Hello and welcome to the Coldcast, the best dish hourong Apple conversation you're going to hear all week long. I'm
0:08
your host, Lyanna Katy. Uh, and I'd like to welcome to the show Griffin coming in
0:14
from Ohio. Welcome, Griffin. Good evening. I I never know whether you're going to do me or Lewis first. That seems to be very arbitrary.
0:20
I like to keep the suspense. Keep us on edge. Who are you? Exactly. I know. Yeah, exactly. All
0:27
right. and Lewis Lewis Wallace coming in from about two blocks away. Welcome, Lewis.
0:32
Hey, all the awe has dropped. All right, so um this week we're going
0:38
to talk exclusively about a super exciting rumor about the updated Vision Pro going to get more unified memory,
0:45
right? Yeah. No, just kidding. Seems like something else happened this
0:50
week. Yeah. What was it? Um Oh, that's right. Apple door dropping event. M yeah. So, I
0:57
think we're going to be talking about that a little bit. Uh we should be talking about the iPhone 17, the AirPods
1:02
Pro 3, the Apple Watch Series 11, the Ultra 3, the SE, plus the part of the
1:08
show that everyone's really looking forward to, our prediction results. Like how we how we did. Oh my god, I couldn't even bear to look
1:13
at them. Yeah, I kept hearing things like, "Oh, there's another one."
1:19
Right. Oh, were you thinking about it while we're doing the show? But yeah, it drives me baddy. Oh dear. So, I didn't even think about
1:26
it at all. Oo, I'm probably not going to do very well.
1:31
Oh, no. You didn't look either, right? No. Yeah, me neither. Devastating.
1:37
Anyway, all right, let's move on. Sponsor. I'd like to thank our sponsor for this week, Clay My Mac from Mac Paw.

3:01
clmmy.comcast. And we'll have this link in the show notes and on YouTube. So, thanks uh
3:07
MacPaul for sponsoring this week's uh CCS. Let's get right into it. Let's talk
3:13
about the most surprising thing that Apple revealed um
3:19
at the oil dropping event which is the super slim iPhone air and Griffin is going to tell us all about it.
3:24
Yes. So this is the rumored slim iPhone. We were right on the name. It is iPhone Air although it is not iPhone 17 Air.
3:30
It's just iPhone Air. I think a friend of the show, Sam Henry Gold, did some spelunking on the Apple website and
3:36
actually found a few references like in the HTML code where they they refer to like images and alt text as iPhone 17
3:43
Air. So, so weird. Why did they try? It might have been a last minute marketing decision there. But, um, yeah,
3:48
the iPhone Air, it measures just 5.6 millime thick, making it substantially
3:54
thinner than current models. It has a titanium body rather than aluminum probably for like the additional
4:01
structural rigidity to make it that thinner much thinner. And they they still say it's like the strongest or no
4:07
I forget exactly the superlative they used but either the strongest or like most durable iPhone they've ever made
4:13
like this although it's so thin like you know we we'll see how how how bend gate
4:19
uh affects this phone but um yeah it's super durable. For comparison, the
4:24
iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25 millimeters thick, while the base iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are
4:32
7.8 millimeters. Even the iPhone 6 measured 6.9 millimeters thin. So,
4:38
and that was the previous thinnest one. Is that right? Yeah, that was the previous thinnest one. So, this is substantially thinner
4:43
than like the previous thinnest. I've seen a It's about as thin as a an old iPod Nano, right? One of the old
4:50
Nanos. Yeah. the last Nano they made that was kind of like a tiny iPhone. I really want one of those, by the way. But yeah,
4:57
it's it's about as thin as that. It's not quite as thin as that, but it's about as thin as that. Okay. I think I've got one with a
5:02
swelling battery that I can sell you with a bunch of other Apple junk for your collection. Sure. Sure. Um, so this model gets
5:10
ceramic shield on both the front and the back. Um, and they have a new ceramic shield 2 that they say is like what,
5:17
four times more scratch resistant. Uh, and that and the ceramic shield 2 is
5:23
on the front. So, the glass isn't going to be as scratchy. Uh, internally, basically, the entire
5:30
phone and all of its components are in what they call the iconic plateau. So,
5:38
have they ever did they use that term before? I I don't remember hearing that, but maybe they did. Plateau as a term is
5:43
what they like internally used to refer to that bump. And I think in some like
5:48
in like the the big long document that shows all the exact precise dimensions and specs that they send to like camera
5:55
makers or no case makers, they refer to it as the plateau, but it wasn't really something that they used publicly
6:01
before. But I feel like this goes along with dynamic island and all these other
6:07
new terms. Like Apple wants to give a term to everything to avoid it being stuck with a negative name,
6:14
which I I I think Yeah. like Notch. Notch is the canonical examp.
6:19
Yeah. So now it's the plateau of the dynamic island. Feels classy, doesn't it? It's a plateau.
6:25
Well, it's not just a plateau. It's called the iconic plateau. Yeah. So basically the entire phone
6:31
lives in there. I mean, that was the open question. We were like, well, you know, on the Pro phones, the camera bump is going to be bigger, probably because
6:37
they have some fancy camera stuff going on in there. But why is it on the 17 Air? That doesn't make any sense. Well, this is the answer. The entire phone is
6:43
in there and protrudes out a little bit. It's insane, isn't it? It's it's amazing militarization. I mean, that was a
6:49
bigger surprise from this whole thing. I think that they managed to cram the, you know, the entire guts, the computing
6:55
guts of the phone into the into the the plateau. It's crazy. And then rest of it is just battery. Battery and screen.
7:02
I think it's an open question as to where the taptic engine is because that usually works better on the bottom half
7:08
of the phone where your hand is so that you feel more of the vibration there. I don't know if we know that yet or maybe somebody hasn't dissected Apple's like
7:15
3D imagery of it yet. But um yeah, another question people had was like, well, you know, if the camera bar is
7:20
sticking out that far, is the phone going to be really topheavy? Because that would be kind of uncomfortable to have. But I mean, I would think about
7:26
it, it's probably the battery is probably going to be the heavier part of it. And so having all the battery weight like in the lower threequarters might
7:33
might offset like the extra protrusion on top. So again, we'll we'll see that when we have it in our hands. Uh the
7:40
display size is halfway between the regular phone and the big phone. So it's
7:45
6.5 in compared to 6.3 and 6.9. Single 48 megapixel rear fusion camera just
7:51
like the iPhone 16e. Um, as far as I know, I don't think they made that many improvements to their
7:58
rear 1x lens this year. I I don't remember them. They didn't really talk about it that much. A lot of the camera
8:03
improvements are the front camera, which we'll get to. You know, the the telephoto lens on the Pro phones and
8:08
the, you know, the the regular iPhone 17 gets the improved ultrawide camera, but not really anything new on the 1x
8:15
camera. If I, if I remember correctly, the front camera is an 18 megapixel
8:21
square sensor. So, because it's square, you no longer have to like physically rotate your phone vertically and
8:27
horizontally. Yeah. Yeah. That is excellent. That is an excellent These are probably This is probably some of the big the best the best camera
8:34
improvements is that is that front center stage camera and the and the stuff they're doing there.
8:39
Mhm. The new selfie camera. That looks really really sweet. I'm I'm very excited to try that out. Uh
8:45
in terms of accessories, we have an iPhone air case with Mag Safe uh which
8:51
is the the thin translucent one that's under a millimeter thin in the back. You
8:58
know, the whole thing about that phone is like, you know, oh, you buy a super thin phone, but you have to put it in a case. Well, this case is still only like
9:04
they they described as being under a millimeter thin. So, if you think about it, even if you add that case, you'd
9:10
still be thinner than the thinnest than the next thinnest iPhone ever because that would be what? 6.6 millimeters
9:16
thick. Still thinner than the iPhone 6. So, you can put this thing in a case and it'll still be thinner. That's kind of
9:21
crazy. Uh, you have a bumper case with a quote reinforced polycarbonate design.
9:30
The interesting thing about this bumper case is that the camera protrudes beyond
9:35
the edge of the bumper on the back. Yeah, Apple has like one promotional image on their, you know, when you go to
9:41
buy the case on the Apple store where they show it from the bottom and you can see Yeah, the the camera protrudes beyond
9:47
the border of the case. So, I think that was a question we had like, you know, how would how would it work? I was
9:53
thinking, well, maybe the bumper would get thicker on like the top edge of the phone since you're not really touching that area anyways. No, Apple Apple
10:01
doesn't want to blemish the the the beautiful design of the the thin uniform bumper. So, yeah. Yeah. I wonder how that's going to
10:07
work. I maybe we can get a bumper for the um for the camera bump. A bump for the bump of the bump.
10:12
Yeah. Additional bumper. We have the crossbody strap which is
10:17
made from recycled yarns and uh Apple describes it as draping comfortably
10:23
around you with an embedded flexible magnets and a stainless steel sliding
10:28
mechanisms so that you can adjust the length and uh keep both of like the the
10:33
straps like snapped together so there's no like you know dangly bits around that. Cross body straps I am told are
10:39
very popular. Have you have you seen a lot of people wearing these styles of things? I've seen a few. I've seen a few. Yeah.
10:45
And definitely more popular more recently. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You see that in the wild?
10:50
One of the videos or something they have was like of a a guy getting on a bicycle with a with one of those things on. I
10:56
was like, I don't know. It's an odd look. I was wondering how many men are
11:02
going to be using the cross body strap. And I I mean, we have pockets, so that's not a
11:07
concern for us. Yeah. I mean, most of the people I've seen using these things, it's been when I've been uh on vacation, see people,
11:14
you know, tourists. It's perfect for if you're a tourist, you're walking around, you got this thing, you know, it's always there. You don't have to dig it
11:20
out if you see something you want to take a picture of. I've heard somebody say like it's harder to uh, you know, get get your phone
11:26
swiped out of your hands if it's if you're wearing a strap. You know, pickpockets, they they can't just like, you know, grab it off of you because
11:32
they'd have to pull it off your shoulders. They can't just like grab it out of your hands and like go running down the street. Does it detach attach magnetically
11:39
though? I mean, it's just going to pop right off. It's going to be like So, it clips into the corner of the case
11:44
to your phone. So, that part is secure. The magnetic part is the fact that like the strap attaches magnetically to
11:51
itself so that it isn't all like loosened down. No, I I misunderstood the whole thing. So, it's actually secure. Somewhat
11:58
secure. It is secure. Some of the Apple cases I don't know if they've actually said which ones or they they don't make it
12:04
obvious. Some of the Apple cases like the tech woven case and the 17 air clear
12:10
case have like holes on the bottom that you can loop lanyards through. So I mean the advantage there is that you can loop
12:16
third party lanyards through it as well, not just Apple's official lanyard. Got it. Strap. We have a Mag Safe battery for
12:22
the 17 Air that attaches to the back. Uh but because it's so tall and thin, it
12:28
doesn't fit any other model of iPhone, just the 17 Air. They describe it as the 17 Air battery pack. And that is the
12:35
only one it fits, which is a mild disappointment. I think a lot of people
12:40
were wishing for Apple to like update the MagSafe battery pack accessories so they could buy it for their, you know,
12:45
iPhone 16 or 17 Pro. I was one of those people, but uh no dice. It is just for
12:51
the 17 Air. Yeah, that that sounds a bit of a lost opportunity maybe, but I I can see where they're coming from.
12:57
They want to make it as thin as possible, and to make it as thin as possible, they have to make it as tall and wide as possible. And the 17 Air is
13:03
the only phone that has had that much open space on the back without a, you know, camera bump.
13:08
Yeah, except maybe the 16e, but the 16e doesn't have Mag Safe. So, yeah, there's going to be no shortage of
13:14
of uh of of batteries anyway, isn't it? Compatible with these new phones. So, we we talked on the show about like these new Ankor Mags Safe battery packs
13:21
that are also pretty thin and light and fit on modern iPhones. So, third parties
13:26
can step in there. This is kind of interesting. During the event, they were really koi about talking about the
13:31
battery life on the iPhone. They were like, you know, John Turner was like, "Now, let's talk battery life. It has battery life."
