0:21
went uh and we're live hey where is everybody there's
0:29
nobody here we got day we got oh that's right we're doing on a Wednesday that's the
0:36
problem oh we got the big absolutely juicy Super Chat from you know who C
0:44
man's eating TG already oh that's where everyone is what are you saying it's Wednesday all right well you know what
0:50
it doesn't matter we're doing it anyway we're doing it live and most of the people that consume this show listen to
0:57
it anyway isn't that crazy the best part of his watching it I feel
1:02
like it's way more fun to watch the show Griffin's unsure he's unsure he's
1:09
unconvinced um well oh yeah Costco wants to know what's
1:16
going on with this dishwasher oh yeah yeah private show I had a near disaster today like at 2 o'cl
1:24
like an hour and a half before or no just an hour before our call started like this guy from the electricity
1:30
company shows up with this giant truck and he's like hell yeah we're going to be trimming some trees right in your driveway like all right how long is this
1:38
gonna be I don't know we'll see we've got a cast iron pipe out here that we need to
1:43
Jackhammer it's not going to be a problem soio for you they just like chucking branches in a in a tree chipper
1:50
they were like chainsawing some stuff so luckily that cleared out 230 Griffin your audio seems to have just dropped a
1:57
lot for some reason all right sorry I feel like I have to apologize to those of you
2:03
watching I feel like I just partook in a group hobo battle where I lost look at
2:09
me shaved in like a week I didn't move my audio at all it's oh my now it's real
2:15
hot it just jumped up like 40% yeah okay I hear the air rattling through your
2:22
nose hairs is that better it's the same
2:27
that oh Tomas wants to hear the car story we're gonna do a off topic on Friday it is actually gonna come out on
2:33
Friday so we're gonna release that one come out on Friday uh maybe yeah right
2:40
bet I probably can't release that one on Friday because I still have one locked and loaded which every time I say I'm going to release it kin's like don't
2:47
it's Griffin's fault he schedule it he said schedule it release it on a Monday
2:53
you're ideas to schedule it is was like oh yeah I'm going to releas it like 30 minutes before we release the codcast like okay well I don't appreciate
3:02
yeah you're right the problem is Griffin makes too much sense uh and then I just never do it debilitating condition uh
3:10
okay well tell you what let's go ahead and get Goblin on this show we got a lot
3:16
of gobblin I'm so hungry ironically is ready to gobble gobble his lunch so we need to get this thing I think we should
3:22
do this thing double time so I can get to lunch yeah all right we could try to talk double time the whole show let's see how that works that'd be pretty fun to try
3:30
I don't know think that's great let's do it let's let's make it happen all right let's see here I can't
3:38
I can't gobble that fast you have to vary your pitch and speed when you're a RAC Contour like me leis a RAC Contour
3:45
okay you wouldn't know of such things gber claims to be a Rak contour and he doesn't do that so well is he a true Rak
3:52
onour I think I think he's our poser Contour oh that's right that's
4:00
right maybe you should just paint yourself as a good old oldfashioned American
4:05
Storyteller yeah okay RAC Contour but but Rak Contour sounds so much more
4:13
fancy it it sounds like something that Johnny Depp would would be or say oh yeah for sure I I 100% promise you
4:20
Johnny Depp has said that about himself at some point in the last and he he uses like this his uh the
4:29
back of his throat when he says it to you to like really get that French pronunciation all right look this Show's
4:34
already gotten off topic and bad so let's go ahead and get this thing
4:40
rolling and uh we'll get the show completed which I know is everyone's
4:46
favorite part fingers crossed I just come here
4:52
for the ending uh all right you know what though I just love that song it is
4:59
surprising I would say 60% of the time all of our audience comes in right as we're ending
5:05
the show it's just their favorite part I don't know why all right let's do it
5:11
speaking of AAC onour I know someone who likes to tell stories oh Mrs
5:18
D oh yes my dear I do love telling stories about El kany sensual stories
5:24
with love making Mrs D no one wants to hear that story
5:30
true stories my dear oh they're true stories Le they're not even fiction they're oh my Mrs D you're grossing
5:37
lisis out and he hates being grossed out before he eats his lunch so if you don't mind let's get this thing rolling we
5:42
have a lot to talk about I'll get the music and we'll get rolling in three
5:49
two hello and welcome to the co fast 30 plus app conversation you're going to
5:54
hear all we CL I'm your host a Alia join me today he's building an underground ground oh wait no WR one he's having the
6:02
cult of Mac Riders prepare him a lovely Thanksgiving feast they won't get to eat any of it at the table but the day after
6:09
the bucket of delicious scraps will be emptied into their Chow trough he's a magic of C balls is
6:16
[Music] here it's so exciting so exciting to be here I okay I can talk I can really hear
6:22
the enthusiasm in your voice also with us he likes to keep all his favorite recipes neatly organized on his Newton
6:28
message pad 100 though the 4 megabytes of memory is starting to fill up he's
6:34
rer pat pat Tren Jones is here good evening well as all Newton NOS
6:42
know although it comes with a small amount of internal storage you can actually expand it by inserting a PC
6:47
card wow where do you get those
6:52
eBay a handheld device with expandable storage that you can upgrade later whenever you feel like it imagine that
6:58
yeah but that would eat into TC's delicious gravy and he doesn't like sharing his gravy you would know that if
7:04
you'd ever been invited to his Thanksgiving feast and a very happy
7:09
Goble gble y' to all of our longtime listeners who know what that means and
7:15
you'll know Griffin if you were there that he makes a big beautiful pot of gravy and he's the only one that gets it
7:21
everyone else has to eat their turkey dry which I think it's kind of mean they have that big beautiful
7:27
cauldron of gravy that he custom made himself and not even even share it leis and it it keeps it hot too right
7:33
it's it's like bubbling gravy it keeps it on a hot plate yeah yeah but TC likes his gravy he eats the entire thing
7:40
there's no gravy left at the end of the dinner you all know that TC likes his gravy if you don't believe me just try that uh favorite Thanksgiving side
7:47
dishes are I guarantee you he loves brussels sprouts I mean look at that guy's physique he probably has a sixpack
7:53
no joke I would be surprised Sprouts well brussels sprouts help you get to
7:59
sixpack Lewis he could probably be like a fitness trainer no kidding I mean the
8:04
guy gets up at 3:00 a.m. to go work out you don't you don't have that level of dedication and don't have like an eight
8:10
pack all right look we got all sorts of stuff to talk about before we do oh my goodness look at this speaking of gravy
8:17
we got him go last with the $50 super chat boom that's all he has to say Hugo
8:24
I would love to spend that money but unfortunately goes right to Elk's pocket and I get none although LK is going to
8:31
appreciate that gravy and it will put him in a better mood so we thank you for that we also got MRA 4000 I'm not sure
8:39
that he's not AI but he did give us five bucks and he says gobble gobble y oh man
8:46
I like people purchasing the gobbles what's going on in here Louis tagging me for something uh why did you
8:53
why did you put it on slack just tell me you need the Tweet action I was trying to be you know subtle yeah but all you
8:58
did was dist ract me where where where is the Tweet now now I don't have it now I'm flustered
9:04
Lewis and uh live without a n show later
9:10
okay let me know if um for those of you watching live let me know how Griffin sounds because I feel like his his audio
9:16
keeps kind of going in and out all right is it too quiet now I can turn it back up it does seem quieter doesn't it
9:23
leis open down yeah all he's a yoyo I've turned it back up again oh uh take take
9:28
down take down here a little too hot there okay little too hot there uh all right now it's at just below six let's
9:34
just let's just keep it there what do we got on the docket for you all this week we got iOS 19 a more conversational uh
9:42
Seri that is actually fixed yes it may actually happen uh Lewis is is going to
