hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:12
how you can use front row in Mac OS 10
0:14
line now the front row was one of the
0:16
casualties in OS 10 line and apple
0:19
decided to cut it I'm not quite sure why
0:21
I'm thinking it's cuz they wanted to
0:22
push the Apple TV uh but whatever the
0:25
reason it's gone now and if you're
0:27
frustrated by that there's a way you can
0:28
get it back there's three ways to get it
0:31
back the first two are the easiest and
0:33
that's what I'm going to highlight today
0:35
the third one involves a lot of
0:37
different things that are just very I
0:40
don't know not worth it in my opinion so
0:43
we're not going to go into that uh but
0:46
the two easy ways are if you have
0:48
another Mac running snow leopard yet or
0:50
if you have a time machine backup of
0:52
your Mac and one of the backups is from
0:55
when you were still running snow leard
0:57
and the third way that I'm not going to
0:59
talk about today is if you have a snow
1:01
leopard installation disc you can
1:02
extract some files off there but it
1:04
involves downloading some software and
1:07
digging around in the system disc which
1:10
I don't know is it seems like a lot of
1:13
work for me and the other two ways are
1:15
so much easier that I wouldn't even pay
1:17
to do it the third way so the two ways
1:20
I'm going to show you today work
1:22
identical to each other the methods that
1:24
you use uh the only difference is how
1:27
you go about doing them uh so for the
1:29
time machine backups you're going to go
1:30
into time machine to do it and if you're
1:33
running on snow leer just it's going to
1:35
go into the
1:36
finder so I already have the files
1:39
restored and you can see if I go into my
1:40
applications folder front row is right
1:43
there so what you need to do is you need
1:46
to restore a couple different files
1:48
around your hard drive and the files are
1:51
not there in line but they are there in
1:52
snow leopard I'm going to show you the
1:54
files that you're going to need to
1:55
restore from either a time machine
1:58
backup of snow leopard or a snow leopard
2:00
installation on a different Mac so the
2:03
first file is just if you go into your
2:05
applications folder on your hard drive
2:07
and you go over to Front Row uh you're
2:09
going to need to restore this from your
2:12
snow leopard backup or
2:15
installation that's pretty simple uh the
2:17
next one you're going to have to go to
2:19
your hard drive Macintosh HD and go into
2:23
your system folder and then from there
2:25
the library
2:26
folder from there the core Services
2:29
folder let me just find it
2:31
here and in the core Services folder
2:34
there will be another application called
2:36
front row and it's right here oh no
2:39
right there so you're going to have to
2:42
restore this file as well now if you're
2:44
in time machine you can just hit the
2:46
restore button you'll have to type your
2:47
administrator password uh but if you're
2:49
on Snow Leopard you'll probably want to
2:51
put in a USB flash drive just copy these
2:53
files to the flash drive and put them in
2:55
the respective folders when you get back
2:57
on your lion machine
3:01
so the next file is if you go back into
3:03
your library folder you're going to have
3:06
to go into the a launch agents
3:09
folder and in that folder you're going
3:11
to have to find com. apple. remote ui.
3:15
pist so I'm going to code on here so
3:18
here is com. apple. remote. pist and
3:21
it's just a property list
3:24
file and the next file you're going to
3:27
have to get is if you're going to syst
3:29
system library and then private
3:32
Frameworks there are the last two files
3:35
in here and they're actually entire
3:36
folders that you're going to want to
3:38
restore so the first one is back R.F
3:42
framework that's right here and the last
3:45
one is ioto axis.
3:48
framework and let me just find that
3:50
right there so those two folders as well
3:53
now after you have all these files and
3:55
you put them back in their respective
3:57
locations if you open if you try to open
3:59
front row it's not going to work you're
4:01
just going to have to restart your Mac
4:04
and then from there I can either use my
4:05
Apple remote or I can just click on
4:07
front row and a front row will launch
4:10
for me here and you can see it works
4:13
just as it normally would this
4:14
understudy thing is a separate third
4:16
party application I installed in the
4:19
front row but you can see it's all
4:20
working here I can go into movies and I
4:22
can look at the iTunes top movies it all
4:25
works and it's all just like it should
4:28
be so that's how you get fr front row
4:30
working on your lion
4:32
installation and as always if you have
4:34
any how that you'd like to see me do
4:36
especially with Lion recently coming out
4:38
make sure to send me an email I hope you