13:38
They're like, "Oh god, how's it going to be? How bad is it going to be?" It's kind of perplexing because it actually doesn't have that much worse battery
13:45
life than you would expect. If you look on Apple's website, and they don't have very good specs for this. They only
13:51
measure battery life in hours of streamed video playback. But based on that metric, the 17 Air has the same
13:59
battery life as the iPhone 16 Pro. Both of them site 22 hours of streamed video playback. So I don't know why they were
14:06
so koi about it if it's actually pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. It's the exact same as their
14:12
flagship phone of the previous year. And if this is a Isn't it a different kind of battery? Is it a new battery? I
14:19
think it's a new battery chemistry or some new battery technology because all of the Apple devices got significantly
14:26
better battery life this year. All of the iPhone lineup, the Apple Watch got the first battery life increase that it
14:31
has ever had on the regular series models. The AirPods have better battery life. I think they switched to a new
14:37
battery chemistry. Apple was also really koi about this. They just said they rearch re-engineered the battery
14:42
architecture or something vague like that. But but because there was all these all rumors about how it was going to be a
14:48
solid state battery, wasn't it? Yeah, I think these might be like partially solid state batteries in in
14:53
some way or another. They're tear downs will probably reveal more answers to these questions, but new battery
14:58
chemistry. I mean, it's such an important This is one of the most the things that people are most worried about, isn't it? When
15:04
they I mean, this is the one feature that people want Apple to improve um is battery life. It's like the one thing
15:09
that comes up over and over. And if they have a new kind of battery, it's surprising they didn't make more of a a bigger deal out of it. They didn't talk
15:15
about it. They're just uh shy about like going into too many technical details. They just wanted to talk about it in terms of
15:22
this device has eight more hours of battery life than the model it replaces. Yeah. Yeah. And that was a that was a
15:27
really packed event anyway. I mean, it was like bang bang bang bang bang bang bang. It was so fast that uh you know
15:33
it was really short too. like it was, you know, they had similar amount. I know that point loss on the prediction
15:38
game, but they honestly had more that they announced this year than last year, and the event was shorter by like 20
15:44
minutes. So, yeah, it wasn't happy. It was good. I really enjoyed it. I I liked it a lot.
15:49
Uh, in terms of colors, we have uh colors inspired by the concept of lightness. So, we have sky blue, light
15:56
gold, cloud white, and black. Could barely call them colors.
16:02
Yep. barely colors. Which Which color do you like the best? I'm not especially taken by any of them.
16:08
I ordered an iPhone Air in the light gold color. I'm going to see how that
16:14
looks. The colors on the the glass colors on the back are very pale, but you know, the shiny edges around look kind of
16:20
vibrant. So, I I think the gold might have a an attractive look to it. I think white white's a good color. You
16:27
can never really go wrong with a white iPhone. I think if I were ordering this personally for myself, I would probably get either the
16:32
white or the black. But if it if I'm buying a product to review, I feel compelled to like get one of the
16:38
colors so I can talk about the colors more with my hands-on experience for the people who like colors. So, I felt
16:43
compel compelled to get either the blue or the gold. And I'm going to go for the for the one that's closer to the hues of tans and
16:50
browns that that is my favorite. So, yeah, light gold. We'll see how that looks. $999 for
16:57
256 gigabytes. So, it takes the slot of the Pro phone price-wise and bumped up
17:03
in storage. That's still And that's a base storage across the whole lineup. Everything is now the the 256 minimum. And that's a
17:11
pretty good that's not a bad size, is it? I mean, it's excellent. I think I think a lot of people who have pretty light needs are
17:16
easily going to fit within 256 gigabytes. Yeah. I I think that is one of the the the sleeper hits of the year. Really?
17:24
Yeah. What what did you think of the phone though? What were you tempted by it? I Well, I I thought that the way that they
17:31
introduced it was brilliant. I loved the video that they had made me
17:37
definitely want one immediately. Like like it was just the whole like way that they made it
17:43
look. Oh, it's so light and it floats and it you know, I mean that was a that was a really great introduction. I mean,
17:49
I complain about them uh doing these pre-recorded things, but that was pretty beautiful. Um, yeah. I mean, I it's
17:56
tempting to get the phone just because who wouldn't like a a light more lightweight phone. Um, I got, you know,
18:03
the Pro in my back pocket all the time. It always feels like I got uh something substantial back there. Uh but then
18:10
again, you know, like I the lack I I think the biggest thing for me is the the lack of camera on the back, you
18:17
know, the the well the new one has an 8x camera, right? And this thing has what,
18:23
2x? I mean, that's that's not much of a zoom. I kind of like having a zoom available. I mean, I I regularly use a
18:29
5x zoom just to be able to read a uh a bar menu, a beer menu in a bar. Mhm.
18:35
Uh, so I and it's I mean it's true. It's almost like a you know geriatric beer
18:42
help 5x zoom. Yeah. Yeah. I mean
18:47
you just hold the menu close up. No. Like you know you go to one of these great bars like uh you know Holy Water
18:52
up here on Courtland. They've got the rotating taps and they're all on little signs that are about the size of a a
18:58
license plate or something with little little writing that explains what it is. I if I'm standing at if that bar is busy
19:03
and I'm standing at the back, I have to use a 5x zoom to get well maybe not five but more than two to to get a nice and
19:09
then you could see what the beers are, you know, it's nice. So that's a very specific use case.
19:15
Unfortunately, I use it a lot, but uh
19:20
yeah. Well, but the cameras though are great, aren't they? I mean, um and the 16E I mean, you tested it out, Griffin.
19:27
Yeah. Yeah, it's great so long as you don't want to zoom it in, but when whenever you do, then you're just kind of at a loss.
19:33
I mean, the like I I don't really lament the ultra wide too much. I know like a lot of Gen Z like the ultra wide camera,
19:40
but I don't really use it too often. Honestly, I think it's kind of annoying when you're trying to take a a regular
19:45
picture of something like on a table and it switches to the ultra wide camera, but zooms in and crops it and makes it
19:50
uglier. Like just because the main 1x lens doesn't have a very good like minimum focus distance. But like, yeah,
19:57
the zoom the if if you ever take like zoomed in pictures with the telephoto like the 5x that I mean that's really
20:04
the biggest draw of this phone in my opinion. Um I I don't like how it doesn't have the telephoto zoom. I also
20:10
don't like how it's even bigger than the regular one. I mean I understand they have to maximize like the length and
20:17
height of it to fit as big of a battery in it as they can. Like if they made it as, you know, narrow and short as I
20:23
wanted it, it would probably get like half the battery. But that's an unfortunate side effect. Yeah.
20:29
You want like an a credit card size phone, you know, but that's a good point. Uh it is bigger than the Pro like
20:35
dimension wise. And I I really think that the the current 6.3 in size of the Pro is like
20:42
it's on the fence of being too big. It is like just barely small enough to really be tolerable
20:47
for someone who likes to use their phone one-handed. Mhm. Uh so although I'm very excited to like
20:53
try it out because I bet it will feel excellent in the hand just because of how thin it is. Um it I guess I should also point out it
21:00
isn't quite as light as I think a lot of people were hoping. It is a little heavier. It's about the same weight as
21:07
the iPhone as the iPhone 12. Not the 12 Pro, but the iPhone 12, like the
21:13
aluminum one from 2020. I was kind of expecting it to be a little lighter, but you know, a lot of its volume is
21:18
occupied by battery and the battery is probably very dense in this thing. So, yeah, I I wish you could see this before
21:24
you could you have to order it, you know, especially for us like, you know, the pre-order types. Um, the ones who have to get it straight
21:30
away. Um, I'm very sort of nervous about pulling the trigger before actually
21:36
checking it out. Um, like you said, I think the screen size is one of the things that I'd prefer a smaller phone. Um, even though
21:43
I'm using a a Max Pro Max right now, I'd like to go smaller. Um, and will that,
21:48
you know, will it make that much of a difference between 6.5 inches and 6.3 inches? Actually, probably it would,
21:54
wouldn't it? You know, like smaller is better. But yeah, I definitely want to check it out before buying it. Um,
22:00
so it's a shame. I don't know what to do, you know, like I'm I'm you know, pre-orders start tomorrow, don't they?
22:05
So, I'm not going to I I have no idea what I'm going to order. No idea at all. I mean they they keep an amount of stock
22:12
in the stores. So if you go they they have some reserved for the people who just walk in and want to try
22:18
try before they buy. Yeah. If especially in San Francisco, you're very lucky. If you go to your nearest
22:23
Apple store, you can pick both of them up and see, oh yeah, I want this one more or you'll be able to make that decision.
22:28
Yeah, maybe I'll skip the pre-ordering this year. Then I have to get up at 5 a.m. Wow, that sounds appealing, actually. I
22:35
mean, I think the ultimate question is, is the Air a better addition to the line
22:40
more valuable to the lineup than the than a potential 17 plus would be? I
22:46
mean, if you liked the Plus model because you just want the biggest screen without spending a lot of money, yeah,
22:52
this is kind of this doesn't really fill all of those requirements and it probably has worse battery life than a
22:57
17 plus would have had, but honestly, I think it it's better because it diversifies the lineup much more. you
23:03
know, instead of having four basically the same phones, you now have one that is marketkedly different, makes a
23:10
completely different set of trade-offs, has a different philosophy to it, you you ultimately have more choice now than
23:15
I think you would have had before. So, yeah, it's actually exciting. For the first time in, you know, a little while,
23:21
there's an exciting new iPhone, right? And then, of course, you know, there was a lot of speculation that this
23:27
is obviously a trial run for the folding phone coming coming next year. This is Apple,
23:32
you know, doing testing out the components, the design, the durability.
23:38
I'm sure there's all kinds of stuff they're going to learn over the next year or so before they uh trot out the
23:43
iPhone that, you know, that the supply chain, um, getting all the components lined up, making, you know, the manufacturing is all nice and clear.
23:49
It's obviously a trial run for the folding phone. And the thing about that is that like a folding phone would have
23:54
to make fewer trade-offs than the Airhead just because it would have more surface area to work with. Not just screen space, but also a folding phone
24:00
would have room for the extra cameras on the back. It would have room for more speakers. The folding phone, although
24:05
it'll fold into a mini iPad, will feel more like a premium pro phone than this one will.
24:11
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I saw people actually you mentioned the stereo speakers that people were losing their minds on the socials about the fact that
24:17
it only has a mono speaker that doesn't have stereo speakers. It was like, "Oh my god, I can't believe they did this."
24:23
You know, like who's going to pay that kind of money for a premium phone and that without stereo speakers? But like,
24:28
when was the last time you used the speakers for anything except like, you know, maybe the ringtone or young people will just play Tik Tok over
24:34
the phone speaker as entertainment. though that that is actually a downside if if you don't have AirPods and you
24:40
just want Can you actually hear does there any stereo separation on the stereo on the stereo speakers on I don't think it's I don't think they're
24:46
complaining so much about stereo separation as they are about like it'll probably have lower volume and lower audio quality.
24:52
Yeah. Well, we'll see. It it has uh
24:57
only speakers at the top, right? It like where the ear Yeah. It doesn't have at the bottom of the
25:03
phone. And same thing with I think microphones are uh like only a micro like less microphones,
25:10
right? So I'm It has built-in microphones at the bottom and built-in microphone at
25:16
the top. Okay. So has three. That's not That's not that Yeah, it's probably the same as the 17,
25:21
honestly. And uh one built-in speaker at the top and no at no speaker at the bottom. People are also losing their mind about
25:27
the um the offcenter USBC port
25:33
that was that was causing a major major meltdown. Yeah, I mean I'll admit I wasn't a fan
25:38
of the offc center USBC port when it was on the iPhone XR, but I think
25:43
it it's more obvious why it needs to be offc center this time just because they they have to make room for the screen on
25:49
top of it and they've only got a few millimeters of wiggle room to play with. So it it makes a little more sense on
25:55
this phone. It kind of also makes I I wonder whether they they'll ditch the the port
26:01
altogether on the folding phone. Surely that's a limiting factor, right? That's got to be one of the factors in
26:08
determining how how thin it is. And I wonder if you if you got rid of it, could you go much thinner?
26:14
Only one of the halves of the phone has to have the port on it. Maybe the maybe the other flipping part that flips out
26:19
or like the lid of it is going to be even thinner than that. Well, do you think it would be? Yeah, I would have thought they would
26:25
have been symmetrical, but you know, maybe there's no reason why it has to be symmetrical. True enough, right?
26:32
Yeah. Be it would feel weird in your hand if the two sides weren't the same thickness, wouldn't it? Yeah. And it would it would be, you
26:39
know, completely lopsided, wouldn't it? It would It wouldn't be balanced. Well, Apple doesn't have any problem
26:45
making phones that are lopsided. And when you when you when you sit them on a table anyways,
26:51
right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I saw people doing the the bump the wiggle test or whatever it is, you know, they put it down on a on a on a flat surface and of
26:57
course the thing's wobbling everywhere like a weeble. Yeah. And uh the the one thing Did you
27:03
talk about the price? 999 $9.99 takes the spot of the 16 Pro.
27:08
Well, by the time you add the battery though, it's actually going to be 1,100. Same price. Yeah.
27:13
Yeah. I wonder what percentage of people uh go ahead and put that in the in the bag
27:19
on the strap. 85%. I don't know. The I'll be very curious to see if the straps catch on.