9:49
tell us about some key iOS 19 features delays Lewis
9:56
what we're going to talk about iOS that is is out and the delays of features that are okay I leave it to you uh I'm
10:04
going to tell you about some more iOS 17 air radical features coming down the pipe hope your pipe hole is ready and
10:14
uh Griffin's not sure how to take that one and just think about it Loose think about it Griffin I mean uh I think you
10:19
should both think about it we'll talk about airpods Max 2 uh Griffin has got a
10:25
a review of a what is this a studio display clone Griffin you'll have to wait for to see
10:32
wow oh my so mysterious and um I don't know we'll see what else happens I I I feel like there's so I was just telling
10:39
the fellows there's so much that we could talk about like there are so many tangents I could go on in this show it's
10:44
going to be incredibly difficult we could talk about Black Friday I mean my goodness there have been some good
10:49
sales and I have just been laser eyed laser eyed watching the
10:58
Black Friday that's how on it I've been Le and I've been I I was saying earlier like I use
11:05
some price trackers especially on Amazon we did an episode about um Amazon price trackers before which are I think an
11:10
indispensable tool for making purchases especially on Amazon but just in general and prices have been very low this Black
11:17
Friday lower than they've been in a couple years uh maybe longer some really good deals to be had out there I don't
11:23
know if we'll have time to get that into the show if not uh we could work it into an off topic we are going to be
11:29
recording an off topic this Friday and I might work in my car story the end of my
11:35
car story maybe some Black Friday stuff well the Black Friday stuff is tough because you kind of want to get it out
11:41
the door as quick as possible because people can miss it but I will say one thing before we officially jump into the
11:47
Apple stuff the best Black Friday deals happen and they're like a Candle in the
11:54
Wind yeah that's a phrase I just coined they go out quickly you got to be
11:59
watching you got to be tracking go to slickdeals.com which is the the site that I use and you could put in a price
12:06
alert for something that you actually want but you could just browse the different categories and find something that you didn't know that you wanted for
12:12
a really great price because the really great prices they sell out fast like maybe an hour sometimes less there are
12:18
going to be a lot of great ones Lew just posted one in the chat we'll probably put this in the show notes for is this airpods Pro 2 super low price one of the
12:24
lowest US $3.99 and it's been good for like the
12:30
past I don't know at least well we saw it yesterday afternoon
12:35
so so these kinds of deals especially with apple usually last until Black
12:40
Friday maybe through Cyber Monday week but the best ones typically only last
12:46
like one to three days the the real sweet ones an hour two hours Max and
12:51
then they s out so you got to be watching that's the way you get it all right let's see here should we Dive
12:57

15:03
gripster what are we talking about first we're talking about Siri oh my so the headline is it iOS 19 could debut a more
15:11
conversational llm Siri Apple plans to further improve Siri in iOS 19 and 2025
15:17
by using Advanced Next Generation large language models or llms thanks to the new llms powering Siri The Voice
15:24
Assistant should become much more conversational Apple introduced Siri upgrades with was 18 this year Well
15:31
Apple introduced upgrade as a new design uh with apple intelligence The Voice
15:37
Assistant got marginally smarter I wouldn't even say smarter I would say Siri got more features yes that's more
15:43
ACC but it Siri hasn't actually gotten smarter it just does a few more things terrible as it's always been sadly an
15:50
even bigger upgrade to Siri will arrive in iOS 18.4 next year enabling you to
15:55
use the voice assistant to control apps that'll be built off of like the Siri intent system and it'll be able to do
16:01
things inside apps that you ask it but um I think when we when we saw this
16:07
introduced at WWDC earlier this year we assumed oh okay so sir is built on top of like an llm of some kind yeah well
16:14
apparently not really it's like that upcoming feature is just going to be powered on top of the same old engine
16:19
it'll just you know again do a little bit more um for those of you listening I'm shaking my head in disbelief I just I
16:26
just can't believe it just as bad ever yeah uh apparently
16:31
the real real real Siri upgrade will come next year in iOS 19 Bloomberg
16:37
reports that apple is developing a more conversational Theory uh that will allow for natural conversations as seen with
16:43
Gemini live and chat gpt's voice mode Apple employees refer refer to the
16:49
feature internally as llm Siri uh that'll be part of Apple intelligence when it's rolled
16:55
out um this is a quote here the next generation llm for iOS 19 will be will
17:00
be a new endtoend system that provides more advanced chat GPT like
17:05
capabilities um and Mark Mark Gman is saying that potentially this won't be
17:11
included when it launches in September and I think this is this is what kind of
17:18
annoys me about Mark G's reporting that he mixes he mixes like the information
17:23
that he has with his own speculation m i mean sometimes he like the entire lead
17:28
of his newsletter is just like an opinion piece it's not actually based on anything it's like all right well no
17:34
good Mark Gman information this week like I think last week he was talking about how Apple needs to make more
17:39
models of the Apple TV like all right sure dude but like this part of the report he's saying that like he doesn't
17:46
think this new version of that like he thinks it'll be delayed until spring
17:51
2026 the new version of sirian like iOS 19.4 I'm not entirely sure how much of
17:58
that I bought that sounds like speculation on his part and I'll also say that like with the Apple intelligence features in iOS
18:05
18 a lot of the pundits like Mark Gman and others were much more pessimistic on
18:11
how quickly Apple would be rolling them out but like it's you know it's only December it's only been out for like three
18:16
months and and we'll have like two major waves of features so I don't know yeah
18:21
it's disappointing that the real Siri won't be coming out for another year
18:27
but uh year and I don't know I don't know if it'll be I don't know if it'll be a full year and a half you know maybe
18:34
maybe it's like iOS 19.2 it's unbelievable it's truly astounding how bad Siri has been and for
18:40
how long every time I do dictation it's just absolutely astounding to me that it's still as bad as it is and I I can't
18:48
imagine that they would be I mean they're already integrating so much AI into their OS why
18:55
would it take you 18 months to Siri I just don't get it I I I don't cuz
19:02
all these models are already already exist it seems like you could just switch your technology
19:09
from whatever they use now to an llm for dictation and understanding and stuff
19:15
and you would be good to go I'm clearly not an apple engineer so there's probably a lot more to it than that but
19:21
18 months that's a long time to fix a problem that's been going on for 10 years you know it it feels like it
19:29
the the parallels with like apple continuously promising that they're going to fix here and nothing actually changes it it it has a strong parallel
19:36
with like Tesla promising full self-driving every year for like the last eight years like oh here here here
19:42
comes the new hardware version it's going to make everything better and it's going to go so much faster and we'll have full self-driving in just a in just
19:48
two years from now and then it it works pretty much exactly the same like oh no this next version of full self driving
19:54
that's coming in two months will be so much better five times better and then it takes eight months and it's like 10%
20:00
better and it's just that like repeated cycle for like the last 10 years that's
20:05
actually comparison and I kind of wonder if we were taking bets which will we see
20:11
first a is it like a level five driving Tesla where it can it's just fully
20:17
autonomous I forget what levels are um or are we going to see Sira actually work I honestly could not tell you which
20:26
will actually happen first because both of those things that example is so great cuz we keep hearing that things are
20:32
