit more like the dock on iOS
3:36
where you never see any indicator lights
3:38
of any kind that's just a thing that you
3:40
can do to more closely integrate the Mac
3:42
OS 10 and iOS experience so there you go
3:44
there's some easy things that you can do
3:46
to make Mac OS 10 more like iOS if
3:49
anything that you'd like to see me do a
3:50
how on make sure to send me an email I