27:26
Yeah. So, I guess I should say I I ordered a 17 Air to review and I bought all the accessories. The battery, the
27:32
strap, the clear case, the bumper case. It actually adds up to like what 13 $1,400 after tax. Like
27:39
these things are expensive. Yeah. Yeah. Well, Apple did a good job though, keeping prices, I think, you know, pretty pretty in line with
27:46
previous previous years. This year, no big There was only one price increase, in fact. Well, I guess we're going to be
27:51
talking about that now, right, Lewis? Let's move on to the the the 17 Pro. Yeah, it's a big big big big change this
27:57
year. Uh they uh they overhold the design completely. It's a unibody aluminum design like they used to or
28:04
like with MacBooks. They that's where they started those, right? The Mac unibody design. and years and years ago, you know, the first unibody MacBook
28:11
was was a good long time ago. And that was I I remember talking with you years, you know, years ago about how
28:17
the amazing like innovation that that was the making those unibody designs.
28:22
That was one of the rare times that they actually had Johnny IV on stage for the introduction of that. And if you watch the keynote, like they because it was
28:28
like a brand new concept, like they were passing through like different stages of like unibody enclosures through the
28:34
audience for them to like hold and like pass it along. It it's a it was a big deal because um of the manufacturing
28:40
process I mean you need CNC machines to uh mill out um the uh you know the from
28:47
blanks and uh these are super expensive. I mean these machines cost I think up to
28:53
a million dollars each. Yeah. And and Apple had like cornered the market on them. Bought bought up the
28:58
entire supply chain supply for for a couple of years and that was just for the Max and then you know even
29:03
worse when they were doing iPhone stuff. So, you know, I think this explains why they haven't done it before. You looked at the bottom of like a PC
29:09
laptop from the mid-200s and it looks like you're looking at the bottom of like a spaceship on Star Wars with all of like the separate plastic panels and
29:16
things that are sticking out at different levels. Like it it was a genuine huge innovation. Yeah.
29:21
Yeah. Definitely, definitely. Definitely. Yeah. So, now that comes to the uh iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. Uh it's got a
29:28
bigger I think the the notes here say forged plateau. I think it's I think they actually said heat forged plateau
29:36
which you know sounds like it comes right from the middle of a volcano or something. Um like the uh iPhone air it
29:43
this design pushes almost all the main components into the top of the phone leaving a space for a big big battery.
29:51
Uh probably the biggest innovation vapor chamber for heat dissipation which Apple
29:56
says will give 40% greater sustained performance. Very exciting. I I've seen a lot of people like arguing
30:03
about how effective this would be because, you know, well, the heat is still going to be in the phone. You know, how how much is it and it's going
30:09
to be absorbed by the case, but like honestly, there are a few advantages to this. First of all, it spreads the heat out over a greater area, taking them
30:15
away from like the one or two chips that get scaldingly hot on the inside. Also,
30:21
I heard a theory that putting all of the components in the top half of the phone behind the uh heat forged plateau, a lot
30:28
of cases probably aren't going to cover up the plateau. So, if you have a chip that's like in that area, it's not going
30:35
to be insulated by the case, that heat will be able to escape easier. And also putting all those components on
30:40
the top where you're less likely to hold, it won't burn your hand and you won't notice as much. Did you How big is the vapor chamber?
30:47
Did you because it I have to go back and look. I I I didn't pay attention. I didn't see it on the
30:54
you know the event, but it looked like it was actually a pretty big component, wasn't it? Didn't it kind of like go
30:59
down most of the phone? Yeah, it looks like it's a good like half or two/ird of the height of the phone.
31:05
And it's actually Well, um there's a space inside, right, for the ionized
31:10
water to move around. I thought it was deionized water. Oh, okay. Yeah, whatever it was. Yeah. I
31:16
just I remember seeing that it's like wow that's an odd thing to mention. Probably so that if it breaks it doesn't
31:22
like ruin the inside of the phone maybe. I don't know. Oh yeah. I wonder. Or
31:28
there probably aren't that much different thermal properties between ionized and dei deionized water is there.
31:33
Yeah. But I wonder how much water is in there too. That's kind of intriguing, isn't it? My my my question is if you break your
31:39
phone in a particular way, like if you stab it in the exact right position, is your phone like is the water going to leak out? I'm really curious about this.
31:46
They don't really explain. I mean, presumably like there are a few things between it and the outside like the Mag
31:52
Safe coils or they they weren't exactly clear on like where exactly it is inside
31:58
the phone, but I'm I'm very curious about how this works. The tearown is going to be very fascinating. Well, this
32:03
was wasn't this supposed to be the whole point of the um you know the teaser the thermal image that you know when they it
32:09
was supposed to be like a big big and then they showed when they when they were talking about it they showed thermal images which is what made me
32:14
think it was a larger component. Um because it looked like you could see the heat spreading almost down the you know
32:20
the whole body. Um but then I guess they didn't make that much of it either really did they? It was kind of it was
32:26
there and gone in like a second like every other thing. That thing was just a blazing fast. Uh yeah, looking at
32:34
the site, it looks like it's Yeah, it's like kind of an L-shaped thing. Looks like it's fairly large.
32:40
I mean, also just switching it from titanium to aluminum alone. I think aluminum conducts heat 20 times better
32:47
than titanium. So, you know, and people are saying, "Oh, well, you know, they they just tried to sell us on titanium.
32:52
Now they're switching back to aluminum. Ah, make up your minds." a lot of the decisions they're making around the Pro phones, making it more clear that the
32:59
Pro phone is for pro users and the, you know, quote unquote desirable phone is
33:05
now the Air. The Air is the fashion statement phone, so now it gets the the flashy look and all that. The Pro phone
33:12
is more of a utilitarian device with the utilitarian cameras, the the less
33:17
interesting looking material, like it's just aluminum. A choice being made in the interest of practicality.
33:23
Yeah. I'm I saw people complaining it was ugly, which I I kind of agree. I mean, I don't
33:28
really like that sort of two-tone back look. It looked It doesn't to me look as good as previous versions.
33:34
It's just like regular, you know, sandblasted aluminum. The same look that they have been making on their MacBooks
33:41
for the last 20 years. the uh just in case you were wondering, the uh
33:48
vapor chamber, it's it's laser welded.
33:55
There are all these little little details that they put in these descriptions. It just cracks me up. Uh
34:01
anyway, let's see what else is great about this thing. Uh A19 Pro chip, same one as in the Air. Uh fastest CPU ever
34:08
in a smartphone according to Apple. And it's a beast, isn't it? I mean the the benchmarks are crazy.
34:13
Yeah. What did they say? Something like it's it's MacBook level uh performance. MacBook level graphics.
34:20
The the GPU got a huge huge boost in the A19 Pro and and uh the Pro one has a slightly
34:27
better GPU chip, right? The Air has a like one less GPU core.
34:33
Yeah. Uh the Pro one has a a brighter display display with a peak of 3000 nits.
34:40
Uh let's see. It's got the same center stage front camera as all the other phones. Wait, hang on. Before we move too far
34:45
past the benchmarks, uh, we just actually published this article yesterday. Looks like about a
34:51
14% CPU improvement, 17 Pro versus 16 Pro, but a 40% better graphics
34:57
improvement 17 Pro to 16 Pro. Like single generation, 40% better graphics
35:03
on the Geekbench 6 Metal test, which is a pretty huge leap. You know, that's that's what we've heard. The M5 isn't
35:09
going to be very impressive. This is like the third iteration of the same 3nanmter process. It's not going to be
35:15
as big of a leap. At least CPU wise. Graphics. Huge leap. Yeah, kind of nutty.
35:21
Uh let's see. First improvement to telephoto sensor in years. 48 megapixels now.
35:28
Uh 4xP optical zoom but crops into optical 8x zoom. I never quite
35:33
understand any of this this photo deep photographic stuff. That's got to be a slight hand. optical
35:39
a if it crops in how can we a aid in optical adex zoom when it's actually not adex
35:44
I think they said optical quality is what they said yeah they they say optical quality the deal is like the sensor is high enough
35:50
resolution that um because the whole sensor is 48 megapixels in resolution so
35:55
you can quote unquote zoom in on the sensor to get a regular 12 megapixel photo from the middle that'll be as if
36:02
you zoomed in so this is actually pretty clever yeah for Sure. And I saw some I saw some
36:09
test shots, you know, from the uh from the event and someone had zoomed in uh to the Apple HQ and and it was amazing.
36:16
I mean, they really really detailed. I mean, honestly, the biggest problem with the current camera system in the 16
36:21
Pro is that there's a big gap between the z the 2x and the 5x. What they've
36:26
done is they've, you know, unzoomed the lens a little bit down to 4x so that you have less of a gap. you know, now you
36:32
you can zoom into 2x with quote unquote optical quality and then jump to 4x, but
36:37
then once you're at 4x, you can freely zoom in and out just like you can on the main lines up to 8x, which is pretty
36:43
insane. And I think they let you like digital zoom all the way up to like, you know, 12x or 20x or something insane
36:49
like that. Yeah, it's a bit of a uh is it do you think it's misleading when they say optical quality, 8x zoom? I guess, you
36:55
know, if they if it says optical quality, I guess that's okay. Yeah, optical quality if
37:00
you're if you only want to take a 12 megapixel picture and only look at it on your iPhone, but you know, you're not
37:06
going to be you're not going to be blowing up an 8x picture on like and hang it on your wall, right?
37:11
Poster size. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Still, they look like fantastic cameras. And it's it's uh it's
37:17
How many How many camera sensors does it have now? Still three. Three on the back and one on the front. They talk about like, oh,
37:23
it's like you're carrying around eight lenses in your pocket. No, not really. But sure.
37:30
Yeah. Let's see. Everybody's going to love this. Uh 18% bigger battery. Supposedly 8 hours extra battery life. I
37:38
suppose that's probably on the video uh streaming metric that they like to use. Eight hours is huge, isn't it? That's a
37:44
big jump. Oh, yeah. Uh 256 gigabytes is now the entry level.
37:50
And uh that comes with a $100 price increase, which is just heartbreaking.
37:55
Uh still That's not too bad. It's not too bad, is it? It's depends on how you voted in the predictions game. Uh,
38:02
so now the entrylevel pro is 1,099.
38:08
Oh, another note about the battery. You know, the battery is slightly bigger. If if you're in the land of the free, the
38:15
United States of America, the the space where they previously had the eim is now a little more battery.
38:20
Why don't they do asims in other countries? It's only that's only US and EU, right? Any idea why they don't have
38:26
EIM in Asia? And a lot of uh carriers across the world don't have EIM support yet.
38:32
Yeah. And like like I mean I e and you know why anybody wouldn't want an ESIM I
38:38
can't understand. I mean I love the ESIMs and uh but but for instance last
38:43
time I went over to Europe uh I I bought an eim like through some you
38:48
know some not not through a carrier. Usually when I would go to Italy, I would get a a SIM card from, you know, a
38:54
company there and they would be much cheaper, better coverage, whatever. But eims, I don't know, they've they've come
39:01
a long way and you can get a decent price on them. You know, you shop around a little, you you do all the installation here at your house and
39:08
wherever you land, you just flip it on. It's fantastic. Way better than trying to change it in, you know, airport uh
39:15
restaurant table or something after you've been through, you know, eight eight hour flight. Yeah. Oh, where's the
39:21
little Yeah. Right. It's just terrible. So, Essent are awesome. Yeah. That's And the fact that
39:26
I like having bigger battery, too. Mhm. Another difference, US phones versus global phones, is that the US
39:33
phones have the millimeter wave antenna on the top edge of the phone where it's not really visible in any Apple product
39:40
shots, but like people in the hands-on area were taking pictures of these. There's like this weird like miscolored like plastic cement on the top.
39:46
And my theory is that that explains away the bizarre rumor we had like a month
39:51
ago that's like the iPhone's going to get a second camera control on the top. Like that doesn't make any sense. That
39:57
cutout is probably for the millimeter wave antenna. And you said it's only in in US models.
40:04
I don't actually don't know if that's in US and Europe models, but because I'm an American and America is the only country
40:10
that matters to me. I see. But what else was there to say? I mean, my eyes glazed over when they were talking
40:16
about all the video stuff. You know, what do you know? It's got a better video camera, better everything camera, everything. Just everything better. And
40:23
and I think what what you're saying about this being more of like a pro- utilitarian thing, I think that goes
40:28
right through to the design. It doesn't look as in my my opinion doesn't look as, you know, nice and polished and
40:35
finished as as previous versions. They they made it look slightly more like a a tool, which is what it is. And if you I
40:43
mean, talk about they did they didn't talk about the uh Final Cut camera app during the the thing at all. I don't
40:49
think they mentioned it during the event, right? They they sent a press release later in the day and oh my god, you read it. It's like it was written
40:55
for, you know, some Hollywood uh film technology
41:00
website or something. I I I didn't I had to look up so many words. I just I punted it. I'm like, nobody cares about this except for people who are making
41:07
movies with this these phones, which is, you know, increasing number of people and they just keep getting better and
41:13
and uh what what is it? ProRes RAW. They shoot now. Raw. Yeah. Crazy.