going to get better with self-driving and also with Siri and it's always I
20:37
think someone just said in the chat it seems like it's always like one or two updates away it just never comes well
20:43
the thing about Siri is that we know that a functioning conversational voice assistant is possible because everybody
20:49
else has one and apple doesn't whereas full self-driving is you know easily 10 15 years away I mean it's always been 10
20:56
to 15 years away yeah that's true about Siri and and yet I mean chat GPT has
21:01
been around for at least two years I don't even know how long it was or how long it had been out before it got
21:06
popular and here we are Apple still does not have Siri and it and and or it still
21:14
does not have the ability to understand you conversationally and it it just it's a horrific Abomination every time you
21:19
try to speak with it how bad it's understanding is of what you're trying to say it's TR it's truly amazing
21:28
it seems like they're just so worried about it uh you know working incorrectly which it does um or you
21:37
know unlocking your door you know I mean like they seem to be worried that somebody is going to say uh unlock the
21:44
door and it's not you and it unlocks your door I mean I mean that would be a problem yeah but I mean it's
21:53
just it just seems like it's unnecessarily safe and secure I mean
21:59
I I you know I'm walking up to to open my door and it takes like a while other
22:04
things you can just have it set it just opens the door as you approach with the phone right on Android I've been home
22:11
kit Siri I've been trying to get my hands on um some new Smart Home Tech
22:19
including smart door locks there's so many out there now there are so many out there now and and some of them are good
22:26
some of them are great some of them are garbage which and what I've noticed is is a lot of the smart home locks that
22:32
exist now like when I last installed one it was from schay schay is that how you say schlag
22:39
no one knows how to say their name um the thing was burly it was like a regular lock except it was uh smart
22:47
enabled a lot of the ones that I've seen just from testing and you know tinkering
22:52
with them at the stores they're all like plastic super cheaply made like the
22:57
actual itself like the mechanism is made of metal and then outside of that everything else is just like cheap
23:03
plastic so they look really nice but they feel like toys and so I'm looking for like a really great high quality one
23:11
um I'm also looking for a a a smart doorbell
23:16
because some criminal Invader this is unbelievable okay you
23:21
want a tangent here's a tangent for you oh boy I went out of town on Friday
23:29
um and we went to visit some friends up north and there were some packages that
23:35
were going to be delivered and I tried to like reroute them but I did I I waited too late and I couldn't actually
23:42
do it I should have been smart I should have contacted my neighbor and had him come get my packages um and and move
23:49
them inside our house but I didn't I thought they'd be safe on our porch like we've never had a single problem with
23:54
people stealing packages one of the packages was something I didn't know I was getting I have like this really nice
24:01
um uh uh uh cast iron and nabl Dutch oven from this really nice brand we've
24:07
had it forever and it started to Chip and I didn't realize this but like this
24:13
particular brand has a lifetime warranty on these pots so I contacted them and
24:18
they're like oh we'll just send you another one I was like oh great and so they did what's that I love it I know
24:25
well I love that kind of customer service and commitment top tier man like no questions asked just sent me a new
24:32
one didn't even ask me for the receipt or anything they're just like we'll just send you another one and I was like okay cool and so they didn't send me tracking
24:39
or anything and lo and behold this thing shows up on Saturday while I'm gone and
24:45
so I come back Sunday we get home and I'm like I'm like oh man where did that
24:51
package go right like where did my Amazon stuff go I'm looking all around nothing I look all over my property
24:57
nothing contact my neighbors like hey did you cuz sometimes my neighbors will come over to my house and they'll put my packages away on the back porch hey did
25:04
you put my packages on the back porch no we have men in your house lo and behold some piece of absolute scum came to my
25:13
house and they stole all the packages on my porch and they could not have struck at a better time that Dutch oven I I
25:20
haven't bought one in like 6 78 years it's $500 now it's a it's a Le cruset Dutch
25:28
oven which is like the best that you can get it's a french-made dutch oven I didn't pay that much for it now the
25:34
other thing that they stole was a 2 tbte um
25:40
XBox ex uh uh expansion drive like like an SSD those things are outrageously
25:46
priced I I got a great Black Friday deal on it but even still it was $200 and so they made away and my wife
25:53
had some packages there so they made off with like $7 $800 worth of stuff
25:59
and we have no video footage of my front door at all because I've never even thought to install a camera out there I
26:05
was like why would I um and now I get it it's like oh the the doorbell camera
26:10
isn't just for people who ring your doorbell because no one ever Rings my doorbell it just monitors your front door if anyone gets close it starts
26:16
recording and I love having that I can't even imagine not having one now so it
26:23
records even if people don't ring the doorbell right right okay so now I get
26:28
it yeah I I have a I have a nest I I've never bothered to get one of the uh I
26:35
waited forever you know and then I finally ended up saying screw it there's never going to be a homekit one and uh
26:42
got the nest now there are homekit ones I don't really feel like upgrading what a pain because it works great I mean
26:48
it's it's been up forever and uh yeah it's fantastic you can set one of those ones you have to pay for uh yeah it has a monthly see or
26:56
annual fee I secure video I think that just uses your personal iCloud storage it do it's
27:04
entirely private so you know police can't steal the footage from it but there's not a lot of homekit enabled
27:10
cameras so I'm I'm looking around I I've been thinking about reaching out to manufactures and just seeing if people will start sending me cameras that I can
27:17
test out because there's so many out there now there's so many different brands some of them stored to the cloud and they charge you for it some of them
27:24
store locally on an SD card some of them will will upload the video to sonology which I think is perfect so like there's
27:31
a lot of options but like I I I just in my neighborhood not that I live in some
27:37
fancy neighborhood but like we've just never had a problem out here with that type of thing and how how did the people
27:42
know to come to my house well the car wasn't there so but our car is not always here and so someone just w i mean
27:49
it seems as though they did it in the middle of the day too like they didn't even didn't even do it at night because
27:55
um I had a picture of another package that was delivered later at night and um
28:02
and some of the packages that were stolen um weren't there so I think that
28:07
they came either like in the afternoon or the evening and I'm like someone just walked up to my door which my door is
28:14
not facing the street so they walked up to my door it's kind of hard to see packages from the street um and surveil
28:22
the scene and walked away with all my packages isn't that isn't that I mean I know it happens all the time it's never happened to me just follow the truck
28:29
around that might be what they're doing like I think they actually might be following the truck around and if they
28:34
stop and they see that there's no car or the lights are out or whatever they just walk up to the door and take your
28:41
packages and I don't even know if getting video footage of them would do anything at all CU like the Seattle Police Seattle nothing San Francisco
28:48
zero yeah there I don't know how much they would actually do like I F the police report it's online it's like a
28:54
self-help police report website and you file it and and it probably goes it
29:00
probably goes to a machine that prints it out and then the print out goes directly into a shredder that sits right
29:06
below it and then the shredder is piped into a garbage can and that's the end of your story but
29:13
here's the thing here's the really crazy part sorry I know I'm going on and on and on is I was like I'm out all this
