There's a new daily word game in Apple News called Quartiles
0:04
I'm going to show you how to play it. First, you need to install iOS 17.5, which was released on May 14, 2024
0:12
You'll go to settings, general, software update. And if you haven't updated already, you'll see it right here
0:19
Second, you need to be a subscriber to Apple News Plus. Apple News Plus is available for $12.99 a month or as part of the Apple One
0:28
Premier bundle for $37.95 a month. Either subscription can be shared with up to five people
0:34
After you've updated and after you've subscribed to Apple News, you can find
0:37
Quartiles in the following tab. You'll tap puzzles on top and you can see all of today's puzzles
0:43
Scroll down to continue a game you've left in progress or tap on the Quartiles
0:47
tab on top to play any game from a previous day. So this is how the game works
0:55
You'll see a giant grid of word segments. Common single syllables, letter patterns, prefixes, and suffixes
1:04
You need to combine them to make as many words as possible. Kind of like the game Boggle
1:09
A word can be a single tile, two tiles, three tiles, or four tiles
1:20
These are called quartiles. And there are five quartiles on every board
1:26
Find all five quartiles and you score 40 points, but the game doesn't end there
1:32
There's always at least 100 possible points to score by building as many short words as you can
1:38
After you've made a quartile, you can still use these letters to build other words
1:43
but they're automatically sorted to the bottom so that it's easier for you to find the next quartile
1:47
You can toggle this by hitting this button in the bottom right and hitting
1:50
the shuffle button in the bottom left will help you if you get stuck. You can tap the words found bar at the top to see which words you've already
1:58
found and how many points they're worth. So you tap on each tile to select a syllable
2:03
You can tap on the X to start over, or you can tap on the
2:07
check mark to submit it as a word. From this button in the upper right, you can go through the tutorial again
2:13
or you can reveal all words to end the puzzle. You can tap the back button in the top left to save your progress
2:20
and come back to the puzzle later. And that is how to play quartiles in Apple News+
2:25
A new puzzle will be published every single day, just like the crossword and mini crossword