41:18
ProRes RAW. And about a gigabyte every second or 50 gigs or something. It's
41:24
crazy. But I mean, they these are legitimate cameras that people use to make
41:29
legitimate movies these days. So, you know, and again, as I say all the time, I'll probably end up buying one
41:36
and I'll probably won't use a tenth of its features and I'll just think about, wow, I could be making a movie with this
41:41
phone, but instead, you know, I'm taking a picture of my my sushi at a restaurant, right? I I was talking with
41:46
Sam about this like what do we think Apple considers to be like the flagship
41:52
like mainline phone ever since they first bifurcated with like the iPhone 10 and iPhone 8 and later like iPhones pro
41:59
and you know iPhone 11. I think it's clear that like this is the first time Apple doesn't consider the Pro phone to
42:05
be the flagship phone. I think the flagship phone of the lineup is now the Air and you know Apple considers the Pro
42:10
to be like you know the the the niche production device for this exact reason. Um, we have new cases. The tech woven
42:19
case, quote, features a new technical woven fabric, that's just a completely madeup phrase,
42:26
that uses multiple colored yarns. Like, what does every Apple Watch band that now has multiple colored yarns? Is that
42:33
also now technically woven band, creating a dimensional texture and depth
42:39
of color, while a protective coating provides resistance to scratches and stains.
42:45
So, we'll see about that. I saw people scratching it on the on the hands-on area and there was no sign of
42:50
um any any of that uh you know, leaving blemishes. It does look a lot more durable. But hold on. We didn't talk about the
42:56
colors of these phones. I just was going to say cuz that that's probably, you know, I
43:01
mean, what do you think of the orange the the cosmic orange? Oh my god. You know, I've been looking
43:07
at a bunch of the images on their site and it kind of varies. Some of them almost make it look like it's actually
43:14
orange. I just saw one now. Looks very bronze. Uh I
43:21
God, I'm so tempted. I mean, a bright orange iPhone is what I've wanted for years. That's what I've been railing
43:28
hoping for and and I see it and it's like pretty sure if I order that I'm going to open it up and go, it's brown.
43:36
Well, some of the some of the videos from the the hands-on area made it look pretty, you know, under the under the big intense lights at the Steve Jobs
43:43
Theater. Pretty pretty pretty pretty bright and pretty colorful or orange-ish. Yeah. Would you say it looks more orange than
43:50
bronze? I I'd say it looks pretty orange. Pretty, you know, it kind of reminds me of the the Golden Gate Bridge. It's that
43:55
kind of industrial orange. International orange. International. I haven't seen any pictures that make it look like bronze or dark. There's one
44:03
that's oh not dark but just more of a brown orange.
44:09
Yeah. If you look at for instance the there's a picture of a tech woven case. It's got the the you know the plateau
44:17
sticking out of it and uh it's in a brown case. This is like to me this is the most I incriminating is not the
44:25
right word, but I think uh the most like probably Oh yeah, it's not going to be
44:30
the the bright orange that I'm hoping for. Yeah, I I see it's it's a little darker
44:35
in the corner. Yeah, it's like I mean the thing is like the the the regular iPhone colors, the the ones that
44:42
are actually bright that we've been like, "Oh, why don't they bring these colors to the pros?" Like those have been pretty unambiguously bright. maybe
44:48
like 10% less bright than the Apple product photos, but I mean those in the wild, like an ultramarine iPhone 16
44:55
looks ultramarine, so maybe I'm a little confident. I I think it's mostly to like the brown tech woven
45:02
case that might be like bringing it down to your eyes, but yeah, honestly,
45:07
I I love the brown techo case. I'm genuinely sad that they're not making it
45:13
for the for the iPhone 16 Pro cuz I I'm going to stick with my iPhone 16 Pro personally. I wish I had a brown case
45:19
like that. It looks gorgeous. Ah god, I just uh I suppose I could
45:24
spray paint the thing. Yeah. So, we als we also have we so we have the bright orange. We have a a dark
45:30
blue. I'm curious how that dark blue looks nice. I think that's a really nice looking color. That
45:36
one I'm concerned about honestly because a lot of a lot of their dark blues like the the midnight or what do you I don't
45:42
know what they call it like the the dark blue MacBook Air that they made it basically looks like dark gray you know.
45:49
I'm not I I'm a little less confident that that is going to be as blue as as colorful as as Apple's product shots. Uh
45:55
no black but we just have silver which got a lot of people in a twist.
46:03
Right. Yeah. First time. First time for a long ever, right? They've never had a a black
46:09
model. And and the silver isn't as white. I don't think it's as white as the, you know, previous silver phones
46:15
have been. It's more of a neutral silver, like sort of just, you know, regular unadorned Apple,
46:21
which I'm I'm really happy about because again, I' I've been saying actually this for years. I wish Apple made a black and
46:27
silver phone, you know, not black with black aluminum, not black with white
46:33
aluminum, like, you know, black and unadorned silver. Um, if I were getting a Pro, that's honestly what I would get.
46:39
But, um, yeah, I thought the silver looked good, too. The silver looks nice. I think that's a that's a nice looking I I think a lot of people who are
46:44
disappointed that there isn't a black color will actually enjoy the silver more than they were thinking they would. If you if you look at them all three
46:50
side by side, though, the silver and the orange definitely look two-tone. like the the glass insert in the back. We
46:57
didn't really go over this, right? We said unibody design, but but there's there's a lot more aluminum to this this
47:02
phone than there was titanium to the other ones, right? And the whole back is
47:08
glass for the wireless charging. And if you look at the silver and the orange, the the glass insert is definitely
47:15
lighter and a different shade than the body. The blue one, it almost looks in
47:20
this, you know, one product shot. God knows what it looks like in person, but uh it it actually looks more like a
47:26
single color rather than this weird two-tone look that I'm not frankly not that crazy about. So,
47:32
I think it looks cool, honestly. The two-tone. Yeah. Yeah. I I think Apple's product shots maybe blend the colors closer
47:39
together than they've than I've I've seen in actual pictures people have taken. But, I think it's kind of neat how they they they haven't gone to like
47:46
their insane Apple lengths to like make it look like completely seamless. I think, you know, it it makes the back
47:51
look a little interesting. Yeah, because otherwise it would just be like a giant slab of the same color. And I
47:57
think right if that I like it. I like it a lot. I think they'd look really nice. If that color had like deep speckles and
48:04
things, you know, make it look glittery, then I'd be more I'm like a fish. Like I I need a a glittery fish hook.
48:17
Well, and maybe you get one of those glitter cases that my wife has, you know, it's it has all the glitter that moves around inside.
48:23
Yeah, right. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Is that Is it deionized water though? I need to know. Uh no, I don't think it's deionized.
48:29
So, they got Tech Woven. They also have um silicone cases again in a a
48:35
interesting kind of array of colors. One of them being terracotta,
48:40
which is very brown. uh neon yellow, which doesn't look as as yellow as the
48:46
current yellow, which I have and love. Uh purple, I'm sorry, purple fog, midnight and black, but also orange. And
48:53
that orange case actually looks legit straight up like bright orange.
48:59
So, maybe put that on the uh orange phone. It covers up the uh to my to my
49:06
eye uh unattractive two-tone glass back. You got you got a bright orange case. You got an orange plateau. You're all
49:14
orange. Mhm. And we should say that the the cross body strap that accessory that they're selling comes in color matched
49:20
options that match not just the iPhone air but all of the phones. All of the
49:26
phones and all of the case colors. So if you're interested in that, you don't have to feel held back.
49:31
You can Oh, and what that do those only work with the tech woven cases?
49:37
They work with the techwoven cases and the clear case I think has the the holes on the bottom as well.
49:43
Got it. You're going all in on the the strap. It's um All right, let's talk about the
49:49
the iPhone 17, the the base model, which I thought was probably which I was kind
49:54
of the most impressed. Oh, actually, I know not the most impressed, but I was impressed by this one, too. This one had
50:00
a lot of surprising things. Starting with um the display, which um is 6.3 in.
50:06
It's got thinner bezels and it's like the prior iPhone 16 Pro,
50:13
but it is now uh 120 megahertz, right?
50:18
Which people had complained about forever that the basic iPhone only had a 60 Hz screen. Um, and now it's like it's
50:24
bumped way up. Um, and the screen the screen now gets promotion. It's always on. It goes up to 30,000 nits. Uh, it
50:32
looks, you know, kind of amazing. Pretty pretty big bump. I thought in specs from the previous generation, it's also has a
50:40
48 megapixel ultrawide camera just like the 16 Pro. Um, and uh the same center stage front
50:47
camera like just like the rest of the lineup. Also ceramic shield 2 uh and it
50:52
has now five extra hours of battery life from the previous model. So, they've
50:58
also bumped up the battery life. Uh, and 50% faster wired charging, which um I
51:04
guess is pretty good, you know, like you can go to um from 0 to 50% in what was it? 20 minutes,
51:10
something insane like that. Yeah. Yeah. Pretty pretty pretty quick. Um so, if you need to top it up real quick, you
51:16
know, plug it into a wire. Don't don't use the wireless charging. Um and the
51:21
same price, $7.99 for 250 starting at 256 GB. I think if you look at the whole overall package, this is aing crazy good
51:28
deal. It made the least headlines, but honestly, this is going to be the sleeper hit of the lineup. This is an insane value.
51:34
I think so. True enough. Yeah, I know. No, almost no drawbacks and totally blows away if you compare it to the, you
51:40
know, the the new Samsung's um or other Android phones, you know? I mean, it's got way better specs.
51:46
Um and of course, you've got all the, you know, the Apple advantages, the Apple ecosystem, the Apple software. Um yeah, it looks like a really fabulous
51:53
handset. And this this is another one that that threw me through a loop. Like, you know, maybe I should go just for a regular iPhone this year and not get a
52:00
Pro model for the first time ever. Um, or the Air. I'm actually really tempted by this one as well. So, now it's a
52:06
three-way race. I have absolutely no no idea what to get at all. Just buy them all. See which one you
52:11
like. Pretend you're pretend you're uh, you know, trying out shoes from Zapos or something
52:17
and send back two two of them. Keep one. Uh, although I did that I did do that in
52:22
the past once actually. and ended up with two phones. I ended up keeping both of them and then one of them I never
52:27
used. You got to beware of the two week window. Right. True enough. True enough. Yeah. It uh it looks like a really really good
52:34
uh this is going to be the sleep ahead I think. And do you know what the numbers are that they uh that in terms of sales
52:41
like how many Apple stopped breaking out those numbers years ago? Sadly, we don't really know, but um it's the regular like 17 the
52:48
entry level iPhone that they continue selling for years afterwards at lower prices. They they discontinue the Pros
52:55
after a year. They'll probably do that with the Air as well. But like the iPhone 16 entry-le model is still for
53:02
sale today at a lower price. And the 17 is going to be that same way too. So,
53:07
this is the one that you know people walk into an AT&T store and say, "Give me an iPhone." This is the one they'll
53:12
probably be given. And honestly, they'll get a really great iPhone because like the biggest downside before was the lack
53:18
of promotion and always on. And now you have that, too. You know, 30,000 nits outdoors, that's a big change that all
53:25
the phones get this year. That's huge. You know, you'll be able to
53:30
you'll be able to see your phone like perfectly clear on the brightest summer day for about a minute before it dims it
53:37
again because it gets too hot. But but it's also got it's also got a anti-reflective coating now, right? Like
53:42
across the board. So that was also I think seen getting a lot of praise. The anti-proactive clothing is actually really pretty good.
53:47
Yeah, they they they kind of brushed past that. I think it was only like Cayenne DR who mentioned it like once in the whole in the whole event. But I'm
53:53
I'm excited to see how that works out because that's a that'll that'll be a huge improvement because the def the
53:59
phone won't have to get as bright for you to see it legibly if it's not so reflective. So,
54:04
right, that could be a big thing. And if you don't like the look of the giant plateau, well, the iPhone 17 doesn't
54:10
have it. It's just the two cameras on that edge. So, yeah, there you go. And what are you really losing? You're
54:15
losing the zoom and you're you have a slightly inferior chip, A19 rather than
54:20
A19 Pro. Yeah. Which is basically an A19 Pro except it's bend a little bit. Like
54:26
really not a very big difference this year between the two chips. Yeah. So very uh yeah, it's Apple did
54:33
this a lot with with a lot of their lineups of just making the entrylevel thing almost as good as the most
54:41
expensive thing. It's kind of shocking. It is, isn't it? Yeah. All of the all the recent entry- level products I've
54:46
been really impressed by. iPad, uh Apple Watch SE is amaz pretty pretty amazing value. Yeah, they offer great great
54:53
value, I think, at the low end. I mean, really, really good. They're not they're not really on this one especially, it's
54:58
not there's no massive uh drawback, is there that that would
55:03
really put you off? Uh in terms of colors, we have black, white, green, blue, and purple. They're
55:10
a little more muted than the previous year, but we'll we'll see how that goes. Yeah, I was a little uh I was surprised
55:16
there wasn't something as as cool as a ultramarine last year. Yeah, the the colors I think are a
55:21
little bit of a step down. There's no pink, but you know, there is purple, which is a pretty good color. The green is like mint green or sage
55:28
green or something. Do you know anyone who has got a green phone, Kermit the Frog?