29:18
money right like this is like tons of money that we just lost but surprisingly
29:23
Amazon will just give you a refund maybe you all know that out there they just I
29:29
mean if it happens over and over and over again I suspect they would not do that but I've literally never had this
29:34
happen and so they just gave me back $220 they're like sorry it got stolen here you go and crus I contacted them
29:42
and they said that they would be um putting me in contact with ups and I was like well UPS isn't going
29:50
to do anything for us UPS delivered the package so I'm like can you not just send me a replacement like I like you
29:57
you you really should have sent me tracking so I knew that this thing was coming and you should have given me um
30:03
or you should have required a signature for a $500 item I feel like that would have been kind of a good idea to do and
30:10
um and so we're still working back and forth with them but I think they're going to send me another one they're going to justes eat the cost and send me
30:17
another one yeah what wow well we could go down to the hobo camp and see if if there's
30:22
like you know somebody making some hobo stew out of your uh Open Flame I can't
30:28
believe it I mean what these people do with these items like do they keep them for themselves are they selling them on
30:33
eBay I sell them on eBay for sure yeah or if you're in San Francisco they could you you know set them up at the Open Air
30:39
Market I I I love having the uh I love having the thing because you know a if
30:45
somebody does deliver something and you weren't expecting it you can you can get a hold of your neighbor and say hey this
30:50
just showed up on my front porch could you please come and get it that's true that's true and I've got great neighbors like if I were to do that they would
30:56
come right over and and get the package I also kind of wonder if it deters people from coming to your porch like if
31:02
they start walking up and they see a camera recording them then I wonder if they would just turn away um I bet
31:08
they're a little less likely to goad I mean I would be right like I mean I suppose you could cover your face but I
31:16
would be nervous to walk up to someone's house and steal something if I saw Cameron pointed right at me um
31:22
especially if if you got the alert you know you're driving down the road you get the alert hey somebody's on the front porch you look at it and you see oh my my God that's that's not hey you
31:29
could just say through the phone through the app hey get away from my porch get away from my porch you scumbag yeah or I
31:35
could release the seconds to comply I mean I have one of those um those robotic dogs with two mini turrets uh
31:41
charging my back it just sits there but I don't know when to deploy it I don't have the technology to Auto deploy you
31:46
don't want there being have 24-hour battery so you got to you know use it wisely you got 20 minutes of turret action before that thing's just dead so
31:54
you got to be careful so I don't know like I I I I don't know what to do but I I realized I need to do something I need
31:59
to get some serious security protocols going on the front of my house if if you make it into the backyard the auto
32:05
turret's engag the robotic dog comes after you I mean you're not making it to the cult Command Center that's for sure
32:11
and it's always been my focus I was like I got to make sure that like the back of my property is secure but for some
32:17
reason I never really thought about the front of the property because people are coming and going on the front of your property all the time and so I guess I
32:23
just was like well who would be stupid enough to walk up to my front door and do something but they do now man like
32:29
it's just crazy how Brazen some of these people are it's unreal and I mean and just think of the hall like if you drove
32:35
into like a higher-end middle class area right where there's people who work in Tech and just stole packages from people
32:43
that weren't home you could easily get out with I'm gonna guess $1,000 doll worth of stuff and you know that bad for
32:49
a day work I mean it's not bad a day's work you might only have to work for two hours and uh I I mean I kind of uh
32:57
encountered like these car uh these car thieves they weren't stealing cars they were breaking into cars and stealing
33:03
stuff and they were going up and down my neighborhood for hours just driving around breaking into cars and they were
33:10
they were driving a stolen vehicle so even if you got pictures of the license plate it would do nothing for you and I
33:16
finally got a hold of the police and they actually showed up because I I had just seen them break into a car and so I
33:23
called the police and they actually came and they said yeah we've been tracking these guys all day they've been driving all around Seattle for the entire day
33:30
the entire day they've been driving around Seattle breaking into cars and did you say and uh why haven't you
33:36
collared them I me he was just like oh the drive a stolen car what you what are you GNA do I don't know shoot out the
33:42
tires well here's a thing I mean the police actually did try to do something they showed up right but what are you
33:48
going to do when you have a car driving around and you don't know where it's going to be and by the time someone
33:53
reports it they break into the car they're there for 60 seconds and then they leave like what do you you actually going to do in that situation I don't
33:59
know that you can do very much so they hadn't actually seen the car I no they hadn't actually only inocent bystanders
34:06
had seened the car and and and that's it I don't know where I'm going with this I just thought I would tell the story
34:12
because I've never had my I've never had packages stolen and now I'm paranoid I'm like every anytime a package is coming
34:17
we got to be ready to apprehend you know what I thought oh man I know I'm going way deep with this you know what I
34:23
thought about doing okay I thought about staging a setup
34:28
and putting some big juicy packages on the porch that are empty and then
34:33
removing the car from the driveway Ching out the lights and then just waiting just waiting with cameras armed
34:42
to see if anyone shows up and getting like some bear spray and just wait for
34:47
someone to show up on the property and then I I spring it in front of him I go Aha and I just
34:53
go and I just start dousing him with the bear spray I I I seriously think that
34:58
would make a great YouTube video it might it might be it might be worth it might be worth trying because I bet you those people case this
35:04
neighborhood I leave it there so that was a pretty good
35:11
podcast and that's all oh
35:17
man oh oh oh oh one final tangent this will be a
35:23
short one short one short one short one wow my friends the homepod story it it
35:30
has not ended yet do you remember that story we did we did way back about the guy who fixes H
35:36
pods oh yeah I reached out to that guy he is probably 12 miles from my house
35:44
and we've been chitchatting he's going to let me come over to his house and I'm going to get a video of it and he's
35:49
going to see if he can fix my beloved home it's alive it's
35:56
alive I think he's going to be able to fix it man he he was already diagnosing it via email he's like I think I know
36:01
what's wrong with it he's like bring it over and let's see if we can bring this thing back to
36:06
life so I just wanted to tease that I'm definitely goingon to make a YouTube video if I go to his house as long as he
36:12
doesn't try to murder me it will end up going up on YouTube well you'll be recording it so you know yeah of
36:18
security there but it's not going to be streamed he's gonna just throw the camera away once I'm dead so he does
36:24
know that okay well here we go if the if the video doesn't will broadcast that this is going to happen on the show and
36:30
the video is not live a week after that means that he killed me okay sounds like a plan all right should
36:37
we keep going why bother uh yeah okay this turn
36:42
is that this is a little follow onto the last story Apple reportedly delays key iOS 19 features until spring
36:49
2026 you won't believe this is also coming from Mark German his sources say quote a larger than usual number of
36:55
features of iOS 19 will be delayed from its initial launch in September 2025 to
37:01
iOS 19.4 is release in Spring 2026 and he's not talking about the uh llm Seri
37:07