55:34
I you know, I I wouldn't be opposed to a green phone. Um, and the image they have on the on the
55:41
website, it's got it looks that looks like marijuana where if you look on on Apple's website for
55:48
the iPhone 17, they have a big they have a big picture. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it is kind of like
55:54
floral in the middle, isn't it? It's more than floral. It's marijuana. That's totally a cannabis leaf
55:59
reflected. This is This is the stoner crowd they're going for for sure.
56:06
Oh, I see it. I see it. just flashed across my screen. Yeah. Oh my god. Okay.
56:12
It's a good looking phone though, isn't it? I love that camera way that the the the two cameras are one on top of each other.
56:18
Yeah. It's got the It's got the camera control, which you know, maybe with another year I can figure out how to use.
56:23
I actually heard that when you're setting up a brand new phone now, it's already like this even in iOS 18. When
56:28
you're setting up a brand new phone, um there's a new setup screen that asks you about the camera control and asks you
56:34
how you want to use it. And the default option is to just use it as a button that without any of the swipy or clicky
56:41
or half pressy fancy gestures. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's the worst thing about it. I mean, as a button, it
56:46
works great, but um yeah, if you half press it and you and you get into that horrible hell
56:52
of of all the settings, it's a nightmare because then I I can never figure out how to get out of it without quitting
56:57
without quitting the app. Yeah. So, apparently Apple's like walking it back in software. We'll see if they I mean their hardware is like
57:03
years designed in advance, so we'll see if like maybe like the iPhone 18 or 19 actually change how the physical button
57:10
works, but they're already sort of toning it down. Yeah. And and someone pointed out that they they didn't mention camera control
57:16
once, I don't think, during the whole keynote, did they? Or and they weren't even using it when they showed people taking pictures with their new phones.
57:23
They were using the they were using this on screen button, not the uh not the hardware button. Wow.
57:28
Yeah, these look awesome. I think these look really good. It's what a great lineup of products phones this year and
57:35
I saw some uh on Twitter completely you know unverified of course but um people were saying that um pre-orders were
57:42
three time or or interest or I I can't remember what the it could be pre-orders because they haven't gone live yet but
57:48
the interest something in China was like three times they were for last year's iPhone 16 lineup.
57:53
I think I saw that same tweet tweet. Yeah. Like I I I've heard that like the market in China is very heavy
57:59
on like having something that looks new, having a new design. All I mean, barring the regular iPhone 17, like the the pros
58:07
and the airs both are like easily identifiable as, oh, you have the new iPhone. And I can I can bet that that
58:13
could be a big reason why. Honestly, after years of like having pretty similar looking phones, it sounds like
58:18
the next few years are going to like be a few years of dramatically new things in a row. you know, there's this year.
58:24
Next year they'll have the folding phone. The year after that, supposedly the Pro phones are going to have like this edge actually edgetoedge glass
58:31
that'll like wrap around a little bit. So, yeah. Yeah. Right. Yeah, that that's a good point. Like you said, the new
58:37
design is is definitely driving a lot of interest. Let's move on to um our other
58:42
sponsor this week, Factor. Lewis, tell us about Factor. Factor, if you haven't tried it, uh it's

58:59

59:05
this in the past. It tastes like like a perfectly done steak, a perfectly cooked piece of fish, a a juicy chicken breast.
59:14
You know, of of course I go for like the carnivore centric ones when I order them, but uh chef prepared meals that
59:19
are dietitian approved. They've got more than 65 weekly meals. That's just
59:25
perfect. You know, you can get any kind of uh types of selections you want. You know, they have global flavors. I I've
59:31
never tried these ones. Uh Asian inspired meals with bold flavors influenced by China, Thailand, and other
59:37
fantastic cuisines. It's perfect. Like if you got to do a a a podcast or something, right? You're looking at, oh
59:43

autorenewing subscription purchase. All right, AirPods 3. This one was super exciting. I was like totally blown away
1:00:28
by these. Griffin, tell us about it. Updated AirPods Pro 3. They feature
1:00:33
quote the best noise cancellation of any in-ear wireless headphones according to
1:00:38
Kate Burggeron thanks to a quote custom multiport acoustic architecture whatever
1:00:44
that is. They had some cool animations of like things flowing in and out of the AirPods through like the ventricle ports
1:00:53
and vents and things. Uh and foam infused ear tips. So they're they they
1:00:59
have foam on the inside of them, I guess, to for more sound absorption, like those fancy podcasting like foam
1:01:05
panels that they have, but inside your ear. Yeah. A lot of people use those foam ones. I mean, that's one of the biggest
1:01:11
upgrades of of AirPods anyway, isn't it? People buy foam ones, the kind of ones that you sort of um
1:01:16
like those squish between your fingers before you stuff them in your ears. Comply ear tips. Yeah. They they've got foam on the
1:01:22
inside so you don't have to deal with the squishiness or gunkiness, but you still have like the same nice rubber on
1:01:28
the inside. And they they give you more of them in the box. They now have five different sets of ear tips. I think they have a new extra extra small size for
1:01:36
people with smaller ears. I have the opposite problem. Apparently my ears are pretty big and and I guess my right ear
1:01:42
is larger than my left ear. So, oh, like the old wired earbuds, they would constantly fall out of my ears because
1:01:48
like the weight of them was the weight of the cord was too heavy and also like the earbuds wouldn't weren't filling the
1:01:54
space and especially the right one. Like it was impossible for me to I'd have to stand still as a statue to keep those
1:02:00
things in my ears. So, AirPods Pro are sadly what I need. As disgusting as my
1:02:05
ear wax is. Um, but you know, no one's going to be sharing them luckily. They
1:02:11
claim twice the noise cancelling power of the prior models u and also four
1:02:16
times the noise cancelling power of the original ones and four times the power as the AirPods 4 with&c. So a lot of lot
1:02:25
of strong noise reduction in these new ones. That I think is going to be pretty huge, isn't it? That if that's true because
1:02:31
they're already pretty good. And I I was wondering how much of that is due to the new ear tips and how much
1:02:36
of it is due to some, you know, software magic. They didn't necessarily break that out. These have the same chip inside them as
1:02:43
the old ones, the still the H2 chip. So, I imagine a lot of it is down to the physical design. They've just figured out how to engineer more sound
1:02:50
cancelling out of them. And that's great because my biggest use I I wear like generic Bluetooth earbuds all the time,
1:02:56
but my biggest use case for noise cancellation is when I'm mowing my lawn. You know, I' I've got like a big loud
1:03:02
gas push mower and, you know, it's I've got to turn on noise cancelling and still turn the volume up pretty high. I
1:03:09
bet I could probably, you know, save my ears a lot more with these. So, I'm looking forward to that. Uh, we have
1:03:14
more battery life thanks to their mysterious new battery technology. Eight hours of battery life with active noise
1:03:20
cancellation, which I think is up from 6 hours, and 10 hours of battery life when you're using them as hearing aids, which
1:03:27
I think is up from four. So, much longer battery life when you're in transparency
1:03:32
mode there. Uh they're more dust and water resistant. They've got IP57
1:03:37
rating on them, which is pretty neat. Good. Good enough for at gym workouts, right? For for sure. Easily. Easily.
1:03:44
Yeah. Uh, of course, the headlining feature, built-in heart rate monitoring, sort of
1:03:50
like the Power Beats Pro 2. Uh, my understanding is the Power Beats Pro 2 aren't very accurate in terms of heart
1:03:56
rate. So, I'm kind of curious if this is maybe like better in some
1:04:02
way. I It does It does look like the the monitors. It might have been just because they, you know, blew up the
1:04:08
AirPod big on the screen, but it kind of looks like the heart rate sensor is bigger on this than it is on the Power Beats Pro 2. And that might make it more
1:04:15
accurate just by virtue. I think the um the foam tips will have a will will will will contribute to that to the accuracy
1:04:21
because it'll keep them more in space. Like I think some of the criticism I saw was that if they're bouncing around
1:04:27
inside your ear canal, it l it you know, it can't keep the sort of connection with your skin and they can't read it
1:04:32
the the heart rate properly. So, you know, you get better reading when it's kept more firmly in your ear. And I was
1:04:38
wondering whether when as soon as I heard about the fun test, I wonder was wondering, oh, I wonder if that has something to do with trying to improve heart rate accuracy as well as, you
1:04:45
know, sound isolation. Okay. I mean, the thing is like the the heart rate monitoring is only useful really if you don't have an Apple Watch
1:04:51
and you have like or or especially if you have like an Android phone or something like that and it's your only way of getting your heart rate, you
1:04:57
know, if you're not like on gym equipment. I wonder how it'll if if I'll be able to directly compare that heart
1:05:04
rate monitor to like my Apple Watch. I wonder if I can run both simultaneously and see. Well, you could if you if you connected
1:05:11
to different devices, for sure. Oh, yeah, that's true. I might do that. I'll see what I can do. Yeah, because I really I really am curious how
1:05:17
how accurate they are because the Apple Watch has got just like a much better read on your wrist.
1:05:22
We'll see. Well, they say Apple itself says if if you're wearing an Apple Watch and these earbuds, it'll it'll um preference the
1:05:28
watch, which isn't a good sign. That makes it sound like uh you know that it the watch
1:05:34
is going to be more accurate. Um, but yeah, we'll see. Yeah. Uh, we've got live translation.
1:05:41
They've got a new gesture for this. You touch and hold. I They didn't explain it, but they did show it in the video
1:05:46
where they show somebody like touching both of the AirPods simultaneously to activate it. It's my god, this is crazy stuff. This
1:05:52
is like science fiction madness. I mean, you know, could you ever believe a few years ago that you would get this, you know, stick a babbleish in your ear and
1:05:58
it would give you like translate on the fly what someone is saying to you in a foreign language. Yeah. Pretty insane. Um, and it it's
1:06:05
really clever how it works in tandem with the active noise cancellation so that it tones down what the person is
1:06:10
saying in a foreign language that you hear the translation better. It's a it's it's pretty insane. I I'm
1:06:16
really curious to to test test this out as well because I know of a I have a few friends who speak French and so I want
1:06:22
to try it out with them. Um Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, this is going to be super exciting because the one weird thing is that if the if your
1:06:28
the internet the person you're talking to doesn't have AirPods Pro, they have no way to translate what you're saying.
1:06:34
So, it'll transcribe it and put it on your phone so you can show them. Yeah. Hi. Here's what I just said.
1:06:40
It's kind of wild. I mean, I I could see this going horribly wrong, though. I mean, like, what if a translation isn't
1:06:46
quite right? It's it's kind of weird, you know, uh taking that person's voice
1:06:52
and muting it down and just having this weird robot voice in your head telling you what they said. Uh I mean that
1:07:00
looked great in the video. I I'll be very curious to see how it works in real life.
1:07:06
It's insane. It It only works with a small number of languages. I think French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish.
1:07:12
No, no, Spanish wasn't one of them. Spanish is coming. It didn't. Yeah. Oh, that I was surprised by that,
1:07:17
too. But Spanish is not one of the the the initial ones. I wanted to do like, you know, Tagalague
1:07:24
or, you know, Japanese, you know, some language that's like you you don't have even a single clue what the person is
1:07:31
saying. I mean, or Vietnamese that even if you know the language, it takes like years of learning how to annunciate and pronounce
1:07:37
everything exactly right. Yeah. I mean, that would if they can get this to work in all these languages
1:07:43
eventually. Although even the translate app is fairly limited still at this point. I I can't remember exactly how
1:07:48
many languages. Google translate. How many? They they offer quite a lot of the languages. Yeah, they have a ton. They have a ton.
1:07:54
It's it's much much much broader than than Apple translate currently. Apple translate I think is only like 20
1:08:00
or 30 languages, but I thought it was even lower like 14 or 20 or something. But uh yeah, it's again
1:08:06
that looked great on the screen. I I'll be very curious to see how it works. I mean, especially the thing like what
1:08:11
you're saying like if if you both have AirPods, Pro you just like talking to each other
1:08:17
through your earbuds somehow. I mean, robots talking to each other. That's super uncanny and weird.