we were talking about what was that 45 minutes ago uh so that's pretty much all there is in the story although it does
37:12
sort of point out a trend and a weird one you know Apple keeps doing this where they they hype up all these uh you
37:18
know big features coming to their phone you know the iPhone the new iPhone and then you get the phone and none of it's
37:23
there I mean none of the Apple intelligence stuff was there so but it seems like that's what they're they're they're drifting toward you know and uh
37:31
I don't know what the reason is is it just all too complicated or the hardware people because they're diverting all of
37:36
their engineering resources into this version of seran like you know after December then they'll actually Implement
37:41
all the stuff they announced in June maybe it's because almost nothing changed in the hardware side I don't know it's
37:47
weird although they had a lot of this this year's phone was pretty different especially the regular phones
37:53
so anyway I there's nothing else to say about that I mean our story has like the long history of what happened this year
37:59
but we all know uh we're still waiting on stuff that's coming in iOS 18.4 that's when the uh you know smarter but
38:05
not actually smart Siri arrives all right well then let's move
38:10
on to the iPhone 17 air slim apparently even thinner than initially rumored how
38:17
thin could it be maybe the size of credit card Lewis or maybe not I just made that up so it's probably not going
38:23
to be that in any case let's see what do we got here we got some new Intel coming from the information who I believe has
38:29
been uh very accurate in the past in fact when Alexy Heath worked for them I shudder to mention that name here on the
38:35
show um I think they broke the story on the Vision Pro like years before it came out he even had like sketches of it
38:41
remember that yeah those sketches that look like you know frog goggles or something that was the weirdest sketch
38:46
and it turned out to be un accurate it was like 100% right it's actually a weird looking product that much is true
38:54
uh let's see here apparently some of the uh the design prototypes of of the upcoming slim iPhone measure between 5
39:00
and 6 mm uh this indicates the possibility of the iPhone 17 being even Slimmer than
39:06
what we currently previously talked about 6 millimeters due to the slim design the current prototypes lack a physical SIM card slot current
39:13
International model models of the iPhone still have that that SIM card slot the space constraint is also reportedly
39:19
forcing Apple to include only one speaker positioned in the earpiece at the top oh that's going to be a no for
39:24
me dog I use those speakers all the time I keep it in my back pocket when I go on walks and I crank it up to Mac so I can
39:31
like hear myself listen to stuff although sometimes I use my airpods so um maybe that's not the biggest deal
39:36
breaker as previously uh rumored I almost said ruined as a forian Slip the
39:41
phone will only h house one rear camera located in the center due to the thin design the battery capacity will also be
39:48
smaller than usual Oh no I got a bad feeling about this interestingly the
39:53
report says the iPhone 17 air will not support 5G mm wave uh the company
40:00
seemingly plans to use its own in-house 5G chipsets which will be more power efficient than qualcom it may not
40:07
support data speeds as fast as other iPhones holy that's what I'm saying man this is not a premium phone there's no
40:13
way this is a premium foam how how could it be this is like it it sounds to me
40:19
like it's like a fancier version of like the iPhone SE maybe even the iPhone SE I don't know reportedly Apple Apple's
40:26
triing the production of the iPhone 17 air with foxcon in China but they are struggling to fit so many components
40:33
into such a slim frame it's amazing man I mean I I took apart my iPhone uh 15
40:39
Pro Max let me tell you not a lot of space in that thing leis not a lot of space I mean the engineers are working
40:46
with like you know probably like fractions of millimeters when they're moving stuff around that thing's packed
40:51
in pretty tight Louis packed in pretty tight and uh to make it even smaller and even a thin
40:57
they're going have to pull some stuff out I think it's kind of exciting you know for all the people who've been
41:03
complaining that every iPhone every year after year is exactly the same H when are they going to change something when's it going to be different well
41:10
here they are they they have space to make four phones a year they've always kind of struggled to make a compelling
41:16
fourth phone well now they're just trying something completely different what happens if we try to make a phone as thin as possible I don't know maybe
41:22
it'll be really cool I think it's exciting you know and you know what if you don't if you don't like it you still
41:28
have the three other phones you can buy the regular iPhone 17 the iPhone 17 Pro the iPhone 17 Pro Max that will be kind
41:34
of like this year's iPhones except one year better you know they're they're trying something different I think that's great I'm excited for it I just
41:42
say the exact same thing you know every year same old thing uh it's true same
41:47
old phone same old phone same old phone so now they try something new let's see maybe it'll be great I don't get why
41:52
people are complaining about it you know it you haven't even seen it yet maybe it just just looks really
41:59
awesome we have this render at the top of our post that like somebody made uh yeah it's all right at least now we have
42:06
it looks like a Google pixel with the Apple logo on it
42:12
yeah yeah you know what I totally agree let me just get my word in here Le yeah I I I think it's I think I think it's
42:18
exciting that uh I barely spoke all show leis I think it's exciting that uh
42:24
Apple's trying to mix it up a little bit do something new create a new product category and uh if my uh if my
42:33
commentary has been misconstrued as complaining uh I um I am uh I am
42:40
disavowing those complaints because I want to see apple try new stuff and we're always on here complaining they
42:46
don't try new stuff and they don't have new colors and then they do something and we start complaining about it and by
42:51
we I mean mostly me and I'm going to change my ways I'm turning over a new Leaf Griffin you spired me I want to see
42:58
what they do and maybe it'll be great the only reason I complain is because when I start hearing thin I start
43:04
thinking MacBook Pro when they're just making it thinner and thinner and thinner removing ports reducing battery
43:09
life and I'm like apple that's not the new that we were talking about like we we we need still need to be good I want
43:16
it to be new but I also want it to be good so keep the good part in mind like it has to be practical that's all I'm saying Le sorry go ahead yeah you know
43:23
thin light looks great what what if it comes out in that that great bronze you've been waiting for forever M you
43:30
buy it just for the color I might you might be right and um by the way it's
43:36
just so nice having the pro phone again and not the Max phone my goodness it just is so much easier to use and hold
43:43
and so we'll see what happens and and you know what I would be willing to give it a shot try it out even if
43:52
it's thin and only has two hours of battery life okay Lewis it's sounds like uh you got some
43:58
commentary on the iPhone 17 Pro not to be confused with the air the thin and light that we were talking about not the
44:04
only uh change that then was not the only change Apple plans to make quote significant design changes with the
44:10
iPhone 17 Pro Series next year according to the information once again uh good
44:16
god what happened to voice same thing happening to me dude same thing I don't know if it's allies or I'm coming off of
44:21
this cold which took forever just awesome been coughing for months now let's see so the company apparently
44:27
return to using an aluminum frame ditching the titani titanium edges actually I did a little research in this
44:33
after reading this post it's it's actually the phone does have an aluminum frame MH but now it's got titanium edges
44:40
supposedly they're going to switch to all aluminum again uh phone's rear camera design also might undergo notable
44:47
changes based on the report the rear of the iPhone 17 pro and pro Max will use a
44:52
this this blew my mind open quote part aluminum part glass design design H kind
44:58
of weird bottom half panel retain the support for the wireless charging mhm