1:08:24
But if it works, I mean, hey, you know, especially if you like don't have any idea what the
1:08:30
language is. It could be fantastic. Although the the interactions in the video were kind of corny, too, you know,
1:08:35
like, oh, everybody's like, so it's so natural to just be talking to somebody uh on their phone. I don't know. It's
1:08:42
kind of weird. Oh, here. Hello. Here's my flower shop. These flowers are 50% off, right? How much are the geraniums? How
1:08:49
much are the geraniums? It says Google Translate offers 249
1:08:55
languages while Apple translate. So, what's 19? Yeah. Oh my god. It's really it's deficient.
1:09:02
Yeah. And I actually don't know if they specify like it supports those languages, but does it support all of them between each other or just those to
1:09:08
English and back? That's another question because the thing is like the more languages you add, you then have it becomes more work
1:09:14
to add each individual language because then you have to make sure it's language to all the other languages. So
1:09:20
I I think it Well, I no actually I don't know because I've only ever tried to go uh English to other languages.
1:09:28
The buds are a little smaller. They're the AirPods Pro 2 were a little more
1:09:33
like bigger and angular. These ones are a little more rounded, kind of closer in shape to the AirPods 4. Um, so it's
1:09:39
interesting how they're tweaking that still. Uh, the buds are a little smaller. The case is ever so slightly
1:09:45
larger. What the Yeah, that's weird as can be. Uh, a few like fractions of a millimeter
1:09:50
in like each dimension. I've heard a lot of people like complain about the relatively large size of the case. Is it
1:09:56
solid state now? Because there was a lot of talk about they're going to lose the button and make it a solid state button and if you wanted the pairing where
1:10:02
you're going to have to tap on it, but I don't see any mention of that. So, it probably is because that's how the AirPods 4 work.
1:10:08
The same button then the same the same design rather on the the Pro case. I think so, but I haven't confirmed
1:10:14
that. I I'll take a look. This one was an instant buy for me. I mean, no no question about it. partly because uh my other ones had really
1:10:21
fallen to pieces. But um yeah, there's no question these these things are great and and I I was testing them out trying
1:10:26
to you know figure out whether they sound which sounded better the Power Beats Pro or the mild AirPods Pro 2 and
1:10:32
definitely AirPods Pro 2 and they say that the AirPods Pro 3 I guess we didn't mention I didn't put in the notes here but they supposedly sound
1:10:39
even better. They say it has like a wider sound stage which is you know how big this the stereo sounds when you're
1:10:45
when you're listening to music. uh broader broader range, more bass. So,
1:10:51
yeah, better bass. Better bass. Yeah. And again, same $249 price. So, heck of
1:10:56
an upgrade. Yeah. I I mean, this is a tempting one for me. And I am perfectly happy with my
1:11:03
uh AirPods Pro 2. I you know, I I don't want the batteries to go bad on them. I
1:11:09
don't want to lose one down a drain. I don't want anything like that to happen. But, uh, it it's a little hard to to like get rid of them, you know, cuz
1:11:16
they're just fine. But, uh, I don't know. I mean, the thing is the new ones I I
1:11:22
guess we should mention this, the new ones have the same H2 chip in them. So, I can't imagine these having like like
1:11:28
the AirPods Pro 2 were like had such staying power. Apple kept adding more features to them over the years. I don't
1:11:33
see the AirPods Pro 3 being like that long lasting or, you know, continuous improvement after the product is out
1:11:40
because it has the same chip in it. Like for example, the the the live translation feature is also coming to the old AirPods Pro 2 as well, right?
1:11:46
That's not exclusive to these. Yeah, that was another thing that uh it's like h well maybe I'll just wait.
1:11:53
You know, it's appealing that they're slightly smaller and the ear tips it sounds like they're might be more comfortable.
1:11:59
Honestly, I'd say if you have Pro 2 and they still work, don't bother upgrading to the Pro 3. Wait for them to break
1:12:04
first. It's It's hard to It's hard to do. Yeah. Funny. Uh, AirPods Max. Not one
1:12:10
peep. No update to that.
1:12:15
Let's move on to products. Apple still cares about the Apple Watch. Right. Exactly.
1:12:21
Oh my god. Yeah. Tell us about the Series 11, Louis. Apple Watch Series 11. Uh, comes with
1:12:26
the hypertension alerts and 24hour battery life. That That's like maybe the
1:12:33
the biggest but most mundane boost. Uh, as opposed to 18. It's always been 18
1:12:39
hours. Now, through some battery engineer, re-engineering or whatever, they're now able to squeeze out 24 hours
1:12:45
of battery life, which means it definitely will get you through the day. Uh they also added 5G cellular
1:12:52
connectivity, which uh you know, blah blah blah. 5G is just faster. And I I
1:12:57
don't know, honestly, uh Graham, our resident Apple Watch expert, was like
1:13:02
absolutely over the moon, thrilled 5G cellular connectivity. And and I was like, well, I don't know. It's It's
1:13:08
okay, I guess. But, you know, I've I actually I have one Apple Watch. Well,
1:13:14
actually, the Ultra has uh you know, cellular connectivity by I don't pay to
1:13:19
have a sec a second line on my Apple Watch cuz I take my phone with me everywhere. But I realized after talking with Graham, it's like he goes on these
1:13:26
five mile runs every day, right? and well not every day or whatever but uh often times he works out a lot and and
1:13:33
so he doesn't want to carry his phone when he goes out running so he uses cellular he's like it's insane that
1:13:38
they've only had LTE until now so he is super psyched about if if if you're one of those people who is in shape uh has a
1:13:47
better lifestyle than me you might be thrilled about this uh like honestly like 5G whatever but Apple
1:13:53
says that it'll actually get better cell coverage and better power efficiency so Yeah. Hey, even if you don't care about 5G,
1:13:59
that you know, right? That's probably that's probably whether some of the battery stuff is coming in. Maybe that's what that's what Graham was
1:14:05
saying too. But then again, like it's 24hour battery life for everyone, right? Even non-cellular models. So anyway,
1:14:12
yeah, um much more durable 4x four times more
1:14:17
crack resistant glass. They don't they don't call it ceramic shield, but they do describe it in a virtually identical way. They said it is
1:14:24
a custom Apple designed ceramic coating that bonds to the glass at an atomic level, but for some reason they don't
1:14:30
call it ceramic shield. Yeah. Which is weird. Yeah. And and you know, back to the hypertension thing. I mean to me this
1:14:36
was like the the the marquee feature I thought very interested in it. Uh this
1:14:42
is a quote from Dr. Sul Amad Desai, Apple's VP of health. says, "Using data
1:14:48
from the optical heart sensor, which by the way is in other uh Apple Watches, uh
1:14:54
using data from the optical heart sensor, the algorithm looks for chronic high blood pressure by analyzing how
1:14:59
your blood vessels respond to beats of the heart. The algorithm works in the background, reviewing data over 30-day
1:15:05
periods and will notify you if it identifies patterns of hypertension. This is like all the other, not all,
1:15:12
like many of the other Apple Watch health things. It's monitoring what's going on in the background. It's saying,
1:15:18
"Hey, you might have a problem. Hey, you might have sleep apnea because we've looked at your sleep patterns for the
1:15:24
past seven days and it seems as if this." Or, "Hey, your heartbeat seems high. Maybe you should check this out."
1:15:31
Um, and I think Apple's guidance on this is if if you get one of these alerts, you should go out and buy a a a cuff, a
1:15:39
blood pressure cuff, and actually check to see if if you have a problem. I think
1:15:44
a lot of us were imagining like when we heard these rumors like oh for them to add blood pressure monitoring it'd probably only be on the OP watch and I
1:15:50
think we even heard rumors that like Apple developed like a special watch band like that inflated on your wrist
1:15:55
like no this isn't cuts off the circulation to your hand. Yeah, you don't have to do that. This is
1:16:01
this is like science fiction. Like analyzing how your blood vessels respond to beats of the heart and they can
1:16:07
detect hypertension. That's insane. It is. It's madness. It's absolutely madness. And this they're hoping to get
1:16:13
a million people in the first year, right? After they they put this in. Well, it's called the silent killer
1:16:18
because it's asymptomatic. You don't know you've got it until you have a horrible stroke or a massive heart attack and then oh god, you know, you've
1:16:24
got you've got high blood pressure. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure last year and and taking daily medication to manage it. Um it's for me
1:16:32
I think it's genetic. Um maybe a bit of lifestyle too, but uh it um yeah, you
1:16:38
know, it it it mine was really alarming. It went up in a couple of years, like super high. And luckily the doctor
1:16:45
noticed it because, you know, every time you go to the doctor, they they take your blood pressure with a cuff. And he'd seen that it was going up for a
1:16:50
couple of years, but I had no idea I had it. I hadn't had it didn't affect my bike riding, nothing. Um, very very glad that uh I'm trying to
1:16:57
manage it. And for most people, you know, they'd have no idea they've got it. I think this is massive, huge, huge
1:17:03
contribution to to health monitoring, like, you know, really, really useful. Uh and it's one it's the leading cause
1:17:10
of heart attacks and strokes uh affecting like I think 1.3 billion people a year. Yeah. And kidney in kidney problems.
1:17:16
Yeah. 1.3 billion is what the World Health Organization says. Yeah. Um and they they really play when they
1:17:22
introduced the Apple Watch segment, they really played it up like if you don't buy an Apple Watch, you will die. Like
1:17:29
but you know, saving a million lives, they've earned the right to play ads like that, you know. Yeah. Right. And that was a really
1:17:35
compelling uh section of the of the of the or dropping event, you know, when it when when people were talking about that, you know, that how their lives
1:17:40
have been saved by the Apple Watch. And it's true. It's amaz It really is true. This thing will save your life in many different ways. Not just detecting
1:17:46
hypertension, but also, you know, fall detection, crash detection, being able to pinpoint you if you're out in the
1:17:51
wilderness. I mean, satellite connectivity, satellite madness. It connects with satellites spinning 200 miles above the Earth.
1:17:57
Well, the Ultra does. Not this one. The Ultra big one. Yeah. So, not this one. Yeah. But uh yeah, I mean I I was
1:18:04
excited about the hypertension thing. Um and in fact I you know on the verge of
1:18:09
buying one of these watches or pre-ordering one uh and then I realized that the hypertension thing is also coming to Apple Watch Ultra 2 and other
1:18:16
uh other older models like Series 9, Series 10. So uh my marquee feature of
1:18:22
this one but also available like as a free gift to you from Apple which I think is awesome. I mean the fact that
1:18:27
they are turning this on so that everybody who has you know what is like
1:18:33
the last three years of Apple watches uh can take advantage of it I think it's it's fantastic. Um it's uh Apple admits
1:18:41
it can't detect all cases of hypertension of course and they always kind of backpedal not backpedal but
1:18:47
downplay you know all this stuff because it's not a medical device although it's you know food and drug administration
1:18:53
clearance is expected quote soon supposedly rolling out in 150 countries. I mean that's going to be a great a
1:18:59
great great thing and I I you know like like you said Apple says they expect a
1:19:05
you know a million people will uh with undiagnosed hypertension will identify
1:19:10
that they have a problem in the first year which is kind of a huge number and if it's true that's that's fantastic
1:19:15
especially if you can make lifestyle changes or take medication that can you know
1:19:20
it's highly treatable highly highly treatable yeah but you can't treat it if you don't know know about it right so uh
1:19:26
like you said 24-hour battery life, you know, which works great because now it can it's easier to wear it all day and
1:19:33
all night and it's got this new sleep score thing that they're rolling out in uh watch OS 26 that also works in older
1:19:40
watches, but uh that actually works back as far as the series 6. Wow. Yeah. And so that's going to that's
1:19:45
going to tell you how well you slept last night and how ready you are for the day and uh explain things to you like oh
1:19:52
well you'd had a higher score if you know for instance you had not stayed up till 2 a.m. or you know, whatever. Uh
1:20:00
at the bar, right? Zooming in on the drink menu, right? Yeah. Uh let's see. Two new watch faces. Flow, which is kind of like the
1:20:07
liquid glass lava lamp look, and uh exactograph. Uh aluminum models, as per usual, they
1:20:15
come in silver, space black, and gold, and space gray. Titanium
1:20:21
uh models come in silver, gray, and gold. Let's see. Yeah,
1:20:26
they have Isn't it polished titanium? So, they all have I didn't notice that.
1:20:31
Uh they have kind of they have a they're pretty shiny, kind of chromy looking. Yeah, they they've brought back uh space
1:20:38
gray on the aluminum ones, like the matte gray. And this is maybe like the
1:20:44
lightest I want to say it looks like one of the lightest space grays they've ever done cuz it's not like the old one which
1:20:49
was like, you know, very dark gray. It's like barely darker silver. Do you think it looks good? Does it look a nice
1:20:55
looking color? Uh, no. Just get the silver, honestly. But it replaces Starlight, which was
1:21:00
like virtually unidentifiable from silver. So, who knows?
1:21:07
So, there's space black and space gray. Space black is the polished one, kind of
1:21:13
like the jet black iPhone. Uh, space gray is literally like 10% darker silver. I don't know why they're doing
1:21:18
it. Huh. Interesting. Nice looking watches though, aren't they? I mean, very thin. nice big
1:21:23
screen. I love the way the screen sort of curves over the the top. Um the the the you know, is it the same
1:21:30
do they use the same coating in the as the Ultra? Because this thing hasn't got a scratch on it. Um despite me, you
1:21:36
know, blundering into all kinds of stuff and and and and falling over. I It doesn't have a mark on it. I mean, even
1:21:41
my older watches don't have a mark on them. They are durable as heck. I I've got a few like, you know, corner scratches like around the around the
1:21:48
curve of the glass, but you know, I'm still on the Series 7. still have no interest in buying a new one because it still works pretty well for me. But uh
1:21:54
yeah, these I I'm excited about this by the Series 11. I know that when I do upgrade, I'll get a pretty excellent watch. Awesome product. And let's move on
1:22:01
quickly to the Ultra 3, which um I was really, you know, like I've got the Ultra 2 here that the um and you know, I
1:22:09
love this thing. Wear it all day, every day. And uh the Ultra 3 looks looks
1:22:14
looks looks like a really nice I mean, there was a lot of criticism. This wasn't much of an upgrade from the original Ultra, but the Ultra 3 does
1:22:20
look like a pretty um good upgrade um from the Ultra 2.
1:22:25
It's really playing like catch-up, getting a lot of the advantages that the Series 10 got last year.
1:22:31
Okay. Yeah. It it has the wide angle OLED for brighter at different angles.
1:22:37
Yeah. I I don't find the angle that, you know, much trouble seeing at different angles, so I don't know how much bigger of an upgrade it is. It has 24% thinner
1:22:45
bezels. um which allows them to use an even bigger display, the largest in an Apple Watch. And I saw uh at the
1:22:51
hands-on someone had the Ultra, they were wearing the Ultra 2 and the Ultra 3 on their wrist at the same time. And to
1:22:57
be honest, I mean, you could see the difference, but it's barely noticeable. I think in terms of resolution, it's
1:23:02
only like six points or like 12 pixels taller. It is It is virtually nothing at
1:23:07
all, but they really just wanted to make make it clear that the the watch is the biggest display of all of the Apple watches
1:23:13
again. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's a nice big display, so you know, you can't knock him for that. Um, it has it can
1:23:19
also adjust his refresh rate as low as one hertz, uh, with always on disa enabled. Excuse me. Uh, and that allows
1:23:27
you to update the watch face once a second down from once a minute. Mhm. So, actually that is a cool, you know,
1:23:33
surprising enough that's I think it's a really cool feature because then you can get the ticking um second
1:23:40
hand on an analog watch face. And supposedly and in watch OS 26, they've added support for the the
1:23:45
ticking second hands to I think like 20 more watch faces. So, it'll be animated on many more of the the watch faces.
1:23:52
That's a cool feature. My mom's got an older watch, you know, that that that has a that doesn't have an always on face and and you look at you go, "What
1:23:58
what what antiquated piece of junk is that?" I mean, it's horrible. Having the
1:24:04
always on watch face is a super super cool feature. Yeah. What a what a difference that makes.
1:24:09
Uh so like the 5G uh sorry, like the CS 11, it gets 5G uh and uh satellite
1:24:15
connectivity as well. So Graham's going to be super excited about that. uh claim battery life are now up to 42 hours and
1:24:21
this can be extended to 72 hours in low power mode. So um I mean battery life isn't a problem with the with the Ultra.
1:24:27
You can watch it all wear it all night and all day anyway but 42 hours is pretty good. Um so it says you can work
1:24:33
out for 20 continuous hours. Handy for the ultramarathon. Handy for Graeme. I I wonder how long
1:24:39
until Graham does a 20our continuous workout. He's probably doing one right now. I I'm paired with him. You know that horrible
1:24:45
feature where you can pair to see someone's workouts. Oh, no. Yeah, I know. So, I of all the people I'm paired with, I'm paired with Graham
1:24:51
Bower, the world's fittest man. So, every day while I'm lying on the couch, you know, drinking, eating cookies, he's
1:24:57
gone on some seven mile run. Graham compete completed a workout. I'm sure he did. Yeah,
1:25:03
Graham completed a workout. 60minute weightlifting. God, what's with this guy?
1:25:09
I've got to I've got to I've got to unpair it. I'm sure he gets my alerts, too. Le got up on the couch to get
1:25:14
another beer. Louis closed his stand ring.
1:25:22
Yeah. Yeah. Uh the Hermes model comes with a a rubber band and some kind of weird 8bit
1:25:30
horsey watch face. I was really shocked by that. They they were making a big deal about this. said, "Oh yeah, it's got an exclusive new watch face and it
1:25:35
looks like it's Mac Paint on the original is." But then I saw a tweet um Steve
1:25:44
Moser I think broke down all the different animations and and they had this huge long tweet that was
1:25:49
like page after page and it was all the different animations that this thing has and on your birthday it'll give you some
1:25:55
special thing at Christmas time it does something special. Um it's like an advent calendar or what?
1:26:00
Yeah. Yeah. But uh there's all kind of different, you know, it's like the Snoopy watch. My mom has a Snoopy watch
1:26:06
face and and she gets a great delight out of like, you know, lifting it up and every time she lifts it up, you know, something else goes on. Tweety Bird or
1:26:12
whatever the name of the little bird is, you know, does something and Snoopy does something else. Um that's super fun. I
1:26:18
mean, um anyway, the the the Hermes I've never been tempted by a Hermes model watch, but uh
1:26:23
I'm surprised that they made one for the Apple Watch Ultra out of rubber, like rubber bands for them. Like that's that's a nice looking band, I
1:26:30
think. Yeah. Fact. Nice. Woodstock is the name of Snoopy's bird friend. Oh, Woodstock. That's right. Of course.
1:26:36
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Fact check. The the Airmes models are $12,000.
1:26:42
Well, the regular one though is the same $799 price, which is actually kind of, you know, bit rich for a watch. 800
1:26:48
bucks. That's a lot of money. Uh they do go on sale though, didn't they? I mean, it went on sale uh to 620, I want to
1:26:55
say. So, it's a pretty good discount the first sales, but they didn't come for a
1:27:00
long time after it had been introduced. God, I I didn't even realize that there
1:27:06
was a Hermes version of the Apple Watch Ultra. Is Was there one in the past or is this the first one?
1:27:12
I don't know if they it it's been done before, but they they definitely made like more of a more of a thing about it.
1:27:19
They have multiple different models and they a lot of the Airmes watch faces are just truly bizarre. They had one that
1:27:25
was just like a like weird cartoon horse face. Like this is not the first one they've done that's just head
1:27:31
scratching. That was a really ugly one too. Yeah, they do have I think there are some actually nicel looking ones. Some of the
1:27:37
analog ones are actually quite nice looking. Yeah, I mean the square analog one I I I really I'm a real big fan of that. I was
1:27:43
genuinely disappointed that they never like sort of did their own regular plebeian style version of that.
1:27:50
Yeah. you know, the the one where it's it's an analog watch face, but the numbers just are like square around the edge of the watch, you know? I I'd like
1:27:57
one like that. But and the the new um what was it called? The the new watch face they they rolled
1:28:03
out for this one. Oh, it's uh I think like way point or something like that. So, it's got a compass in the middle of the dial and
1:28:10
then around the rim of that, it'll show you like marked locations or nearby
1:28:15
stuff that's around you like on Apple Maps. So, you know, you can mark, oh yeah, my tent is over here, my car is
1:28:20
over there, and it'll show you like wherever you are, like the relative positions, like, you know, as the crow
1:28:26
flies, the direction you need to walk to get to the nearest store or campsite or
1:28:32
stuff like that, which is pretty cool. I I like that one. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I like those. I really love those information dense
1:28:38
displays and the interactive ones, too. Although I've never used them, but they are cool to look at. Yeah. And it it has like 12
1:28:43
complications on it. Yeah. Yeah. I love it. All right, Lois, we're running out of time. How about the
1:28:49
Apple Watch SE3? Let's wrap it up with that. Yeah. Well, uh Oh, I'm sorry. What am I talking about?
1:28:55
Yeah. No, we're not going to wrap up. We got something very important and humiliating to go through.
1:29:01
Uh but Apple Watch SE3, you know, lots of our headline says pro features. I
1:29:07
don't know. I guess maybe they are pro. It's kind of amazing how much better they made this watch. I I was going
1:29:13
through it and trying to figure out what the difference is. uh lengthy list of upgrades in this one. It It's now it's
1:29:19
got an always on display. Awesome. With 4x stronger crack resistant glass. Uh
1:29:24
the display is smaller than the uh series 11. It's a 44 millimeter and 40
1:29:29
mm and it's not as bright. Only goes up to a,000 nits which to be honest that is
1:29:35
not that bright and it is nice to have a super bright screen when you're outside. I think the display is still the
1:29:41
slightly smaller size that doesn't have an onscreen keyboard. I don't think like the size of the display has gotten any
1:29:47
bigger on the SE3 versus the SE2. Oh, I I meant it's what I meant was smaller size than the Series 11.
1:29:53
Oh, yeah. Um because I was just trying to as I was going through this trying to like figure
1:29:58
out like what's the difference between this series 11. Uh it's got because it's got the same Apple S10 chip, faster
1:30:04
charging than it than it used to have. Now supposedly 0 to 80% in about 45 minutes, 15 minutes for up to eight
1:30:10
hours. 5G option. Still got and it's got temperature sensor. Uh supports gestures
1:30:16
like double tap and wrist flick. It does the sleep score and sleep app notifications. Works with the workout
1:30:22
buddy, which I Oh my god. I I don't think we've mentioned the workout buddy much, but I I
1:30:27
Oh, I I've been using it, but I've been mowing my lawn. I have thoughts on that, but we'll probably get to it next week. I'm not very excited about the workout
1:30:33
buddy, but uh media playback through the speaker in the SE3 first time. So, uh
1:30:39
sounds like a great watch. Okay, I'm trying to figure out what doesn't it have? Well, it doesn't have the hyper hypertension notifications. Doesn't have
1:30:45
the ECG and blood oxygen apps. Doesn't have precision finding for iPhone. Just
1:30:51
just regular old finding. No precision. Uh, and I didn't realize this. It It
1:30:56
doesn't have a metal back. It's nylon composite and sapphire crystal back, which it's not the first time for that,
1:31:01
but anyway. Also, no depth gauge and no water temperature sensor. So, you know, but you get all this other stuff. 249
1:31:09
bucks. Comes in Midnight and Starlight. Um I mean it's it's a pretty capable
1:31:15
watch. So yeah, that's a great starter watch. Really? Mhm. Yeah. Yeah. Heck of a bargain. I I think
1:31:21
uh Ed Hardy, our you know resident writer, was due for an upgrade. He's still on a series 3 if you can believe
1:31:27
that. I guess he must be some kind of massochist, but that's not my business. But uh he he wasn't sure like which which model he would be upgrading to,
1:31:33
you know, SE3 or the regular series 11. But, you know, he got the SE3 cuz it's a
1:31:39
very good mix of features. It won't save your life uh as much if, you know, if
1:31:45
you have hypertension, but uh or low blood oxygen, but other than that, it's a pretty good one. Pretty good watch.
1:31:51
For sure. For sure. Yeah. I mean, I think it's, you know, great especially for, you know, younger people, you know, kids. Great for kids.
1:31:57
Great for younger younger people who aren't, you know, in the danger zone of having hypertension yet. Although, you
1:32:03
know, you know, it could be any age, I suppose. But uh well the hypertension doesn't work with
1:32:08
people under 22 I saw. Right. Oh really? Yeah that was a weird one. I was like 22. What what what in the I did not hear
1:32:15
that. What's the what's the what's what's this? Well it was an this is an unconfirmed
1:32:21
tweet of course. I see. No I saw that as well. I think that was in like the footnotes of one of the
1:32:27
Apple product pages. I I guess it just must be their research only allows them to test it on that or
1:32:33
something like that. you know only only after you hit 22 your blood vessels start to oify.
1:32:40
Yeah. Yeah. I guess. Yeah. I mean like overall I thought what
1:32:46
an amazing roundup of products and it was kind of generally all dropping you
1:32:51
know for the first time I think the hype kind of the reality matched the hype that you know it was like bang bang bang
1:32:58
AirPods 3 you know ultra iPhone 17 like all of them fabulous fabulous products
1:33:04
across the line and very few you know like not above the price I guess you know but you know no major drawbacks on
1:33:11
any of them that I could I could really. I mean, there's obviously compromises, but nothing no dirt amongst them.