45:05
you you like that you like the half half metal half glass B I celebrate the new and Innovative yes I do let's see uh
45:13
camera bump seemingly will switch to aluminum abandon the current 3D glass uh should also get a size bump to
45:19
accommodate bigger camera sensors oh my God how much bigger can that thing
45:25
get let's see if apple or if the report proves accurate Apple could make some big design changes to iPhone 17 lineup
45:30
next year these changes should not affect the rumored iPhone 17 air is it likely introduce a different design
45:36
language due to a super slim frame no idea why that sentence was in the show notes and I regret having read it you
45:43
know what this reminds me of the way when I when I hear like half aluminum half glass design it kind of sounds like
45:49
it'll be a bit like the iPhone 5s in reverse the iPhone 5s and I'm showing it
45:54
up right now on video in case you forget because it's like 10 years ago it had like glass on like the top and
45:59
bottom in little strips and then aluminum in the middle this sounds like it'll like reverse that so it'll have like you know aluminum on top and then
46:05
like a glass back so strictly for the wireless
46:10
charging yeah weird would it wouldn't it be interesting if like the whole back maybe the whole back of it is Aluminum
46:16
and then it just has like a glass circle like over the over the M that might actually look really cool yeah expose
46:23
those magnets it well you know because every everybody loves the look of the Apple clear case that has those exposed
46:30
magnets people definitely won't make fun of that I don't think so I was talk when
46:35
uh when I was editing this thing I I talked to Rees who wrote it because I didn't actually see the source material
46:41
and he I I was I was confused like half what half glass half metal he's like yeah the back of the thing and he says
46:48
it's it's like uh you know early Google pixel phones which I don't I don't stay
46:53
on top of Google pixel phones but uh well you ask me if you have any questions this I'll tell you all about
47:00
them do they do they still break all the time constantly I mean that's just
47:06
that's a given it's it's a PIX it's a pixel phone I mean that's that that's a that's a feature not a bug gez it's it's
47:13
called it's upgrade pixel Max it's like when you get
47:19
it it's your indication that it's time to upgrade to the newest technology okay that's built in yeah all right cool
47:27
anything else to say about that LS before we uh move on was okay yeah because I think people
47:33
want to hear about the airpods you got out of tangent town oh man I got more I
47:39
don't know why I have so many but I just feel like there's been a lot going on and uh and this this program is like my
47:48
source of of uh cheap therapy it's like my therapy I
47:55
can just sit on here guy complains about stuff that could be the that could be the show name I'm turning into Larry
48:01
David slowly but surely Coast is a better title yeah you might be right at
48:06
least it's easier to remember but not just complain about stuff I mean there's just so much stuff we could talk about and a lot of it's outside of Apple I
48:14
mean dude uh Silo just came back on the air yeah I mean we could talk there's
48:19
just so much we could do and this this program I feel like it's just too short some sometimes but I'm sure everybody
48:25
thinks that that's their main complaint just way too short yeah definitely definitely all
48:32
right let's talk about airpods Max's not changing anytime soon if you've been
48:37
waiting we got that that little tiny tweak I wouldn't even call it an upgrade
48:43
which uh happened what like two months ago where they basically just plopped in the USBC gave it some new colors I have
48:50
to admit I'm I'm kind of confused about airpods Max um you know we're they still
48:55
have the H1 chip and the H2 has been out I I just think it's very odd that they still haven't
49:01
upgraded this thing I'm getting ahead of myself here um let me just dive into the story so as The Story Goes Apple's not
49:08
planning any major upgrades to airpods Max anytime soon the company plans to keep the headphones around in its current iteration for the foreseeable
49:14
future which is weird which is weird I I think that must mean that they're just not selling very well the airpods max
49:21
the airpods max debuted in 2020 for $549 wow God that was forever ago
49:27
they were just that they just received a minor refresh in September Apple put in the USBC Port new
49:32
colors yeah I just said that uh no other meaningful improvements in case you were curious in that that refresh unlike the
49:39
airpods 4 and the airpods pro second gen airpods Mac still use the H1 chip not
49:44
the newer H2 chip doesn't support Advanced features like conversation awareness which you know okay adaptive
49:52
audio I turned it off uh other features now present on the airpods 4 which only
49:57
cost $179 $13.99 $53.99 sorry uh if you were oh
50:03
that's airpods yeah that's airpods 4 179 bucks so yeah crazy good deal for I mean the airpods pro too are normally what
50:10
like 230 249 list yeah I mean but street price I think I saw them 220 230 I mean
50:17
some serious sales going on right now by the way great sale on Disney Plus Hulu going on right now there's an offer
50:24
where they'll do uh either Hulu or Disney Plus for one a month for 12 months or you can get both for $3 a
50:30
month for 12 months now it's the ad ad supported tiers so you have to watch ads which does suck for sure but I mean if
50:39
you don't have it or you have not been a a subscriber for at least one month you
50:45
can get that that promotion now what I just did is I just canceled my account started a new account and got the
50:51
promotion for for three bucks a month for for 12 months so just be aware that that offer is currently going on and I
50:56
think maybe only for like another few days if you're interested um then just uh search I think Hulu promotion on
51:03
Google it should it should pop up um or maybe we should put it in the show notes Griffin I'll I'll drop it in the show
51:08
notes if you guys are interested um let's see here if you were expecting Apple to launch a truly updated airpods
51:15
Max 2 to replace the Aging uh version one apparently that won't happen a current uh this is curring to um yeah
51:23
glar Sherman he says Apple has no plan to meeting ful update airpods Max that's
51:28
a quote no real plan to meaningfully update airpods Max which means that they
51:34
are not selling well in my opinion uh the only strength the airpods max is the seamless integration with the devices or
51:39
with Apple's ecosystem yeah the strange thing about airpods Max I'll say this till I die it's a premium grade
51:46
headphone that uses a Bluetooth a low Fidelity Bluetooth connection for audio
51:51
which makes absolutely no sense at the very least it should use some kind of
51:56
like higher grade connection like I forget the name of the Bluetooth codec that that is available that you can use
52:03
that um gives you higher uh bandwidth they could also use Wi-Fi I mean there's
52:09
just so many things that they could do uh that they don't do which is confusing and so airpods max I I just think are a
52:15
strange product they are premium grade quality-wise but
52:21
not premium grade soundwise unless you use apple music which has a higher end uh codec but even still it's still not
52:28
as good as it could be if they just gave you a way to easily plug these in or to
52:35
use a higher hear that apple is working on their own like integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip maybe like the next
52:41
generation of airpods and other like their Wireless products and like that well we'll all use like a custom Apple
52:47
silicon version of that and you know so airpod that's an interesting observation airpods Max might come in like two years
52:54
from now but it'll be a big update because it'll have apples and silicon in it that's interesting yeah and and
53:00
actually that's that's a good observation so maybe the problem is is not that they're not selling oil which I really don't think that they are maybe
53:06
the problem is is that they're trying to upgrade it in a meaningful in a meaningful way but they can't do it yet
53:12
they're waiting for some kind of technology to you know to to be created
53:17
that they're working on that are going to go into these for that really high-end audio I don't think that
53:23
actually makes more sense because I don't think Apple's giving up on highend audio they seem to be going all in on