1:33:17
Mhm. Yeah. And and the SE and all the all the other ones, you know, like the extending
1:33:25
those hypertension and uh you know, what was the other thing that they're extend?
1:33:31
Oh, yeah. Live translation. Giving these these brand new features to older devices. I mean, I don't know. It was
1:33:36
like the least greedy Apple keynote ever. I mean, you know, the the Air didn't cost $12.99 with a $200 battery
1:33:44
pack. It was $9.99 and and and 999. Uh,
1:33:50
so I I don't know. It was It was quite strange. I mean, I I just kept feeling, wow, they're they're like
1:33:56
they didn't raise their prices. I mean, just the one. Well, they they raised they raised the base model price of the iPhone Pro. like
1:34:02
they they you know to get an iPhone 17 Pro you do have to spend $10.99 which is
1:34:08
more than before but they they're willing Apple is willing to give up the uh 7 cent 256 GB memory chip and give
1:34:15
you that for free so Right. Yeah. But I mean overall like I was a little scared there was going to
1:34:20
be some massive hikes uh because of tariffs and uncertainty about tariffs
1:34:26
and all that but they kept everything very much the same and uh I don't know
1:34:33
like not that I think of Apple as a greedy company but I mean they do make a lot of money and this this almost felt
1:34:38
like like just generous in a way you know like here's all these this great
1:34:43
new stuff and you don't even have to pay for some of it you know who already are going to get it. So,
1:34:48
yeah, I thought I thought it was an impressive event and it was nice a nice nice short short and sweet event, you know, very quick,
1:34:54
very snappy, a lot of um information of course, you know, a lot of things coming at you, but um it wasn't uh you know, it
1:35:01
wasn't laborious. Didn't have any of those really creative cuts, did it? You know, there was no
1:35:08
Craig Craig Federy jumping out of a plane. Yeah. Which I I'm kind of, you know, I didn't miss those. I don't really care.
1:35:14
I I actually really glad to see all the the the stores as well. Um although the Miami thing at the beginning was a bit
1:35:19
weird. I thought is this in GTA or something where there was a lot there was a lot of Miami but um then it then
1:35:26
it it went to all these different different ones and I wasn't familiar with that Brooklyn store. The New York one is in Brooklyn.
1:35:32
Uh I didn't even I'd never seen that before and I was like what the heck is that? I had to go look it up afterwards. That's a nice looking store. Crazy
1:35:37
looking store. Did Did they Did they identify the locations? Some some of the skyline shots made it
1:35:44
pretty obvious like there was the one that they had in Chicago and you could tell because of like the you could clearly see like the John Hancock
1:35:49
Center, but they but they didn't put on the screen Apple
1:35:54
they should have gone full Marvel movie like Chicago. Exactly. Exactly. That would have been kind of cool.
1:36:00
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, let's move on to I guess the highlight of the show,
1:36:06
the um the dropping predictions. How did we do? Who who got the most things
1:36:12
right? I think I dropped my awe. Yeah, I don't have very high high hopes about this. If you didn't listen to last week's show
1:36:18
and you're just tuning in for the news, last week we placed our predictions for what we think would happen, what would
1:36:23
be announced. Uh I tried to make them a little tricky. We'll start with the uh iPhone section. And we're running long
1:36:30
so I'll go do these a little quick. You can check out this full graph if you want to take a look and you're only
1:36:35
listening at dgffinjones.com. My website dgerjones.com. This will be the top post there or you can click the
1:36:41
link in the show notes and read all these as I go through them, take them in in more detail.
1:36:46
The iPhone section, new iPhone is named Air. It actually is only named Air. I
1:36:52
sort of kept the number out of this pick because I was also going to make like a pick on, you know, whether it would be 17 or 26, but uh yep, we all we all
1:36:59
guessed Air and we were all correct. Uh new iPhones are number 26. Nope, they're
1:37:04
just 17. Who would have ever thought that? Leander would have thought that and he lost a point.
1:37:11
I just did that to be to be contrarian. Yeah. New A series chips are number 26. I was genuinely hoping this would
1:37:17
happen. I didn't vote for it, but you know, no, they're still different numbers. So now we now we're dealing
1:37:23
with three different numbers. iPhone 17, A19 chip, iOS 26. Uh something like, you
1:37:28
know, the A series chips, those aren't as big of like a marketing thing. Maybe they'll be synchronized. No. Um, Pro
1:37:34
iPhones come in an undeniably vibrant orange color. Leander and Lewis weren't as optimistic, but you know what? I
1:37:40
think it is undeniably orange. I protest. I protest. Right. This one is kind of debatable.
1:37:46
What? Okay, that is an orange phone. I don't think you can argue that. Is it a vibrant orange phone though?
1:37:53
It's It's cosmic territory. You found one picture which maybe makes it look a little less vibrant. I think
1:37:59
it is pretty undeniably vibrant. might have to I got to admit. Yeah. Yeah. Uh Apple makes a lanyard
1:38:06
strap. We all get a point for that. Um Techwoven cases claim more durability than fine woven. I'll say they didn't
1:38:13
say this during the event, but I think the text that they've had on the press releases which talk about its protective
1:38:18
coating and stain resistant, whatever. I think that counts for it. Satellite connectivity is still free for everyone.
1:38:25
Uh that's a point lost for me and Leander. I thought, well, it's been three years now. Surely they can't just
1:38:30
kick the can down the road again. Yep, they have. Just All right. And they
1:38:36
still say they've extended the free trial for the iPhone 14 owners and newer. So, who knows? Maybe they'll
1:38:42
extend it again next year in perpetuity. And yes, a price point was raised by at least $100. So, that's a point for
1:38:48
Leander and I. So, at this stage, after the iPhone section, I I think I'm ahead
1:38:55
and Leander's a little behind, but a little Then we move on to the Apple Watch section.
1:39:03
Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3 feature 5G cellular. That's a point for
1:39:08
Lewis and Leander. Apple Watch Ultra 3 gain satellite communication. That's a point for Leander. And I Apple Watch
1:39:14
Ultra 3 has some kind of blood pressure monitoring. That's a point for Leander. Neocolorful plastic Apple Watch SE did
1:39:20
not happen. Uh so that's a point for Leander. This is more like it. Look at that. It's clean sweep.
1:39:26
Perfect screen. If Apple only announced Apple watches, you would have won, Leander. Wow. Yeah. Oh, are you saying are you
1:39:33
are you giving away the whole game there? We'll see. Other hardware app AirPods Pro 3 with
1:39:40
health sensors and smaller case. This case is slightly larger. So, that's actually a point lost for all of us.
1:39:46
No really other new hardware. So, that's pretty much points across the board. Um, no new smart display, no new Apple
1:39:53
TV, nothing else. A lot of people were hoping for Air Tag 2, but that didn't happen. Uh, miscellaneous section. Apple
1:40:02
spends over five minutes re over five minutes reintroducing iOS 26 and liquid glass. They barely talked about it.
1:40:07
I am I was actually legitimately stunned by that. So, that's a point for me. Um, I
1:40:13
foolishly voted for Apple reintroducing a smarter agent to Siri. So,
1:40:19
never pin your hopes on Siri. Yeah. Point for Louiswis and Leander. Here's an interesting one. A new product
1:40:25
is 100% carbon neutral. They actually went backwards and are no longer claiming any product is 100% carbon
1:40:31
neutral. Really? So, they've removed all mentions of that from their website. They still have like the 2030 page up and they still say that
1:40:38
they want to be 100% carbon neutral by 2030, but um they they they they no longer claim the Apple Watch is carbon
1:40:45
neutral. So, that's a point for Leander because he voted against that. And
1:40:50
event runs over hour 25 minutes. Um, that is a point missed for all of us because uh it was pretty breezy quick.
1:40:57
I was stunned when when it's like they're wrapping it up. I'm like, "Wow, it's was it like a hour and 10, hour and
1:41:02
15 or something like that?" Hour and 12, I think. So, the winner is
1:41:09
Lewis with 10 points, Leander with 12 points, and Griffin with 12 points. Yes. So,
1:41:15
no clear winner. So, if the iPhone clear loser though,
1:41:20
Louis If the iPhone uh if the Ed Hardy ruling
1:41:26
on the vibrancy of Cosmic Orange is uh overturned this because we are appealing
1:41:31
to uh uh that would give Leander and me each one more point and you one less. So
1:41:36
then Leander would win. Yeah. Yeah. It hangs on the vibrancy call. I I I think it is pretty undeniably
1:41:42
vibrant. Um I think you need to look up the term vibrant. Okay. Okay. Well, I guess we'll get his
1:41:49
ruling on it if you would officially like to uh have have that judged.
1:41:54
But uh we'll crown our audience winners, assuming the vote isn't overturned and I
1:42:00
have to redo the section. Michael Dennis uh is a third time
1:42:05
winner. He says, "Third time winner. Can I get a guest article on the site? Have your people call my people." So, we'll
1:42:11
see about that. Shane Lother, another another third time winner, says, "Hey guys, love the show. Can't wait to get
1:42:17
my hands on the new iPhone Air. I'm right there with you. And uh another winner, Lee Cox, who didn't have
1:42:24
anything to plug, but um all those people won with 16 points out of 20. 16? Oh my god, they smoked us.
1:42:31
Mhm. And actually uh I I plug a bunch of uh all these votes and predictions into
1:42:36
a spreadsheet. If you go by the wisdom of the crowd, the average audience score would have been 13 out of 20. So,
1:42:43
god dang it, man. So, we're basically morons. Yeah. Honestly, Shane and Michael Dennis
1:42:49
should be doing the show because it sounds like they know more about it than us. But really,
1:42:55
congratulations to them. Really lost congrats. Lost it in the Apple Watch section.
1:43:00
Geez. Yeah. Thanks. Thanks for taking part everybody in this. Yeah, we we had the most votes that
1:43:06
we've uh ever had. So, great good amounts of audience. I love this competition. Even even though I lost, I love this competition.
1:43:13
I think it's great fun and uh it's it it's always weird looking at it and trying to figure out which rumors are
1:43:19
true and there's so many rumors about the iPhone, man. And so few about the
1:43:24
Apple Watch. Well, you know, I've been thinking about quizzes for the show and and you know, maybe maybe uh we we were talking about
1:43:31
um maybe getting people to vote on um the uh the setup section, but I as I
1:43:36
wonder, you know, whether maybe we should maybe we could look into doing quizzes, like a quiz every week. that
1:43:41
was something I'm definitely interested in in exploring if it's if it you know you know I think quizzes are fun and of course there's a lot of a lot of stuff
1:43:48
we can be quiz you know quizzing about um so anyway we're thinking about that if anyone's interested in quizzes yeah
1:43:54
send us uh send us send us text we'll go back to audience questions uh on on the next few days
1:44:00
going forwards again so send us your thoughts about the iPhone event send us your questions about the iPhones because
1:44:05
we'll probably have those two weeks from now all right cool I think that just about wraps it up that's all the coldcast we
1:44:10
have for you this week. If you want more, check out Lewis on Twitter at Lewis Wallace. Griffin is on Masttodon a
1:44:17
blue sky at DG Griffin Jones. And uh I write um the Colorm newsletter every day which you can get at
1:44:22
newsletters.colm.com. Send us a text at the uh using the link at the top of the show notes or on
1:44:28
YouTube comments and answers your questions to the show. Uh that's been the Coldcast, the best Apple long conversation, the best hourong Apple
1:44:35
conversation you're going to hear all week long. New episodes of the Coldcast come out every Thursday night. I want to thank you all guys for listening. Thanks
1:44:41
a lot. We'll see you next time. Have a great weekend, everybody. Goodbye. Get those pre-orders in.
1:44:47
Oh, yeah. Been waking up bright and early at a very comfortable 7:45.
1:44:54
Are you going to get up at 5 a.m.? I don't know. I mean, I guess maybe I've got a iPhone, you know, I got to I got
1:45:01
to upgrade because of the iPhone upgrade program. Uh
1:45:06
yeah, I guess I guess I will. I think last time when I woke up a couple of the bundles had been slapped up, but there
1:45:13
was generally pretty good availability for most of them because that was you know I don't know if that's going to be true this year.
1:45:19
Yeah, I wonder I wonder how many of those airs they have and and I wonder
1:45:25
like I don't know about the iPhone Pro. I don't know if that semi vibrant not not undeniably vibrant
1:45:34
uh or cosmic orange. I don't know if that's going to be undeniably vibrant. I don't know if it's going to be a hit or a huge flop, you
1:45:40
know? Is it going to be like the one that's sold out or is it going to be like, "Oh, you can always get one of those at a discount."
1:45:46
Well, they're definitely that's the one they're plastering all over the site everywhere. I mean, that's that's the one that is, you know, front and center.
1:45:52
Sure. Yeah, I know. But, uh, you know, it it doesn't have a metal flake, so if
1:45:58
it had the metal flake, people would go for it. [Music]