53:30
high-end audio I mean they bought that classical music site um and and I think
53:36
they want to be involved in highend or higher end audio in some way but then
53:42
they also nerfed the homepod so I don't know I can't wait to get my homepod fixed it's a dangerous thing to hope for
53:48
hoping that oh the updates aren't coming because it's going to be a really great update when it comes yeah it's it's a
53:53
dangerous thing because then you end up paying $200 for keyboard mouse and trackpad that are all exactly the same
53:59
as I had for last 15 years so there you go uh don't keep your hopes up for airpods pro Max not that
54:06
you were because they s they they seem like they're kind of becoming an obsolete product but who who knows okay
54:12
Griffin hey the truth hurts leis obsolete wow let's talk about something that may not be obsolete getting Studio
54:19
display specs without paying Apple prices could it be could that be real griffin I don't know if I believe you it
54:25
is is hold on a second before we dive in I completely forgot to plug cult cloth
54:31
so let me just do that real fast C cloth. if you want to keep all your Apple products your glasses your lenses
54:37
your cameras sparkling clean I could go on and on and on and on I won't I won't make you endure that yet again but I
54:44
will invite you to go to C cloth. and if you uh place an order of $20 plus you'll get a uh a an extra carry cloth as this
54:51
is our new version which are even better than the old versions and uh you'll just be delighted I just I use them all the
54:57
time and and nothing works better at keeping your technology sparkling clean in great shape uh Co cloth. cloth. and
55:05
use code ccasta checkout to score the free carry cloth on orders $20 plus okay Griffin sorry go back go back to where
55:11
you were wherever you were go back there okay so we are talking about a brand new display that has
55:20
roughly Studio display specs at only half half the price $800 compared to
55:27
$1,600 I'm talking about the Asus Pro art 5K pa27 jcv real and it's got a
55:36
great name too real catchy name really rolls out the tong do do they have other assus Pro art 5K monitors this is the
55:43
only Asus Pro art 5K display they have other similar monitors like you know
55:49
they're they're actually a mon like you know a bigger company unlike Apple they have more than like six products so you
55:55
can you can buy them like any sort of like size resolution stuff like that like they have a 2K version I think
56:00
they're coming out with like an 8K version and like a 34 in big you know a whole a whole array but this particular
56:08
size a 27 inch screen with a 5k resolution you know a resolution of 5120
56:16
by 2880 that is the same size and resolution as Apple Studio display you
56:21
know and being a 5k display it has the effective screen space of 20 560 by 1440
56:28
which is like so it's you know 33% wider and 33% taller than your standard 1080p
56:33
display and it's Retina Display so the text and images look super crisp you know if you're if you're editing video
56:38
like I do you can have like a Pixel Perfect 1080p screen like just in the middle of like Final Cut and you know
56:45
and have like a full workspace surrounding it like it's it's super high resolution super bright well it doesn't
56:51
get quite as bright as a studio display it only has a maximum of 400 nits instead of 600
56:58
but it's plenty bright enough for me I have it at 100% brightness and like it's it's almost too bright in in some
57:05
situations it's a matte display and matte displays can have their problems
57:13
sometimes they can be like Blurry and sometimes they they like hide a lot of the contrast they have like this special
57:18
Lux pixel coding that they say helps reduce that and you know I've tested it
57:24
like I I put it in direct path of like a sun of light and it does a pretty good job of of hiding it and like masking the
57:30
reflections and stuff like that like there absolutely no Reflections like I it I you know wave my hand out in front
57:36
of it I I can't see it in the monitor reflected at all really um the downside
57:41
though I mean if you're spending half as much as money on a monitor the savings
57:47
have to come from somewhere and uh the first thing you notice is that it's a pretty cheap plastic construction I mean
57:54
it looks like a it looks like a monitor from like 19 yeah well it has surprisingly thin
57:59
bezels I think the bezels might actually be skinnier than like the studio displays around the edges but it's it's made of plastic like you pick it up out
58:06
of the box and you hear it like loudly Creek you know if you if you if you touch it it creaks if you squeeze it if
58:13
I do a pretty like intense test with all the products I ever use where I just like grab it on opposite sides and like Flex it as hard as I can you you won't
58:19
want to do that too much to this monitor it makes some ugly sounds if you do that um geez so yeah yeah it's it's kind of
58:27
cheap plastic I mean really what PC monitor who makes monitors other than Apple that aren't like garbage cheap
58:33
plastic I mean they're all cheap plastic alien wear makes nice Dell Dell makes nice monitors and and they are plastic
58:39
but they are higher-end monitors like my main monitor is a a a Dell OLED and it's
58:46
an alien an Alienware OLED and it's pretty solid man I mean it's it's not
58:51
it's not carved from a aluminum Ingot but only Apple does that
58:56
yeah yeah U like any standard PC monitor like it has it has buttons on the front
59:02
I I don't know why it has like eight buttons you you press the menu so like you press the menu button yeah and it
59:08
doesn't actually bring up the menu but what it does is like the other seven buttons don't have any labels on them
59:13
and so like you press it and then like a little icon appears above all the buttons and then you have to match the
59:18
icon to like a list that's shown above it and like to try and like look up what the functions of these buttons do
59:24
it's kind of yeah it's it's weird I don't know why itar yeah Asus claims
59:30
like their PR people repeatedly told me oh yeah our customers love these buttons I was like well he didn't ask me I think
59:36
they're pointless like just just have one button that does everything and like just bring up the menu right away yeah I like that more or maybe three buttons it
59:43
has yeah it has ports on the front or not not on the front on the bottom so
59:49
like if you you plug this monitor into into like two different computers they can share USB accessories uh um you know
59:57
you so if you have like for example the new Mac Mac Mini that doesn't have any usba ports or even a MacBook Pro and you
1:00:04
want a few usba ports back uh you can plug this in dock it to it and then you get some usba ports and an additional
1:00:10
USBC Port which is convenient you know get some of those Legacy ports for
1:00:15
plugging in flash drives and stuff that's what I've been using it for uh what else uh oh Dynamic dimming I've seen a
1:00:23
lot of people complain about this on social media uh every every TV every
1:00:28
monitor has like that one function that you need to change right away out of the box uh on the Asus monitor it's a
1:00:36
feature called Dynamic dimming so this is where it tries to like make video players and like certain
1:00:42
parts of the display extra bright and it tries to dim the other parts of the image which OLED displays can do really
1:00:49
well many LED displays can do that really well this isn't either of those it's it's lit and like these vertical
1:00:57
stripes behind the behind the display like that's what the backl is made up of like these vertical strips and so the
1:01:03
side effect is that if you're playing a video in quick time or you're editing something in Final Cut the area above
1:01:10
and below the video player is like blown out that is so weird outside gets like
1:01:17
dimmer like I was like looking on the icons on my dock when I was in Final Cut and I was like why is the reminders and
1:01:24
notes icon Gray and why is the photos icon like all blown out and I realized I
1:01:30
I moved like the Final Cut window left and right and then I noticed like the effect like shifting and apparently
1:01:36
that's called Dynamic dimming but the good news is you don't need to do any weird hacks to turn it off it is a
1:01:42
feature that you can disable right from the menus so if that's something you've seen people complain about and you're
1:01:47
you're worried about buying this monitor because of it it is really simple to turn it off you just go into settings and flick a switch and then as soon as
1:01:55
you do that you have like a really gorgeous monitor like it covers 99% of
1:02:01
like the DCI P3 color space so the color you get a little more bright colors than
1:02:08
you would get on a standard monitor it's it's really gorgeous the colors are bright vibrant I like it I've been using
1:02:14
it for about a month so far month and a half maybe it's a good monitor you know it feels like you have a studio display
1:02:20
uh except you don't have to pay $1600 for it um yeah oh and
1:02:26
get this you can move it up and down I was gonna ask spending any come on no
1:02:31
one needs to do that Griffin actually wow what an advance that that that that's just a gimmick well what I you
1:02:39
know I used to have like a fixed monitor like my 24-in LG monitor was just fixed in place it's kind of nice having one
1:02:44
that slides up and down because when I'm uh you know using it normally I can have it slid up but then when I'm doing these
1:02:50
videos I can just slide it down you know I can move it up right now and block my camera if I want and and that's where I
1:02:57
can slide it down yeah goes up and down it swivels left and right it rotates for some
1:03:04
reason all this frivolity yeah all I need is a monitor on like a solid pull
1:03:10
and it doesn't move left or right or or or or tilt or you don't need any of that stuff just need to be a monitor just sit
1:03:17
it just sits there and you adjust your chair I I wiggle a lot during the day I I shift left and right I I move all
1:03:23
around I like having a monitor you're holding it's not Apple's fault the the one downside of the stand
1:03:30
although you get the stand for free uh I don't know why every monitor
1:03:35
manufacturer does this but they they want to support both horizontal and vertical
1:03:40
orientations but they for some reason they because it demos well I guess they have the monitor like freely rotate like
1:03:46
you can just pick it up and like spin it around like it's an iPhone no one actually does that all that does is it
1:03:53
makes the monitor wobble when you touch it if you just like touch this monitor on the corner it just like shakes left
1:03:59
and right doesn't have like a lock you can't you don't lock it doesn't what I
1:04:05
don't know why like all and the thing is when you attach the display to the stand
1:04:11
that it comes with it has like a square connector so look I'm not an
1:04:17
engineer I'm just I'm not a mechanical engineer but I'm just saying like why don't you just have like the little square thing that it attaches to like
1:04:25
does design so that you can attach it like either this way or this way like Z or 90° you know have a have a plug that
1:04:33
can go straight on or at 90 degrees and then and then it wouldn't wobble so much
1:04:38
because then you wouldn't need it to rotate I don't know that's a little quibble but you know I I understand
1:04:44
that's common to a lot of monitors I don't entirely understand why or they could just they could just make it like
1:04:50
harder to rotate like put more force on it or more resistance it is really
1:04:56
monitor oh sorry go ahead I didn't mean to cut you off there Griffin what were you saying oh it's just the conclusion yeah it is nice getting like the display
1:05:03
itself is really nice you're buying it for the panel that's it you kind of feel like you get a studio display for half
1:05:08
the price yeah and and that's all I was going to add just color commentary it is interesting like they're going to get
1:05:14
like their main focus obviously is give you the best picture that they can get in this price point right and it is
1:05:19
interesting to see what compromises they had to make in order to give you that
1:05:25
feature but pair down the cost of the rest of the monitor so that they could meet that that that price and uh and and
1:05:34
when you use the studio display it's like it's like oh you know like God this thing is expensive but boy is it nice
1:05:41
like it just doesn't have any compromises really well that's not that's actually not true I think the fact that it doesn't have like local
1:05:47
array dimming or any dimming at all it's just like what it's either on or it's off from a lighting perspective I I
1:05:53
think it's kind of absurd for the price of the monitor itself especially considering that the Apple Studio
1:06:00
display well I guess it's a 5k monitor which is kind of a unique feature but like I'm using this Alienware cutie OLED
1:06:07
monitor it's not it's not 4K it's like widescreen uh forget the actual
1:06:13
dimensions maybe it's 1440p but white but WID screen absolutely impeccable
1:06:19
gorgeous image 34 in and it was only like $700 and it's like dude it's such a
1:06:27
beautiful display um and it's so nice the the the
1:06:33
um the case is nice the buttons are beautiful the picture is absolutely beautiful um and then Apple is
1:06:40
charging $1200 for a really nice monitor body and the monitor itself or the
1:06:46
actual display is good it's really good it's 5K but pixel to pixel like I don't think
1:06:53
it's actually as good as like the Alienware is because it's it's not self-illuminating like the Alienware is
1:06:59
so it's just an odd it's just an odd product um and we talked about this previously I I think that it's really
1:07:05
good for people who want to have visual consistency across their devices like if you make something on an iPhone you know
1:07:11
it's going to look the same on the studio display it's going to look the same on the MacBook Pro as on the iPad it's like you know it's going to look
1:07:17
great on all Apple devices which that in of itself is worth something um it may not be something
1:07:25
that that you need if you're a YouTuber but if you're a designer if you're in a design firm and you need to have visual
1:07:31
consistency across all these displays that that actually might be worth something but it is an oddball product
1:07:36
like sometimes I thought about selling it because I'm like God so expensive it's 1,200 bucks and it's only 27 inches
1:07:43
but then I start using it and I'm like oh yeah it's beautiful it's 1600 bucks uh well it's on sale all the time now so
1:07:50
I'm talking street price like I routinely see it go down to 122 $1,300 um
1:07:56
but yeah you're right full price from Apple it's 1,600 which it's Bonkers at600 I mean I would never spend $1600
1:08:04
to get this monitor plus tax it's almost $1,800 I would absolutely would never spend that much on the monitor
1:08:10
especially now you already did once didn't you well I got a discount on it so oh no true yeah I'm not sure I would
1:08:16
have this this one $800 I also heard about a new monitor from Ben Q coming out that's also 27 in also 5K think same
1:08:24
resolution but it has a higher frame rate this one matches the studio display at 60 HZ I think the Ben Q monitor goes
1:08:31
to 144 wow it has I think it actually has 5K yeah that is
1:08:38
Bonkers yeah I I I don't think it's out yet U I tried reaching out to their press they haven't got back to me if
1:08:43
anybody knows anybody who works at Ben Q or has any connections I usually reach out to them
1:08:48
Ben Q makes great monitors and I think they're one of the only companies that make monitors that are common L used in
1:08:56
the design space and actually spec to spec may be able to match Apple in a lot
1:09:02
of regards maybe not all but you should definitely see if we could review some of their stuff that would be interesting before we wrap up we got Hercule perogi
1:09:10
I'm not sure if that's his real name but now he's making me hungry with the 499 Super Chat the first one ever I'm
1:09:17
looking at his Avatar and it looks scary he looks completely insane I hope that's not really you Hercule and if it is you
1:09:22
need an adess Hercule we need the S at the end
1:09:29
right herle oh maybe it's Hercule perogi all
1:09:34
right look is that it should I press the music I think so I I could do another
1:09:43
hour hours before eating lunch I was gonna say I could I could do a whole another hour on on Black Friday deals
1:09:50
the one last one I'll mention is and it's it's over now um uh well why didn't
1:09:55
mention it well just to motivate people to keep an eye out Amazon was selling the Apple watch SE uh version two for
1:10:03
$150 for one day only and um so that's what I mean I don't want to keep
1:10:10
plugging slick deals they're they're not paying me but it is a great site to keep track of popular deals in fact I don't
1:10:15
know of a better one um because they're coming in hot and heavy I've already purchased a bunch of
1:10:21
